It’s easy for Lana Del Rey detractors to write her off as a manufactured Pop star without a genuinely talented bone in her body–mainly due to her horrendous live debut on ‘SNL’ earlier this year.

However, after listening to ‘Born To Die’ anyone with an ear for music and appreciation for dynamic songwriting have accepted Lana Del Rey as a misunderstood savant of grand, orchestral Pop and a premium lyricist. ‘Born To Die’ finds Dey Rey using her infamous Contralto over dark, angst filled productions creating some of the best atmospheric Pop music since Norah Jones‘ Grammy Award-winning LP ‘Come Away With Me’ (2002).

Watch the 25 year old songstress perform the bulk of her album for fans at a Jazz Cafe in London Town after the jump and sound-off below.

‘Born To Die’

‘Blue Jeans’

‘Video Games’

‘Radio’

‘Summertime Sadness’

‘Carmen’

‘Without You’

‘Million Dollar Man’

Any fears of whether or not Lana would be able to translate the studio album versions of her songs into a marketable live showcase have been put to rest. The ‘Video Games’ singer gave the audience a memorable show and proved her worth as a live singer.

Our only criticism would be the absence of live backing singers. Many of Del Rey’s songs contain heavy layering, double tracking on the vocals, and/or overlays that it becomes quite difficult to reproduce them in a live setting with only one solo vocalist. The implementation of background singers would allow for more breathing room between each line and alleviate some of the heavy [vocal] lifting from the headliner.

Terrific improvement.

Got the album, wasn’t impressed! The beats are better than the songs and the moment someone samples them they’ll be put to good use. I’m not sure how hard singing like this really is? I’d be impressed with a bit more range

Yeah she sounds much better here than on SNL. Her label must have made her put in a little more work. And she absolutely needs some background vocalist if she ever wants her live vocal richness to match her CD. I think about that EVERY TIME I listen to Born to die. Lana loves that echo effect on her mic!

She killed her career .. she statement ‘ I’m a studio artist, people should not expect much in live shows’ + SNL performance ended up her hype!
WELL, she’s honest, if Gaga was honest like her .. her career was ended TWO YEARS AGO!!!

She stays nervous because her voice and style is f****** shame. Like the poster said above, she killed her own buzz. The UK may buy that stir fried s***, but the U.S. is already over her.
