With careers spanning almost two decades, Beyonce and Jay Z have overseen the careers of what are now- accomplished pop staples.
From helping Solange launch her debut LP back in 2002, to signing and ultimately ‘creating‘ Rihanna as we know her today, Jay Z along with Ms.’Countdown‘ know a thing or two about spotting and supporting fresh new acts.
Now, ‘Party‘ star Rita Ora has dished on the pair with GQ, ahead of the release of her debut album.
Her comments below..
On the couple, the one time sales clerk revealed:
Jay Z’s a great mentor, and so is Beyonce.
There’s not a lot of people on Roc Nation so the few that are genuinely get time spent on their project.
It’s like a family, well especially now with Blue Ivy – although she just chills: eats, sleeps, wakes up, eats, sleeps. JayZ taught me a lot about patience as an artist. I was itching. When I was 18 I thought it was all going to happen so quickly – I just thought next week I’d be on Oprah!
On joining Coldplay’s 2012 tour, she confessed:
I’m so glad that’s out now because I’ve known for a minute and I’ve wanted to tell everyone! They heard my tracks and then “Hot Right Now” went to number one. I’ve met them a few times over the last few years so they asked me to be on the tour. I’m over the moon – they play huge arenas and I can’t wait to finally do it!

As much as I love Riri’s songs and I find Rita’s ok, they produce poor quality music for artists who have been groomed by two of those considered among the best. Only artist I’d be proud of now as a mentor when it comes to quality is J. Cole.

Damn…Rihanna must have really hurt Jay-Z’s feelings. It’s pretty obvious that Jay-Z is flexing his muscle and trying to mess with Rihanna’s head and using the same control tactics that a lot of high powered men in this industry use. Pretty sad. This is the same type of thing that went down with Mariah and Jennifer Lopez. back in the day with Sony and Tommy Mattola. Mariah later had a breakdown but came back strong.
They have the same look, similar styles, similar names (Ri…), similar looks, Rihanna is also friends with Coldplay and performed with them on the latest Grammy Awards etc, etc. Even though Jay pretty much discovered Rihanna, I don’t think is the right way to go. I hope the ultimate plan is to have them both shine at the same time but when it comes to two women in the industry competing, things will get ugly.
I’m anxious to see someone interview Rihanna and ask what her thoughts are on Rita. as I’m sure she’s watching. Either way, I don’t think Rita will appeal to as many fans as Rihanna has….just an opinion from a music fan’s perspective. Peace….
