Chart Check: Madonna Set To Land 5th Consecutive #1

Published: Wednesday 28th Mar 2012 by Rashad

Queen of Pop Madonna is on course to remind heiresses that she is indeed still ruling the charts.  For, just one week after the debut of her Youtube (partially) banned number ‘Girls Gone Wild’, her faithful following have gone to task to put the Material Girl’s latest material atop Billboard charts.

Boasting her best first week number’s since 2005’s ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’, ‘MDNA’ marks Madge’s 5th consecutive #1 album and 8th overall (starting with 2000’s ‘Music’).

Find out how much the ‘Holiday’ hitmaker is expected to move:

Via Billboard:

300,000

Industry experts expect the figure to be closer to 350k.  Either way, the top selling diva is a shoo in for next week’s number one.  This week’s charts, however, sees little movement.  As ever, Adele‘s ’21’ is still dominating the top 5 – landing this week at number 2.  Canadian chanteuse Melanie Fiona‘s latest ‘The MF Life’ lands in the tally’s top 10 at #7 with 34k sold.

Get into all the numbers below (via Billboard):

1. Various, The Hunger Games soundtrack (175k)
2. Adele, 21  (130k)
3. Shins, Port Of Morrow (75k)
4. One Direction, Up All Night (55k)
5. Odd Future, The OF Tape Vol. 2 (40k)
6. Bruce Springsteen, Wrecking Ball
7. Melanie Fiona, The MF Life (34k)
8. Various, Now 41 (31k)
9. Whitney Houston, Whitney – The Greatest Hits (28k)
10. Esperanza Spalding, Radio Music Society  (25k)

  6. Anne March 28, 2012

That’s good at today’s standards. Way to go Madonna! The QOP is proving she can still hold her own.

  7. flawda March 28, 2012

Melanie Fiona is signed to Universal Republic, Roc Nation only sets up her touring and live shows. Her record label does marketing and what not. Get your facts right hater.

Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection will slay aswell

  9. DTG March 28, 2012

^ No it won’t. Nobody gives a s*** about Katy Perry albums. They just download her microwavable popcorn singles and call it a day.

    :::: Linda Perry voice ::::

“Who wants a f****** Katy Perry album?”

  10. dang March 28, 2012

    ^ This. Ditto.

  11. Tbozfan10 March 28, 2012

I’m a huge Madonna fan, but I think you guys called this WAAY to early. These industry execs almost always seem to get their predictions wrong. I hope it’s true but it’s far to early to start congratulating yet.

  12. RIHANNA NAVY March 28, 2012

I see nobody brough up Gaga. LOL
Smart Move, Gaga keeps the 2012 POP QUEEN CROWN>
Madonna’s new albums sucked hard .btw. no really it did. the only good song is Gang Bang (and the b**** doesnt even sing on that track!!!!)

  13. tony March 28, 2012

    RIP KING MJ

  14. ADC143 March 28, 2012

    @ RIHANNA NAVY

Don’t nobody give a s*** about Gaga, that’s why nobody brought her up. Clown. lol
Go crawl back under the toilet with the rest of the little bugs that might still be interested in that “2010” mutant freak show if you’re that damn pressed to discuss the creature.

  15. There is enough place for every artist – Stans stop hating others March 28, 2012

HARD CANDY sold 280k in its first week at the same period of year with the HIT 4 Minutes and massive promotion on the week of release.

MDNA has no hit singles in the US (in the other parts of the world radios are full with GMAYL and GGW) and did no tv promotion.

I think we can’t sing now “I F**ked Up”. Quite the opposite. Well done Madonna 🙂

  16. jPAT March 29, 2012

@there is enough……………..who really cared what the rest of it is
she performed at the SUPERBOWL and went on a lot of TALk SHOW so she DID do TV PROMO. Calm down.

  17. aishaaguilerakeys March 29, 2012

300 k the first week after 30 yrs in the industry? I don’t like the album as a whole, only a few songs, but wow. I like MF’s album, I think it’s better than the first one. I think Jay Z should be promoting her more instead of focusing all his attention on Rita.

  18. Miguel March 29, 2012

She’s become an icon, so her albums will go up to #1 no matter what half-assed crap she puts out.

She could record anything and still sell on name alone…

But can she hold it like Adele and gain massive public support from all sorts of demographics? Hardly.

  19. DUNK March 29, 2012

MDNA is a brilliantly produced album, there are some really great pieces of work on there she deserves to be NO.1 as it’s an album that sounds like nothing else out there bringing the undergrounfdto the masses and adding her own personal twist, for a women who is 53 to be thst intune with whats going on in the real world of dance music and still be a pioneer she deserves all the NO.1’s in the world oh and buy the way the album is NO.1 in 40 COUNTRIES!

  20. Miguel March 29, 2012

    @DUNK

Sounds like nothing else out there??? LMAO!!!

“Girl Gone Wild” = dated eurodance, could be anyone’s leftover, including her own (“Celebration”)

“Gimme All Your Luvin” = an updated version of Martin Solveig’s “Hello” sound that’s over 2 years old

and other tracks sound equally like dated and like it’s leftovers from other people’s work from the past 5 years.

  21. Army Of Queen Aaliyah March 29, 2012

Madonna is Number 1 in 40 countries.
    Yall need to —-> _/

  22. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) March 29, 2012

Great numbers. Superbowl definitely helped, because, even though I love her, there is nothing else about this album “campaign” that is even remotely noteworthy 😳

If she can sell 300k relying on just one massive performance, imagine how much she would sell if she actually bothered releasing good songs and promoting them for a week or two. 😉

( I’m so glad Melanie cracked the top 10 this week. The sales are low this time of the year, but a top 10 debut is a top 10 debut!! And she didn’t have much promo either…good job!)

  23. RihannaNavyUK March 29, 2012

Jay Z is not part of Melanie Fionas label Jay Z label oversees touring and lives shows same applies to Rihanna Rihanna is under Def Jam Roc nation doesnt have anything to do with their marketing the label does so this jay Z favoring Rihanna is nonsense melanies label Universal shld have done more its unfortunate coz that girl can sing and the album is good

  24. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! March 29, 2012

Number 9 in the hot 100 Taylor swifts amazing new song “eyes open” Which she wrote herself!

  25. Tbozfan10 March 29, 2012

Hey “Taylor swifts #1 fan.” that is completely irrelevant to this post and you didn’t even try to disguise it, you’re just overflowing this site with spam.

  26. mobwife March 29, 2012

Well good for her. she is Madonna afer all and does have a huge international following. Are these just the units moved in the states or is this the WW sells figure? Madonna + music industry/media machine + iconic status = success all the time!

  27. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! March 29, 2012

    @Tbozfan10
Umm how is it? This is a post that shows “The hunger games” to the number 1 album… Taylors song is from that very soundtrack..

“Overtflowing the site with spam? I very rarely make any comments on this site.

Which makes you wrong on both parts… Next!!

  28. mobwife March 29, 2012

    @aishaaguilerakeys

JayZ has no interest in promoting a woman he can’t s**! MF has no interest in Beyonce’s pet camel! She has actual talent. Camel is trying to replace Rihanna with Rita thus his heavy interest in promoting her!

  29. Amy in Chi-town March 29, 2012

    Long live the Queen

  30. LOL March 30, 2012

I think 300-350K is a respectable number, specially for someone who is on her 30 years in the biz. Beyonce did 300K+ with 4, Britney with 276K for Femme Fatale, etc – ladies in their 10+ years in the biz.

Caca is not counted, as it’s her 3rd (or technically 2nd album) & her sales are already declining (by 50% already, between 2 albums: The Fame +FM: 5-6M US, BTW: 2M US). So little cretins, let’s see after 30 years (let alone 10 years) if you’re mother is even gonna sell a thing.

  31. LOL March 30, 2012

    Comparative sales (1st 4 albums – US)

    a) Madonna:
    Madonna – 5M
    Like a Virgin – 10M
    True Blue – 7M
    Like a Prayer – 5M

    b) Beyonce:
    Dangerously In Love – 4.8M
    BDay – 3.3M
    I Am Sasha Fierce – 2.9M
    4 – 1.2M

    c) Britney:
    Baby One More Time: 12M
    Oops: 10M
    Britney: 5M
    In the Zone: 3M

    d) Caca:
    Fame + Fame Monster: 6M
    BTW: 2M

Caca wins on the biggest decline in sales, from 1st album! 😛 Considering she has like what, 25M twitter followers? What happened to the 23M? Downloaded BTW illegally? People are loosing interest on her gimmicks, and fast!

So shut the f**ck up little cretins. By the way, Caca’s album was also named: Most Pretentious of All Time 😛
