Kelly Rowland, John Legend Lend Their Talents To Tribute Muhammad Ali

With fans already anticipating her forthcoming tribute to Billboard champion Mariah Carey, knockout beauty Kelly Rowland is reportedly one of many tapped to honor boxing legend Muhammad Ali at the 16th Annual Power of Love Gala.  The event, which will double as Ali’s 70th birthday celebration, has assembled some of music’s finest to pay homage to the prized fighter including John Legend, Lenny Kravitz, Cee Lo Green, and more.

The annual affair aims to bring awareness to causes like Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, ALS, and Parkinson’s (which Ali presently suffers from).  Hosted by the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, all proceeds from the event will fund Louisville, Kentucky’s ‘Muhammad Ali Center’ and Cleveland, Ohio’s ‘Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health’.

Fans who are unable to attend the February 18th event should not fret as it will be televised on ABC Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. EST/ 4 p.m.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. People underestimate Kelly and compare her to that other girl from Destiny’s Child, but up until now, Kelly wasn’t getting the opportunity to show the world what she’s really capable of. Now that she is finally getting more televised gigs (in the U.S.) and more platforms on which to showcase the one thing that really matters, her voice; I think a lot of people are going to have to eat their words.
All this talk about Kelly not being able to pull off a Mariah Carey song. Why can’t she? Kelly has a powerful voice. She has a wide range (just because she’s not screaming or hitting stratospheric notes every two minutes doesn’t mean she can’t. We’ve all heard her do it before). Kelly also has amazing tonal quality. There’s no denying Kelly has a great voice; she does. The question is, can Kelly become a more CONSISTENTLY great live performer? I believe she can. I’m just happy she’s FINALLY getting opportunities to showcase herself. She’s a vocal force to be reckoned with, and it’s about time people began realizing and respecting her for that.

I’ve always loved her, there’s something special about this underated beauty. I believe this year we will see what Kelly Rowland can do on the mic. I love what her team is doing at the moment, they need to just keep the momentum going it makes sense for her to do more things on tv and combine it with her first love which is music. I need to hear that big anouncement for the Xfactor switch. Now its time to sit back and watch Kelly take her place next to greats.

  19. wow January 14, 2012

Finally a REAL sister (brown-blackblue) getting some shine! I’m tired of seeing all of these successful light skinned light haired “black girls” getting all the shine! Next…Lauryn Hill, Brandy, India Irie, and Azealia Banks. Only then can America and young black girls get a TRUE REAL representation of black talent!

@x y and z it is painfully obvious that kelly rowland doesnt have good album sales and her live performances still need work however constantly pointing out her failure and weaknesses is getting old. personally i respect kelly for trying i can see all she wants is some recognition. if you took some time out just to be positive itll go a long way. you come across as bitter. call it being truthful if u want. i find it to be a lil disturbing you dnt have spread ur negativity on here. im not lookin for an online arguement i just thought id address that u can reply if youd like. just b respectful thank u
