Behind the ludicrous and attention-seeking Halloween costumes, the obnoxiously overblown music videos, the swagger jacking of Madonna’s personality, and the conspicuous plot to manipulate the socially awkward and misfits of society into thinking that they have a voice (and are empowered) through her, is a bunch of banal and contrived gibberish heavily propped by media hype that does not live up to it. What began as a bouncy, pixyish, one-woman-show-esque version of what the Spice Girls did in the late 90s has now become an egotistical, overproduced–yet still oddly generic–mess of grating sounds that is irritating to listen to and takes itself too seriously.
Once upon a time this character that is ‘Lady Gaga’ may have provided a cheeky and quirky contrast to what had been the model of what was popular, and it may have been quasi-endearing, but when pop stars infuse that much camp into their image, at a certain point the irony *will* get old and lose its charm. In the meantime, this woman has literally crammed about a decades worth of gimmicks, put-on’s and media saturation into a three year span. We have seen her show up kite high, in meat dresses, with horns attached to her head, dressed as a man, with discharged gay soldiers as her escorts, etc., etc. The ‘shtick’ is old. There are only so many heavy-handed stunts you can use to dumbfound the public into noticing before they become either hostile or jaded, and a backlash ensues.
Lady Gaga has always been a ‘character’ for show, but she has become a caricature and a parody of herself. No longer is it “refreshing,” abstract or inventive; it is now tired and dated. Overexposure is killing the cat and quite frankly Gaga is losing her relevance. By making herself into such a sneaky little cartoon who is force-fed to the public in obscene dosages, she has backed herself into a corner. The only thing left for her to do at this point is to throw on a pair of jeans and act normal, but how boring would that be for someone who named herself ‘Lady Gaga’ and made being strange her ticket to fame? She was here; she dominated the world of music and got her press, but the milk is now sour. The writing was on the wall when dowdily dressed and anything-but-flashy Adele cock blocked what was supposed to be a Gaga-dominating 2011. Kids do not listen to her, it is not “cool” to be a walking freak show…and quite frankly it is not cool to like Lady Gaga now.

Gaga has been advised by everyone in her camp how to handle this and they all agreed that for her to go on the defense and ‘fight back’ would just make her more ripe for ridicule, and that the safest thing for her to do would be to not do anything. I’m a huge Madonna fan – but am I the only person in the world (besides Gaga) who doesn’t think the songs sound that similar..? When I first heard BTW I thought it had a Madonna vibe to it, but I never thought it sounded like a rip off of Express Yourself, and I still don’t. She has, of course, visually ripped the Queen off countless times – and M’s influence can be seen heard in about half of all Lady G’s songs. But I still don’t think it’s a rip off.
And how on earth are some people trying to paint BTW as a flop? It is the 2nd best selling album of last year – right? Does that mean only the best selling album of each year can be considered not a flop? Damn, you guys harsh – it’s a good job you don’t run record labels…. haha.
I worry now that Lady Gaga is going to be so paranoid about not copying Madonna that it will make her next album shit. It’s obvious M’s influence has made her the pop star she is – which I think is great – so if he she tries to take that away from her music and image I’m not sure what she;ll be left with.

BTW is a flop because it failed to at the very least match what The Fame did. They pumped mega millions into the recording and promotion of BTW, and it wound up moving about 5-6 million units less. Being the “2nd best selling album of the year” means nothing. The album failed to do what they were aiming for it to, and in the end they probably wound up in the red over it. That’s why they pulled promotion after less than a year and sent Gaga back into the studio so soon to follow it up. BTW only came last May, if it was successful, we’d still be hearing music from it.

Thagrapejuice Please Debbie Harry REALLY, Madonna was inspired by Patti Smith, Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde, even in the her more recent interview with Anderson Cooper she say that those women were her Musical inspirations, Debbie Harry it’s ok with Madonna, unlike Gaga Madonna has created her own image, that’s why everybody call her The Queen of Reinvention because of her looks, fuck everybody, Madonna is a bitch and i love her for that, she has never been fake, Madonna is not a saint but she doesn’t try to have an innocent image like Gaga, thank God! people like Madonna exist, why people don’t hate Mariah Carey when she has shade almost everybody in the industry but when is Madonna she is the most horrible person, you know what is envy because she is in a place were her competitors can only dream to be, she’s not the most talented, her voice is not the best but she is the top of the line Queen only behind Men, the other bitter bitches are not even close to her, the Best selling Female Musician of all times, that hurts i know, deal with it.

Beyonce doesn’t belong in the same sentence as Lady GaGa, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj. They all have more in common with each other than with Beyonce. And their genre is different from hers, and she is a better vocalist than all of them, but they’re all more of “it girls” at the moment than she is. Her “it girl” status was in 2003/2004

I’m not sure why everyone seems to be jumping to the conclusion that what she said is about Madonna – there was all the fuss over her show in the Far East, she may be talking about that, she hasn’t named names so don’t jump to conclusions! Even if it was about Madonna (and I don’t think it was only about her in any event – IF it was), it was done in a classy and ambiguous way. Madonna has no room to talk about theft as she has the long history of lawsuits behind her to prove her own theft. Gaga never stole Express Yourself’s chord progression because nobody owns chord progressions, not even Madonna. It was used in several songs back in the 70′s and 80′s long before Express Yourself came alone (check out Youtube for some interesting mashups with both songs and other songs that use the same chord progression). I had to listen really closely to find the similarity (and had to look up Express Yourself on Youtube as I couldn’t remember the song, despite being a teenager at the time), a tiny bit of the chorus sounds a bit like Express Yourself, big fucking deal! We’ve had 60 years of pop music, I hear a lot of songs that sound a bit like other songs but I don’t go around accusing them all of plagiarism, there are only so many notes and chords to use. If Madonna thought she had a leg to stand on regarding BTW/EY she would have sued Gaga like a shot, the fact that she didn’t says it all. Madonna was no innovator, she was just clever in finding things that were underground or hadn’t been done for a long time and making them hers, that is how Gaga is most like her. Where she isn’t like here is Gaga being a far superior musician, songwriter and singer to Madonna. Of course, Gaga being a fashion icon is hers alone, I can’t remember anything about Madonna other than the stupid cone bra/corset, she has had her day and ought to retire gracefully. Its not her age that is the problem, its the fact she has been putting out poorer and poorer material for the last decade, culminating in the clusterfuck that is MDNA.

I don’t have too much respect for Madonna (talent wise or even so much as a person). The only thing that’s superior about Madonna to Lady Gaga is her artistry, it isn’t as pretentious. They’re both “fearless” artists, but during Madonna’s time being so bold was actually more taboo and not egged on until Madonna really made a name for herself (that’s when she started getting away with murder).
Gaga has to suck it up! I don’t care to defend Madonna, but she’s only speaking on what everyone of us is clearly observing: Gaga’s ripping off Madonna’s image. Why is it wrong for her to speak up about it? The rules people make up are so unfair, any other artist would be accused of being way too inspired if they incorporate ideas. Here, we have Gaga walking around trying to emulate every phase of Madge’s career and people are attacking Madonna for being “bitter”. In some of Gaga’s videos she looked like the woman’s spitting image. It’s such hypocrisy, because alot of people jump down Beyonce’s throat for dancing next to a group of men (like New Edition), and we strike out against Rihanna for her flaws (lazy performances, awkward dancing), Chris Brown (lipping) and the list goes on. Lady Gaga just blantantly gets a pass, when she was the cocky one (getting a big head not so long ago) attacking Britney and Xtina and maaaaany others.
I don’t turn blind eye to people like that. Gaga lied about receiving Madonna’s approval in e-mails and made up bogus claims pretending to have written a song for Whitney that easily mimicked Madonna’s work (EY). It’s now her turn to defend her truth (under the pack of lies she’s fed the world). Maybe her best resolution for this matter is for her to simply be herself. it’s time for her to find her inner Stefani.

Gaga was obviously referring to the Madonna thing. She specifically referenced the song Born This Way in the full quote alongside comments about negativity which make it pretty obvious. It must be upsetting for Gaga because if the song does rip off EY (which I still don’t think it does) then it was obviously not intentional. As if she would sit in her studio thinking ‘I’m sure no one will notice this…’ There are many times in history when artists have ripped a song off without realising. Mick Jagger once paid royalties to KD Lang for her song after realising he’d copied it without meaning to. And for Gaga to then be made fun of for it by the artist who inspires her the most must be a slap in the face. But I still love Madonna for doing it as I think she’s just having fun, laughing along with the joke – I doubt she’s taking it very seriously. Gaga I think maybe takes herself a little bit too seriously, especially since Born This Way came out. I hope her next album is along the lines of Heavy Metal Lover and Government Hooker – more just silliness. She doesn’t have to change the world, just make some good music.

Born This Way FLOPPED and you all know it. MDNA is Madonna’s 12th album and she already sold over 375 million records and is the biggest selling female artist of all time. She can afford to flop at this point. BTW was Gaga’s 2nd and already she’s stalling in sales. Gaga’s supposed to be the hottest star on the planet right now, but the trick’s bullshit album only sold 2 million US? Fuck is THAT shit? Gaga peaked MUCH sooner than Madonna did. When Madonna was at the stage Gaga’s at right now, she was selling 20 million per album and no other female was bigger.
