Solange Rolls Out ‘Current Record Label’ Status, More In ‘Evening Standard’

Published: Saturday 17th Mar 2012 by Rashad

Say what you will, but it takes some kinda fierce fashionista to make a bowling alley look like a runway.  Such feat is one ‘I Decided’ diva Solange Knowles can be seen doing with ease in the latest edition of London’s ‘Evening Standard’.

Donning designer duds, the youngest of the Knowles clan was certainly on the ball as she imparted a candid interview for the mag outlining her current label situation, her thoughts on the media circus surrounding niece Blue Ivy‘s arrival, and what fans can expect for her next album.

Slowly but surely bringing the broth to a boil on the promo of the ‘Solangel and the Hadley St. Dreams’ followup, see more shots from set and find out what else Miss Solo shared below:

Via ES Magazine:

On niece Blue Ivy’s birth:

‘That was really, really insane,’ she says of the press coverage of her niece Blue Ivy’s birth. ‘Such an invasion of privacy.’

On giving Beyonce parenting advice:

‘No, I really feel like because I had my son so young, I didn’t want everyone’s help. I think people felt entitled to give advice, so I’m always very sensitive to mums and letting them feel their way out. But there have been times when she’ll ask, “Did Julez do this? Did this ever happen with Julez?” And I’ll gladly give her advice.’

On record label situation:

‘I don’t think there’s a need if you are able to fund it yourself and have a strong sense of development as an artist. It means you aren’t dependent on some A&R dude to position you with writers or producers or figure out your next direction.  Major labels act as banks in terms of how they produce and release your album. No major label is really good or bad, they just 100 per cent operate as a business, which makes sense… no hard feelings.’

Although i like Solonge music wise can’t stand these interviews where she try’s to make herself sound interesting, have all these accolades and fabricated childhood. She’s better off releasing music, wearing clothes and being a mother the way Kelis does, cause if you don’t have anything interesting, factual or new to say it’s better to say nothing…. it makes people lose interest

I dont understand this deep-rooted dislike for Solange’s interviews, we all know that Solange is a tough b****, plain and simple, and thats what I like about her! I think she is always honest, and i don’t think she is hyping her self up…the media is, and she understands that and takes it at face value. Its like when she first came out ppl had so much negativity towards her and it was cool to knock her, but now that she is establishing herself and has a lot more support from the industry…some people cant take it and figure her success and deep valued self-confidence is cockiness. Like is she supposed to be meek and devalue herself because thats how you see fit?

I know she’s about her music but she should really consider modeling, she really is lovely and I love the unique spreads they put her in. She made bowling look elegant without it being contrived.

Come on Solange, we need some new music.
She should do UK music festivals, think it could do good for her.

    @KingPhoenix

I don’t think that’s it. People shade Solange because she’s a lightweight. Imagine if Hillary Duff’s sister, Haley kept getting press simply because she dresses well from time to time and is Hillary’s sister. It would get old, quick. Solange’s music isn’t making any noise . . . at all. She’s not making indy sleeper hit albums. Commerically, her music is irrelevant. I agree with those making the Kelis comparisons. Solange is like a weaker Kelis because Kelis made an impact without the benefit of nepotism.

She is so transparent like her sister..I would rather watch paint dry:..

stunning! she just looks amazing here! this is her best photo shoot with short hair! not really a fan of her music, even though i love some of her songs(especially crush from her first cd and all 3 official singles from her last album) so can’t wait for when she releases new material! oh and lastly,u can see in these pics that she’s related to Beyonslay 😉 something u don’t see often :/

    @ Mari

Hey nice to see you again…(side-eye). Um have you not heard Sol-Angel and the Hadely St. Dreams in its entirety? Have you not heard the genius of ” Left-Side Drive”, or how about the fact the Solange has helped penned some of Bey’s biggest hits i.e. Get Me Bodied. Solange musicality is undeniable. She is one of the most underrated artist of our generation and i hope that now she is more in the spotlight on her own account that her music will get the shine that it deserves…Don’t sleep o n my girl Mari, you should really give her music a chance and not judge her based on everybody else’s shallow and unwarranted opinions. And the only reason Kelis made an impact is because she sold out with the hyper-sexualized “Milkshake” trying to be a weaker Beyonce, and then got another little hit with “Bossy” and now where she at? and i wont even touch the Haley Duff comparison because that s*** is completely irrelevant.

I agree she should stick to modeling. Her talent on that set is undeniable.
