Ashanti Delays ‘Braveheart’ Album

Published: Thursday 5th Apr 2012 by David

Ashanti’s new LP ‘Braveheart’ is off to a less than impressive start.

Yes, despite whipping up quite the buzz in its aid, the success- or lack of- of its lead single ‘The Woman You Love‘ was enough to worry even her staunchest of fans.

So, just when things looked like they couldn’t get any worse- they did.

The LP has been pushed back to June, two months after initially scheduled.

More below…

With the new launch date of June 19th, it will arrive two months after its original April 17th release date. Perhaps changed in response to ‘Woman’s failure to chart on the Hot 100, it marks yet another blow for the ‘Unfoolish‘ act who is now working independent of a major label.

However, while this news may irk some, it is worth weighing up what it means. For, with 8 weeks until it comes out, Team Douglas now have ample time to push a far more promising single to radio and set up a series of promo gigs in its support.

Take Beyonce‘s ‘4‘ for example.

Despite facing criticism for starting  its physical campaign two weeks before its release, Knowles was still able to nab the #1 spot on the Billboard 200, helped by the buzz garnered by ‘Best Thing I Never Had’, released June 1st.

If Ashanti is able to whip up a ‘crossover’ release (or re-work an existing cut for the same purpose) and launch it by May’s end, ‘Brave’ may find itself in safe hands.

But what do you think?

Do you agree with the delay?

Side Note:

With the LP due out in summer, who else thinks a ‘brighter’ cover would help?

Ashanti just don’t have a chance anymore. The music era has change, and left her behind. One day you’re hot and the next day your out is how the music industry works.

  2. Dante April 5, 2012

Yess im so happy she did that very Smart Move she needs to get.a better single out there to push the album “The woman u love” was not strong enuff Go back to the drawing board and make us a hit that will stick

  3. YOOSONDALOOSE April 5, 2012

Over the moon that Ashanti has delayed this project.
    The single was terrible.

I’m sorry but ‘The Woman You Love’ was a rubbish song, the video was TERRIBLE and looked cheap, the whole blue lipstick and weird head thing was horrific, the whole project has been a MESS.

She needs to revamp the tracklist, change the whole image of the album and make a great, new, funky beat.

She needs to stop slacking and get a amazing single out. The single needs to have a good FAST beat, a pop yet R&B feel and she needs a good video!

Come on Ashanti, and then maybe she can do well again.

  4. Mike April 5, 2012

Yea the video was a mess I have to agree! The song is getting some radio spins

The video was on 106andpark but nobody really voted for it to stay on
The countdown.. So yea Ashanti you really need to go back to the
    Drawing board.

And please change that album cover to I can’t get over the blue lip stick ugh..

  5. christinascomingsoon April 5, 2012

The single was fire but not worthy of a comeback single, especially when youre independent.

I don’t think going back to the drawing board is the answer but moreso releasing another song and see how that performs and depending on how that performs qik determine if u need to go back to the drawing board.

And change that hideous ass album cover.

  6. RiRi’s 1st Born April 5, 2012

Yup, the music landscape has changed & left her behind! Dont know what 2 tell her anymore! She needs 2 revise everything!!!!

  7. AMAZINJALEN April 5, 2012

I promise u I was thinking about this situation, this morning. It seems like this would be wayyyyyyyyyyy better then putting the album out now.

  8. Girrrl April 5, 2012

Hahaha y’all are recommending someone follow the 4 campaign? ! That album flopped so bad that Beyonce joined twitter. The Beyonce worship is getting ridiculous. Ashanti better drop a hot single quick and drop the album soon afterwards.

Thats it. I am not buying this CD. i supported TWYL and i was gonna buy the cd, but i am not here for artists who push their albums back in order to gain momentum.

  10. xoxo April 5, 2012

    @girrrl
although i am not a bey stan, a #1 platinum album is far from a flop.

  11. kimberly April 5, 2012

I like Ashanti but as an independent artist she seems to completely ignore what her fans say. If the fans don’t like that braid hanging out on the album cover change it. If the fans do not like your first buzz single change it. She should not have made a video for the song and then do no promotion. That is not the way to go. Maybe she should get a notebook out and take some notes from Beyonce’s 4 promo spots on how to promote an R&B album in a euro-influenced no-talent music world. The main thing she is missing is tight hooks on up-tempo songs…that is what made her popular in the 2001-2003. These slow ballads she is singing are better done by artists that can really sing. A little less screaming and a tight hook on an uptempo song is the way she should go.

  17. Mahow April 5, 2012

Ashanti has never gave a release date on her Album so quit believing the rumors ………….She said late spring so june s right

  18. BKMEKA April 5, 2012

her five mins are up….hang it up flatscreen….she had her time !!!

  19. blairdevereaux April 5, 2012

i designed an alternate cover thats been shopped around for consideration….dont know how to attach it on here though : (

    @blairdevereaux

I saw the 11 tracks slated to be included on the album and unless ALL 11 are bangers, she needs to be recording more material and should consider adding some more cuts to the album. I’m gunning for her, however, most artists need the major label budget and she is not the exception. She needs to have BIG songs.. People like her, but she has to come with it. No time to be playing it cheap. The Woman You Love was not strong enough to be a comeback singer for a grammy award winning artist.. Period/

  21. JSALEEM April 5, 2012

NOT SUCH A GOOD IDEA ON HER TEAM’S PART…BRANDY’S ALBUM IS COMING OUT THAT MONTH AND I’M SURE SHE’S GONNA SLAY HER IN RECORD SALES ON THE 1ST WEEK!!!

  22. lola April 5, 2012

The first single is so damn stupid. She has such a weak voice, she can barely hit the hotes and it’s sad that she can barely hit the notes loudly. LMFAO at that cheapass hot mess of a music video. It was weird and the storyline was predictable Ashanti…. or should I say Ashitty! She looks like a damn fool with that blue lipstick on and that braid around her forehead. I can’t express how EXCITED I AM THAT SHE IS A FLOP! Hardly anyone cares for her. I never did like her. She was always annoying, stank, and fake, not to mention untalented. People are saying that she needs to re-record, but nothing can save her sorry ass career now!

  23. DatDude April 5, 2012

Some of u people sound Foolish… if you think her first single was weak then your obviously on that fuckery Pop bandwagon along with the rest of the monkeys… As far as vocals nobody dgaf about that anymore can u tell by all the fuckery music that’s out now?? But I think this is a good move for her with no major promo and big stage performance she doing pretty good she got a buzz now peoples knows she back… all she have to do is keep releasing music and she be back on top.. just like my BOI Chris brown, Trey Songz and that goat Rihanna they all struggle at one point to get to where their at now… so once again I cnt wait for her next single hopefully its better which im sure it will be. Im rooting for this poor underrated artist.. p.s the sideburns and she cnt sing jokes are play out.. come up with some new sh*t please… thanks

  24. Nopes, April 6, 2012

WHEN HER ALBUMS DROPS,ITS GONNA DROP (OFF THE CHARTS)

  25. GREG April 6, 2012

Ashanti the artwork for this is a disaster….revamp it before you release

  26. christine April 6, 2012

    @ DATDUDE

You took the words right out of my mouth.! So without repeating what has already been stated I will say this. Her next single is gonna be a banger.
All she neeeds is one solid banger which I’m sure she has in her arsenal. TWYL was a song to get a buzz going and reintroduce herself to the industry. After she drops her next banger she should follow it up by releasing her song with R Kelly or Keisha Cole because Ashanti said that she was trying to get it released on both of their albums. Haters can hate all day but insiders who have heard the album at listening sessions have all said the same thing. TWYL was just the tip of the iceberg. It is time for some real rnb/ hip hop. That pop crap is DONE!
