‘The Boy Is Mine’ co-stars Monica and Brandy beam in this collection of personal snapshots uploaded to the ‘Don’t Take It Personal’ singer’s Twitter moments ago. Sending fans into a frenzy, the two spark rumors that their 1998 mega-duet may be getting a successor soon.
Mo, who joined super producer Rico Love in Miami to record the finishing touches for her ‘New Life’ album (due in February), shared a touching thought with the photo:
“We’ve been blessed beyond measure…14 years later. ##TURNTHELIGHTSON ❤Love”.
Have long time fans’ cries been heard? We’ll certainly be keeping our fingers crossed on that one. The timing, if the collab rings true, couldn’t be any better given that Brandy is preparing new material for 2012 as well! This will play out interestingly to say the least. That picture was probably taken as a result of the 2 of them simply being in the same vicinity. Stars take random candids with each other all the time, and it usually means nothing — other than they just happened to be in the same building.

Kind of agree with, DAHOTNIG – except that I think these ladies are both relevant(in terms of them both having a successful status overall in music).
I’m not hating, but this news is not very exciting at all. I like Brandy and Monica as friends, but I don’t care for their partnering in music. They sing totally different styles of music. Monica’s more traditional R&B and Brandy’s more innovative R&B /pop and that concerns me. Also, Rico ‘Motivation’ Love producing them REALLY concerns me. I think his work is more traditional as well. I also hated ‘Motivation’ btw, and that seem to be his signature. Anyway, if this does happen, these women have my support. I just hope it’s the first single if it’s dropping, so that it can be done and over with and then I could get into Brandy’s follow ups. I hope both women do very well with their upcoming albums.

They are both grown women now and having them sing about arguing over a man seems highly unlikely. Both of their voices have grown since The Boy Is Mine era. They both have different voices and approaches to music which to me could produce a blend of interesting flavors. It’s gonna spark a nice buzz that’ll help the both of them gain some attention. I approve of this!

I love both Brandy and Monica Im a big fan of both ladies however im a bigger Brandy fan and i love Brandy a little more. Im excited that these 2 ladies are friends and working on new music both together and separately. However I dont think that they can recreate magic which was The Boy Is Mine with that being said Im not expecting The Boy Is Mine type of success with this new duet. I love Brandy so much and have everything she has ever dished. I do like monica too. I m a bit concerned about the duet. The BIG question is WHAT WILL THEY TALK ABOUT? They talked about fighting for a boy well and it worked, J.Hudson and Fantasia, talked abot tht too and it worked. For real any duet by women kinda hs to touch that subject if its got to succeed. Any subject other than tht may not fly. For this song it might just end up being a vocal contest between the two. *jus my opinion* i do love the girls.

All I know is that they have the most successful female duet of all time for The Boy Is Mine. Like, that’s history, just check Billboard. I highly doubt that they’ll sing or argue over a man. I mean, think about it. Monica and Keyshia Cole sang about relationship trust. Whitney and Mariah sang about Believing. Beyonce and Gaga sang about something on a Telephone. And NONE of the songs done by any of the artists above have outdone the success of The Boy Is Mine!

Let me keep it real:
Monica’s “buzz” singles failed to make a splash or any type of impact ; falling way short of her previous album. She has pushed her album back twice (a sign of no buzz; no hype, and adding songs to replace the current ones etc). Album push-backs are NEVER good signs; add to that, R&B is pretty much dead, and I do not see it being revived anytime soon.
Brandy has a better chance imo vs Mo: Brandy has a more versatile presence; she is appearing in two new films; The Game; and the buzz for her album is hot right now. I think she has everything to gain and nothing to lose. She is 33 years old now, and this will be her “Make me or break me” album, meaning:
If the album fails (anything shy of 400k total sales), her music career would be over. If she was a consistent seller, I would add more leeway to her sales, but at this point, her past 3 albums were flops – very hard to come back from; but I do believe this will be THEE album that will bring Brandy back to the forefront.
Monica is one dimensional: she does not take risks like Brandy; she is not into other aspects of entertainment such as writing, producing, acting etc; basically: she isn’t branding herself. I hope Shawn continues to rank in the money because Mo seems like she is comfortable just being simple.
My money will ride on Brandy over Mo this era

Brandy has been with us since 94. Every artist is bount to experience some ups and downs in their careers. No one is immune to flops. No one’s overexaggerating the underperformance of Afrodisiac compared to Brandy’s earlier albums. But I still wouldn’t call it a flop, YOU ARE overexaggerating with that. No one’s trying to say it was 4X platinum dumbass. Brandy wasn’t treated as the top artist at Atlantic when Afro was released. The people who were there to support her had left the label. The new people didn’t know how to market her and didn’t believe in her.
The point I’m trying to make is, Afrodisiac booked a Top 40 single, sold over 400K to date, and is certified GOLD. It’s a grammy nominated album. And if we call that a FLOP then we have to call Monica’s still standing album a flop too…I’m just saying. Educate yourself before you spurt out b*******, k?

I have NEVER heard anyone refer to Affrodisiac as a success; not music critics, magazines – only her stans! Even Brandy has stated many times in the past couple years that she felt depressed and yada yada because her music wasn’t selling, and she was referring to Afrodisiac and Human.
You can believe Afrodisiac was a success all you want, but critics and alike are saying different! Talk That Talk and Fame are 2011/2012 albums, 500k in this day and time is equal to Platinum of yesterday; Afrodisiac was released during the time most albums were still selling upwards of 2mill….excuses excuses by some pressed stans
