Iggy Azalea Tells Eve: “I Don’t Care If You Think It’s Real Or Not”

Published: Friday 13th Apr 2012 by David

Iggy Azalea has spoken.

Earlier this week, Rap veteran Eve spoke out against Azalea’s music- admitting she found it to be ‘unconvincing’, adding further insult by praising her new found nemesis Azealia Banks.

Now, Iggy has responded by way of XXL Magazine.

Her comments below…

I like Eve.

Everybody is different, everybody hasn’t lived out of the box and for you to even know if it’s real, you have to kind of be an out-the-box person or somebody who likes something there not suppose to [like].

A girl like her that raps is expected, so, how could you understand something so different?”

I’m not mad at [Eve] for not understanding it. How could you if you’ve never been ostracized or loved something you weren’t suppose to love?

Everything you’ve loved you’re allowed to love, so, how could you understand me?

Thus, how could you know if it’s real? I used to be like, it is real, let me prove it to you. Now, I don’t care if you think it’s real or not because it’s what I love, it’s my life.

I don’t put my story all out there for you because I don’t need to put my story out there and prove it. I don’t give a f*ck if you think I am or not cause that girl in the crowd understand it and that’s who it’s for, if you don’t then it’s not for you.

Exactly.

It’s interesting so many veterans (especially in Hip Hop) feel they have the right to determine what’s ‘real’ and what’s not.

Sure, everyone has the right to their own opinion and Eve was just expressing hers, but this habit of labeling anything lighthearted or fashion forward as ‘fake’ is getting a little tired, and makes veterans who are unfairly critical of new acts seem dated.

But what do you think?

Do you agree with her?

At some point these “veterans” are going to learn that anytime they throw shade at a new artist (even if they feel they’re just giving an honest opinion), they are only making their star brighter. I don’t think we have to revisit the Kim/Nicki thing, but that’s the best example. Christina Aguilera dogging Lady Gaga in 2008 is another example. If you’re as good as you say you are, then give love and respect to others trying to make a name for themselves in the business. If you’re truly talented, there’s always room for you.

    f*** this h**.

azealia banks is the next missy eliott and this anorexic chiwawa-lookin’ b**** will deal. 😆

  3. Ramel April 13, 2012

Nah f*** that b**** Iggy. Ol worthless bith dont know what team se fuxkin wit!! Eve would DESTROY that pale h** and whipe the gumdrop off her chin. Ol Ms Gingerwoman lookin ass b****.

  4. Ramel April 13, 2012

  5. kimberly April 13, 2012

I will never understand iggy. Ugly b**** sit down. If eve is not feeling her then so what. I am not feeling this chick either. eve was being very honest and she did not swallow any words. we all want artist to be honest in their interviews but when they do we get mad.
DMX is not feeling Drake and have said he doesn’t like anything about Drake. I feel the same way too. Why didn’t Drake reply to DMX? It is his opinion and you cannot please everybody but iggy replying to that one statement Eve said just shows that she cares. oops.

  6. KAT DELUNA FAN April 13, 2012

    I didnt understand s*** b**** 😆 ➡

  7. Nahjee April 13, 2012

She gave us that long white people talk Cus I didn’t get what she was trying to say it started to get confusing to me.

But eve can kill her in a battle rap so iggy don’t push it remember your just a wigger
    To eve ok

  8. Those That Cannot Do, Stan April 13, 2012

WOW that just made me love her 3x as much. Homegirl isn’t the typical simple minded hoodlum, she’s got a brain and a great way of expressing herself. Love it. Rap has got to change, shrugs, everyother genre in the industry has. For it to maintain it must evolve and for those who don’t resonate with the typical gangster s*** it’s good to see a new tide turning.

Eve is definitely allowed to have her opinion, but Iggy’s right. She doesn’t hav to get it, she has her own audience and Iggy is carving out a new space with people who understand what she’s saying.

  9. Dope or nope April 13, 2012

WTF…….. I couldn’t understand a damn thing about that whole statement she just made lol

    WHITE PEOPLE! (Chris rock voice)

Iggy I was feeling you until you started talking slick out your mouth eve was just being honest.. Not a good look iggy

You don’t wanna end up like that ________ girl who raps about Gucci Gucci

Ya notice I didn’t say her name that’s how irrelevant she is hahaha

Yea but iggy you get a big nope you don’t do that

  10. RoyalKev April 13, 2012

I like Iggy so far. I don’t think there’s anything for her to prove to anyone, her music will speak for itself. It’s a shame these established artists can’t be more positive or encouraging. These “keeping it real” types often just want to find something to hate on when someone has a little buzz going on! Eve could have been speaking objectively , but give this woman more than 5 minutes to strut her stuff! Why be that girl who puts someone down because they make you feel insecure (just to have to eat your words later).

im tired of these b****** who havent been on the scene in years coming back. we need some NEW FEMALE RAPPERS. all of the 90s/00s female rappers have been past their peak. let iggy do her.

  12. D.Strock April 13, 2012

I side more with Eve on this. No, I’m not saying every rapper has to be some dope-pushing hoodrat, but if you haven’t had experience on the street how are you gonna rap about anything genuine? “Murda Bizness” had a nice beat, but I just find Iggy’s verses uninspired and shallow. And her voice just kinda annoys me, but that’s neither here nor there.

  13. KAT DELUNA FAN April 13, 2012

SMH forget this story ..Nicki is acting a fool on twitter right now 😆 😆 😆

  14. op April 13, 2012

i Co-Sign her,she have to talk for her right, some of the vets are acting up like they want to pick and choose who to come in the game, who gave them that right, leave the young acts let them do them and old act do them,Eve have a single coming out so she is obviously shading to get that hype up,this chick here didn’t dis eve are anything, but because she is in the game longer she feel she have a right to chad the young act.

  15. flawda April 13, 2012

Iggy is just like Nicki Minaj, another f****** pornstar rapping. Nothing but eye candy and no damn skill or substance. but gimmicks only last so long before people outgrow that stuff.

  16. op April 13, 2012

FLAWDA were is the proof that Nicki Minaj is a p*** star there isn’t any right, and at least we have proof that kim is is a nasty c-cksucker and god alot now what opther sh-t she bin doing and Eve is a certified wh-re working that pole she took it to another level now,she is s-cking off old rich white men, seems like the money is slowing up getting old are something, she running back to the game shading the young bloods f-ck that ho,there are alot more of them i have the proof i can go on,anways both of these b**** is good at Reciting lyrics 98% of that sh-t they can’t wright to save there dmn lives…some of them b**** is so overated because them are in the game longer taking up space and an’t do sh-t..your ignorant @ss needs to do your research before you run on here trying to shad someone you don’t like when the proof is stack up against your fav get da fvck out of here.

  17. mobwife April 13, 2012

    “..never been ostracized….”

Oh boo hoo B*TCH cry me a river and then drown!

Eve is a vet you just look and sound like you need one (a VET that is)…LOL 🙂

    Your garbage, nuff said!

  18. Mely B April 13, 2012

I don’t think Eve’s comments are on the level of the Kim/Nicki feud though. Eve was asked about the “Azealeahs” because they’re both on the forefront trying to build their reps & fan bases. I do however agree with Eve’s comments about this girl’s “authenticity” in comparison to Banks’.

Younger people have to realize the struggles that vets like Eve, Kim, Salt n Pepa, Missy, etc went through to prove themselves to rap fans & carve out their careers while newbies who have a certain “look” are co-signed without being battle tested the way they were.

I also agree with others that her reply is much ado about nothing – I’ve read it 3x & it still makes no sense

  19. TheFame April 13, 2012

I agree with what iggy said its ashame ppl can’t just let somone make music without having to insult them because there not what YOU like. I mean eve of all ppl should know how that feels when ur a new artist. And I eve heard iggy praise her in one or her raps so why hate? And why is rap music the only taboo music genre left for white ppl or any other color to enter for that matter?

  20. Matthew April 13, 2012

All of you sound so f****** ignorant!
    SHE’S WHITE WELL F****** DONE.
    YOU CAN SEE.
Who gives a f*** what color she is.
first it was women in rap was wrong.
So how hard do you think she has it with c**** like you
automatically hating on her because she’s a white female.
Yeah, eve has earnt a reputation and is a vet.,
But that doesn’t mean she can write people off.
And Azealia aint’ all that. 212 is one of the best songs of the yea
But that doesn’t mean you have to Iggy if you like her.
You all just sound like a bunch of f****** hermits

  21. Stan4QueenRiRi April 13, 2012

@Flawda I need reciepts for these lies & speculations you’re spreading about Nicki being a p*** star. Nicki doesn’t even get asked about her personal let alone reputable sources confirming she’s loose. Let’s not go talking about who’s a h** when Eve was sliding down the pole bald head and all. Nicki isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

  22. Nik Nak April 13, 2012

This STUPID H** IS JUST USING THIS AS AN EXCUSE TO GET HER NAME OUT.. HER RAPS ARE WACK AND SHE WAS ONLY SIGNED COS SHE’S WHITE.

Eve, is on another level….little girl take a hundred sits…..

  23. QueenBey4vida April 13, 2012

Let’s keep it 100, these rap b****** that were once hot are washed and forgotton. All of the sudden when they see a b**** winning & taking the spot they once had is when they decide to speak up. In the words of Nicki Minaj “if I wasn’t winning you wouldn’t care” it’s insecurity amongs themselves. If there is one female rapper that embraces all newcomers it’s Missy, she & Timbaland even said they are waiting on a Nicki collab. We always side with the b**** who’s been here longer, that doesn’t always mean they’re right.

  24. Britney Stan April 13, 2012

This made me want to finally listen to her music. Even tho Eve was just being honest, no one said anything about that Garbage ass verse on Gwen’s rich girl. I said it. Na who gon pop me??? like someone stated before, I’m tired of these washed up b****** poppin off. Let a b**** shine! Damn! #TeamIzzy!!! Not!!! but I am gonna buy her single. and I might even play it!

  25. shion April 13, 2012

Seriously, im getting tired of these “woe is me” comments and these “dnt kno cause they dont think outside the box” sob stories these young artist keep making to excuse the crappy music they put out and actually BELIEVING there own hype lol like some of us aren’t not smart enough to understand what they are doing lmbo…smh..plz..give me a break. Actually come out with some real music then come tlk to me

  26. flawda April 13, 2012

    @ OP

As a hiphop fan who grew up on Nas, Jay,Pac,etc. Atleast i can say Lil Kim had skills, which is more than i can say about Gimmicky Minaj. Behind all Lil Kim’s sexual image the chick could actually rap and spit coherent thoughts, she has held her own with Big, Jay, and her male counterparts. WTF does Nicki Minaj do other than use shock tactics, appeal to hood rats and homosexual males?

Ever can spit too, she is a mc at core. She stood toe to toe with DMX, Jadakiss, and her male counterparts and didn’t have to rely on fuckery like Nicki Minaj does.

Kim nor Eve never jocked Lady Gaga for her image and never sold out like Nicki did. They never seek white America’s acceptance like Nicki does.

  27. fsdg April 13, 2012

Veterans are the ones who actually made Hip Hop music. So, yeah, they get to say a lot in this situation.

  28. flawda April 13, 2012

    @Stanqueenriri

I don’t mean it literally i mean using their sexuality specifically to sell based on the fact they have no tangible skill. Would anyone really even give two shits about Nicki or Iggy, if they weren’t wearing bikini and spandex 99 percent of the time. They are basically eye candy for n***** and a image for low self esteem b******.

  29. Preston April 13, 2012

I feel like a lot of the stories posted here are written by a highschool student.

  30. Justathought (Azealia Banks is here…) April 13, 2012

Umm…got a little confused but I still got the point of what she was saying. It is what it is and I happen to be one of those people that don’t really get her, BUT I love her style. Eve was being mean she was just giving her honest opinion.

  31. QueenBey4vida April 13, 2012

@FLAWDA Nicki can legit rap. People sleep on her & say she’s not a good rapper now that she’s mainstream. Believe me, behind all the colorful costumes & crazy wigs Nicki can rap. Don’t be fooled by songs she puts out on the radio, anyone who followed Nicki since her mixtape days will tell you that she is a great rapper. The songs on her albums where she is actually spitting fire & talking about real s*** are the songs that radio’s don’t like to play. Trust me I have plenty of reciepts to show you.

  32. grammy dammy sammy April 13, 2012

ugh hat response was too long-winded for someone who doesnt care. Eve didnt diss her so this was not needed. she even complimented her look so Sam/ TGJ staff u need to look up that interview again. i just hope this wont get messy like the nicki/kim fiasco. Iggy needs to know the magnifying glass is on her waiting for her to crack. she already tipped the boat with slavemaster-gate. Rappers should pcik their battles more wisely. this was nothing to grant expend an interview over

  33. Anne April 13, 2012

I agree with both ladies. If Eve finds her unconvincing it’s her opinion and choice to express it. On the other hand, Iggy (whoever that is) doesn’t have to care or prove anything to anyone.

  34. B0SS April 13, 2012

Her statement was confusing because the b**** was talkin’ in circles. LOL yeah… that’s what she better do, even though deep down inside I was hoping she dissed EVE so she could get ripped a new one through that rubber ass on her back!

  35. Black Madonna April 13, 2012

SLAYED.. YESS IGGY!! LUV THIS GIRL SO MUCH

  36. Bad Bytch April 13, 2012

Funny how Eve said she didnt like Iggy in that interview even though they didnt even ask her about Iggy.. They asked Eve what new female rappers out now that she’s feelin..and she went on to talk about who she DIDNT like.. I was wft? Eve can now take a seat in my book. Shout out to Iggy for her response

  37. kweli69j April 13, 2012

this girl is awful..she needs to go away..

  38. swagg April 13, 2012

i really dont think its anything to see here…its just the media and blogs like to makes certain things bigger than they are ..I honestly didnt find anything wrong with either statement there isn’t always a right and wrong just difference of opinion sometimes ppl…eve was stating her opinion of her she didnt say she is wack or swagga jackin ..and as a rapper iggy has to respond to that and she did so without trying to be tough or being a punk but just telling it like it is she making music to get new fans if u dont like then somebody will ..its that simple

  39. AMAZINJALEN April 13, 2012

I don’t get why these “Veterans” are hating on the new school. Shouldn’t they be positive? The b**** Eve shoulda stated who she liked & kept it cute. Nobody ain’t checking for Eve. Musically, socially, or theatrically. I don’t member s*** Eve did lately besides “My Chick Bad Rmx” & that show on ABC that was named after her. I f***** with Eve but I don’t f*** with hating ass b******. She’s a “vet” so why do u feel the need to speak on someone else’s genuineness? Eve washed up ass don’t have No say-so what goes on in the industry. Until I hear a song, or see something buzz-worthy about her, her opinion means ZIP, NADA, ZERO. What Eve need to do is quit f****** Swizz Beatz just to get some songs. Expand yo horizons b****. Cuz what album was “Tambourine” on? Did anybody buy it? How many did it sell? Oh ok. Point proven. ANYWHO! Can’t wait for Iggy’s debut “The New Classic!” I’m sure it’ll slay Adam & Eve’s LIFE. 🙂

  40. op April 13, 2012

QUEENBEY4VIDA you don’t have to explain anything to FLAWDA,it is a certified hater, typical hater talking about who they grow up with,to try and justify there hate.

  41. TresChic April 13, 2012

Maybe because the Hip Hop genre of music isn’t something that you can just jump on, it originates from black history. I think questioning new artists who jump on the genre because it sells rather than having any real relation to it is justified.

  42. LAX April 13, 2012

EVE IS A FLOP……..SHE NEED TO LET IZZY BE HERE AND SHUT UR FLOP ASS UP

  43. deveal2014 April 13, 2012

F*** this white h** Eve > whateva this chick’s name is. She is not hip hop and I personally am sick of the fraud. And all these sellout kids of this younger generation don’t see it. Yall don’t support your own but so quick to kiss this new h*** ass like bout to be the second coming or something. Yall quick to by Adele album and all she sounds like is every other black American singing but some type of way she’s slaying lol.

  44. gaaglooo! April 13, 2012

Llllol I See so many racists balck people here, and you are the first one crying for racists but you think music has a color! SMH

Iggy, S***-B**** you do your thang and ignore this hypocrits racists m************ lol

  45. Greg April 14, 2012

I just read her feature in some little magazine & it really made me fully understand where the girl’s coming from & points out not only that she is authentic, but people really shouldn’t judge unless they got all the facts,, Unless you know Iggy’s life story or anyone else, don’t speak on it & keep it pushin’… (to the real fake b******, i.e. Nicki Miraj)

  46. Stephen April 14, 2012

LOL @ “somebody who likes something THERE not supposed to like”…
    It’s THEY’RE, not there

  47. Tbozfan10 April 14, 2012

Lmfao this dumb b**** “gaag-whoore” or whatever above me. You sound like a typical ignorant white fool who doesn’t know a damn thing about racism if you think Iggy has ever expirenced “racism.” shut the hell up, you make all of us white people look stupid ignorant.

  48. lola April 14, 2012

Thatgrapejuice I wish y’all would stop posting about these nobodies! Iggy hasn’t even had a couple of million views on her youtube videos. Stop trying to hype up artists who will get nowhere. I checked the girl out the first time y’all posted about her and wasn’t impressed. She is a f****** phony. How the hell do you come from Austrailia to America at 14, still have a n accent, but when you’re around blacks or rapping, you want to sound like a stereotypical, black, southern person? It makes no sense.

  49. Tbozfan10 April 14, 2012

Wtf?! To the person who posted this:

“Kim nor Eve never jocked Lady Gaga for her image and never sold out like Nicki did. They never seek white America’s acceptance like Nicki does.”

True enough with Eve, but Lil’ Kim is as bad as Nicki if not worse! Lil’ Kim has dyed her beautiful skin white and chopped off her formerly cute nose. Who the f are you trying to play?

  50. Tbozfan10 April 14, 2012

Hold up y’all, I just reread her quote and she was TOTALLY respectful of the fact that Eve wasn’t feeling her. She was very classy about it, and Eve wasn’t wrong in sharing her personal reflections on new female MCs in the game. Lil Kim should take notes from these two ladies on how to respectfully disagree.

  51. Jamie April 14, 2012

people on this site are so f****** petty and stupid with this wigger talk, and focusing on race. eminem is the best example that shows rap knows no race.

  52. x0 October 7, 2012

does it matter what race you are . really ? she going to rap whether you like her or not so get over it .

  53. Danny October 31, 2012

We will NEVER have peace. NEVER.

  54. MEL June 12, 2013

Apologies ahead of time for the “essay”…But I’m with Iggy on this one. You don’t have to like it, if you don’t like it then obviously it was not made for you. They were both respectful in speaking their own opinion and media is just amping it up. I feel like the race card does get thrown around a lot when it comes to rap/ hip hop because that’s where it was generated. But people need to realize that it’s not about race, it’s about culture, skills and telling your story. I like Eve, and I like Iggy, as well as Azaelia Banks, Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Kim, Rah Digga, Foxy Brown, Trina ect. Music is about expressing yourself. Music is art, plain and simple. You either have a taste for it or you don’t.

As far as I’m concerned Eve no longer has the creditials to determine was real or not. And has far as her being a ” veteran of hip hop” there’s a difference between
being a veteran and just falling off.
