New Song: Usher – ‘Scream’

Published: Thursday 26th Apr 2012 by Sam

It’s here!

Usher‘s hotly anticipated new single ‘Scream’ roared onto radio moments ago!

As ever, That Grape Juice has your first online listen. What are you waiting for? Get ready to dance after the jump…

[ti_audio media=”75114″]

Fire!

Urban-Dance at its premium, balanced best, in ‘Scream’ Usher has found a bonafide and deserving hit.

More than any of his Pop’er outings, ‘Scream’ positions R&B Usher in today’s current climate, without compromising the vocal trinklets and isms which we’ve come to love and emulate over the years.

While lyrically not offering much, the pulsating production takes centre-stage here; which when paired with the infectious “let me hear you say “oh baby”, “oh baby”, “oh baby” hook, solidifies the cut as one of the 33 year old’s most stellar uptempo’s yet. Indeed, if ‘Yeah’ had a younger, fresher, and more current cousin, ‘Scream’ would be he. Epicly euphoric.

  3. hunni2nice April 26, 2012

As much as im a mahoosive fan of Usher i just can’t with his new single Scream…i want RnB Climax type! miss MyWay, 8701, Confessions. This just sounds like a crappier version of Dj got us falling in love….this album better have MORE RNB and less headache electro dance please!

  4. KAT DELUNA FAN April 26, 2012

    Ugh *vomit*

  5. ck April 26, 2012

What the heck is this after Climax i expected him to make a major R&B comeback but guess what he does he goes back to that pop s*** urggggggg. This just sounds like every song on the radio how does he want to stand out

  6. REALRasta April 26, 2012

  7. B Lamont April 26, 2012

I hate when people expect artists to be one-dimensional…I love having a mix of different types of music…He’s following in the footsteps of his great inspirations MJ and JJ!!! Although B Brown is one of his inspirations, he was one-dimensional

  8. Maddox Lenair April 26, 2012

Are you calling this ”Urban-Dance” simply because he’s a black artist. Because if so, thats f***** up. This song has NO urban elements and if a white artist sang this song, then you would be calling the genre ”dance”! Get it straight before posting ignorant things. Absolutely ridiculous!

  9. hunni2nice April 26, 2012

Even for a generic its the weakest of the lot in MY OPINION, gave me a headache all that shouting, though i did like the long high note near the end, but thats about it lol.

  10. Siberian Prince April 26, 2012

Why do people keep comparing Usher to MJ? He is nothing of the sort. Michael Jackson wrote and produced just about all of his music. Choreographed his OWN dance moves. Mj is a legend and a true artist. Every thing usher does is given to him from the songs to the dance moves. Usher is just a puppet. Dont get me wrong usher can sing and all, but people PLEASE stop using him and MJ in the same sentence. He will never fill his shoes

  11. christinastherealtalent April 26, 2012

Usher is such a hypocrite. I remember when he dissed other r&b acts for going the electro POP wagon then he turns around and does it too for the sake of a lousy hit.

  12. pigfeet April 26, 2012

Its funny how “That grape juice” only supports artist that they can get on the site or give them any type of play (besides beyonce). Y’all full of sh*t. This song is wack.

  13. jill April 26, 2012

Really usher, You couldn’t do R&B for this album? This sounds like Chris Brown song. Anything for a hit?

  14. jill April 26, 2012

I bet if Justin Timberlake comes out with an R&B album it would be straight FIRE!!!!! Everyone is anticipating JT’s album!!!!

  15. lea April 26, 2012

This is GARBAGE!!!!! Climax was good but he took two steps back with this crap!!!
Oh baby baby wtf? Scream wtf?

Usher you been out for many years wtf is happening? 8701? Confessions? Was the best….. Everything on the damn radio sounds just alike. Artists needs to stand out, do something different……. This s*** isn’t new it’s recycled beats from the 70s and 80s heck even techno was out in the 90s; Kylie Minogue anyone? Remember her? Yeah okay….

  16. JJFan1814 April 26, 2012

Yall know nothing of the music business. Usher is R&B and like a few people, he can also be POP. Of course he’s going to cater to both genres, that’s how you STAY RELEVANT. Him, Rihanna, Nicki know what they f*** they’re doing.

If your faves switched it up instead of strictly sticking to one genre, maybe they’ll be relevant,

  17. mary April 26, 2012

    @JJFAN1814

Nicki knows what she is doing? Are you serious? If she did her album would of sold more… She would have more than one single that went number one. Get your nose out of her plastic ass!!!!

    Usher try again boo…

  18. Ron April 26, 2012

For everyone complaining because dis is a dance song, there is a little song he released over 2 months ago called climax, Go listen and shut the hell up

  19. LindseyMari April 26, 2012

He actually sounds a bit reminiscent of Michael Jackson in that 2nd verse though.

  20. vladica07 April 26, 2012

Just like @hunni2nice said, this is a crappier version of Dj got us.Im disappointed.

  21. Tr April 26, 2012

…Eventhough this is ‘Dance'(*sigh), and not the R@B classics we we’re expecting, I actually fancy this tune! Much more rhythmic, and catchy than CB’s song!!

  22. JohnVidal(rip whitney-truegreat) April 26, 2012

At least he can sing and is versatile. I mean yeah he is doing some generic dance music but he is no C. Brown

  23. PUHLEAZE April 26, 2012

Oh puhleaze deaf people, this is very generic. The only thing that saves this s*** is his voice, but other than that, this is very reductive. Revolutionary pop? Huh?

This only shows how biased this site is. When other singers release music like this, they slam it as generic, but when a queen fave does it, it’s enjoyable, blah, blah, blah.

    Deaf & dumb.

  24. Bey Fan April 26, 2012

its ok…..nuttin on climax…. im sure it will get radio spins because the beat sounds like every other beat

  25. Troybenz April 26, 2012

This song is good wow he mad a hit right here

  26. James227 April 26, 2012

NOOOOOOOOOOO USHER THIS S*** IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!

  27. socialstudy1 April 26, 2012

Not bad! I’d play it in my car. 🙂

  28. honeydip April 26, 2012

FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER @HONEY_DIP11 I FOLLOW BACK!

  29. JMO April 26, 2012

Usher is a sell-out. He must’ve forgot who his fans are and what they wanna hear. This is some corny The Wanted/One Direction white boy s***. It’s sadly funny to me that his protege Justin Bieber’s new song is blacker than his own.

  30. SHEENAZ April 26, 2012

    WTF is this pop s***???????????
Usher just gave a middle finger to everybody who bought CONFESSIONS and I guarantee this new album won’t sell as much as that one did.

  31. DMWN April 26, 2012

I can’t believe Sam had the audacity to compare this crap to “Yeah.” This is light years behind that song. Usher lost me with this.

  32. L21480 April 26, 2012

I own every Usher cd from his debut through Versus, but I doubt I will be buying this one. He let the success of OMG go to his damn head and is now dumbing down his music to pander to the Katy Perry/Gaga crowd. Have fun doing that Usher cause you just lost your R&B fan base–you know, the fan base that made you a star.

  33. june April 26, 2012

Usher? Come on man this is a no no….. How many years have you been in this game? I see you and Justin Bieber flip flopped you changed to his white boy pop and he went into your lane with the “urban crowd.”

Where is Justin Timberlake? Mariah and Janet please don’t do what Usher and Madonna did because if you do I won’t be buying. Please don’t sabotage your 22 year career Mariah just to make a “hit”

    Usher remember this?

  34. Was A HUGE FAN April 26, 2012

I’m really getting sick and tired of this music industry!!!! Everything on the damn radio sounds the same, that’s why I don’t listen to it anymore. I love Usher!!!! huge fan, his voice is amazing but he’s doing techno pop dance s***?

You may think its irrelevant for bringing beyonce up BUT I respect her for not taking the “make a quick hit road” for her last album. The only hit she had was “LOVE ON TOP” from 4. But at the end of the day she’s happy with her work. Usher just make music because you love to not for Katy Perry reasons…. You are way too talented for this s***….

TGJ you’re S*** because if it was Rihanna or katy perry you would be calling it generic music.

  35. Mary April 26, 2012

    NO USHER NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  36. umm April 26, 2012

well when you’re black you have to do songs like this to get a crossover audiance. you can’t blame him for doing it because if he didn’t all you would hear from losers like yourself is “he is a flop” “his album flopped”. I would love for Usher to something new but we are obviously in the minority because the sales and charts are still full of dance pop songs.

  37. POP ROYALTY ( THUG LIFE ) April 26, 2012

    I love IT.

COMING FROM A SATISFIED BIG FAN OF USHER.

  38. Dev April 26, 2012

I really used to like user but with this generic dance cr*p he’s just become a faceless singer.

  39. Chris April 26, 2012

Basic dance pop. It’ll give him another Top 10 though. So blaah. He’s sung the song before though…

  40. Dust85 April 26, 2012

If Usher continues to churn out this kind of music, I am going to start questioning his sexuality. This ain’t the sound of a heterosexual male. Especially not a heterosexual BLACK male.

  41. Rocnar April 26, 2012

Why is Sam acting like this mess is hot? This song is terrible! Probably the worse he’s recorded.

U Got It Bad, Burn, U Don’t Have to Call, Burn, You Make Me Wanna, Nice and Slow, You Remind Me, Love In This Club, Confessions = FIRE

    Scream = DRIZZLE.

You can’t manipulate me into buying into this ish.

  42. rob April 26, 2012

sounds like jls im not happy

  43. CzarM April 26, 2012

Urban-dance?! The f*** is “urban” about this s***? “Yeah” and “Caught Up” were examples of ‘urban-dance’… this is vanilla, suburban-y dance/pop crap and has not a single shred of urban appeal. No “urban” hotspot or black radio station would dare play this b*******.

  44. Khloe April 26, 2012

Sounds like everything else on the top 40 right now. Disappointed. =(

  45. Theman April 26, 2012

This i a more rhythmic dance song. It’s not bad at all, people are just tired of hearing this kinda music. Usher is a great artist though.

  46. BCinKS April 26, 2012

Not feeling this at all. Usher, of all people, should know that you can make a record that can play in the clubs without it being this techno/dance music. It is very much DJ Got Us Fallin in Love part 2 and not in a good way.

  47. pete April 26, 2012

I dont care if hes doing this pop s***, if they were good pops it would be fine but they are not. Omg dj got us fallin in love all of dem are s*** generic even justina bieber can do better music than usher now

  48. Dee April 26, 2012

Usher has lost his way. MY Usher of 1997-2004 would NEVER have resorted to this kind of bullcrap pop music.

  49. SBC19 April 26, 2012

Used to be a time when Usher made solid & real music. Now he’s pandering to the LOWEST common denominator with this thump thump crap. Don’t care who gets mad at this, but it ain’t cool for a black man to make “pop” music. When you black, your choices are: R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz, Reggae or Gospel. SOUL music that reps where you from. That corny video game seizure pop s*** is for white folks.

  50. aishaaguilerakeys April 26, 2012

I like, nowthat I hear the full version, still disappointed that he stayed techno, though.

  51. SE April 26, 2012

I’ve always liked Usher and his music..but I’m sorry this song is not it…I loved “Climax” and will continue to listen to that song, but “Scream”…No…Climax was different than anything that’s currently on the radio. To me it had substance in relation to being in a unhappy relationship,it display Usher vocals and emotions along with great melodies etc….. Scream which in my opinion has redundant lyrics…it just feels like it was thrown together just to satisfy the Mainsteam Pop crowd. I grew up with House/Techno music in 80s and 90s more underground…Some had an alternative, urban and dubstep feel. Go to You Tube and check it out …Usher’s Scream to me it’s like DJGUFIL with cheesy, repetive lyrics…it’s just unfortunate that a talented Artist like Usher reduced himself to a watered down dance song..with then same overtly sexual toned lyrics….Scream should of been about a internal feeling of an external mechanism that causes one to “Scream” something more personal like..what makes you scream?…That’s why I loved Adele’s music she went against the grain. Besides maybe “Climax” would went #1 on Hot 100 if all mainstream radio stations played the song…where I live only the R&B stations played “Climax”….However, I did like Without U and More….sorry for the rambling lol….I if Scream had more meaningful lyrics…and the production was different..meaning a little more of a mixture of Techno and Urban, not just Urban but Alternative..I think most fans would of liked it….

  52. JER April 26, 2012

There is nothing Urban about this. Leave it to some queen in the UK to try and say what is Urban. This is POP and will be lucky to get spins on any format, maybe Rhythmic

  53. April 26, 2012

    This is WHACK

  54. Jayla April 26, 2012

This s*** is WACK, but i must agree, artists like Usher & Nicki know to cater to both audiences, they don’t sell big the first week, but they damn sure will over time, look at Nicki first Pink Friday album…. Hate all u want, but these artists stay relevant

  55. VA STAND UP!! April 26, 2012

I don’t like it. It honestly doesn’t even sound like him. I knew he was going to have some pop on the album and I don’t have a problem with that. I mean, lets be honest if Usher wants to continue to be successful he is going to have to appeal to mainstream radio, r&b ain’t selling like that these days. However, I was looking forward to this new ‘revolutionary pop’ sound he said he was coming up with. This isn’t revolutionary, this is basic! It sounds like everything else on the radio. Wouldn’t be surprised if its a hit but this is far from spetacular! SMH.

Usher is a veteran in the game and he really needs to come harder than this. ‘Climax’ is a hit but only on the r&b charts. We still have to hear that record with Rick Ross but I doubt either of those records will carry the album. This was a weak follow up to an incredible record like ‘Climax’.

Oh well, still looking forward to his new album though. I just hope that it is MAJORITY r&b because I think we all can agree that’s where he shines best.

  56. FireIce April 26, 2012

Well good luck with the dance crap Usher. Hope others buy it cause I sure won’t. Only a FOOL alienates the core fan base that supported them to fame by jumping on another bandwagon for a quick hit. Yeah you might get it, but at what cost? You lose your original, long time, devoted fans that were there from the beginning and always anticipated you…and in the meantime you don’t make any real new ones. Those 12-24 year old white folks he’s chasing after with this junk ain’t gonna support his CAREER. They might support the SONG, but they won’t support HIM. He’s not gonna compete with Katy and his boy Bieber in their eyes. They’re not gonna buy tickets to his concerts. They’re not gonna buy magazines that he covers. They’re not gonna even buy his album. They’re gonna just buy the lil $1.29 single from iTunes and be done. And when the song plays out they will have forgotten him and won’t be anticipating the next one the way his REAL fans would. This is a merry-go-round he’s setting himself up for. He’s always gonna be chasing after them with more pandering s***, they’ll never chase after him the way his established (black/R&B) fans have. But if he keeps up this pop s***, he’ll lose them. And what will he have left? Nothing.

    He’ll learn…the hard way.

  57. Lovah April 27, 2012

Sam is s*** & so is this review & the song.

  58. R. April 30, 2012

Usher did not curse anyone for buying his album “CONFESSIONS”. And he is doing a great job, IF U GOT NOTHING NICE 2 say, then DON’T SAY. USHER IS A MIGHTY veteran and the KING of R&B. No one can ever replace him.

Besides it’s the industry’s fault that all they want is dance music and that’s what Usher needs 2 succeed too.
