Peep his surprising warning to artists considering ‘stepping into his lane’ below…
He explained:
I’m just gonna say, don’t nobody out there step into my f*cking lane.
That’s all I’m going to say. Just stay in your lane. I’m a competitive person and the thing is I’m solidifying my lane and don’t f*cking come over here cause I will f*ck you up in that situation. But that’s how we’re supposed to be.
I’ve been saying I appreciate so many different kinds of music and what I don’t appreciate is…I want everyone to express themselves in a unique way. I think I’m saying that in an aggressive way because that’s how I really feel, but what I mean by that is; find your own thing to do and create your own lane. It’s not the easy way, but it creates longevity for you and I think that’s what I’m trying to encourage.
Where I’m going, I’m really trying to take everybody with me, and I’m just saying, don’t come over here, I’ll f–k you up yo.

Hmmmm… K, I’m not sure what “lane” that is that he wants people to steer clear of. There were so many people doing similar music to Miguel in this forbidden “lane”. Dangelo, Raphael Saadiq, Maxwell, Dwele, Raheem Devaughn – all came first. Is this guy in their “lane” visiting? I think Miguel should keep it humble and build up his stats and work on leaving an impact, before all this ego comes into play.

I am a big Usher fan but I do feel Miguel has a point because since Miguel came out Usher has mophed into a Miguel clone from his look to his sound. Miguel is clearly inspired by Prince but what is Usher’s excuse because he said he is inspired by Michael Jackson. It’s sad that he felt the need to copy Miguel when he is such a superstar.

I like Miguel, well his music anyway, I think he has a dope sound and I’ve LOVED the music he’s put out so far, BUT he’s is coming off a lil too cocky for my taste. There’s nothing more annoying than a new artist acting as if they’re so original and no is on there level.
I do think he has a unique sound and is standing out amongst the artist that are out NOW, but he really can’t claim a lane that was carved out by someone else, that someone being Prince. I’m not saying he’s never cited Prince as a source of inspiration or paid homage, but Miguel still has a long way to go before he can be claiming any lane. He’s still a rookie.
His first album was really good and even though it spawned several hits it still didn’t garner him too much success as far as sales & awards. I’m interested to see where he goes with his next album. He’s gonna have to back up all shit he’s talking or else he’s gonna look real silly.
