They may have gone ghost from Pop charts, but still the girl groups of yesterday have provided an irreplaceable soundtrack to most of our lives by ushering in decades of hits. The absence of such would unquestionably place a void on modern Pop music. As emphasized by a previous precis, while charts lay devoid of a diva syndicate, the offerings of The Supremes, Destiny’s Child, and TLC are just a burning reminder of a time when girls really did run the world.
So, in an effort to pay homage and also remind future successors of the big stilettos they have to fill, That Grape Juice has compiled a list of the greatest girl groups to ever grace a stage. And, in constant quest of the thoughts of you – TGJ faithful – we’ve once against requested your input on the matter.
Who’s the greatest girl group to ever it? Was it the sass and class of DC3 or the harmony of En Vogue? The classic style of The Supremes or the crazy, sexy, cool combo of TLC?

Danity Kane does deserve to be on the list. They were a record breaking platinum selling group. Granted they didn’t have the longevity the other groups had due to Diddy’s arrogance. But in other news Destiny’s Child is straight up slaying every girl group on here. Beyonce alone SLAYSSSSS. Kelly solo be putting in WORK! Michelle be doing her THANG. Put the three together and there aren’t even words to describe their epicness.

I’m a fan of most of the girls on the list.
-Supremes- Diana Ross …….
-Envogue- The only true girl group on this list. They could all equally sing, whether you had a favorite, they were all lead singers. In their videos, they all equally got the same spotlight.
-TLC- The most unique
-SWV- Coko the ONLY voice in the group.
-Spice Girls- I knew they wouldn’t last.
-Destiny’s Child- Beyonce sang both the lead and background vocals- Even in live performances, Kelly and Michelle appeared to be lip synching background vocals. They could have easily shared leads on the majority of the songs.
-Pussycat Doll- I never considered them a real group. It was Nicole and back up dancers, with the black girl yelling in the background.
-Danity Kane- they ended before they started, but I liked some of their music. I only liked Dawn.

Just because you are the best selling, doesn’t make you the best. Spice Girls first album sold over 26 million records. Nobody is checking for them anymore. So leave record sales out of it.
Some of the groups on the list (SWV and Envogue) weren’t as crossover (Pop) like Beyonce and Stepkids, TLC, and PussyCat Dolls, but vocally they were better.

Yes, the age of the readers is apparently by the voting. DC had some hot songs and did turn bootylicious into an actual word, but they were not most influential. I’d say TLC and I wasn’t even a fan of them really.

I beleive Destinys child was good but they should come back with all five members Letoya Beyonce Michelle Latavia Kelly that would be worth seeing. With DC4 &3 It was like more so of Beyonce a lot even though DC4 had some good ass harmonies that never got to be flourished due to the ultimate demise and DC3 evn though every one got a verse it seemed like B was stil pushed to the forefront. Now that Beyonce has the solo career her team wanted i think if they should all get back together there is a need 2 share equal vocals, background and leads, dances, cool outfits tina’s outfits werent that bad they helped the group stick out, and unique individuality frm each should be freely expressed on stage since we have got to know all the memebers individually. Also with tight choerography because all of them can dance and perform their assess off but they would need to be respectful of eachother strenghts and weaknesses for it to work becasue they are all dope women. my two piece

WORLD WIDE, the spice girls have sold 75 million records, more than any girl group ever. their debut album Spice sold 28 million worldwide, the highest selling girl group cd ever. and their album spiceworld is the 2nd highest selling girl group cd ever.

En vogue is so overrated its crazy.
Vocally live they only brought it a couple of times…brownstone and Labelle would sing them under the table.
The Supremes are far from the blueprint there were girl groups way before them. TLC were great and so were the spice girls but I didn’t listen to them for vocals.
Destiny’s child was the last real group.
DC3′s destiny’s fulfilled era vocal performances live and studio>Envogue anything. That’s why Luther kicked them off his tour or wanted to they wanted to lip sync their vocals.
brownstone&labelle>every other girl group.
The shade is you ppl claim to know anything but the Andrew sister’s are really the best selling group of all time with the most #1′s.
Billboard and RIAA just wont acknowledge artist who predates them.

I love all these groups, but TLC deserves this, they were soo vibrant and it looked like they always had fun and truly loved each other.

Most of these girl groups were great, En Vogue, TLC, SWV, Destiny’s Child but I have to be honest and say I know more songs from DC ‘s discography as they were the girl group I grew up listening to in the late 90′s through out the 00′s, I could include The Spice Girls to that list also but they were not known to be great vocalist, more for girl power and I was just far to young anyway around the Spice years, as you grow up your taste gets better and they are not on the same level as the other girl groups I mentioned, what lead the way in terms of talent and Influential, shit over Spice Girls and their kid bubble gum pop music aimed for the under 10′s.
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite but My heart loves Destiny Child, I think most people out of all the girl groups on the voting poll, would love Destiny’s Child to reform, they were amazing and the last girl group other then the Pussycat Dolls to make an global impact for girl groups, who made great music and they were for female empowerment, you got to love them for that, even some of Beyonce’s best songs have been when she was part of DC.

This is a really interesting topic because obviously everyone has their favorite girl group for different reasons. For me -
TLC was cool because each girl had her own individual flavor, which made for really exciting music with their 1st three albums;
The Spice Girls were rowdy party girls who burned out really quickly but had some pretty good dance music for a couple of years;
Everyone in EnVogue was a capable singer and you actually got to hear each of the ladies
Destiny’s Child was mainly Beyonce. Actually they are my favorite out of this list but let’s be honest, there really wasn’t any equality in the group. Beyonce succeeded as a solo artist because her sound remained true to what she established while in DC. If they were to get back together it wouldn’t really be a comeback as much as it would be a return to form.

Destiny`s Child – 4 Albums, 1 xmas album, 1 remix album and 1 Greatest Hits (were around for 8 years)
TLC – 4 Albums and 1 Greatest Hits (were around for 11 years)

I think a lot of people commenting are very young. Danity Kane?? I don’t think they deserve an honorable mention. They only had 1 or 2 hits. “we in the car. We ride slow..” and something about “my heart is damaged.”
And I love Destinys Child, but they will never be the GROUP that TLC were to me. Destiny had an amazing run, but let’s be honest. The group was really about Beyonce. You could replace any of the other girls, as was done more than once, and half the targeted audience wouldn’t notice a thing. Take beyonce out and there would have been no Destinys child. That’s just my opinion. She WAS the group. Whereas in TLC each and every member were equally important to the group. They didn’t have the vocals of DC or En Vouge, but they had that personality and sass that was just magic when they made a track, video or performance.
And not that it matters who is the best selling, but I don’t think DC is the best selling of all time. You cannot count solo projects as part of the group’s sales.

The age of the average viewer of this site really doesnt matter. Best girl group no contest is Destiny’s Child. They’ve done the most, they’ve done the best at it and every line up was full of talent. Not like the 2 singers and backing dancers of Pussycat Dolls etc.
Its a shame cause TLC probably had potential to have been the best girl group cause Left Eye game them that extra flair that no other groups had/got. Plus their music was great but it’s like the Biggie, Jay-Z argument. Jay has proved again and again where as Biggie only had a chance to prove himself twice.

You know most these people are only going for DC because they stand hard for Bey.
A lot of them don’t even have a clue about the Supremes, nor En Vogue. Possibly not even TLC.
TLC were the best, and most influential girl group of the 90′s. Their music was deep, and you could feel it when they sang.
DC could never.
By the way, songs like Waterfalls, Creep, Red Light Special, No Scubs, Unpretty, etc owns every song in DC’s catalog.
The Supremes is possibly the greatest female group of all time. Hands down.
There were so many kick ass female grouos from the 50′s, and 60′s.
En Vogue was the female group with the best harmonizing. All of them black women could saaaang.

TLC was cool….but how yall gon say it was all about Beyonce in DC but not say it was all about T-boz in TLC….. she sang most of the verses, chilli would get the bridge or the chorus, and Left Eye (my fav) would rap when a rap part was on the song.
Still not sure if Left Eye could actually sing. I know for a fact she lipped a few performances.
I love TLC, but lets be fair.

Battleship’ Goes To War Overseas: #1 Almost Every Country Where It Opened
It was an unorthodox, even daring, strategy for Universal to open Battleship internationally more than a month before it debuts May 18th in North America. But it may pay off. My sources project the film should steam past $300M foreign box office based on stats. Also, as the film prepares to open internationally Friday in a total 26 territories (40 countries) and then rolls to another 24 territories including big guns Russia and China, any fears that a rah-rah-USA patriotic film in 2D might not do well overseas have been allayed.
– The movie opened in Australia today and Battleship is #1 with an early estimate of $1.1M for the day, which is at the same level as Iron Man and Thor and twice as big as John Carter, and three times as big as Wrath Of The Titans
– In Southeast Asia, where extravagant sci-fi appeals to local audiences, Battleship is “dominating the box office with Korea leading the pack,” I’m told. Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand also had a very strong showing. In each of those countries, Batttleship opened to #1.
– In Korea, Battleship opened to $2.8M – the third biggest opening day of all time for an English language film. That’s behind only Transformers 3 and Shrek 3 even though Battleship is an original film which usually takes longer to gain traction overseas than sequels. It’s also the biggest opening for an English language non-sequel in Korea ever.
– Preview results in the UK were very strong. Battleship grossed $1.5M (£928K) for the day. As a comp, previews for Thor in the UK were £730K and Iron Man £670K. There’s another day of previews today before opening officially on Friday.

well first I think theres no point of comparison between these groups, the only one could be that most of them (excluding swv and danity kane) are famous worldwide .each of them done their thing in their own time ,they are not even the same genres
for example the supremes were out in the 60´s and they were pop & soul going trough doowoop and disco (and other styles) they had 24 singles in the top 10 but it focused mainly in ms.diana ross tough there was a lot of replacements but the only one that lasted long in the group was Mary wilson, anyways their music its timeless
the one that could be similar to them its destinys child (the most popular among the younger generations because of the agegap) because it was focused mainly on beyonce ,Dc was really the vehicle to put her on the limelight ,the vocals relied mainly on her and kelly ,and after some replacements it was not till destiny fullfilled that the 3 members shared equally vocals and creative control, they didn´t harmonize or blend together like tlc or envogue,michelle its very weak vocally ,if you check their performances (live at Jam in the Park 2001 or their live at atlanta dvd) she was trying to oversing like beyonce with very bad results(she doesnt have the voice) so dc really was beyonce and kelly ,and tough their writings on the wall was more succesful in the usa their worldwide hit was the survivor cd ,one thing I don´t like about dc its that they were always contradicting themselves musically, they were singing nasty girl and then throwing at you bootylicious (same as beyonce as solo artist)and really their lyrics are not that impressive and timeless ,I was a young guy when I heard bugaboo or bills bills or bootylicious ,now I hear those songs and I cannot even stand hearing them or singing them they are just nonsense to me ,and classy they were not, they always lacked class and style they always seem to me like they were about to dance on some strip pole ,so in the quality and classy department they really cannot be compared with the suprmes
SWV was out at the time of TLC their huge succes was its about time that sampled michael jackson in some of their songs the new beginning came only hiiting the gold mark and then release some tension ,tough new beginning its better than release,release hit platinum ,but same thing vocals were relied on Coko and even when the other two girls could sing it was coko most of the time
but out of the music they were not eye appealing ,they were bland ,they didn´t had a personality and attitude like the members of tlc or en vogue
my favorites of the r&b wagon its ENVOGUE and TLC ,you have two groups with different members all of them supertalented with different personalities,all of them complementing the group being part of it ,all of them bringing the flavor and succes to their groups, none of them could be replaced like the other girl bands (if not look what happened to en vogue when they replaced members or when left passed away) their music its really original it was ahead of the time ,and even when they might have a little musical dissapointment on their recordings ,their music haves real quality , lyrics so meaningful that its just just timeless,,they cannot be compared wit the rest of the groups ,lets say that in the R&b /SOUL category theres the supremes ,en vogue and tlc period
TLC were really the ones that started the female group revolution ,they were R&B, hip-hop, soul, funk, and new jack swing when they started and they were like their own album name CRAZY SEXY COOL ,you have 3 girls that blend together like water ,,just have to watch their fan mail tour or live performances to know what I am talking about ,those girls didn´t need playback was al live singing dancing ,just love them,they were really encouraging females but not in a bad way not in a feministic and silly way ,they were enough women to hang with the boys too
EN VOGUE when they came out they were a big hit on the dance scene too ,in europe and worldwide they were the thing ,their debut album and funky divas were big worldwide you can watch till these days the four original members and they really got it going on they can sing pop ,rock ,r& b ,dance,doo woop you just name it till these day you look at them and they are still flawless they are really the epitome of classines and talent ,you can watch her live performances and they are real talent plus they were hot without being vulgar ,they were not the tits and ass girls that seemed out of a striphole ,till these day they dont miss a note ,they also complement each other like water ,so bad they still have problems trying to sign a good record contract ,but I really look look forward for another en vogue album ,same with tlc but its very difficult without lisa ,anyways tboz and chilli can bring something out it will be nice
as for the SPICE GIRLS they are the biggest girl group act worldwide (till these day) how you cannot love them, even when the music its a little bit cheesy its still fun to watch their videos ,their music its still fun to hear and dance, it brings you a lot of positive vibe they didn´t have violent lyrics negative or sexual stuff going on ,they were sexy and cool without being slutty,they were colorful ,same as tlc they had an edgy look and feeling to them,and even when they didn´t had the biggest vocals they were the right choice for the spice girls ,there couln´t be SG without geri,victoria,mel b& c and emma ,they were just cool and lovely ,the right choice for your teenagers to hear,check their spice world tour and you can see why their succes
PCD I also like them but they really never hit their full potential ,it would be great if all the girls were given same opportunities as nicole ,they were more like a coreoghrapic group since the lead was nicole and honestly without being disrespectful they cannot be compared to the ladies above ,even when all of them are great dancers ,they don´t have the vocal abilities (of all of the above) vocally they never blend and nic sometimes was oversinging,even with that they have good singles.
as for danity kane I don´t even remember what does ladies sang ,they had medium succes only in usa and uk but that was it ,if you have to put memorable acts I will prefer all saints ,atomic kitten ,even girls aloud were more known world wide than danity kane

If it comes down to vocals EN vogue will be the best femal group…& it not going to make since in posting this post cause of course Destiny Child going to be the winner cause of most of the people will not get past Destiny Child era, it will not be a fair judgment. I would say every girl group made there impact except for Danity Kane…WHEn Destiny child came into the picture there was no female groups in the music industry…En Vogue had an impact, SWv was did justice, TLC did greater justice for female groups & pave the way for Destiny child

There are girl groups and then there is TLC. TLC landslides these other groups by miles. TLC is the greatest girl group and named the most successful female act in american history by the R.I.A.A. Till this day you can turn on the radio and hear Classic TLC song playing. TLC was the first female group that you actually cared about all the members.
The Supremes has Diana, Destiny’s Child has Beyonce…and Live no girl group can out perform them (just see TLC 95 MTV Video Music awards….nuff said)

This was interesting but def a strange comparison, most of these groups are from different eras, genres, etc…4 part harmonies vs. 3. So it’s hard to compare. I would say En Vogue was my fav all around, and of course TLC. While I respect DC for what it was the singles were better than the whole albums (don’t kill me). Anyway, all of them were good for what they were/are BUT it depends on who/what site you post this site on. Some (or MOST) will choose DC, “old school” will go for TLC/En Vogue/SWV, older school The Supremes, pop-centered Spice Girls, etc. So, congrats to all the groups…but my choices are made on TIMELESS music, but then again, I’m a true 80s baby…so of course I also have my bias

DC3 all day I say that b/c with all the issues that they have had they still manage to create a powerful group and also are one group that can honestly say that we have sold millions together manger to break way all have number one singles and albums then come back as a group n kill it again that group really consisted of three individual stars from pop to R&B to gospel what ever you want u can find it in DC3 its been 8 years since them girls did a record together n the eagerness for them to get back together is like they disbanded yesterday u can never get enough of true entertainment!

Well grew up listening to all my moms old albums. I’m glad the supremes are on here. They are the MOST influential. They were the 1st to be a megastar girl group. Another couple of groups from momma’s collection that were HUGE and influential are THE POINTER SISTERS (probably biggest GG of the early to mid 80′s)and BANANNARAMA(I believe the GG with the most entries on the BB tally till this day!).
That’s why this kind of poll does have to do with age. Most of y’all don’t even think about groups like that, because of your age. But they were/are very much influences on most of y’all faves.
So many GG that deserve to be on here, but are not thought of. Danity Kane… Really…. And some of y’all should learn that DC was good, but if they win any of these categories that’s you staning, not based on facts..

Good’knight,youre right thats what I was saying its silly to try to compare or even choose one girl group because there have been so many in different genres that its impossible to count them ,at the same time of bananarama there were the bangles and there were also uk go gos ,and little before en vogue there was expose their were succesful in the 80´s ,there were the cover girls,salt & pepa and as I said theres plenty more ,there were also wilson phillips till these days they appear as one of the groups that were succesful worldwide ,and I can go on and the list will be huge ,so this as the nicky and rihanna posts its just based on the musical tastes of the one that writes it ,and obviously it haves to do with age ,even when I am young I like to hear other kind of music and groups of all generations it gives you more perspective of the musical scene ..

I agree with you on all you’ve written. I grew up like you curious and wanting to hear and experience different things. Luckily, I had a family with eclectic tastes in music. It opens up your mind to not listen to the same 5 artist, in a constant loop everyday! Lol!

While Destiny’s Child had beautiful harmony together, I’d have to give that spot to En Vogue. Hands down! Those girls harmony was crazy! As far as the most influential, I’d have to say TLC. Destiny’s Child had the whole “glamour” thing going on. And, we’ve seen girl groups before them doing the whole “glamour” thing such as, The Supremes, En Vogue, etc. But, what made TLC stand out, was the fact that they were females, yet they had a “tomboy” look to their image. They were like the female, “BBD” of their time. What other girl groups did you know of that can be sexy, yet have a tomboyishness to their image?

Im only 19 and i can honestly say that all of the old school groups hold it down! TLC were and still is the most influential! En vogue will slay the shit out of DC3 in harmonizing. I like dc3 and wish they were together again but dont say they were the best just because either 1. Yall are beyonce stans or 2. You were born into their era and grew up on them! I may be young but i grew up on old school!

of course everyone who has or will comment on this post will probably say destinys child/DC3 but in repect for TLC will utimately choose them…thats the era where we grow up with this particular group…we were too young for en vogue (although we know who they are), spice girls came and went (love them). TLC I would say paved the way for DC3 but once again..dc3 fully captured our hearts and coins,they had the moves, the lyrics, the looks, the drive, mainly the sound that left an mark in the history of girl/boy bands. I know I loved some TLC but I STANNED for DC3.

Okay this is cazy! @SAM/TGJ you should not have included The Supremes. To be honest they BIRTHED everyone else on this list….EVERYONE! With that said, ppl like Beyonce so they are going to vote everything Destiny’s Child however, it was EN VOGUE who directly birthed Destiny’s Child! But not for their style, harmony etc Destiny’s Child would not have had a blue print to follow. TLC Is SLAYING = All three girls were equally important, all three girls were equally beautiful, all three girls were equally as talented AND YET so different. On top of that their music is TIMELESS.
DC3= How many of you can stan for Kelly and Michelle as much as you do for Beyonce?, DC was always and forever will be about Bey, a great group is a GROUP of people that are better with each other, Beyonce slays without DC3, just as Diana Ross did with the Supremes.
SWE & En Vogue= Didn’t have the same Pop culture influence TLC ,DC3 or the Spice Girls did unfortunately. Beautiful harmonies but are more Rnb legends than anything else,
PUSSYCAT DOLLS/DANITY KANE = No way, can’t even be on that list. Not yet.
SPICE GIRLS = Possibly the greatest of all time, but they came and went like a fad, a MASSIVE fad but unlike the beatles their catalogue wont be remembered as much as their short burst of uber fame.
END RESULT = TLC IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME.

It’s good that we are all opinionated, but…
As much as I respect some of your loyalty to these groups, WHAT ANY FAN OR STAN SAY NOW IS IRRELEVANT IN THIS DAY AND AGE. Majority of the female groups listed made their impact, paid their dues and cemented their legacies during a time where things were actually wholesome in the music industry all around (Pre- Y2K or Pre–2005). So this list AND THIS BLOG THAT CREATES THESE TIRED ASS SUBJECTS TO PROVE THEIR RELEVANCE is getting stale.
Here’s a fact for you all, TLC, one of music’s biggest top selling female act ever, accomplished a bit more than En Vouge, but TLC’s Chilli stated that she was fan of EV. When she audition for TLC (incidentally) she sung “Hold On” for LA Reid and Pebbles. One impact another and BOTH acts were lighting in a jar.
No group is really “the best” all around. What I’m saying is, celebrate ALL of them listed for their accomplishments and body of work because YOUR favorites wouldn’t make it far without THEIR favorites, That’s a fact. Show some respect. Goodnight Everybody!!! (Yakko voice)

Im 24yrs old and I notice that one girl group is always left out of these type of list , I have a wide range in musical taste … The Pointer Sisters always left out .. You guys really need to check. There record out ( first female.group to get major endorsements (including Diet Coke) first females period let alone girl band on heavy rotation on MTV. And give a listen to early 70′s music harmonies hard to beat.. Look up the songs “Sugar, black coffee, and steam heat just name a few

En Vogue is definitely the group that picked up the torch from the Supremes and carried it forward. Their harmony, style and class set the stage for groups to build from for the future. They brought the glamour and a message with every song that made them strong yet vulnerable, caring yet demanding as women. They were amazing.
DC picked it up from there and TLC held it down and took it in a different direction with much success in between and during En Vogue’s height. Much respect to those that laid the foundation…

The kids voting for TLC vocal wise need their ears checked. En Vogue had the best harmonies IMO bc they did not have a weak link period. The Supremes have the best discography (their music including countless Pop and R&B hits broke boundaries and were timeless classics that helped define the best era in music–the Motown era). En Vogue had the best live performances, a lot of great classic R&B songs and were the best GROUP overall IMO (and that’s coming from a huge Beyonce fan). With EV it was about the whole group and all four were strong vocalists in their own right. DC was aka Beyonce and them and The Supremes was mostly showcasing Diana though I dont know if she had the strongest voice. SWV really stands for Sista With a Voice and none of the members of TLC were strong vocalists IMO though they had a few catchy tunes. So I would give the title to the funky divas, En Vogue. (The others are not worth mentioning IMO and I don’t know or hardly care about who had the best fashion).

The polls are so flawed. How can TLC be winning in the Best Harmony category when they never even harmonized? Anyway, I would have to say Destiny’s Child is my favorite group because they went through a lot and came out on top and had just as much pop appeal as they did urban appeal. Then again, I think I’m biased because I sort of grew up listening to them and witnessed them blast into superstardom. I wish I was the age I am now living in the early 90′s so I could’ve seen En Vogue, SWV and TLC at the early stages of their careers because all these girl groups have quite an extensive back catalogue of hits. I wish there were more girl groups out now. Where did Richgirl, Electrik Red, and Cherish go!?!?!?

Honestly this has to got to be the most foolish topic yet. First off, how the hell you put The Supremes in the same category as these other groups. Yes they all broke records or are famous for something, yet and still The Ultimate Legendary Female Group of all time will always be The Supremes. A group of 3 beautiful classy women who were known for poise, vocals, fashion, and breaking records. Not to mention the reason why any of these other female groups saw the light of day. The Supremes were performing on shows that only allowed all white audiences. Some of yal need to do your history because at one point in time… every single last one of the other females groups listed all got together with the dream and idolization of being The Supremes.

I agree with ImageShane. It’s hard including a group from the 1960′s when all the other groups are about 40-50 years more current. I guess it speaks for itself though. The Supremes were really the FIRST successful group who kind of set the standard for all the girl groups that came after. The Supremes are legends. I took a music history course at college a few years ago and we focused on the Supremes for two weeks straight. They have some good songs.

Everyone knows the Spice Girls are the biggest and best girl group of all time.
They’re like the least talented of all the nominees (DK is sort of below them in that department but they don’t belong there anyway… neither do PCD) but they revolutionized Pop back in their day.
This should’ve just been like a new gen of groups though. The Supremes are in a different league.

TLC lead the way for me, hands down in all categories. Their originality & edge set them apart from other groups. All their voices blend so well together, especially in songs like Red Light Special and Unpretty.
As well as making great music, their songs also had meaning, add to that great live energy performances & PERSONALITY -everyone can relate to each member at least. They are real & speak their mind, even to this day & still make great music now.
These ladies made me appreciate Hip Hop/ R&B music on a whole new level..other groups who deserve a shout out include En Vogue, Supremes (classy R&b vocals) Spice Girls (their tunes were catchy & broke a number of record sales) SWV (original 90′s New Jack Swing harmony group) Also worth noting are underrated female groups like: Brownstone, Total, Xscape, Changing Faces, Kut Klose, Jade)
DC also I can’t deny had A LOT of catchy tunes, but found Beyonce too overpowering every time, for them to shine as a group. But they sure can sing individually & hold their own…just my opinion but NOBODY can knock TLC (still haven’t got over how DC got their Hollywood Walk of Fame star first…its time for TLC to get their respect after 20 years!!) TLC4EVA NO.1

NONE of the members of TLC could really sing. That’s why THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO WIN! Their live vocal performances were worse than Rihanna or Katy Perry, much worse. How can you guys vote for a group that didn’t have at least one strong vocalist? Vocally it should go to En Vogue due to their harmonies and vocal capabiities of each member but overall, it should go to the Supremes for paving the way, setting the standard and having the most significant discography. DC would be in third place IMO.

Destiny’s Child will win most of these categories by default. Always was a fan, and always will be a fan. But the truth is they don’t deserve some of these titles. Harmonies, on occasion their style…maybe. To call them the most influential? No. Any genius knows that Spice Girls paved the way for many things are far as female empowerment, individuality, as well as many other things. As far as who we’d love to see get back together…ANY of them deserve that title. But TLC takes the cake on that one. Even with Left Eye’s passing (may she rest in peace), we’d still appreciate a T-Boz and Chilli duet.

What about Xscape, SWV, 702, jones girls ? I don’t think should be just about sales and popularity there are many groups that were fantastic vocally but for whatever reasons were not successful. To be honest I don’t think Destinys Child were a great group vocally, the focus was too much on beyonce and although she can sing her tone isn’t that unique.

Destiny’s Child was a platform for Beyonce, cuz in 94/95, she tried to get signed as a solo artist but failed.
As for who is the best female group, Spice Girls might have sold more, but they weren’t as vocally talented as DC. As for TLC, they had better music and lyrics than DC, but were no match for DC vocally. But they were more unique than DC, and Chilli had a sweet and nice voice. T-Boz had a deep voice. DC, TLC and Spice Girls were all from the 90′s era. TLC was more influential than DC, and DC even served as opening acts for TLC, saleswise TLC sold more, though I’m not sure TLC outsold Spice Girls and vice versa. Besides, Sales doesn’t always mean talent. Spice Girls wasn’t as talented as the rest

TLC has to be the most influential of girl groups that debuted in the 90′s, simply becuz they were more unique in their lineup, their songs had more depth in lyrical content. Between TLC , DC and SG, TLC had more class in terms of fashion of videos. “Waterfalls” music video is one of the most iconic ones ever. Vocally, TLC wasn’t as gifted as Destiny’s Child, but there discography and production was better than DC’s. As for Spice Girls, they weren’t as talented vocally as DC….in terms of dancing, Spice Girls wasn’t as good as TLC. TLC’s legacy still lives on. “Turntable”, “Unpretty” and “Waterfalls” are my all time favorites from TLC

TLC are a group who deserve all the praise on here, there has, or never will be a group like TLC…who don’t go by the rules & follow trends.
T-Boz, Left Eye & Chilli have always made music that matters (which is timeless) and yes they are a global phenomenon. Who in the world hasn’t heard ‘Waterfalls’ and ‘No Scrubs’ .i’m sure a lot of groups listed here aren’t known all over the globe like TLC are. Even huge in Japan as I saw them live their in 2009!!
There are many groups (including Spice Girls & DC3) who have said they aspired to be like TLC, who are their role models in music. Now in 2012 they are Icons to this new generation.
Tionne may not have the high notes Beyonce & En Vogue have, but she does have a smooth distinctive voice, plus match that with Rozonda’s soulful vocals & Lisa’s catchy raps, it makes the ultimate match in a Hip/HopR&B group.
For those who say TLC can’t sing live, think again as they can hold their own. Just look on You Tube & you’ll find performances which will change your mind. They sure get a crowd going too. Check out their Famnail tour , it’s pure entertainment. No slack, when they hit the stage!! They give all to their fans and are so in touch & appreciative.They aren’t ashamed to answer our Tweets/emails (unkike many artists out there)

Okay… Destinys Child DOES NOT Deserve as much credit as ya’ll are giving them. They started off as 4 members and the only one you heard was Beyonce. So they started off like Diana Ross AND the Supremes. It shouldve been Beyonce and Destinys CHild. To say they are the best at harmonizing? BS! En Vogue gets that hands down. The most influential group is the blueprint. The Supremes.! The name says it all. Wyclef coined DC with the young supremes in 1997. Most originality is by far TLC. Best vocals is by far EnVogue. EnVogue is good at everything. Style,vocal, appearance, and stage presence was the least of their worries. SWV is just a good girl group that will always be remembered for good songs and realness.

Destiny’s Child is the best female group ever. They are the ONLY group in history to have 4 members have solo success outside of the group.
Bey, Kelly, LeToya, and Michelle have all slayed the scene when will the other the other girl groups?

They slay in every category for me.
I would love to see them get back together. T Boz and Chili still have plenty of amazing music left in them. I think they would slide right into the top 40 mix today. Chili has a voice with a universal appeal and T Boz is so unique that it makes you listen.

Aubrey is not responsible for Danity Kane’s breakup. Diddy and his ego is. Aubrey was being individualized because she, unlike the others, had an infectious personality that grabbed attention. She was becoming bigger than the group, and bigger than Diddy in the sense that the media loved her. He didn’t like that, felt threatened, and wouldn’t stand for a woman who stood for herself. So he dispelled her.

It’s obvious that since this is an urban blog Destiny’s Child or TLC will come out on top but if we are dealing with cold hard facts Spice Girls deserve to win Best Fashion (it was iconic) and Most influential (they were a phenomenon) and the biggest selling female group EVER.
Not taking away from DC or anybody else especially on the vocal front but bobody was bigger and more influential than SG at their time and those Dereon outfits were AWFUL lol

En Vogue should have best fashion/Harmonies in the bag. There is no other Girl group who could touch their sound or Look. Sorry !!! DC/TLC should split everything else except most influential because love them or hate them the Spice girls were a Global phenomenon and did more in three years than most girls groups do in their entire career. They are also the biggest selling girl group in history. Can’t hate on FACTS !!!

if feel like alot of this question is apples and oranges. every group can’t be judged on the same thing. i feel like danity kane is the most well rounded point blank. their albums had no filler tracks, they sang live, every girl was talented, and they could perform like nobody’s buisness. but they are by no means memorable. most ppl are like “danity who?” the spice girls are super memorable but had zero talent. i remember their song played non stop on th radio 24/7. they were successful, but how do you compare them to the supremes? the pussycat dolls were all actually talented but just never got to showcase it. so alot of it is about getting more farmiliar with groups you know nothing about. and not comparing the supremes or la belle to tlc or en vouge to destiny’s child or spice girls to danity kane or pussycat dolls. apples and oranges. but overall i choose dk in most categories. they were the whole package. they just had messed up circumstances and hadn’t reached their peak.

let it be known that the Spice Girls are the BEST selling female group of ALL TIME. That says a lot. People like to downplay their talent but at the end of the day they WROTE thier hits, sang and danced, changed the face of pop culture, and shared vocal responsibility amongst ALL members.
The shade to these 5 trendsetters is upsetting and I don’t know why they’re a joke to some people. The Spice Girls were a movement.

I think that all these groups are legendary and all served a purpose in the music industry ..But if you want to get technical about it I think each group had one or 2 members that sang better and brought the harmony together..I am a DANITY KANE fan 4 life and I feel that there harmony outshined half of this list of girl groups by far.Not 1 but all 5 had amazing harmony and yes although they did not last long, If they would have had the right management I bet they would have surpass many of these artist everyone seems to be fighting for.Just my opinion THANKSSSSW
