In what can only be described as a ‘commercial wonder’ , Adele‘s album ‘21′ has returned to the top of the US Albums Chart, extending its lead as the longest running #1 album by a female in chart history.

With 74,029 units sold in the last week, the LP holds court at the top spot, one week after its total sales surpassed 22 million copies worldwide, less than two years after its initial UK release.
This marking yet another feat scored by the Brit bred project.
Thus far, it has been certified Diamond in Canada, Brazil and France, 2x Diamond in Poland, 16x Platinum in the UK, 9x Platinum in the US and 13x Platinum in Australia.

Something just doesn’t ring true about her sells figures! Come on, it was a good CD (I didn’t buy it) but it just doesn’t warrant all of this attenion! I can name a hundreed artsist who made similar or better CDs that didn’t receive his type of press and promotion! #i’mjustsaying
Every now and then there’s albums that sell like this. Adele has become a phenomenon and it’s no surprise her sales are like this at this point.
The album has literally been everywhere and it’s massive crossover appeal is keeping it selling.
… if you never bought it how would you know? and literally you are probably one of the few people who I’ve heard of that doesn’t own this album. Everyone from my Grandma, to boss, to my cousin’s friends in grade 9 bought this. It’s absolutely no surprise it’s doing so well. It’s such a simple beautifully crafted complete album. The PR train for this didn’t even really start till it was 2x platinum. and even then, compared to a Rihanna or Nicki Minaj style promo, Adele’s had nothing. It’s album that speaks to the heart and came out of no where, and we have very (very) few albums like that since the industry started blasting s*** into my ears since ’08. #I’mjustsaying

I listened to a snippet of it as well on Amazon and its NOT all that. Her sales figures have always been sketchy to me. Who is still buying this album for it to have a million copies a week sold for about 18 months now? Come on son. I can understand high number the first few weeks or even months but come on, she’s breaking MJ records. The album was not all that and neither is she. B**** need to lose some weight before she dont make it to 30.

Ummmm. I purchased this CD and I was soooooo disappointed, she’s good but average. Nothing to write home to mother about. I think she came along at the right time in music, no other CD/artist had put out anything hot; she came along and her music was different, not better, but different. I promise you, her 2nd CD will be a hot mess, it will be difficult for her to match this CD.

I both agree and disagree with you! I totally think that she bursted onto the music scene at the right time. However, It’s not that her sound is different (she’s singing Soul Music) she just offers the audience a “different look”! This of course isn’t to say she not a good artist which she is!
I doubt if her next CD sells as much, but make no mistake “the powers that be” will do everything in their power to duplicate these results even at the expense of other artists!
Make no mistake about it, her next album will still sale very well. She’s had a mega seller. She’s a real authentic artist, that has cultivated a huge following.
Wow! People are really starved for good music. Honestly, I don’t think the album was so amazing that it makes sense to have sold the way it did, but it PROVES better music from the heart with an awesome singer CAN and WILL dominate!

As much as I would want to throw shade, I cant, I have to give credit where it is due. Adele is slaying and slaying hard. Right now the charts are filled with music aimed at the younger or iTunes generation, Adele filled a void in the market by making music more geared to the mature or older age group who are more likely to buy music IMO. What is interesting is people still aren’t bored with this album.

There’s no way you sell consistently for almost 2 years the way she has and then just fade away. 3 number 1 singles, etc.
Her next album will be MASSIVE. I can only imagine the first week sales. If she puts out another quality album she could very well repeat 21’s success. It probably won’t drag out as much because her next album will be front-loaded with sales but it’s pretty much guaranteed to do extremely well when it comes out.
And it’ll be pretty much easy sailing after that. They probably won’t be as successful but she’ll pretty much always do well with her albums.

It’s all the more amazing that this is happening in 2012, when album sales are waaaay down. I didnt buy this cd nor do I plan on it, but congratulations on the biggest album in almost a decade. The last time I remember albums selling anywhere near this is in 2004 when Usher’s ‘Confessions’ and Outkast’s ‘Speakerboxx/ the Love Below’ we’re burning up the charts.

I don’t have this album either. I was actually interested in Adele at the beginning of this era (because I loved Chasing Pavements). I thought ’21’ would be just as good/or even better than ’19’ because I felt like Adele had huge potential. Once I heard the snippets for ’21’, I wasn’t impressed. I liked ‘Someone Like You’, but I just thought maybe I haven’t sat down long enough to really be moved by the nuggets on this album. I went back several times to try and “get it”. Then I realized that this is one of those albums people are afraid to dislike. So I stopped trying after a while. I think the hype is catching up with Adele and people are questioning ’21’s’ greatness (especially after realizing the brillance of ‘Back to Black’ after Amy’s death). I’m not saying Adele is a bad artist or that the album wasn’t worthy of some of it’s praise and success. I’m one of those people that have hated music since ’08 too! So just like those folks, I probably considered Adele to be a breath of fresh air … but we’ve been breathing it for over a year and a half now. What’s so fresh about it now? I have a feeling this album will not leave the top 10 this year. Somebody needs to be applauded for that.

Adele appeals to a much broader audience ranging from teens to senior citizens. The older the demographic, the less likely they are to download music (hence, CD sales) and the longer they are likely to discover music (hence, that Adele’s CD is still selling).
There are more the 300 million people in the United States, so her stateside sales numbers are totally in the conceivable range.

The thing, in my opinion, we`re missing is that music is made to touch you in same way. Adele is so successful because her music touch a much deeper part of the listener soul…at least for the majority of the people….She really have the ability to perform live like no other artist at her`s generation….(her live performances are thousand times better than the CD audio), she can pass feelings when she`s performing….feelings, feelings a lot deeper than fun feeling like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Perry, Gaga and others now a days……She is a true artist…she isn`t a celebrity…..the thing about her is ..She`s is unique….in style, in modesty, she doesn`t use her body to promote her music, she`s humble, and this whole package turn her a very likable, lovely person….which fans can be sympathetic with…..
Another thing is, like an artist, she`s just in another level………is a sign even to compare her to Gaga, Rihanna, Perry and Beyoncé….I am sorry but is the pure truth.
Her music like many other true artits before her, will be heard from the decades ahead….. Or all the critics…and all the world is wrong, and the few people who don`t like her are right. Choose your path.
