For today, adding to the 6 US #1s she already has under her belt, her new single ‘Part Of Me’ has topped the Billboard Hot 100,

Following her rendition of the track at the 54th Annual Grammys, the single marks yet another smash hit for the star, lifted from her upcoming LP ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection‘.
This, serving as the deluxe edition of 2010′s ‘Teenage Dream’ which spawned 5 #1 singles, which include ‘Last Friday Night’, and ‘California Girls‘, which both saw Perry match Michael Jackson’s record for having five singles from the same LP, ‘Bad‘, top the chart.
In other chart news, Nicki Minaj’s ‘Starships‘ debuts at #9 while Chris Brown‘s ‘Turn Up The Music’ storms the digital chart at #9.
Unfortunately for Madonna, ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ drops 29 places to #39 while Adele enjoys 3 songs in the top ten, making her the first female ever to have three numbers in the Hot 100′s top 10 concurrently as a lead artist.
Note : #1s from ‘Dream’s deluxe edition will not count towards Perry’s current record.

You know your headline is not accurate but I’m not surprised you put it up anyway. The note should be at the beginning of the story, not the end. Too bad for Perry. Under BB rules her revamped album mix with new singles cant be considered consecutive; she cant have 7 consecutive #1 BB hot 100 singles. Her streak has stopped. I’m not at all impressed by these digi #1′s. They’re too easy to come by when you appeal to 14 year old girls and college age gay men who have nothing better to do than to browse iTunes on their phone. Get back to me when Katy sells at least 2 million physical copies of an album in the U.S.
In the meantime, Billboard need to change the Hot 100 rules so that airplay becomes a more dominate factor in chart placing. Who the hell has even heard that Katy Perry song? I haven’t. It’s #1 because her silly little minions flocked to iTunes. The general public couldn’t even hum it if they had to.
