It goes without saying that we love our divas we do here at That Grape Juice. So imagine our excitement when 2008 brought with it the ‘Artists Stand Up to Cancer’ project and its larger-than-life line up.
Helmed by the legendary combo of L.A. Reid and Babyface, ‘Just Stand Up!’ was released released in August 2008 as part of the ‘Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C)’ charity / cancer research campaign. Fronted by somewhat of a “super-group”, consisting of Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Natasha Bedingfield, Miley Cyrus, Leona Lewis, Carrie Underwood, Keyshia Cole, LeAnn Rimes, Ashanti and Ciara; this project was many a fan’s dream come true… or worst nightmare.
The single achieved moderate success in the US where it peaked at the 11th position of the Billboard Hot 100 and was also popular in Canada where it reached at #10 on the official charts. It was a Top 40 hit in the UK (#26) and in Australia (#39)
Following the initial buzz of the recorded track, the featured artists assembled to perform the cut live during the ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ TV special; a huge feat in itself given the schedules of the largely A-list line-up. And while Etheridge, Crow and Rimes couldn’t hit the stage, the stars (who were joined by replacement Nicole Scherzinger) put on quite the show.
While staged for an amazing cause, any such showing, naturally, calls for comparison. We’re sure you know we feel nailed it vs those who sounded like they were gargling concrete; but we want to know what you think:

She didn’t even go into a five octave range….She stayed at that same old busted ass bass she tries to do. She did go up into…uh..something…but wavered off so fast you could barely even hear her. Mariah was cuteeeee (cough) but she was trying to out sing everyone and it did not work in her favor.

And i believe they all had ASIGNED parts to sing to if she did outsing anyone its because the person who wrote the song ASIGNED her the verse and WANTED her to because they know her vocal capabilities. Just like they had Beyonce to lead. They didnt male up their own verses. Beyonce out sung every one just like she did in destinys child, attention w****. Mariah voice aint wat it used to be but she still sounds better than all them others h*** on her worst day. Try again before you try to shade Mariah.

Mariah’s voice is cracked the f*** out and your inability to see, and apparently hear it, shows your dedication to her as a ‘stan’, which is admirable. However, you should take heed to actually critique the artists that you love so much so that they can actually get better at their craft.
Also, there may have been assigned parts and the musical director or producer may have given her a chance to go into a higher octave on the song. She has been known to do very well in that arena (notice the PAST TENSE). Nonetheless, she is not the singer she used to be and since she was already [TRYING] to out sing the rest of the group, her [TRYING] to reach up into a higher octave [FAILED]. And “she still sounds better than all them h*** on her worst day, (Your Words).” You must be a really dedicated stan…because that statement is just….crazy as f***.

As a fan of ciara i wish she would have had a bigger part but im greatful that she was on stage. people like alicia keys, amerie, janelle monae and tamia could have been on that stage but ciara was so hey it is what it is!
