Brandy is SLAYING monica! She has really grown. I remember when the song was out I preferred Monica. But evident now that Brandy has surpassed her vocally!

I mean so many younger artists from chris brown to melania fiona to jazmine sullivan to jojo to jennifer hudson to rihanna *side eye* LOL to trey songz to john legend to even usher has cited brandy as a vocal influence and even non rnb artist like the red hot chilli peppers and pink have expressed love for brandys voice.. Her harmonies and the timing of her ad libs are UNMATCHED in the industry and I say unmatched in every sense of the word … I love monica as a great singer the way I love many great singers I just put brandy on another level

Brandy fans need to understand that only people that KNOW music know the greatness of Brandy’s voice. Regular folks don’t know how she’s just on another level. There must be a reason why the greatest singers admire her! Tonex, Stacey Barthe, nicknamed her the vocal bible. Esthero said if God could sing, she would sound like her. Tank called her the greatest R&b singer..period. Rihanna said her vocals are unmatched. Jill Scott, JHud, J.Sullivan, Dawn all are in love with the voice of Brandy. At some point, I hope the rest of the world opens their ears and finally hears. Brandy’s voice is sooo multi-dimensional and beautiful that you sometimes have to listen twice to understand it. She does things with her voice that makes you think your mind was playing games. She’s just that awesome!

No she’s no big belter but the things she can do with her voice is just crazy!! Actually to quote timbaland “its scary how versatile she is” .. I love monica too I actually liked her a lil more than brandy in the 90s but once brandy grew into that flawless rich tone it was a wrap!

@ Sharade True, Brandy has had a few label issues, but that came along after some very substantial success. Monica’s last era was successful, but her comeback album only went gold (let’s not over do it). Monica was never really equal to Bran on any level (except vocally – for some). I agree, Rico Love does seems to gravitate more towards Monica, but Timbaland and Darkchild worked with both ladies and always seemed to prefer Bran. They’ve continued to expand on their work with her. I personally think Rico is a bore and ‘Motivation’ was a fluke. I’m not taking anything away from what he’s accomplished, but him doing a Brandy track doesn’t excite me (I’m way more hyped about all the other producers on board). Anyway, I think both ladies have beautiful spirits and although I’m not into Monica it would be nice for them both to do well.

It was obvious even to baby blue that Brandy and Monica will be compared vocally on this song. I agree with most people who say brandy sounded better though Mo sounded good too. I will break it down for u on this song. First verse, Brandy realy put a strong foundation. She wraped it excellently with that pause giving me an early christmas present. Mo started verse 2 well bt then when she hit the high note, i felt no connection between her low and high. Another thing, i thought Mo’s vibrato was enhanced too little too much. In her highs, she sounded like she was singing from her nose wich made her sound strained. That piece she did at the end gave me life. I love them both. @ some Beyfan trying to undermine Brandy’s vocals, shame on you. Your favorite is not innovative with her voice at all. She is just plane and flat like the back of an oxen. Check ‘Slow Love’ by Bey and by Brandy and lets see if you wld still hv the same opinion. She lacks emotion and soul on ballads. She got that fierce attitude on her pop sound which is what i love her for, but overally she can’t be classed together with brandy when it comes to real r n b. The song slays! Both these chicks made this song historic and epic and no-one has been able to cover it and make it sound good over a decade later.
Both women have vocal talents , successful carers and have grown into beautiful untouched women. Hopefully they will continue to do so.

ppl are always gna compare the two and ppl willl always have their preferences .. Vocally I prefer brandy hands down I just think her voice is more versatile.. I mean every album from never say never to full moon to afrodisiac to human her vocals change and improve and she’s always doing somethin new with her voice.. it just is perfection to me. Now I like monica she just never hits that chord in me when I hear her sing and her tone isn’t something I can particularly listen to an entire album of .. Brandy’s voice is too low and raspy, plus she mumbles. Monica has a clearer voice, is about a thousand times more soulful, and can literally since Brandy off the stage.

I really feel that if we are true fans of these ladies, we ought to respect them. We spend so much time fighting with each other and comparing and contrasting that we forget that it is now 14 years later. These ladies have grown to be positive women with responsibile traits that speaks for themselves. They are now friends and share a bond now that we should respect for their name’s sake. We lose focus on the big picture and hinder these women from their own potential because we don’t support them like we should. Why fuss and go on bickering about who is better when these women really want to make real music? Their lives and well being depend on us buying the albums and supporting shows. How can they have any level of success if the foundation of their stability is weak and in constant battle. Let’s all grow up and be the support system that they need. You can’t get Platinum if we stay in the corner and don’t shine. I love both Monica and Brandy and I love that they are really trying to stay in the game.
