As reported here, ‘Poison’ pop belle Nicole Scherzinger unveiled her newest offering via live performance on tonight’s X Factor USA. ‘Pretty’, the umpteenth release scheduled from the Little Engine That Could’s unreleased ‘Killer Love’ LP, sees the ‘Wet’ singer trying her luck again to make a splash on the U.S. charts. Set before one of her biggest American audiences yet (as a solo artist), will this performance do the trick?
You decide after the jump:
Aside from the parts where Scherzinger sounded like a goat singing in a refrigerator or a frosty mountaintop, ‘Pretty’ was pretty ok. While doubting Nicole’s vocal talent would be ill because the girl’s got chops, it is painstakingly obvious that she just tries too hard sometimes. Unfortunate, as her material is a fair mix of what’s hot on today’s radio, but nothing really just sets her apart from the already flooded stream of generic pop hits (on the sonic tip, as she’s clearly vocal leagues above many of her contemporaries).
Here’s hoping Nicole, yet again, goes back to the drawing board because ‘Pretty’ probably won’t do the trick. Who knows? Maybe the studio version and hot video will save the day.
Many thanks to Neonlimelight!

This website is a joke, I mean, when Nicole is getting a single well charted, all we can see is posts talking good things about her, now that she isn’t as sucessful as she is in the UK, all you can see is posts talking bullshit and bad things about her
blah blah blah

it would be smart if they released the studio version tonight… if not, this performance was most likely for naught. it’s gonna be hard for her to get lasting promo from the x factor unless she’s smart about it, because the public is already angry at her.

I think it is a pretty good improvement, even though her other songs have been good. I don’t know why they haven’t charted better, she probably justs needs to promote her songs more!

Nothing special about the song. I am curious to hear if the studio version will be ballad like or have an electronic beat like “Don’t Hold Your Breath.” Still, the song was mediocre. And it sounded like she was trying to out sing herself, and go further than she should have… ehhh I give the performance and song a C(+) to a B(-) a best.
She really should try to come out with a “I Hate This Part” type of song… But I guess she kinda did with “Don’t Hodl Your Breath,” which I liked….but public didn’t buy into it WHAT SO EVER!

I really wish you guys would put “in our opinion” or something. I know its assumed. But on this YOU ARE SO WRONG!!! she SLAYED!! Completely showed these contestants and other singers out there how its done! A song with quality, with great lyrics and a great vocalist to accompany it. Beyonce and some of these other bitches should really take note. Nicole is undoubetly, a FORCE to be reckoned with! It sounded better on my tv, too!

In terms of stage presence, she’s developping and she doesn’t fade into the background or getting overshadowed by the surroundings like in all her ‘DHYB’ and ‘RT’ performances. The vocals, however, weren’t good…AT ALL!Those last 30 seconds…VERY memorable!I could feel her larynx being abused…That’s not singing, that’s not even Christina-type vocal acrobatics, that’s plain screaming.
Anyway, when it comes to the song itself, I’ll have to wait for the HQ version.

Here’s some of the lyrics
Verse 2:
When I was your woman
And you was my man
I tried to share my world with you
But you just did not give a damn
You just tell me I was pretty
As if that’s all that I am
It’s like you never even knew me
Or tried to get know me
Was just an accessory
Oh can’t belive it
How you make me feel pretty
Chorus:
Pretty upset
Pretty broke down
I feel so pretty
Pretty messed up
Pretty much done
Now without you, super pretty
I will never be pretty messed up.
I don’t wanna be pretty no more.
<3 and I'm no Nicole shirtslinger fan but I can sooo relate to this song. I need this on my iPod!!

was on tgf via my phone and had to hop on my computer to address this fool (LAX). Im not a big Nicole fan but she is a great vocalist and performer. Its her material that has been the problem. All this hate she receives because of X factor is ridiculous. At the end of the day The Xfactor is a REALITY show!!! The producers and Simon WANT DRAMA!!! They wanted that. Why aren’t people mad at LA REID? I mean he mentioned that (even though he was not suppose to) Disney wants to snatch up Rachel (and they already have) during the competition. What if him mentioning that made viewers feel like they dont have to vote for Rachel because she will get signed by DISNEY…Trust me that had some effect of the voters. I personally feel Rachel and Drew shouldnt win the Xfactor. The age limit is too low and those girls have years ahead of them and so many more opportunites than artists like Josh Krajcik & Chris Rene (even tho he should’ve BEEN gone). To hate Nicole because of this is ridiculous and whomever wrote this is obviously out of touch with music. Nicole sounded like a goat??? Isn’t this the same site that calls Rihanna a goat? So Rihanna and Nicole sound alike huh? That Grape Juice lost a lot of points for this one. Writing a post to try to feed the hatred of an artist instead of giving an honest and truthful review of a performance. Nicole did GOOD and everyone who’s writing “nope, not it” knows it. They’d just rather hate. I really hope Sam reads this. This blog is turning into a “I hate this artist” site instead of a place where u can come to get reliable, truthful and honest info. I hope it doesnt stay this way because though I may not comment a lot I really like this blog…maybe its the grapejuice team thats messing it up. It’s something.
Sorry for any typos
