Report : Cher Lloyd Weighs In On Cheryl Cole

Published: Thursday 16th Feb 2012 by David

For Cheryl Cole, her stint of X Factor UK is somewhat of a bitter sweet affair.

Because, while it was the launching pad for her surface successful career, it also saw her ‘groom’ acts that have gone on to fare better than she is.

Case in point, Alexandra Burke, Rebecca Ferguson and Cher Lloyd, all of which have seen their music best Cole’s critical and commercial efforts.

Now, the latter has reportedly weighed in on the singer’s vocal skill.

Her remarks below…

When asked if she would collaborate with Cole in a recent interview, Lloyd is reported to have said:

Maybe, if she’d sing live with me.

When the interviewee asked if she thought Cole would find ‘live singing’ challenging, she answered:

Well, it always is nowadays, when you ain’t got the nifty little buttons to press.

Prompting Cheryl to tweet:

Be careful who you kick on your way up… They kick you twice as hard on your way back down.

If anyone is offended by Cher’s remarks, it is only because the truth hurts.

Indeed- and very much to her detriment-  Cheryl Cole’s lack of talent and ambition is the very reason she stays losing to girls she essentially discovered.

And, if she knows what’s good for her, she won’t respond to Lloyd directly. Because if she does, she might just find herself on the wrong side LA Reid, the Pop svengali behind Cher’s career.

  2. MUSICISME February 16, 2012

Ummm, and I guess we are supposed to take what from this, as I know it is not that Cher Lloyd has talent… And under no circumstance has Cher Lloyd fared better than Cheryl Cole… No way near… Has nobody checked her record sales… Never mind that fact that she will never be taken serious as an artist AND she isnt any good!

  3. Guy Lambert February 16, 2012

This should not read ‘Report’ it should read ‘Opinion’. You are presenting it as a news story, but in actuality it’s an opinion piece.

The sentence “Cheryl Cole’s lack of talent and ambition is the very reason she stays losing to girls she essentially discovered…” is a totally subjective opinion, lacking any actual objective facts to support it.

A really poor piece of ‘journalism’.

  4. RomansLaceFront February 16, 2012

to the above comment, you must not know websites work. They tell the story and then give THEIR opinion. What’s wrong with that? These sites don’t have an obligation to be fair to artists they dont like.

cheryl cole is actually more succesful than alex rebecca and cher , in girlls aloud and as a solo artist , and Cher need to sit dwn , her 15 mins are almost up

  6. Guy Lambert February 16, 2012

It’s put forward as a ‘Report’, not an opinion piece. In proper journalism, you report facts and not opinion. The fact that the opinion is then not even backed up by any facts is sloppy. I expect a bit more from a website that has clearly invested so much in its branding.

  7. MISHKA February 16, 2012

Cheryl Cole should have not answered to the little broad.

I don’t follow UK bands that much but she’s the only one who caught my attention when she was part of Girls Aloud. That’s her talent, she’s engaging.

And she is pretty. Like Kate Beckinsale/ Jessica Alba/Selena Gomez – pretty. Those girls are not really talented entertainers but they will never run out of magazine covers or red carpets.

For once, I agree with TGJ, she just lacks ambition.

    @GUY LAMBERT

Actually, you have it wrong. This IS a report. ThatGrapeJuice are REPORTING the NEWS that Cher Lloyd slammed Cheryl Cole on radio.

The sentence that you quoted was merely their opinion they decided to add on to the end of the report, which they have every right to do so, considering it is their blog.

It’s your fault that you can’t distinguish between the ‘report’ part of the post and the ‘opinion’ part.

  9. Tyler February 16, 2012

Whsts the big deal with Cheryl cole??? If I’m not mistaken doesn’t Britney lip sync. Would miss Cher say the same to Britney? And Cheryl cole dances Cher can’t. And neither Cher Alexandra or Rebecca has sold more records than Cheryl . So I’m confused????

  10. Guy Lambert February 16, 2012

No, I don’t accept that. This is not publicised as a blog, it’s paraded as a proper news site (see the ‘About’ section). You don’t see this sort of thing happened on, say, Digital Spy. I do feel there needs to be a clearer distinction between the two, but then maybe I just believe in that old-fashioned journalism that the web is throwing aside so that everyone can pretend to be a journalist nowadays.

What you may find is that a Court won’t see the difference you point out. If you promote something as fact, you better be careful what you say that is actually opinion.

  11. TIMMI February 16, 2012

    @GUY LAMBERT

Did you even take the time to read my post? Because it seems to have flown right over your head.

Like I previously explainined to you, they did not present their opinions as a fact. You obviously have trouble reading.

The title of the post is:

“Report: Cher Lloyd Weighs In On Cheryl Cole”

    NOT

“Report: Cheryl Cole’s lack of talent and ambition is the very reason she stays losing to girls she essentially discovered”

That comment was merely their opinion on the REPORT of Cher slamming Cheryl, which they decided to add on to the end.

  12. TIMMI February 16, 2012

And again, you seem to have trouble reading and understanding what you read.

In the ‘About’ section, they merely state that they are a source for urban news, amongst other things. And if you go on to read further, you will also find the following quotes:

“After becoming well-acquainted with the proliferation of Urban Entertainment websites and blogs, the Londoner (then 18) decided to create his own”

“Born out his love for all things ‘Urban’, Sam simply sought to share his thoughts and opinions on the latest happenings”

“So, drawing on aspects of the magazine’s concept as well as today’s blog/internet culture of supplying the ‘juice’, That Grape Juice was born”

    End of debate.

  13. TIMMI February 16, 2012

The ‘About’ section (that you chose to reference, by the way :D) clearly states how it draws on blog culture and also clearly states that Sam “sought to share his thoughts and opinions on the latest happenings”.

Therefore, if you don’t like what you are seeing here: Leave.

  14. Guy Lambert February 16, 2012

In my PERSONAL opinion, news stories (‘reports’) should avoid opinion if the site concerned is promoting itself as a valid news site (as indeed it is). You keep referring to this as a ‘blog’, but it’s not, it’s a website promoted as a news site. If this was called ‘Sandra blogs about music’, I’d consider this a valid post. But to me, this website is promoting itself as a news site and so should be more considerate when it comes to expressing its opinions. Digital Spy are a comparable site who never add opinions to their news, they do it appropriately on their review pages.

And as I said above, while you may wish to make this distinction, but I don’t agree, and that could be problematic for the publishers of this site legally.

  15. Guy Lambert February 16, 2012

Then why isn’t it called ‘That Grape Juice Blog’? Because the guy promoting it is doing so as a proper website.

Anyway I’m bored of this. I’ve expressed an opinion and your tone is incredibly and increasingly patronising.

  16. TIMMI February 16, 2012

    @GUY LAMBERT

Patronising? No. I just get the feeling you are arguing more for yourself esteem and stubbornness rather than actually believing you are right.

You have made up your own impressions/ideas of what this website should be and consequently misled yourself. And unless this is your first visit to this website, I fail to see where you would get the idea that this site should be presenting news only.

There are plenty of websites like the one you mentioned (DigitalSpy) that people could go to if they only wanted the straight facts/news about music. If people did not like reading and agreeing with or participating in debates over Sam’s comments they would visit those websites instead of websites such as these.

Generally, the format for the postings on this website is to post the report/story and then the author (whether it be Sam, or another member of TGJ staff) posts their opinion on the story at the end of the post. It has been the same ever since I can remember. Have a look through the posts on this site. Here’s a example that I just grabbed straight off the front page…

“Excuse us while we wash the taste of “meh” out of our mouths. For, while by no means criminal, both the song and video are all a bit sub-par. All a bit Olly Murs, if you will.”

I really don’t know where you’re getting the idea this is a straight news-only website… But you have obviously been misled.

  17. TIMMI February 16, 2012

And your argument about it not being called “That Grape Juice Blog” is ridiculous and childish and it took me a while to decide whether to even justify it with a response.

But since I have the time on my hands, Perez Hilton is a self-certified and renowned blogger yet his website isn’t titled “Perez Hilton Blog”.

You’re clutching at straws now. Accept defeat and find a website that suits your needs more; this clearly isn’t, never has been and probably never will be it.

  18. Dev February 16, 2012

I’ve read all these comments, especially Guy Lambert v Everyone else, and feel compelled to comment.
Guy, this is a blog. If you’re looking for “proper journalism” there are other places you can go.
No disrespect to TGJ but i look to this blog for music news and entertainment, and also a laugh. If i’m looking for factual information or world affairs i’m not really coming here for that.

  19. Dev February 16, 2012

Oh, i also don’t agree with the comment about Cheryl being more engaging, i personally found Nadine more engaging as she was the best singer and that came through in her performances….
Although Cher may have a point she really isn’t one to deliver it with her own vocal talents.

  20. tyra February 16, 2012

HAHA SAM DO A POST ON RIHANNA DOING A COLLABO WITH BREEZY ITS BEEN CONFIRMED BY BILLBOARD LOL THE NACY GONE LOSE THIER MARBLES SHE BEEN PLAYING EM

  21. Ange February 16, 2012

Cheryl is pretty but she is not a renowned musical talent. Cher can sing, I don’t follow her music but I was impressed by her first X Factor audition.

  22. VIVIENE J February 16, 2012

I saw this on loose women this morning, they played the radio interview and there was a little more to it but in essence she was out on the spot and answered truthfully, she would work with Cheryl if she would sing live with her. People keep saying Cher was rude and to respect her elder in the game but they missing the point, the truth hurts but Cheryl doesn’t sing live and as much as I’m not really a fan of Cher she does have vocals (when she wants to, e.g stay with me performance on Xfactor) and does sing live.

I’m a singer too and wouldn’t want to perform with anyone who was gonna mime…

  23. @antertain February 16, 2012

Nothing wrong with wanting live vocals when duet.

    Cheryl shouldn’t be so defensive

  24. Mandy February 16, 2012

WHAT??? Didn’t Cheryl Cole fight for this girl and favour her during X factor?
Cher only has the guts to throw shade at this woman because so many others have, she is nothing but a child.
