Monica made it very clear she stopped promotion on new life because they did this song last minute. Monica never really initiated doing a song. Ms Brandy did live on a you tube and even begged Monica to call her. Brandys time came and went just as fast . I too was a die hard brandy fan. But let’s be real, she is a fake. And she lied to the public once I feel she will do it again ,brandy did NOT headline her own tour but yes she was once a huge star. No question about that .monica has always been and will always be more relevant because she’s real and tangeable to people. And she is a vocal powerhouse. Monica’s single until it gone is STILL charting even though this song is out and let’s be clear I am a brandy Stan. However the truth can’t be denied. The only reason monica did this song is because AFTER the label Monica’s been on for 15 yrs signed brandy last year. They asked Monica to do it. It’s obvious watch the interviews. Brandy was dropped with 2 failed albums so let’s not pretend that ALL artist don’t go thru down moments . I can appreciate that these two women came together . Makes me feel that it’s now time to stop all the petty comparisons ourselves … They ate 2 different women with 2 different voice and two different backgrounds. Brandy does NOT have two flop albums, she only has one. All but one of her albums are RIAA certified and have grammy nominations. And that’s Human. If Afrodisiac is a flop, so is Still Standing. Yes, a gold album in 04 when R&B was thriving may seem like a flop, but it carries similar success to Monica’s most successful record to DATE, so don’t even try that one.
Second of all, Brandy was NOT dropped from two labels. She was released from Epic, but she left her original home label Atlantic of her own FREE WILL. That is because everyone that was basically #TeamBrandy on her label was gone, and she felt that they didn’t support her or know how to handle her anymore as she once was. So let’s stop acting like she was dropped from two labels.
Let’s also STOP acting like Monica being on the same label for years is worth bragging about. Surely, RCA has NOT always seen it for Monica as she is not a priority artist there. Let’s also NOT forget how her label intentionally undershipped Still Standing because they didn’t expect it to sell much, so Monica was in pretty bad shape having to prove that she was still useful to keep on the label.
Truth be told, hardly anyone (aside from monica stans) cared about New Life. Her era started off very rough. Anything To Find You and Until It’s Gone flopped, and the feedback on those singles were lackluster. Her album was supposed to come out MONTHS ago, and has been pushed back over several times. Also, the label practically FORCED Monica to re-do her album as opposed to releasing yet another predictable, lackluster, disposable album.
You all and Monica included, better THANK Brandy so much for saving her flop album. There’s no way that Monica could’ve booked a performance at the Pre-Grammy Gala, Tonight Show on Jay Leno, People Magazine articles, etc… on her own. Brandy is helping her book gigs that she could NOT. And that’s because Brandy has and always will be the bigger household name. Even in her most unsucessful album era, Bran was booking gigs monica couldn’t. So let’s cut the crap, and spare me with the b******* and try to keep things positive about this. I’m here for the video, and the music, the vocals, etc…and that’s all that matters!
Monica has done Vogue, InStyle and People in the past. She has performed on a late night talk show for every album….so how why exactly did she NEED Brandy to book those gigs? BOTH ladies needed eachother seeing as though Brandy’s last top 10 hit was 10 years ago and the label did not even bother promoting Monica’s past two singles. However, Monica did have a #1 RB song (7weeks)in 2010 and #2 (6 weeks) as well. But let’s compare the last offering from the two singers. You have Brandy’s first single from “Human,” which she promoted on SEVERAL day time outlets including Tyra and Good Morning America, that had similar success to Monica’s first single from this album, where she did no promo at all. There was not one single televised appearance for the single. So again, tell me how Brandy saved Monica? If anything they saved eachother, because the cheap ass record label was not putting major money into any of their projects. They simply saw an opportunity to cross-promote and save money!
