7-time Grammy winner Madonna gave new meaning to the title ‘Queen of Pop’ as she popped, locked, and dropped it on the Lucas Oil Stadium Superbowl stage at tonight’s long-anticipated set. Giving her first live rendition of soon-to-be-hit ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ (with Hip Hop eccentrics M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj), the Bridgestone-sponsored showing brought the ‘Borderline’ beauty to the Indianapolis halftime-stage where she also lent electric performances of past hits ‘Vogue’, ‘Music’, and more.
Also accompanied by party rockers LMFAO and ‘Crazy’ singer Cee Lo Green, see Madonna and co. get into the groove after the jump:

Hot. Ass. Mess.
That performance was horrible from the lip syncing to pre-recorded vocals (if that) to the fact that she looked like an old woman trying to keep onstage next to her dancers. The whole thing was just a disappointment although I didn’t expect much from her anyway. She should’ve been taking notes from Janet’s performance on how to actually entertain a crowd instead of being rude and arrogant as usual.

I watched it just to get my laugh. She was stiff, couldn’t keep up with her crew of backup dancers, slow and she almost fell. Lmao! Never has and never will see Damita on the stage. And *gasp* she was LIPPING . According to Madonna fans, she doesn’t do that. It was too much going on at once. Didn’t understand a word Nicki said. Just a H.A.M.
She’s old and wack. time to retire. If anything, Jan has killer choreo and doesn’t need 20+ Dancers onstage to do so. That is all!

Average at best. Very stiff, no choreography. Relied on other to help her get comfy on stage. Everyone lip synced. She even lipped a mid tempo with a chorus. She almost fell. Couldn’t walk in her heels.

First of all Janet still has THE defining Superbowl performance and she was / is only second to Michael in terms of amazing SB performances and knowing how to work a stage in general. Madonna TRIED to be entertaining but almost busted her ass on national television in front of millions of people. She simply comes off as someone’s old, worn out Grandmother who is still trying to run with a younger crowd.

I’m sorry but Madonna didn’t kill anything. The only decent performance was when she performed Like A Prayer with Cee-Lo Green. All of that hype, and she failed to live up to it.
Plus, cheerleading coming from a 53 year old woman looked utterly ridiculous.
I never did think Madge was that great of a dancer. Also, the song is terrible, but nonetheless the song will be a smash because she’s Madonna.

The entrance was genius but then it went down the drain. I felt really awkard watching her. It was like a cheap aerobic video from the 80s, like her song. Her songs are still relevant? Yes, in pop history but she destroyed theses songs herself with this performance. When she sang “I hear you call my name” it was the most narcisstic thing I ever saw from a so-called superstar. She’s the queen? Ok, thank God she’s not my queen.

Love both Janet and Madonna-
Madonna “over did ” this show- She got lost in the theatrics of it all.. lights- stage- dancers. TOO MUCH.. did NOT translate well on TV. Her narcissistic personality has gotten the best of her. All of the smack that she was talking about Elton J., Lady Gaga, and Janet has come home to roost.. .
Oh.. and a pop singer “no no” that SHE (the so called queen) should know NOT to do, is have someone on stage that SINGS LIVE and BETTER than YOU… Cee Lo killed her on her own song… LOL.
She also has just about everyone in the Billboard Top 10 (LMFAO/ Nicki Minaj/ MIA… i was waiting for Adele) and she barely used them… hello? (see Blackeyed Peas/ Usher .. L.Y.)
As much as i like Madonna, if i had to compare between she and Janets performances (titty and all).. .JANET KILLED IT- She just a better dancer/performer in this case. .and left yall with something to think about years later….. STILL TALKING ABOUT IT…LOL.. There have been 7-8 acts SINCE and all we remember is Janet performance when the titty came out.. WOW… (Fear of a Black Titty- LOL)

I’ m sorry but Madonna didn’ t kill anything. The only decent performance was Like A Prayer with Cee-Lo. The beginning was a snoozefest, and you could clearly hear it in the audience because they weren’ t that enthusiastic throughout the entire performance.
Plus, cheerleading coming from a 53 year old mother of 3 looked ridiculous. The performance did not live up to the hype.

I honestly thought Madge was going to step it up with that intro. I thought I’d have to eat my words a few minutes in, but once that was done she went back to skipping, running, hopscotch, bending, yoga and playing with pam pams. Her dancers are the show, they really do all the work! I hope when Madonna retires from music she consider making dvds as an aerobic instructor. It’s her passion and it’s been finding it’s way in her art for years.

THIS PERFORMANCE TRUMPED BOTH MICHAEL’S AND JANET’S! i’m sorry. this performance was fucking epic. the intro alone slayed 70% of other superbowl halftime shows.
to compare madge and jan is silly when A)BOTH performances were lip synced to the gods (as was michael’s) AND Janet/Michael were both in their 30s. idk what kinda choreography yall really expect from a 53 year old woman. my mom is in her 40s and couldn’t even do half the shit madge did on stage.

What was so epic about her performance? It was so average. It will be forgotten sooner than you think. I had to go see Janet’s performance to remind me why Janet performance out slayed everyone in the game. Because Beyonce herself is really great and energetic performance , she wouldn’t have got lost behind the dancers and the stage.
Janet being one of the greatest performance would have drawn us in to her. Her facial expressions, her walk, how she swings her head. She wouldn’t have gotten lost either.
Madonna kinda seem like they just placed her in the center, and let everything around her move.
Madge is flexible and she def rep for the 50+ ladies…. but it doesn’t change the fact that she didn’t bring anything to the performance.

I’m sorry, but when Michael stood on that stage with no mirrors, smoke, dancers, etc, n stood there for nearly a min n the crowd still went crazy. Crowd dies down n he takes his shades off n the crowds roars AGAIN, that is truly being epic. No stage setting etc just his presence was EPIC. n if u ain’t gonna dance, sing live but dint drag every1 else down with u by having them lip sync as well

First of all EVERYONE lips syncs at the Super Bowl. Michael, Janet, Justin, Usher etc. Madonna was no different, they have such limited time and with choreography it’s the best option for sound so that arguement is dead. Second Madonna is 53, not 25 and can still dance better than Britney (who’s lost it since 2006) and GaGa. Finally Madge had a pulled hamstring…and STILL danced her ass off. The performance was not good, it was f-ing EPIC. Like a Prayer was live too

I don’t agree with many of the comments on here. I think her performance was ok. I don’t remember Madonna being some great dancer or live singer a decade ago so I did not expect much with this performance. In fact I think she did better than expected. While I think it is easy to criticize her for being stiff and having “too many” dancers and “theatrics” on stage but I think it is good that she shared a little bit of her spotlight with other people (Nicki, Cee-Lo, and MIA) and the dancers were needed because a halftime show has to be entertaining. She has been in the game a long time and knows what it takes to entertain a crowd when you cannot sing live and are not a great dancer.

I thought the performance was visuall perfect. I see both sides for those who think it’s trash and those who think its epic. Looking at the ENTIRE performance, it was good, it was grand and like a movie. Breaking things down of course it’s not perfect.
I believe EVERYONE was lip syncing and Madonnas dancing was minimal and kinda sluggiish at parts, so if that’s your standard of perfection, I guess she failed. I’m looking at the entire thing and I thought it was really well put together. Whoever was in charge of producing Madonnas halftime show absolutely killed it. Bravo to them!

That was a Michael Jackson Remember the Time in the beginning and Heal the World at the end. Oh so original….. I know I was talking shit about Madonna before but I honestly thought as raunchy as she is that she would have killed it! I’ll give it to her tho she did well for a middle aged woman. But then again Tina Turner who is like 70 brought more energy than beyonce’ at the grammys a couple of years ago. She had energy I’ll give her that but I didn’t see nothing but smoke and mirrors. Of course it was a good production, the amount of money they put into these half time shows they had better be!!! But as far as her dancing ummm… err.. yeah I’ll pass. Def not on Michael or Janet’s level but you stans can stay delusional i guess if it helps you sleep better at night = )

Honestly growing up hearing Madonna music is way better back in the day than this horrible mess!!! I got turned off right when she did Remember The Time, and she was the same one back in 1993 dissing Michael, the same way she’s dissing Janet. MADONNA IS NOT HUMBLE!!!! That performance was WEAK!!! performing is not dancing ONLY , it is SINGING properly ” while hitting notes” NOT LIPSYNCING and DAncing without losing your breath during that process.
if it is dancing only while lip-syncing then it is ONLY DANCING.
if it is Singing only with no dance = VOCAL performance.
by that logic , JANET is a great dancer. just that !! cuz her live voice is non-listenable and non-existent !!

One thing I have to say is that I LOVED the stage! It was awesome. When she arrived and did Vogue, I was like “ok this looks promising”. However it all went down from there. I can’t believe she lipped every song. I mean, I can understand the lipping from the Vogue performance, but from the Like A Prayer performance when she was just standing there? C’mon Madonna! All in all, it wasn’t as great as I thought it would be.

The only people in denial are GaGa stans (psychotic like GaGa is even close to Madge’s level) or Janet stans jealous that Madge still sells records, breaks records, and runs the music works. I think the stage was the best thing about this performance. It was just spectacular. Overall the performance was good and superbowl worthy; great production. Nicki and MIA added nothing but thats not their fault, they werent needed on the song in d 1st place so there’s only so much they could do on stage whilst in Madonna’s cheer squad. LMFAO made good of their airtime. The best guest appearance goes to Ceelo and reason is pretty obvious. As for Madonna, she had a couple of miss moments like awkward dancing, slipping and her hit moments like the lil acrobatics, she is afterall in her 50s. She def put alot effort into it. I applaud her n her team for that. It’s the superbowl! The stakes dont get any higher. I give it a B+ For those who need the obvious to be stated, this is my opinion and i need u to agree nor approve

I rated this performance okay, purely for Like a Prayer which was the best bit of the show and is one of the few Madonna songs I really like. She lipsynched all the way through it, even Nicki and MIA did – I suppose that was so they wouldn’t make her look bad as neither of them need to lipsynch. For those saying that EVERYONE lipsyncs at the Superbowl, I can tell you one person who would have sang live – Gaga! I’d rather hear someone sing live anyday, I know people didn’t go to the Superbowl to see the halftime show but its not good from an artist of her stature. I won’t compare to previous Superbowl performances as I’m not American and have never bothered watching them.
The stage set was impressive but it was a bit overdone and the music was kind of lost in it, her dancing was of variable quality and whoever said she is a better dancer than Gaga needs fucking glasses! She was never a great dancer or a great live singer (although I would have given her props once upon a time for being a good performer/entertainer) so that didn’t exactly surprise me, don’t believe a word of it about the hamstring strain – that was a perfect ready-made excuse to cover any slips she made.
LMFAO were completely irrelevant and out of place, she had WAY too many people on that stage overall. I laughed at her arrogance with that massive parade and entering on a huge throne, I’m not sure that had quite the impact she was hoping for, we have to remember that younger people will not really have heard Madonna much, and what they have heard is the last stuff she did before she took a break, which was some of the worst of her career (4 Minutes totally sucked).
So, not as bad as I feared, but not as good as it could have been. Until I see her sing live I am giving her comeback no credit at all, I have no time for lipsynchers and that is an attitude many have toda. I credit Beyonce with bringing live singing back into prominence and paving the way for the llikes of Gaga and even Rihanna and Katy Perry singing live (I’d rather hear someone sing live and it be somewhat imperfect any day). Britney’s UK tour tickets were being sold off for half price on Groupon, that in itself indicates our attitude to people lipsyching on stage at the moment, it is no longer acceptable and this is the way it should be – those who can’t cope with live singing should hang up their “mikes” for good!

I think she tried to do too much and it backfired.
The intro was good, but then she cut the song short. Then everything was pretty redundant, until Like a Prayer. Still, Cee Lo there kind of made her seem not the star but a co-star.
She wanted to perform too many songs in such a short time, so it was more like a quick medley of songs, everything happening too fast, too many dancers and changes and outfits and way too many guests and lipsynching.

I have one thing to say. Madonna was a mess. Take away all the stage antics, take away the amy and focus on madonna and she did nothing. I think yall are getting confused with the entertainer and the colorful stuff presented to yall. THis doesn’t make anybody a great performer.
Any artist who is able to entertain with their dance, voice and stage presence and move a crowd is a great performer. \after saying this RATED XXXX who seems so pressed. Britney can never be a better entertainer than Beyonce, nor madonna. It has been said not by fans alone but by critics. Beyonce is a force on stage and you will place her on there with all your favs and her volume alone will shut it down.
Go watch a britney dvd bitch and sit down. madonna is better than britney and janet is better than madonna. when i was younger I would have jumped high and low for thsi performance but now that i know better, why should i when all i see is lip syncing and no entertaining from the person who is getting the cheque? I somehow think that is the efeect it is having on some youngsters now. The glitter, the smoke, the colors..her stage slayed NOT MADONNA. janet would dance circles around madonna. Yes she is, better than Madonna at least, if not as good as Beyonce. More to the point, she works at improving her dancing, she is a lot better now than she was in the early days of her career, Madonna seems to think she doesn’t have to bother because, of course, she is the queen of pop (although I don’t think she will hold that title much longer). If you think Madonna is a better dancer than Gaga, you are kidding yourself ;o)

SAETANA – sorry I must commend gaga on this one. She has great vocals but i was more relating to the theatrics. If only she perform with less of it them people will stop throwing the word gimmick at her. she is a great performer and entertainer but should prove it without so many distractions.
To be honest the only two artist remaining for the superbowl are gaga and Beyonce. I cannot think of any other artist. Well maybe britney if she have to do the exact thing madonna did and on her dvd’s. FUCK INSTEAD OF PAVING THE WAY FOR GREAT ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE FUTURE ARTIST THEY MAKE IT SEEM GREAT AND OK TO FUCKING LIPSYNC AND LET THEIR STAGE AND DANCERS DO THE WORK. FUCKING UNTALENTED BITCHES.

Wow! It was amazing!! I won’t even start to examine whether the dancers and the theatrics overshadowed her like some others said, I’ll just say that this was an exceptional show from beginning to end, perfect for the Superbowl and entertaining throughout!
Madonna has established a new found lane; she’s the popstar that isn’t willing to age and she sealed the deal when she started suffling with LMFAO. Even though I would prefer more mature stuff, like the ROL era, I still think that it’s quite admirable how she commanded such a huge stage during her 50′s and that performance was a notable event for pop culture, definitely…

The thing is with Gaga though, the theatrical stuff is part of her performance, she was a burlesque act with Lady Starlight before she made it big and went to theatre school, this is really obvious when I watch the Monster Ball DVD, the one song that isn’t on any of her albums (Glitter and Grease) could have come straight out of a musical. Yes, people who don’t normally rate her have increased respect when they hear her sing acoustic whilst playing her piano (or whatever other weird instrument she chooses). I think maybe she willl do a jazz album one day, she was in the jazz band at school and definitely has talent in that area, but I think she will want to take Madonna’s Queen of Pop title first (she hasn’t done it yet, Madonna has longevity going for her, that remains to be seen with Gaga, burnout is always a danger for young overly hardworking artists).
Let’s hope the Superbowl people see sense next year and choose someone who can actually sing live, its got to be Beyonce’s turn by now ;o)

I liked the performance. Madonna always has the best visuals. Can she dance? No, unless you count yoga moves as actual dancing (I don’t)…Lip-syncing is the way a grand spectacle should be done, I agree with the earlier posts on that one. Loved her choice of vintage hits but that new song is utter horsecrap!!!!! It will only be successful because its M-A-D-O-N-N-A. Ugh, I hope the album’s better….Oh, and I’m sure Beyonce’s people are probably lobbying for her to be SB 2013 since she is determined to get on the “legend” train about 15 years too soon.

Oh I definitely give Madonna credit for her long career, I’m actually curious why she had not done the Superbowl years ago when she was at her peak (Ray of Light for me personally). I would have preferred her to sing live and not dance if she can’t do both at once, she had about 300 dancers on the stage, there was no need for her to join them, dancing is a talent like any other and there are plenty of singers who can’t dance (not saying she can’t dance at all but she looked stiff at the Superbowl). Its a shame it wasn’t all as good as Like a Prayer, I’ve always liked that song but I thought the rest of it was too many songs strung together, it never works very well. Gaga was guilty of doing the same on New Year’s Eve and her vocals suffered for it. I think most of us would rather hear two complete songs than a mashup of several ;o)

I have to give it to that old ass… The set was AMAZING!!! Thats where it stops.
1. Bad Lip Syncing
2. Horrible dancing
3. Nicki was a mess for that lipped rap. And she doesnt add a damn thing to that song. That song didnt need her.
4. Horrid dancing. 53 year old women cant still get up and dance a couple of minutes. So dont use that damn excuse.
I did like “Like a Prayer”… But would you have CEE LO outsing you??
And we can be honest…. Janet’s career has been in the dumps. But lets face it she gets on stage and makes you believe every moment of her performances.
POOR old crusty MADGE. She shouldve put her all into that performace.

Don’t act like Janet hasn’t declined in the dance department. Her moves are getting tired to be honest. I just enjoyed hearing some of the old Madonna songs last night. It was nice to see her on stage again. I admit I’m not very objective when it comes to Madonna. She is a huge part of my childhood. Her videos from the 80′s were among the first that I really enjoyed and then I enjoyed Janet’s later. Madonna just put a stamp on pop culture and now all of the new pop divas are just a variations on what she started (Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Keisha, etc.). She will always have my respect.

Madonna last night was wack. She depended on visuals to save her. Her age truly showed last nite. Like hang it up, jeez. Ppl wasnt even into the performance. Once again Janet Jackson’s SB performance still and will ever will be untouchable. I think even Janet’s Houston Dome Number Ones Tour last year was better then that shit. See the difference between Madonna and Janet is one depends on visuals meaning a gimmick while the other depends on her own gifted talent.

The performance Suck and age is but a number. Hell Tina Turner is 70+ and can out perform Madonna. I was hoping she would pull this off with all the crap she was talking. Its amazing how nice people are everyone knows the only thing that was great was the backup dancer and production. Sam should be Stop if this was Rihanna he would have rip her a new one.

After read all your comments i understand and i learn not to judge a performance that i watch on tv, thing that i do, just like everybody here, i was there, the show was great, she was amazing, nothing controversial, she looks amazing it’s just a pleasure to see this woman at her age doing things like this, a lots new young singers feel the fear of Madonna, if that does not tell you something, them you’re lost, cause no many mature’s women like Madonna make young singers looks bad, the only thing bad for me was that we people in the stands could not be closer to her but i was there to support my Queen, i think the whole stadium heard me screaming, it was my night and my team won the Super Bowl I could not ask for more. I’m very proud of her, i do have faith in her.

First of all, I’m not going to make comparisions. Jane’ts performance was 8 years ago.
Hagdonna: The production and stage was great!!! Madge herself was botoxed down, and stiff (then again, she’s never been a great dancer even in her 20s).
She looked nervous. The show was okay when she stuck to her old material. The new song was horrible. Nicki Minaj is no longer buzz worthy. M.I.A was random and classless. Ceelo did a great job singing her song

the others you named gaga, ke$ha, etc may have followed in the steps of madonna but britney hit the stage shadowing janet and her videos show it. there’s not a damn thing in her ‘hit me baby’ video or any of the other of her videos that are madonna-esque.
madonna may be queen of pop but janet is queen of female dance videos.
madge deserves lots of credit but let’s steer clear of the deluded zone.

But Madonna dances better than Gaga, she did start out as a professional dancer after all, whereas Gaga started out as a real musician, pianist, singer and composer, LOL. Madonna did a magnificent job and executed with precision, I was in awe and I despise Madonna. The problem I think we’re seeing is that she did not engage the audience on an emotional level, it was a cold performance, so maybe that’s why we feel she didn’t perform as well as Janet Jackson? If you see JJ’s superbowl, she was able to command and engage the audience with her sheer magnetism, and made her performance personal and engaging (the audience went wild), even though she didn’t have the set design or the perfectly placed choreography of Madonna’s. JJ knows how to work and rock out an audience. Also, Gaga can command the attention of a corpse with just her and a piano–I see the worst, deadest crowds go crazy (Clinton Decade of Difference Concert) and all Gaga had to do is smile. So, Gaga and Janet have that special something, call it charisma, audience participation or what have you, that Madonna seems to be missing?

Madonna has done worse thing then showing her tits, but she has not been banned from shows etc. Whereas Janet was banned from tv shows etc, so how do you suppose she makes a huge comeback without being able to show her face on our TV screen ot have her music played on the radio?
