New Song: Rita Ora – ‘R.I.P (ft. Tinie Tempah)’

Published: Wednesday 29th Feb 2012 by Sam

ROC Nation have rolled out the red carpet treatment for latest priori (and reported Rihanna replacement) Rita Ora.

Last week saw Jay Z personally launch the  21 year old and her Stateside single ‘Party & B*llshit’ at the US’ biggest radio station. Today sees the premiere of the Brit beauty’s first official UK single ‘R.I.P’.

Crafted by an all-star cast, Drake penned the track, which was co-produced by both Stargate and Chase & Status. What’s more, fellow Brit Tinie Tempah features.

Does it live up to the hype? Find out after the jump…

We like.

Gritty, edgy, and hard-hitting, the track does a commendable job positioning Ora as an International entity, while retaining a quintessential aura of “British”.

What Ora may lack in vocal prowess is negated by convicted delivery (see: swag) and stellar production; which together with the song’s anthemic chrous and solid feature, easily makes for potential smash.

Eh……. NEH. She needs to find her own lane cos really, for debut material?

  2. GagaDele February 29, 2012

Tinie Tempah stood out on this track to me not her. I think P&BS is the better track

  3. aishaaguilerakeys February 29, 2012

But it’s not even the same style as Riri. Please don’t end the girl’s career before it’s started. The song’s ok, but I honestly think this is more white girl pop. Reason why she sounds like Riri is because she got the same team.

  4. aishaaguilerakeys February 29, 2012

I see this doing well in the UK though.

  5. XOXO February 29, 2012

    i love it!

  6. dontcare February 29, 2012

Love it! N love her…def gon be a hit!

  7. MISHKA February 29, 2012

I like this. Drake is annoying sometimes but he did a great job.

She will find her own lane, I believe it. Rihanna’s unique talent is the sound of her voice, which makes her unique. But she can’t sing to save her plate of fufu.

Rita Ora on the other hand can really sing, so she should sing more contemporary ballads like Bruno Mars does. She looks pretty and likable, she should rely on that and sing songs that showcase her voice and a softer persona.

  8. MISHKA February 29, 2012

I see her more like a young Gwen Stefani. Chic and girl next door at the same time.

  9. tyra February 29, 2012

LOL I THINK JAY Z IS TRYNA MARKET HER TO THE WHITE AUDIENCE FIRST CAUSE IT TAKES LESS TIME TO MAKE HER A STAR IF U GET WHAT I MEAN HE AINT TRYING TO URBANIZE HER I THINK GOOD SONG BUT I LIKE PARTY AND BULLISH

  10. i@mveevee February 29, 2012

Yay Nneka sample !!! Go Rita, she is talented ! I like!

  11. aya February 29, 2012

oh i see they sampled Nneka – Heartbeat, check it out

  12. Nika February 29, 2012

    it was okay.

  13. OBIE February 29, 2012

I dont respect this at all. This is a drake song off his mixtape that has been out for about 2 years. She basically covers the song word for word. The beat is the same. Check the song out and drake version is better. its called i’m ready for you.

  14. Sleazy February 29, 2012

What the f*** is Tinie whatever Saying? His rapping is so annoyng ugh and I love the song minus him

  15. HeavyHeavy February 29, 2012

How is Jay-Z gonna let her do a Drake song thats been out for nearly 2 years – I hope this track was free!!!!!. Should could of at least changed some of the lyrics and made it more personal to her.

Don’t like it cause its soooo OLD

  16. J February 29, 2012

    I’m trying to like this chick…but just can’t!!! Something’s missing…

  17. nicoyuki February 29, 2012

Well if this a drakisha frame then that’s why I’m not really feel the hook. Other then that its okay. I’m really getting hyped to hare more music from her

  18. KAT DELUNA FAN February 29, 2012

    it’s cute

goats are so annoying, like get the f out here

  19. BAA February 29, 2012

This is a message to Rihanna’s career. #R.I.P Little Miss Sunshine. We have a New and Improved Princess of The Roc!

  20. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) February 29, 2012

It’s beyond lacklustre. Album filler at best, probably tracklist leftover tbh! 😳 I think Rita Ora is very talented, but her voice doesn’t suit the beat and there’s nothing about her delivery that makes her memorable. And I love Nneka’s ‘Heartbeat’, but the way they sampled it was sloppy. I hope the next singles are better because I think she’s promising actually

  21. xedos February 29, 2012

if Rihanna do this song it would just stuck in your head. this song once its finish you forget about it. wait your turn stuck in my head from the first time i heard it.

  22. xedos February 29, 2012

its a rihanna left over from Rated R era drake wrote it for rihanna but she did not use it on the album

  23. B. Hill February 29, 2012

    #Team Rita

    Go away Rihanna.

  24. Morgan February 29, 2012

Riri you better watch your spot because someone might take it. Girl……

  25. JP February 29, 2012

Jay-Z and his crew are doing a bad job trying to generate interest for this chick.

It seems she has talent but nothing about her appeals to me at the moment…

The music I’ve heard thus far is corny and her look is too typical.

  26. Bey Fan February 29, 2012

Blah… nothing special. Im still waitin Rita….

I really wish the Rihanna comparisons would stop…lawd

I guess now the “Navy” knows how Beyonce’s fans use to feel. Every time a chick comes out, she’s about to take someone’s spot. And when the new chicks fail to do anything moving, they’ll start comparing her to icons and legends…

I not a big Rihanna fan (starting to like her the more and more each day though), but that chick aint got nuttin to prove…well except that she can sound good singing live. But plenty of artist have made it and sold millions and cant sing live to save their lives (see Britney and Madonna) ….

Good luck Rita O….still waiting to be moved. Maybe I need a visual. She needs to a video or something.

  27. KAT DELUNA FAN February 29, 2012

Mtfs will talk all they want but the rita chick is going nowhere neither. All the new artists get compared to previous one.It happens all the time, people make me laugh saying stupid s*** like she “CANT ” do this or that.

Rita knows what she wants, she will get want she want.If Jay wants the same, she is going to be big #period

We heard the same thing about Katy perry vs gaga,we heard the same about Adele vs Amy etc……………When your time is up,your time is up.

l dont like neither of those girls compared but if the management/marketing is behind, there is nothing you can do against her.

  28. dave February 29, 2012

    I prefer drakes version

  29. flawda February 29, 2012

I love how everyone thinks they are a music business A and R and know more than the people pushing her. More than likely this song will blow up and she will go on to have a successful. Some of you fans need to just shut up either like or don’t like the music, stop acting like ya’ll know the business and what works.

  30. Grammy dammy sammy February 29, 2012

Even if she doesnt have a Gaga-like start, she can build up her fame. The diff between riri n the other girls that flopped under def jam (milian, amerie) is the machine behind them. When they dropped the others n focused on Ri, she blew up big time which was not until her 3rd lp. Rihanna was not an instant hit out the gate. Artists today arent patient or maybe its d public that lacks patience, 1single n thats it ur a flop. I like d way roc nation groom their artists. She’s been signed since 09/10. Same with Jcole, Melanie Fiona (i kno she’s on her 2nd lp lol)

Rita will be fine, she’s prolly still discovering her sound. Yall have too much expectation of her damn. I just know she’s gonna have her own “domino” too. Its d only she pulls an Adele n God knows that’s a rarity

  31. AmbeRussell February 29, 2012

    @Grammy dammy sammy
but gaga start was months after her 1st 2 singles were released. gaga was not big until jan of 09 n i saw her back in 08 during ms universe n her 1st week sales were like 17k, so gaga start was lackluster and slow and was a build up

  32. Pop Royalty (Rude Boy) February 29, 2012

    @GRAMMY :

Rihanna was hot since sec. 1 , PON de REPLAY ?!!! S.O.S ?!

    let’s not ……

    😉

but honestly , i don’t see IT for the chick above !! as simple as that !! this song is boring and make me want to kill a cat !

and what swag ?! M.I.A. got more swag in her pinky toe than this chick’s whole body !

she don’t have something special or characteristic. lost in translation !!! and that’s why ppl outside UK and US don’t see her …..

Rihanna is so so so much better …. face it !! Unique voice , sexier image , better songs , etc …. “don’t stop the music ” alone s*** on her whole career ” if she has any” so far …

but TGJ need to try to keep stanning for her .. trying to make her HAPPEN !!

  33. Chelle February 29, 2012

I Just heard this funny lil wayne song at http://bit.ly/otCOIh its crazy ….y’all should hear it

  34. Yessssssssssss February 29, 2012

    Rita is Fresh

  35. Remey February 29, 2012

It’s clear that Sam WANTS this girl to be a Rih replacement. She lack almost everything to make a star. While Rih may not have the vocal prowess as other singers, she has a voice that is unforgettable.

It’s an inevitable fail for this girl. She’s going to constantly be compared to Rihanna since she has exact same creative team. There’s no creativity with her. No niche. No hook. I’ll keep Rih any day over this plain Jane.

  36. WizKey February 29, 2012

This girl has a much better singing voice than dying cat Rihanna, so as far as I’m concerned she’s already better on the basis of that alone.

  37. Teacher February 29, 2012

Sam doesn’t want her to replace Queen Rih bcuz this site would go down the drain w/o her….the only hope he would have is w/ Queen Bey..but since she is so private and keeps to herself he wouldn’t have nebody worth posting about……well maybe he could post on Kat Deluna cuz Lord knows she’s on the tip of everybodys tongue…

  38. jarel February 29, 2012

ehhhhh it sounds like something I have heard before. They are trying to get chicks that fit in a specific box.

  39. nickalus Randle February 29, 2012

    its cute,

  40. commanderofthedancefloor February 29, 2012

personally i prefer this song over b******* & party but i have already been listening to drakes version for about 2 years. so nothing special, she needed to do the riri route like with saxon/red lipstick, change the beat a little and complete over haul of the lyrics.

  41. Dev February 29, 2012

The songs boring, and to be honest i don’t feel she sings better than Pixie Lott. If this is the extent of artist development they can keep it

  42. bj February 29, 2012

    wack.

  43. Jordan March 1, 2012

    I’m Ready For Ya

I was wondering who Drake would give this song to

  44. Grammy dammy sammy March 1, 2012

    @amberussel

    You’re right i guess

    @pop

Just having a hit single on hot 100 with a forgetable song is not what i meant by a huge start im talking about worldwide stardom. She dint have that till umbrella n pon de replay n sos dint do much for her album sales they were just there. By huge im talkin like Britney’s debut big single = big album sales

How can u say d world doesnt see her when she just released her 1st single days ago. Stop ur doin d most now. U may not see it for her, many pll thot ri would be a 1 hit wonder too. If Jay is determined to make her a star he’ll fo it. It’s all about that machine, the hype

  45. Saetana March 1, 2012

Another generic record for another generic pop tart, its okay and that is all.

  46. Chrueche March 2, 2012

So sick and Refreshing. And the writer of this post. Lack of vocal prowess?

The one thing Rita Ora is known for is her voice. Just look up any one of her

live performances on youtube. Some people are just deaf to a great song when it

presesnts itself. This will win over alot of people both worldwide and stateside.

  47. pooh March 4, 2012

    She sounds like a dude…real talk!!!!!!!!!!!… follow me @wayneiam90
