Nicki Minaj Addresses ‘Sell Out’ Claims / Criticizes Female Rappers

Published: Monday 9th Apr 2012 by David

Never before has the world seen a  Female Rapper fare so well on a Pop front in the way Queens belle  Nicki Minaj has in the last two years.

Outselling Rihanna‘s ‘Loud‘ and Beyonce‘s ‘4‘ in the US with her debut set ‘Pink Friday‘, Minaj’s success albeit commendable, has placed her under intense criticism.

Criticism, which has seen her labelled a sell-out for embracing Pop music.

Now  she has weighed in on these claims.

Her thoughts below…

Speaking on the matter with Charlamagne Tha God, she explained:

People thought that when I came out that was me in my entirety. It wasn’t. It was a small facet of me.

When I started Rapping I didn’t think I could be myself but when I started winning I started doing my accents, my voices and my costumes- who you see now is a more multifaceted mixture of all the personalities that I have in me.

For everyone who doesn’t understand me,there’s someone who does. I grew up in New York my whole life, so I wasn’t having the same conversation I was having in the block that I was having in the office when I was working on Wall Street.

It’s unfortunate that Hip Hop culture forces people to lean only to one side, when that’s detrimental to your future and growth.  We haven’t seen what Jay Z has done happen with a woman.

I mean- I tip my hat to Queen Latifah because she does movies, theater, musical, voice overs for cartoons- is she a sell out or is she winning?

So these other b”tches that only did Rap and now they’re washed, living in low income housing- is that really winning? Just so a n*gger in the street can give me a dap? The same nigga that didn’t buy my album anyway? Get the f*ck outta here!

Minaj’s point- though aimed at Femcees- is a problem that affects the wider (urban) community.

Indeed, though it’s a tough pill to swallow, the urban community’s fetishization of poverty is the very reason the success rate for Female Rappers is so low.

Sure, though Lil Kim‘s run at the top was undeniably groundbreaking, there is no reason she couldn’t be as powerful as Jay Z, Kanye and the like if she had struck other ventures when her name was still hot.

Unfortunately, like many narrow minded people, some members of the black community equate mainstream success with ‘trying to be white’ and avoid branching out like the plague- robbing themselves of reaching their full potential.

  2. Dev April 9, 2012

I think she missed the point by miles. Queen Latafia kept it real when she rapped, sang and acted, and never diluted anything she did. I have no issue with Nikki but she has to hold her hand up and admit she’s diluted and is more pop than rap. Using jay-z is a bad example. The only thing he sold Is his soul to the devil but he kept his rapping real and managed to cross over.

  3. RichnBlack11(Beyonce keep em MAD) April 9, 2012

I don’t blame you nicki get your coins Hun f*** what others think

  4. Ja’mila Dior April 9, 2012

I agree with nicki a trillion percent its okay to branch out and try different venues. I mean why should you stay in one lane when there are so many out there. I mean if u wanna rap, sing,do country records or whatever feel free to do you. Who has a say in what you can do.

  5. Paul April 9, 2012

I LOVE this woman. Black folk need to stop with this glorification of poverty and branch out into new things. This glorification of poverty is ONE of the main reasons all other races is passing us by in this country. Now I know racisim both overt and institutionalized exists and that same racism plays a big part in our situation but, our biggest problem is the choices we make. There is nothing wrong with Nicki Minaj or any other black artist branching out and winning. YOU DON’T NEED TO BE ONLY A RAPPER TO BE REAL. As long as it is legal, I don’t care how you are doing it.

Dead @ the site saying Nick outsold Rihanna’s Loud and Beyonce’s 4 to make her seem really big. When she outsells them overall, then compare.

  9. gio88 April 9, 2012

Nicki doesn’t understand that she is critizised not because she is trying a different genre but because she is doing the same crap music the everyone is doing right now , she has talent and people doesn’t understand why she is wasting time doing crap music ,searching for money or fame instead of using her talent to create something different and HERS !she could do even great pop music but she choses instead to do a bad dance music with redone or david guetta…..

  10. Os April 9, 2012

she is right there is some solid point there, there truth hurts, and for speaking on it the hate she is getting is Amplified, but it is what it is she is doing her some will like her some won’t,people don’t like changes this was going on way before nicki, any time a female rapper trying to add something else to there gern are just straight up explore other facet of there musical talent, they get shun label as a sellout and the list go,s on,even my other fav Missy Elliot came under fire for dabbling in pop/other gerns it,s so messy on both sides, some of the pop fans is going ofter nicki because they believes she is going in there favs lan and sh-t,an artist should be an artist not limited to one aspect of music.jay kayne and other male Mcs and rappers isn’t doing full hip-hop they are mixing it with other gerns…but people justify it fined all type of excuses to give them a free pass, but when a female do it all want to call them out,man the game is so f-cking double standard full of hypocrites and Bias f-ckers….anyways keep doing you nicki minaj.

  11. KAT DELUNA FAN April 9, 2012

She outsold LOUD in the US because they were released one week apart.4 on the other hand was released 8 months after 🙄 🙄 mmm

  12. kingphoenix9 April 9, 2012

What Nicki doesn’t realize is that nobody is mad at her (at least not real fans) for going pop…we are mad because the caliber of her work is way down, she is using all these gimmicks like we are dumb as children, and she is not mastering her craft just following trends. And she is being a cocky asshole like her two little albums soldify her as a legend or something…everything you got now could be gone tommorow Nicki.

And Sam, stop trying to compare her success to Cassiihanna and Beyonce… Nicki will never be on the Level on their level, she has excluded the fans that made her, and it will be her undoing if she dosen’t get of her high horse and make amends.

  13. Spunkypoop April 9, 2012

  14. therealhonesttruth April 9, 2012

Nicki shut up. It will do you some good. I can honestly say only a few celebrities get that shut up part right. (including Beyonce) when you don’t say anything you sound a lot better. When you talk a lot you sound stuck up and bitchy and negative.

  15. RoyalKev April 9, 2012

I saw this last week, its really sad things are this way. I don’t know why I keep finding myself in a position to defend Nicki (I’m not 1 of her stans), but I do because she makes a lot of sense. Some poeple have that crabs in a barrel mentality. They’re usually the ones complaining about how there’s a lack of something and then don’t ever do anything about it (in terms of support). Then once someone does, their judging, critiquing and critizing for all the wrong reasons. These kinds of people love the underrated, they want people to climb up a ladder halfway so that they are near the top(but close enough to the ground). Once someone has too much of something it turns into hate and envy. It’s fine if you don’t like what someone brings to the table, but if you hate them for winning its just sad.

  23. Kyle April 9, 2012

I wish the media would just stop pushing this issue because it comes up in every interview and it’s starting to grow old. Just do you Nicki and who cares what anyone says. At the end of the day, I don’t see Nicki Minaj as the ONLY female rapper that ever existed. I am fully aware of the women that came before her and I truly believe many female rappers have had their moment and Nicki is having hers now. The comparisons are growing old and just let Nicki’s star shine right now PLEASE.

  25. shion April 9, 2012

….yet in still, all u ppl hollering abt crabs in the bucket and ppl hating to see ppl winning, we would not “hate” so much on all these artist if there music was great, but its not. This whole past decade has been filled with gimmicky, tricky music and ppl, excluding the younger generation, have not been fooled. That’s why u seen such low record sales. Esp for rap/hip-hop/r&b. I’ve said this before, you cant throw tricks and gimmicks together and throw a urban/soul beat on it and call it rap/hip-hop/r&b n think we r going to support it. You just cant do it. One thing you young generation have yet to learn about that crowd is that they can pick out fake stuff when they hear it. And if it aint right or if they cant feel it in there soul, they aint having. N majority of this new r&b/hip-hop/r&b has been horrible or in most cases, just sub-par. Also you cant completely blame fans/consumers of this genre for not supporting when the labels and media have continuely black listed are black artist by not rigously promoting there music, which leads majority of music buyers not knowing

  28. Popeater April 9, 2012

I’m not even a Nicki Minaj fan, but she said that!!! I agree with her 100%. In our community, you are only allowed to be certain way, before you are considered a sell out. Being respected in one community can only take you so far.

  29. Girrrl April 9, 2012

Nicki gets a girl bye for that! I say shes a sell out not because of the songs she sings but the image she portrays.since she blew up her skin has gotten lighter (bleaching) she’s walking around trying to be white from the neck up. Then she bought that ghetto fab booty and is glamourizing being in that trap and stripping knowing kids are looking up to her cartoon gimmick ie the Ellen show. Can she explain that?

  30. EnRanc April 9, 2012

Whatever Nicki. When you alienate your core fan base with poppier sound in order to appeal to a poppier audience, your days are officially numbered. Yeah, sure, you may sell more right then and right there, but it’s going to come at the cost of longevity. Pop fans are not as loyal as fans of other genres; they’ll love you when you’re the hottest thing out there, and then ignore you when you’re not. Black artists should NEVER sell out and trade in their original sound to appease the white/pop crowd, instead make THEM come around to you.

What’s going to ultimately happen to Nicki is that she’ll keep on making these corny hip-pop records with David Guetta and the like that corny pop fans will like for as long as that sound is popular. In the meantime she’ll lose her black fans, because black people don’t tend to go for it. Then next year when the white pop crowd has moved onto something else, she’ll have no audience left because she alienated black folks and white folks dropped her.

Lil Kim, tacky and low rent as she is, will always be able to perform for a decent sized crowd and will have long time fans, because hip hop heads haven’t forgot that she came out with Biggie and she never went in the opposite direction, trying to be liked by the same queens who were into Britney in the late 90s.

But hey, maybe long term success ain’t what she’s banking on. Maybe she just wanted some here and now success before she moved onto something else, but I promise you at this rate she’s going 5 years from now no one will still be talking about Nicki Minaj.

  31. Texas Cowgirl April 9, 2012

    GO NICKI MAKE YOUR MONEY!

  32. BitchPlease April 9, 2012

Trina , Eve and Mc Lyte are business minded female rappers. Queen Latifah is the biggest influence in hip hop. At the end of day Nicki we saw it all done before by Lil Kim..and you might make it in this game maybe 6-7 years..

  33. BitchPlease April 9, 2012

Can’t forget about Missy Elliott either..

  34. BitchIcantevenspellwelfare April 9, 2012

“It’s unfortunate that Hip Hop culture forces people to lean only to one side, when that’s detrimental to your future and growth. ”

LIES! I guess Nicki never heard Kanye West’s BRILLIANT “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” It’s a album that can NEVER be boxed in, yet it’s cohesive & will live forever. Check the critic’s scores.

Nobody cares if Nicki branches out & does different types of music. Remember Madonna’s “Bedtime Stories” album. Different and GREAT! What I do care about is quality and Nicki’s current music is lacking in that department. In fact, it’s garbage. Just because I’m a fan of an artist does not mean that I will not call it like I see it.

Nicki is a big money maker and a power player in the pop music world but she is also a lackluster “artist”. What else is new?

However, for those who enjoy it, please continue to enjoy.

  35. DTG April 9, 2012

How she gonna compare herself to Queen Latifah? Queen Latifah “branched out,” but in film…she never went pop with her music. Bad comparison.

Missy’s a bad comparison too. Missy was always colorful, eclectic, eccentric and light hearted, but remained within her genre. She kept it hip hop-centered most of the time. She didn’t go pop either.

  36. BitchIcantevenspellwelfare April 9, 2012

@ENRANC, “Black artists should NEVER sell out and trade in their original sound to appease the white/pop crowd, instead make THEM come around to you.”

    PREACH!!!!!!

    Read it and WEEP!!!!!

  37. Dlux April 9, 2012

She made a point. Why stay Hip Hop when Hip Hop consumers dont buy records? Get that money while its out here!

  38. Tren April 9, 2012

Let me check: Kim was in several movies, commercials, fashion campaigns. She also partnered with several brands to release Kim branded or inspired products.

You would think that a blog dedicated to music would remember this. Last I check Kim still lives next to Oprah in the alpines.

So while your blogging next to Khia at the public library Kim is still winning. She has your mind !

  39. xoxo April 9, 2012

    @dlux
okay, so music doesnt matter, aslong as you are making money? this is the main reason why hip hop is dead. these people dont care about hip hop culture or expansion, they just want a quick buck.

  40. fsdg April 9, 2012

Nicki accepted she sold herself by saying those words and then she lashes out to people who says she does pop. This b**** contradict herself each day.

  41. Nikkiischillin April 9, 2012

I like Nicki. Keep doin’ ya thing. She’s right. I am happy for her success.

  42. QueenOfTheNavy April 9, 2012

tren, if kim is so successful why hasnt she been paying her taxes since 2002.

  43. YOOSONDALOOSE April 9, 2012

She is right, female rapper haven’t played their cards right.

  44. ummm_no! April 9, 2012

Bytch please..ur ryhmes are tired ..ur a*** and the rest of u is fake..ur boss is a down-low f** who is evil and u think acting like a 10 year old screaming bout I’m barbie and I’m crazy..is cute..try agiab slore..ur worse then a sell-out..ur a trator~ u sell out ur on people and is proud to do it..y’all ur the stupid h**..#realtalk

  45. ♛ POP Royalty ♛ (Rude Boy) April 9, 2012

ok , i heared that already , it is a bonus track in the deluxe version of “RR” and here are my thoughts and I’m gonna hit her with reality :

what i like about nicki :

    her ambitious
her wanting to be a somebody. like being the female Jay-z , everyone has the right to dream u know.
    her being a shady b****. 😆

what i hate about her :

1.her don’t realizing her material is lacking in both the pop genre and the hip-hop genre , whether her hip-hop songs or Pop songs ! like her biggest single is “super bass” and it was a pop song and the chorus was not sung by her. so ……. 🙄

2.her starting that “lil kim” feud and having it as a theme for like 2 album now ” not counting the mixtapes” 😉 , which make her a b**** with small brain for starting a s*** and swimming it for 2 eras.
she copied lil kim , lil kim refused to get copied , nicki got mad and took advantage that LK was ” not in the zone professionally ” and she thought she’s a winner , WTF ?!!

those b**** need to go at it old skool , 2 on the stage and actually RAP ! LK will win because she’s a better rapper while staying true herself. not selling out. nothing is wrong about nicki going pop , but she need to stop acting as if she was that beast of a rapper that she left rapping cuz she’s ” too perfect” to do only rap. b**** know she will got bombed if she will be put against a basic real female rapper. especially with her wack lyrics.
    3. her brain lack the ability to differentiate betweena sell-out and a diverse creative artist , like missy eliott stayed real and real hip-hop while crossing over to the mainstream audience. she didn’t go pop to please fans and have fast guranteed money. she made pop folks appreciate her art without selling-out , the same goes to queen latifah , queen latifah is multi-talented , if she can do acting and stuffs beside singing , why not ?! but is nicki is that good as a real rapper to begin with ?!! i have to disagree. so u need to be great in your main field and when you are that great in your main field , you will have the power to try some new stuffs , cuz if you failed at that new thing you are trying , you will still have something to fall on.

    4. this b**** think as a business woman , ppl of those type favor quantity over quality , so ….

    5. being a fake b**** , you talk about education and blah blah blah and look at your lyrics , is that what you want children to hear ?! miss me b**** …..

RR is good as a pop album and this b**** can’t be taken seriously as a rapper. she’s 50% wack hip-hop and 30% wack copied style from gaga , lil kim , grace jones , etc … 20% pop gimmicks with hit makers like redone and guetta.

    peace and out.

  46. Kc April 9, 2012

This is why I can’t and will never be a fan of hers. When you cross over you better stay there cause you can’t come back home when it hits the fan. It is not about the now it is about the long run and the way I see it , she won’t be around . To be real honest, I don’t think she even cares. Just hit and run just like her sound. It’s whatever girl. Do you but do it real quick so we can get somebody else in your place that is not afraid to do hip hop with substance.

  47. GetChoLife April 9, 2012

Nicki isn’t claiming she’s winning. She is winning! I have every reciept for every accomplishment & record she’s brokren. Please don’t say Nicki is doing what Kim did years ago. Nicki has a resume that most male rappers have yet to accomplish. If Kim would have been more smarter and business savvy she wouldn’t be owing the IRS. Is that winning Team Kim? Is it?

  48. NICK April 9, 2012

SHE IS NOT A SELL-OUT, SHE IS 10000)% correct-no female rapper has done like JAY & KANYE & ventured out, NICKI IS KILLING IT RIGHT NOW, let them hate boo, your new cd is fire & i still bump the original PINK FRIDAY! hahaha., they all hating & it is sad, if u hot, get off the pot & put out some music, otherwise SHUT THE HELL UP & LET HER DO HER THING!!!!!!

  49. jamir21 April 9, 2012

I just heard this b**** is planning a world tour ?????

    W.T.F ????

Is she even that big in other countries besides Japan and U.K. ????

She better do smaller venues outside the U.S. or have a big name artist open for her like Motha Bey, Rhi, Gaga

  50. jill April 9, 2012

NIcki sucks and so does the RR album. She won’t be around in 2 years.

    BYE!!!!!

She DOES care about what people think that’s why she constantly address this issue.
    She’s FAKE!!!!

How can you be on a STARSHIP then a month later you’re in a TRAP HOUSE????
    She’s confused!!!!

  51. jill April 9, 2012

    @JAMIR21

I Know right? How can she do a World Tour?

Bey, Rihanna or Gaga will never open for Minaj.

Nicki wants to be GAGA so bad. Nicki thinks she can sing too LOL…..

  52. Anne April 9, 2012

I can see the Loud comparison but its premature to compare 4 to PF since its a lot newer and is still releasing singles and selling. The 4 era is not complete in other words so its too soon to make that determination.

  53. jamir21 April 9, 2012

    @ Jill

I know….Nicki does want to be gaga with these weird ass outfits and s*** !!!!

With that horrible ass performance at the grammys !!!!

She is becoming the black lady gaga !!!!!

A world tour seriously…like i said is she even that BIG of a star to do so !!!!

  54. Napaul April 9, 2012

This interview kind of saddens me because I don’t think she understands the art of humility. It’s one thing to have success but to think winning constitutes putting others down to build yourself up is not the true definition of winning. When you have cats like SB and Charlamane gassing you up and these radio DJ’s that only want you on there show for ratings, you really don’t understand the truth of humility. When you have fans gassing you up, you start believing the hype. Fans are a fickle thing, one day there here and the next day they are one to the next trend and favor of the week. I truly wish she prays and thanks God for her success, because the mentality that these yes people are putting in her head is going to be her down fall. Other Female EmCee’s have never taken this mentality to this extreme except Foxy and you see where she is at right now. If you don’t support others, you will be the next non factor. Real talk!

  55. ITAINTYOBABY April 9, 2012

Nicki just don’t get it, she’s doing what the female rappers before her has already done nothing groundbreaking she’s not the only business minded female rapper but some of these Nicki fans are too stupid to realize this. Nicki just is in the right place at the right time when there isn’t another female rap artist is out.

  56. 4RealDoe April 9, 2012

Nicki is just excited because she has the Illumanti backing her so heavy. But once she comes to her senses and leaves (like Kim), they’re going to do her the same way they did Kim. She’s just a young hood girl with rich dreams. The fact of the matter is, she has SOLD OUT! F*** everything else.. The b**** is now a Pop star. How can she be the Queen of Rap with songs like “Starships” and “Turn Me On”? That’s not RAP! That’s POP! Big difference.

  57. Texas Cowgirl April 9, 2012

STFU! There is no illuminati! Most people think for themselves

  58. TheMan April 9, 2012

Nicki is to be commended for all of her ventures. However, she did a 360 out of nowhere. If she had done things gradually then it would have been different. But she cdidn’t come out with all of these crazy outfits. She could make hiphop records that are pop leaning. Branching out is a great thing. Those that branch out are usually more successful. As far as Queen Latiah is concerned thats a completely different story. She stuck to her hiphop roots, while branching out. She didn’t become a parody. Also, Nicky is quite cocky. It’s like any constructive criticism towards her is taken the wrong way.

  59. THE GREAT LACEFRONCE.(The Flop Prophet) April 9, 2012

    The H** is LOCAL

How many copies did PF sell ww???? 🙂

Loollll. Look at RR flopping ALREADY & pushing far less in 1st wk sales than PF

The GREAT LACEFRONCE predicted a flop and a flop it shall be!!!!

It will drop dramatically after the 1st wk, just like the GREAT LACEFRONCE predicted with MANdonnas MDNA. Was I right? Of COURSE I was as usual. The HYPE dies after the first week.

The GREAT LACEFRONCE senses a flop before most ppl

  60. mobwife April 9, 2012

Wow, I saw here being adored in Time Square what does she mean she is not appreciated in NY? Her language in this interview is simply disappointing. She should know by now she is going to have to take the good with the bad. Other’s have endured much worse Minaj, come on! It is very sad to hear what the media (TV, print, blogs, radio) sometimes says about artists just to be mean but hey, keep it movin’ & groovin’ ….screw’em!

PAUSE…..who is a loser? Nicki HAS COPIED EVERYONE WTF ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT? She copied Lil Kim, she copied Lady Gaga it is what it is!

SWEETIE EVERYONE CAN “CODE SWITCH”….WHAT THE HELL AM I LISTENING TO?

  61. AZ April 9, 2012

Why is she trying to act like she is the first female MC to branch out and do something new…. her music is disposable so I hope she gets a clothing line or TV show or something b/c her fans will not be there 4ever….

her barbz have already proved they are not buying a garbage CD. … She needs to humble herself b/c other female MCs have done much more than her and not living in low income housing either….

EVE – her own TV show & clothing line

LATIFAH – as she mentioned …. actress, TV & Film producer

LAURYN HILL – actress…hasnt put album out in over 12 yrs but still selling out concerts in Europe tho. that’s what happens when u make REAL MUSIC

MISSY – MULTIMILLIONAIRE PRODUCER … Producers get paid! She can’t fck wit Missy’s money

All of the artists I mentioned above thought outside of the box and made music that crossed over to the pop world …. yet the quality of their art was far BETTER than this mess she is giving us …..

She is a PHONY … she is a hustler pretending to be an artist …. her music is not sincere like Drake’s music …… thats why he will last longer than her.

I mean- I tip my hat to Queen Latifah because she does movies, theater, musical, voice overs for cartoons- is she a sell out or is she winning?

Umm, generally I don’t mind Nicki but this comment deserves a “ho sitcho a** down” from me. Queen La NEVER used her tits, cooch or a** to sell records or command attention. She rapped, sang jazz, acts, produces and carries herself like a QUEEN – she does NOT wear multi-colored wigs or questionable outfits and profess to have multiple personalities.

On the real I’m happy Nicki is getting that paper but look how she’s getting it. Is she progressing the female rap game or setting it back? Only time will tell.

It is so beautiful to see that not EVERYONE is falling for this ridiculousness.

    Thank you @ENRANC, @♛ POP ROYALTY ♛ (RUDE BOY), @NAPAUL, @MOBWIFE, @AZ, @MELY B

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is true talk.

I adore Nicki. I have from day one. But to see her compromise her talent for futile, limited, lifeless, and gutless pop music saddens me.

Pop music does NOT have to be like that… see Janet’s “The Velvet Rope,” Madonna’s “Confessions on a Dance Floor,” and Rihanna’s “Rated R” for examples. To think about Nicki particularly, see ” Moment for Life.”

I wish her the best because I am a big fan but “Roman Reloaded” is simply insulting.

  65. prettigurlrockD April 9, 2012

Obviously whether she’s hiphop or pop she’ll never be able to please everyone so she should just keep on her grind, stay eyeing the prize, and forget the haters. Not everyone gonna understand her. I think it’s good she branched out. Not too impressed with some of her latest work but I congrajulate her for trying. Anyway, I respect her more after hearing this interview. She answered the questions in a great in-depth way. Good job nicki. This may be the only track that stands out on the album though….

This is eveything i was thinking! Nicki you are doing too much, your talent should speak for itself.

@Sam How are you going to compare PF to 4? PF has an 8 month head start on 4 and 4 is only down by 550k in US before it passes it.

  68. IV. April 9, 2012

Nicki is winning and you b****** is mad. You can’t be mad at her because she wants more for herself. Be mad that Lil Kim and all those other b****** dropped the ball and is a failure and can’t get back.

All that wack s*** about her music being wack if you not a fan why you checking for it? Why you taking the time to download it? Why the f*** are you everywhere she be at?

    You bum ass beenafan n*****.

  69. commanderofthedancefloor April 9, 2012

wasnt the question is she a sellout?? not are you “winning” aka making money?? lol

its not always about the money! some of the best albums arent the best sellers like beyonces 4 her third best album! so far!! riris rated r, i wish she would do another album like this and just say f*** the sales!!! (my dream) nicki i hope she stops paying attention to the sales and delivers a memorable album!
but i will stop giving nicki so much crap for this album, its only her second who knows maybe i will fall back in love with her after her next album!! nicki get your money with this album but please go back to your roots and kill it with you third album!!!

  70. GETONMYLEVEL April 9, 2012

I like Nicki I really do but I’m finding my self not feeling the attitude she is giving off, yes she should speak to the haters on her crossover success but to throw a knife at female MC’s isn’t right, she is becoming more arrogant and cocky which is not a good look, she needs to really stop drinking that SB juice because people can only take it so long. I love her music she is amazing thats why she is successful,,, She is not a Jay-z yet or Diddy or even a mogul she still has time and she needs to humble herself not even Rihanna is talking sideways like that about other artist that paved the way for her.

  71. TheZolonskiTrap April 9, 2012

FYI..yall always say SAM or TGJ “d*** ride’s” NICKI, is it HER fault that she always has something going on? no it isn’t! she does what she has to to and this being a BLOG sight, not a “treat everyone equally” sight, they post alot of Nicki post. Blog sights are meant to blog, which means they speak about how they feel about a topic all the while giving you information…why do you think it says what do YOU think about blah blah blah yada yada yada…

Nicki Minaj is going to be nicki minaj, which means multiple personalities, aniamted rap flow, different style of dressing and exc..if you don’t like it TURN THE CHANNEL, CHANGE THE STATION, BYPASS THE BLOG POST, OVERLOOK THE CD!!! it’s not hard..there’s only 2 true reason’s you HATERZ interact with Nicki, either you are a down-low fan but yo’re too much on the -name unspoken-d*** ride, orrrrrr you just interacting so us Barbz, KenBarbz, Boyz, even versatile Nicki fans can speak upon your ridiculous comments so yall b****** can start talking about “we d*** ride Nicki’ or “we stuck on stupid if we like her”…it’s like why go through all that instead of admitting you like Nicki Minaj??!?!?

NOW, as for the interview itself…nicki minaj showed her very rare side of ghettoness…or that was Roman full throttle… LOL….she said “ya’ll don’t want me to rep yall….f*** you n*****”….Lol..but what she was speaking was the truth…now everyone please be honset, the instant you hear the word POP, you think of little and teenage WHITE people at a Britney Spears or Hannah Montana concert, yeah i know there a black or mexican or asian pop fans, but yall know what is the first that pops in ya head when you hear POP! like when you hear Hip-Hop..you think of ghetto black people altho it has a mixed ethnicity of fans…point being, pop fans are the fans that supprt and purchase singles, altho that ain’t true…and hip=hop fans are the fans that don’t purchase singles and download it illegally of frostwire or somthing….Nicki feels that hip-hop fans don’t supprt her enough right now..that’s why she got Pop and Hip-hop on the CD, so it’s a win win, loose loose…either way, I LOVE AND SUPPORT NICKI MINAJ!!!

  72. va gal 25 April 9, 2012

you know what this is the first time that b**** nick has said any thing that makes sense ! ……..she right ! get your money branch out do your thing …. but b**** don’t sit here and steal this b**** style and then act like you were doing it first !! i thought Identity Theft ! was a crime….you fake as hell…b**** . now copy that ….or roger that …naw copy that cause thats what you do …..go kim!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. Keepwinning April 9, 2012

Nicki u said it perfectly! Some female rappers r 2 worried bout staying hood rather than expanding their craft & brand. Cuz we all knw that hood don’t buy albums. And congrats on become 1st female rapper 2 have 1 n UK!! Funny I could have sworn u haven’t been there n year. Oh well still amazing! Hi haterz #Maino

  74. Greg April 9, 2012

Girl, please don’t name-drop THE Queen Latifah cuz ya’ll ain’t even in the same lane! To counter Nicki’s claim, Missy Elliott was able to bridge R&B with Rap/Hip-Hop with Pop but it was still substantial MUSIC!

This b**** can’t whine and complain about the underlying sexism in the world, when the music she comes with only feeds into everything wrong with today’s society. Beyond the vapid nature and blatant style-over-substance, Nicki’s music actually demeans women & possibly even black people in general.

Latifah & Missy & even somewhat Kim promoted female, as well as black empowerment. And other artists of today like Katy Perry and Lady GaGa are just as vapid if not more, but their music isn’t actually offensive. Half the time she’s being a “Stupid H**” & the other half she spends rambling on about Lil’ Kim…. Everything she stands for is disgusting and depraved..

But it’s okay, usually artists like Nicki have a relatively short 15 minutes.. I just can’t wait for Missy/Kim/Eve to come back & show this raggedy tramp how it’s really done!! 😛

  75. Jessica April 10, 2012

Yup!!! Eve is dropping her single next month, Missy already dropped hers, Queen Latifah will drop a single just now, Da Brat is almost finished her album- NICKI IS FINISHED, LMAO!!! BYE CRAPMINAJ- BETTER SAVE YOUR FLOP MONEY BECAUSE THE REAL FEMALE MUSICIANS ARE BACK!! NOW LAURYN, RAH DIGGA, MS. JADE, MC LYTE MAKE A COME BACK, THIS CLOWN WILL BE DESTROYED= DEAD TO MUSIC THAT WILL BE GREAT!!! LOL!!! GOODBYE CLOWN!!!

  76. jay April 10, 2012

@GREG and Mely B, Agree with you guys these girl are not even in the same level of talent as Queen ,mc lyte Eve or even missy ,shes not a rapper ,shes just another generic pop product ,she is a lucky girl because she came out in a time when theres no new females competiting in rap ,shes feeding a new generation of teenagers or music listeners that doesn´t demand talent and quality ,they can be Fed with any generic stuff and if its danceable fun, stupid and catchy, they are ok with it ,its also a time when music for the teenagers its about the looks, in case of the females its about tits, ass and crazy looks ,if you look like a clown, halloween commercial or dance like a stripper in a pole then its better (thats what succes its about) its ok that shes doing her thing and making money of it ,im not mad about that ,everybody its entitled to find succes in life ,what I don´t like its that she talks about being talented and woman empowerment and she just contradicts herself ,shes medium talented, she acts like a dumb ass crazy ho,talks like a baby ,shes just egocentric and delusional ,sometimes I wonder if she uses her brain ? ¡
for me shes just a lucky girl and a very mediocre talent ,she needs to stop trying so hard,if her music its hip hop or pop I think thats not relevant , its very clear she(just like today singers)is in the game just for the money ,but at least she can do it with some dignity, she needs to get her act up and demonstrate she really deserves to be in the game but not with cheap gimmicks and stupid talk just with talent¡¡¡¡

  77. Tbozfan10 April 13, 2012

“fetishization of poverty??!” wtf are you people smoking? Every single rap song out is about bragging about how much money one has and how it makes them so much better than everyone else. This “fetishization” is all in your head. If everyone weren’t so obsessed with trying to make music about money they don’t have, maybe we’d see where all the money is really at.

  78. TheTruthHurts@Bren January 17, 2013

Nicki is a chameleon sellout. First she went and stole Lil Kims look and sound and now she is imitating Gaga. Khia got one think right, she said you h*** sound like whoever is hot at the time well? BINGO! Not that I ever though Nicki Minaj was any good to begin with, I remember being sent music from her while she was still underground, people begging me to listen to her wack ass rap in slow motion like some helium chugging call service machine.I listened to it just to say I had listened to it and then I placed it in the recycling bin NEVER to be seen or heard again.

I will never buy Nicki’s garbage. I have Lil Kim, Khia and Missy Elliot in my cd collection. I think I even have an Eve CD but I cannot even imagine buying music by a singer that can’t sing or a rapper that can’t rap, she can’t do either!

Plus then she is dissing Kim,Mariah,Steven Tyler and even Cher? I just #Cannot
