Katy Perry Readies ‘Teenage Dream’ Re-Release

Published: Sunday 22nd Jan 2012 by Sam

There are some dreams we don’t want to wake up from, and given the success of Katy Perry‘s ‘Teenage Dream’ we can certainly see why.

Since its 2010 release, the multi-Platinum set has birthed hit after hit, a trajectory the singer is hoping continues with a revised version of the album.

Details after the jump…

Set to hit stores on March 13th, the retooled set -dubbed ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’– will include new tracks. And while the name of the cuts are presently unconfirmed, ‘Dressing Up’ and ‘Part Of Me’ – two new Perry tracks which recently “surfaced” – have been wiped off Youtube in their entirety.

————————–

In a weird way, I can’t but revel in the shamelessness of this all. Indeed, it may take milking success to a whole other plateau, but it’s ingenius business. Not only does it provide Perry heightened potential to nab more #1’s from the “same” album, it’ll add more sold units to the LP’s already impressive tally.

That said, all this “milking” of one album surely creates heightened hurdles for its follow-up. I mean, take Michael Jackson, for example. Had MJ not “let go” of ‘Thriller’, would the great LP’s that were ‘Bad’ and ‘Dangerous’ have had the chance to shine on their own accord?

Your thoughts?

I simply…cannot today. She’s worse than Rihanna with her album every year to remain relevant.

  2. LS January 22, 2012

Don’t you mean ” since its 2011 release” and not 2012??? And what else is there to release since she released all her songs already.

  3. ♛ pop royalty ♛ ( iMusic ) January 22, 2012

    Ugh ..

i thought she milked that TD till it’s dry ..

but i guess she don’t see any problem in milking it when it’s dry too !!! 😡

  4. BC January 22, 2012

  6. xoxo January 22, 2012

this chick is an average singer with big boobs. the only song i like of hers is “teenage dream” shes just another talentless overrated s*** like rihanna.

  7. Bey Fan… January 22, 2012

Im not shocked. I know this is kinda insensitive, but since she’s divorcing, I was kinda hoping for a new album with some good a** song. A little heart break can produce some great material …

  8. MISHKA January 22, 2012

Her label knows she’s a product. She knows she’s a product.

This is a now or never moment for her. She’ll be 29 or 30 when her next album will come out.

From a business point of you, that’s a good decision.

  9. BC January 22, 2012

hmm from TD i only like teenage dream and ET
    WUIV was her best song

  10. jamir21: RIHANNA IS SAM`S HITMAKER !!! January 22, 2012

shes officially milking this cd Good girl gone bad style!

  13. Warren Tonack January 22, 2012

Hopefully there is the ever-rumored Rihanna-Katy collabo on this! I love “I Found Somone to Love/Turn the Lights Out.” I hope it’s really them. Love it! I hope there are some new Dr. Luke and/or Max Martin productions. I love all the leaked ones: “Dressin’ Up,” “Part of Me,” and “Milk Milk Lemonade.” “Part of Me” is absolutely the strongest one we have heard. Thank goodness I have copies of these awesome songs since they took them down.

  14. RYK101 January 22, 2012

i can’t blame her! if i were an artist and i had an album with the success of Good Girl Gone Bad, The Fame or Teenage Dream i would re-release it too! i mean the iron is still hot! And in Perry’s case her future is uncertain remember Dr. Luke would not longer be able to produce for her! The only problem I have with this is that a new song would probably hit #1 and she would break MJ’s record which it would be another way of “cheating” since the album had to be re-relased in order to achieve that, anyway we are in a new era and breaking records is easier than before so we should start to get used to it

I would have preferred her to release this new version last year, you know i feel like it is too old now, she should have done like Rihanna, screw the re-relase and make a whole new album (a la Loud and Talk That Talk), anyway i HOPE and PRAY there is this Rihanna/Katy collab it would DOMINATE

the only two songs I liked from Teanage Dream are, E.T and Firework…..

I actually never listen to the whole album, to make any judgement on it..

I never actually understood the purpose of re releasing an album..especially since the majority of the old songs are going to be on there..and all they do is add 2, 3 songs on there…

but good luck to her….I think shes has an ok voice…

  17. MaZ January 22, 2012

    F*A*I*L*

  18. dang January 22, 2012

    Annoying flop.. go away

  19. My name is Tom January 22, 2012

Part of me has been floating around since before the first release of Teenage dream lol

Sighs that the general public is far enough behind for this to be acceptable.

  20. RihannaNavy January 22, 2012

I want that Rihanna and Katy Perry collaboration!

  21. Perryperryperry January 22, 2012

I love her what a true talent … I used to hate her, but she writes her own songs (which are amazing, their never average ) she plays an instrument and sings 100% live, also her voice is so unique! Can’t wait!

  22. JohnVidal January 22, 2012

Pathetic! Girl leave it already. It´s going to be 2 years since the release and it´s not like it sold that much knowing it has been out for a year and a half and with several #1 singles. Either make a new one or be quiet, you are not great for wanting to desperately break records…

  23. jia January 22, 2012

I am beyond sick of this b****. I guess she makes money by having her small group of fans buy a million copies of everything. I hope it doesn’t sell and she fades fast.

  24. ChristinasCOMING January 22, 2012

Really? TD came out in 2010 and they’re just now re-releasing it?

What do you do when you’re trying to best Michael Jackson’s record and all the schemes and stunts you have pulled thus far have failed? Re-release the damn CD (not album) nearly a year a half later with 4 new songs to try and milk those #1’s.

This is why I can’t stand the likes of Katy, Gaga, and Rihanna. Relying on cheap gimmicks and tactics just to sell and remain relevant.

  25. AmbeRussell January 22, 2012

in her defense, she released 6 songs n is now doing a rerelease. well she does have the one ..away with 2 new versions, e.t. remix and last friday night remix. she should do a rerelease. though it is obvious that she is TRYING to get that 6th #1, n she nor her label are trying to hide it. ppl are “attacking her”, yet this is NOTHING NEW, besides the remix singles to score a record. but there was fame n there was fame monster (basiclly a rerelease since u could by both disc together), usher did it with confessions n had an ep for vs, rihanna gggb, etc etc etc. so dont diss her for following a common blueprint

    OHHHHH VERY EXCITED!

  27. Minajesty January 22, 2012

    @Christinascoming

couldnt agree more. even if this average chick breaks mjs record it wont be that monumental considering shes re releasing and milking. she shouts and whispers, people think if a singer doesnt lip sync it makes them good. cant wait for xtina to show these b****** what talent sounds like and not overrated, overexposed, average voices with big boobs.

  28. alana January 22, 2012

Wow, this windbag is really afraid to put out a new album. Her number ones don’t count to anyone who has been paying attention. The rerelease shouldn’t be treated as the same album but it will be because billboard is up her ass. The whole album has been, and will continue to be, a disgrace.

  29. JER January 22, 2012

completely no point in this re-release. In other news, Mariah readies the Ultra Aluminum Re-Release of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel

  30. Yasmin January 22, 2012

Thriller album was the result of perfected marketing and a new MJ look that he was going for, so of course it became a household staple- not to mention that the album had rock, r&b, funk, and soul. All of Michael’s post Thriller albums also became wonderful hits and he later on accepted that he would never be able to replicate its success: why else did the man end up selling 1 Billion records? This is very shameless from Katy and hopefully this will cause Billboard to review their rules. Besides, I hope MJ fans like myself realize that if Katy breaks this record good for her, it’s just a cross off on his GIANT resume LOL. Records are broken ALL the time, didn’t the Glee kids recently break an Elvis record? Doesn’t mean that a bunch of misfits are greater than the King of Rock and Roll. Katy is “Fast Food” music- her singles are very catchy and formulaic. But whatevs.

  31. ThatBoyLuke January 22, 2012

… I hate re releases, what happened to Artists making an album as a body of work with emotions and effort put into it’s production? These days h*** like this just throw out a CD of random BS songs and then throw a “re release” out to milk lame stans for annother copy and push numbers up to make themselves look better…

  32. Royalkev January 22, 2012

I can’t believe Katy is re-releasing this album after all this time. She really wants this MJ record a little too bad. This is D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E and T-A-C-K-Y!!! There really should be rules enforced to prevent records from being broken this way in the industry today. I hope Billboard and other recordkeeping sources keep a lot of space available for footnotes to explain all the trickery and how industry gimmicks resort to this stuff to cheat.

  33. On the real January 22, 2012

This is not a album it’s just a bunch of singles smashed into a cd sounds like Rihanna

  34. On the real January 22, 2012

And I am Sasha firce but Sasha firce sold critical acclaim

  35. Theman January 22, 2012

She should just really move on from this era.

  36. Rellz January 22, 2012

ive had those songs since early 2011 hope theres other new songs

  37. Mr bradshaw January 22, 2012

I have to agree with Sam on this.

This is so tacky and shameful but it’s comedy. She clearly doesn’t care what any of us thinks all she see is breaking MJ record.

    Do ur thing girl. Lol

  38. :D January 22, 2012

    no surprises there…

  39. BRETT COLES January 22, 2012

ROFL i don’t see what the problem is!
SHE HAS 5 NUMBER ONE SINGLES FROM THE SAME ALBUM AND 6TH SINGLE THAT WENT TO NUMBER 3!
You cant really call it milking it when its being successful!
It’s a huge a achievement in the music business and to celebrate she’s doing a re-release ( anyone can see she doing it for the fans )

A great example of ‘milking it’ would be LOUD – Rihanna
    ( I’m a big rihanna fun )

AND MORE TO THE POINT MJ RELEASED 9 SINGLES FROM ‘BAD’ after the first 5 the singles didn’t go anywhere so THAT’S MILKING IT!

    TEAM PATY PERRY!
IM LOOKIN FORWARD TO THE RE-RELEASE!!!!!

  40. ChristinasCOMING January 23, 2012

As that saying goes “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

TD sales have done very well and re-releases are generally for Cd’s that have poor sales so it’s obvious they’re only re-releasing to try and continue to break Michael’s record instead of releasing a whole new CD.

Y’all may not remember this but Katy did say at one point that the re-release plans were scrapped and she was taking a year off music.

  41. Minajesty January 23, 2012

    @Brett Coles

please dont be so naive. “shes doing it for the fans” is the dumbest s*** ive heard in a while. katy doesnt choose what she wants to do with her music, her handlers tell her what to do. she probably wants to release a full cd, but her management want to break that MJ record.

  42. Orange Juice January 23, 2012

Greedy and predictable move. Enough is enough.

  43. Orange Juice January 23, 2012

@Brett, the first 5 singles from Bad went to number one…

  44. Kayla January 23, 2012

This chick is good for a laugh…she’s not much good for anything else though. Watch her label send Billboard another check and magically this re-release will be treated like it’s “the same album.” The only record she’s breaking is for being the most desperate ass in the industry.

  45. number1k9 January 23, 2012

@ BRETT COLES is right! You cannont turly consider it milking the album when it has been the most successful Pop album in terms of hit singles over the past two years. Even in this day and age, artists are lucky to have 3 or four Top 5 singles from one album, let alone FIVE # 1 singles. And a 6th single that has peaked at #3… That is incredible!

And as someone else pointed out, if they include the:
    Kanye Single Version of “E.T.”
Missy Elliott Remix of “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”
    B.o.B Remix to “TOTGA”
    Acoustic Version of “TOTGA”

    + like 4-5 new songs…

I say that is worthy of a re-release! Now thats how I would re-release the album. Like that along with the original album. Because that is worthy or repruchasing even if you already own the original album (and especially if a stan/super fan). Not like some re-releases in the past which tack on like 3 new songs; example ‘Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded’

Anywho, I would love to hear the reworked songs from the ‘TD’ sessions, and some new tracks as well. I suppose they could follow the more current trend and just release a new ‘EP’ instead… But either way they will prob digitally release it as an ‘EP.’ But seriously, why should KP slow down, no more Russell Brand holding her down/back. She’s young, LET HER BE!

  46. Me January 23, 2012

Almost every artist in the industry have used that formular. Starting from the big Bro Usher-confessions, versus, Riri GGGB, think also Gaga did bt m not sure, Bey’s Delux Versions, Standard Versions, Spanish Versions, Extended Versions e.t.c Of her albums and songs. If the album still got a potential, exhaust all the possible options. I think riri’s loud still had some potential. If she had rereleased it with additional songs sch as WFL, TTT,SandM, it was going to do wonders. So lets train our memories not to be selective coz katty is not the first one no she will be the last one to do this. I am not a stan at all bt m just level headed.
SN:I hope the motive behind the rerelease of TD is not to break MJ’s record.

  47. BRETT COLES January 23, 2012

    @ Everyone!

ROFL I’m not saying that Mj didn’t have 5 number one singles! i’m saying that MJ had 9 singles from bad! and you say that Katy Perry is milking her record with 6

    Mj’s 6th Single went to number 11
7th Single went to number 7
8th Didnt chart in the US hot 100
9th Didnt chart in US hot 100

WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS HOW YOU ALL THINK SHES MILKING IT WHEN CLEARLY MJ WAS MILKING IT!

SHES STILL IN THE TOP 5 WITH HER 6TH SINGLE = SUCCESSFUL

SHE’S NOT RELEASING ANYMORE SINGLES BUT INSTED IS DOING A RE-RELEASE JUST TO FINISH OFF THE RECORD!

  48. Kayla January 24, 2012

@Brett Michael wasn’t desperately trying to get number 1’s. He got five number 1’s easily. I’m pretty sure the 6th single went to number 2. He was using the singles to sell the album, and it worked. The album sold about 30 million copies. When is your girl Katy going to do that? Just asking….
