Nicki Minaj Lands White House Invitation Following Health Care Tweets ?

Published: Friday 15th Jun 2012 by David

Last night, the world began mourning the death of Yvette Wilson– the acclaimed comedienne most recognized for her work in 90s sitcom.

A long time sufferer of cervical cancer, the last few months saw the actress call on the public’s help to fund her treatment as the US health system- unlike that of the UK’s- does not offer free medical care.

Enraged by the injustice, ‘Superbass‘ Rapper Nicki Minaj took to Twitter to air out her feelings. Feelings, which have now scored her an invitation to the White House to debate the issue.

Full story below…

In response to a fan who tweeted of Wilson’s death, the mogul explained:

(She) had to raise [insert dollar] for her MEDS.

What’s sad is that when Yvette was bringing home the bacon, the gov’t was probably taking millions. On her deathbed though, #Nowheretobefound.

That should be a God given right! Even with Obama Care, too much involved. Just give FREE health care to all. @barackobama What can we do?

@BarackObama I wouldn’t mind the millions they took if it was going to healthcare. Why should a poor person struggle to pay for MEDS sir?

Moved by her message, Questo of The Roots replied:

@NICKIMINAJ i personally know that the white house administration would LOVE for you to use ur tweet power to raise health care awareness

@NICKIMINAJ seriously dm me, they need that energy you convey’d last night about Yvette Wilson’s health crisis! you can help!.

Minaj is yet to respond to Questo publicly.

This marks the latest political stance the multi-platinum MC has spoken out on this year. Back in April, she criticized irresponsible women who had children for what she called ‘the wrong reasons’.

She expressed:

I really am interested in learning how to build the education system to a point where we have more of a success rate in terms of black children that go from high school to college.

Most of my closest girlfriends, it was just like once they got out of high school they figured, “Oh well, we’re out of high school’ or ‘I got my GED, I’m good’ and I don’t want my fans to think like that.

One day, you’re going to look back and think ‘Wait a minute, did I really lose my life clubbing and miss out on a moment where I could’ve been building myself as a woman and having something to offer my children.’

We got so many girls right now having children and don’t even know the first thing to say to a child.

You’re having a child because I want to keep this dude or it just happened. I want to get us to the place where it doesn’t just happen and that we’re smarter than that. We’re the ones in control again.

Why are we never in control? Why are we stuck with a baby?

Why are we always stuck on the welfare line? Why are we always stuck having to beg, borrow and steal to provide for our children?

Why do we think there’s something wrong for waiting to have a baby?

Waiting until you’re 35 or 36 to have children; technology has changed – you can wait.

Your thoughts?

If she had all of these STRONG sentiments then why couldn’t Onika take the time to personally cut her family a check and help fight for the woman’s life? while I agree that she does have some great points the fact still remains that she is a hot mess that doesn’t need to be anywhere near the White House.

    • bLaine kelley June 16, 2012

from the way it sounds Nicki did not know about the woman’s health situation/death until after it already happened.

    • Yellinggirl June 19, 2012

The question does come up “Why didn’t you give money” but then I had to retract that question.

1st – How do we know that Nicki was even aware of Yvette’s medical situation.

2nd – We pay taxes in this country, so things like health care, affordable housing, equal quality of living, and economic and social equality are things that should come without question and from the government that we support with our tax dollars!

…so regardless if Nicki knew or not, or whatever her roll was in providing financial assistance, its not her responsibility its our governments responsibility to support the citizens that keep it running, when we need it.

  2. TruthTeller June 15, 2012

I’m a fan of nicki but i call b*******. Celebs sit and act like they give a s*** about us but they really dont when it comes to our well-being. She mentioned that Yvette had to pay her own bills, did she sit there and take money out of her purse to help? Don’t rant about s*** online and then do nothing about it. And stop blaming Obama. Celebs dont realize they have more power than the president as far as their persuasion. Oh and fun fact: this is the same person who didnt know George Zimmerman wasn’t immediately arrested for the death of Treyvon Martin. Google it. Dont get all political when it suits you.

    • jade June 15, 2012

Maybe she didn’t know about it. Maybe she was abroad, and if she knew about it before, you never know, she might have helped.

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

        Oh please b****.

      • jade June 15, 2012

Erm… Why am I not offended by your comment.

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

You’re obviously just a delusional Nicki stan that can’t tell the difference between right and wrong. The fact of the matter is that this woman decided to hop on twitter to garner attention before knowing her facts OR better yet actually helping her family. You offering up excuses for her does nothing but show how truly ignorant you are.

      • jade June 15, 2012

Please be quiet. I know for a fact that you don’t know me. So please don’t judge. Internet warriors SMH

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

And you don’t know me either you raggedy ass ignorant b****. So how about you not comment on something which you obviously know NOTHING about.

      • jade June 15, 2012

You sound really childish. 😐 And you also know nothing about it either.
        Calling me a b**** ain’t doing s***.

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

Why are you so pressed over the fact that I don’t agree with your opinion? obviously you are a Nicki stan and can’t admit to anything suspect that your “fave” does. B**** bye.

      • jade June 15, 2012

I’m not ‘pressed’ that you don’t agree with me. I couldn’t care less if you don’t agree with me. The fact that you don’t know me and you’re judging me and calling me a b**** for no absolute reason.
        Idiot.

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

I’m calling you a b**** and an idiot for a very good reason. Whether I know you or not is irrelevant when you roll up on a blog talking about “oh you don’t know whether or not Nicki knew beforehand” because if in fact she did know then why didn’t Nicki donate the money to Yvette’s family? and if she didn’t know then what is the need for her to comment now? either way it’s a mess and you are a simpleton.

      • jade June 15, 2012

No that is not a good reason. It is irrelevant when you come on a blog and start arguing with people. Doubt you couldn’t do all of this in reality.
And I’m saying that if she did know, she may have donated money. Who knows?
Her opinion is not just based on Yvette, it’s based on the whole of America. When she heard Yvette’s story she was obviously impacted by it, fed up of the system and thought to take a stand. Damn and I;m not even from America.

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

It’s very obvious that you aren’t from the US. My point is that she knew enough about the situation to comment publicly about it on a social networking site but she didn’t know ANYTHING about it until AFTER the woman died? please. And also I am fully aware that her comment is focused more on the global scale of the issue but she chose to comment on this particular incident because this incident is the one that sparked her supposed “outrage”. This has been a long standing issue and if she didn’t feel the need to protest when thousands of people were dying due to the same flaw in the present health care system then why say something now? your comment is irrelevant and STILL ignorant. This conversation is over.

  3. Trev June 15, 2012

You people are so silly…you honestly believe Nicki knew of this before we did…it was only $25,000 I’m pretty sure Nic would have cut a check…

…and you people are so simple that you’ve completely missed the point…Yvette is just one person…Nicki can’t pay everyone’s bills…she is using her fame for good…she’s bringing light to a topic that needs to be discussed…and instead of people siding with her you choose to attack her…congrats you’re making Americans look even dumber than we already are

    • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

No one asked Nicki to pay everyone’s bills. She chose to comment on this one particular case when it was a WELL known fact that her family had been asking for money to cover her medical expenses. As a matter of fact they even set up a website to make it more convenient for people to donate if they were concerned. Onika chose to wait until the woman passed away before declaring how horrible the current Health Care system system is without doing something as simple as donating $25,000 for a cause instead of spending it on yet another tacky ass wig.

      • WELL DAMN! June 15, 2012

@HonestlySpeaking You’re obviously only here to attack Nicki’s character for some odd reason so your opinion is no longer needed. YOU’RE SUCH A HATER!! BYE

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

No one is attacking her character. You need to learn the difference between a hater and a truth teller boo boo. Next.

      • HeavyHeavy June 15, 2012

so true!! don’t listen to the delusional young nicki fans that are still learning their alphabet.

      • Trev June 15, 2012

well known?????? i didn’t even know this woman was sick! Very few people knew she was sick, including Nicki…she found out when everyone else did…how could Nicki or anyone donate to a cause they knew nothing about?

      • Juzi June 15, 2012

        @Honestly Speaking

You don’t know AT ALL whether Nicki knew of the situation before it lead to the woman’s death, you are only assuming. Things only hit the news when people have passed because its more newsworthy so most people wouldn’t have even known she was sick (i didn’t).

You sit there attacking Nicki who is speaking up about the (disgustingly atrocious) healthcare system in america because Nicki didn’t save one particular persons life…this is about millions of people who cant get healthcare but one person who has brought it to light.

Also if everyone should have known about this, where was your fave cutting the check, where were YOU and why weren’t you giving her 25k for her med’s….you described it as simple no? So i don’t understand why you didn’t do it…

If you liked the artist you’d be hailing them for bringing up the issue, you’re clearly just a hater of Nicki, what’d she do to you?

I don’t normally post and if you reply ill never even read it, but your ignorance had to be dealt with…i don’t care for your opinion but the fact it might influence others, like Nicki’s is in her tweet’s. Only her influence is positive and about making america a better place for all, yours is negative and out to attack people for something you couldn’t do yourself as you instead hide behind your screen saying things you’d never do face to face.

      • Honestly Speaking June 16, 2012

That’s where you’re sadly mistaken boo. I have no problems with stating my issue with someone in an articulate and calm manner. My stance on this issue remains the same. Instead of getting emotional over there writing paragraphs of nonsense why don’t you actually take the time to read some of my comments? you’d find that I’m not ignorant at all and the only person here that seems to be upset or “pressed” rather is you. Consider this me personally dealing with YOUR deluded ignorance. Bye.

  4. Kissy_Minaj June 15, 2012

In Trinidad where Nicki was born, we receive free health care. Maybe this issue will force the US Gov’t to care more about its citizens and offer free health care to ALL. Even the UK offers it. Why is the US so greedy when it comes to health, so many innocent children die because of not enough funds to pay their health bill. This issue of having to pay for health care is so foreign to us here. And to those who say Nicki should have cut a check, what if she didn’t know about it? What about Yvette’s co-stars like Brandy and Mo’nique who didn’t help her one bit?
Oh and I don’t see where she blamed Obama one bit, she merely pleaded for help for the poor.

  5. BEYONCE’S WEAVE June 15, 2012

Hats off to Nicki for her political stance on some things. Having said that, I feel Nicki is hypocritical on a lot of things.

She is a platinum selling artist, I’m certain she had the money to pay for the medication. The big question is “why didn’t she”? Instead of spamming the Obama twitter page, Ms Minaj would have simply put on a benefit concert to raise money if she didn’t want to pay out of pocket.

Coming to the issue of women, Ms Minaj hangs out, collaborates and most likely associates herself with rappers who promote this lifestyle for women. Why hasn’t she blasted 50 cent for his “baby by me” song or any of the numerous other rappers who insult and degrade women on every song they get (if they are not making death threats or bragging about their money)? Celebs can be hypocritical sometimes.

  6. monsterhive June 15, 2012

How the f*** do you guys know Nicki knew Yvette was sick? Myself & the rest of the world didn’t know she had financial issues till she died. I can’t with some of you acting like you KNOW Nicki knew Yvette couldn’t pay her medical bills. A side from that Yvette is just one person, & that is Nicki’s point, our government spends so much time & money investing in wars & other pointless ventures when we should be taking care of our health first. She made a very good point, everyone has skeletons in there closet, if she wants to voice her opinion she can do so, especially on such a political manner. Nicki’s family issues have nothing to do with the way our government runs this country.

    • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

As the comments above yours have stated Nicki is a very hypocritical person. If she didn’t know then, then what is the point of her commenting now? Nicki, could have done multiple things to help Yvette and her family out if she were truly concerned.

      • NATURALBEAUTY June 15, 2012

B**** please, how do you KNOW Nicki knew? This issue is much bigger than 1 person & that is her point.

      • Honestly Speaking June 15, 2012

If you would bother to read before typing I addressed and acknowledged the fact that her comment is more on a global scale in previous posts/comments. My stance on the subject however is still the same.

    • Lola June 15, 2012

Didn’t Nicki make a song making fun of people who was on well-fare.On the DJ Khaled song she said,”I’m paying for you health care.”Nicki is a hypocrite

  7. WELL DAMN! June 15, 2012

Nicki Minaj is a very intelligent young lady and she makes alot of sense in what she said…That being said, not here for people making ignorant comments.

  8. NATURALBEAUTY June 15, 2012

Lmao at you lames acting as if you know Nicki & her family personally. Regardless she has a point, she is allowed to voice her opinion on an issue that MANY feel the same way about as her. She never wins tho, let her Tweet about some nonsense you’ll call her a dumbass, let her Tweet about a real political issue that concerns millions, oh she’s such a horrible person.

  9. Kingphoenix June 15, 2012

She will look foolish if she tries to go debate anything, that man was doing nothing but throwing shade at her basically trying to humiliate her…basically she will be damn if she do and damn if she don’t. Twitter is the Devil.

  10. Slap-a-h** June 15, 2012

Nicki is telling the truth! America’s health Care system sucks also our young black woman and men need to be in college getting a education making that money instead of raising babies at an early age.

    • Lola June 15, 2012

Didn’t Nicki make a song making fun of people who was on well-fare.On the DJ Khaled song she said,”I’m paying for you health care.”Nicki is a hypocrite.

  11. Agreed June 15, 2012

I agree with her. Especially the things about young girls having babies. Nicki always embeds in her fans brains to go to school, get good grades, and not to worry about boys. Even so much to the point where they bring their grades with them when they see her.

    • Raven June 15, 2012

But yet she promotes the exact opposite in her music and her name alone(Minaj) meaning threesome.

THERES NOOOOOO WAY ON EARTH A VETERAN , SEASONED ACTRESS AND COMEDIAN SUCH AS YVETTE WILSON WHO HAS BEEN ON SUCCESSFUL SITCOMS SHOULDVE HAD TO DIE DUE TO A LACK OF FINANCES TO HELP HER MEDICAL COSTS ESPECIALLY A MEASLY 25,000.00.. Y V THESE CELEBS WANNA TALK ABOUT THE UNFAIR TREATMENT BLACK CELEBS AND ACTRESSES GET BUT WHEN ONE OF THEIR OWN IS SUFFERING THEY CANT UNITE AND HELP HER BY CUTTING A CHECK AND SPREADING AWARENESS!!! THEY ARE HYPOCRITES!! I AM DISSAPPOINTED WITH YVETTE’s FORMER CASTMATES, ESPECIALLY BRANDY AND MONIQUE!!

  14. Yep June 15, 2012

SHAR JACKSON WAS DEFINATELY VOCAL AND CONCERNED AND THAT SHOWS SHE HAS A HEART… OTHER THAN HER I SAW NO CONCERN FROM THEM OTHER GREEDY CELEBS.. THEM CELEBS COULDVE EASILY TWEETED THEIR THOUSANDS, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS AND MILLIONS OF FOLLOWERS GIVING THEM THE WEBSITE TO DONATE FUNDS FOR YVETTE!! THEY COULDVE UNITED YET THEY WANNA TALK ABOUT BLACK STAR POWER AND UNITY IN HOLLYWOOD DUE TO THE OBVIOUS DISADVANTAGES BLACKS IN HOLLYWOOD EXPERIENCE , BUT THEY DIDNT SHOW NO BLACK STAR POWER OR UNITY,, AT LEAST HER OWN PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD COULDVE UNITED AND HELPED HER!! SHOUT OUT TO SHAR THO,, I HOPE SHE STAYS STRONG !!

RIP yvette wilson, i grew up watching her on my tv, and still to this day watch her on the parkers on youtube. i cant watch it now without welling up, its just so sad. rip …

  16. john June 15, 2012

Im very disapointed in brandy and monique. Yvette famiky has been begging for donations for months. M** even ran a story on it asking their readers to donate money. Shar Jackson did help out a little. Shar Jackson and countess vaughn is paid. But the’re single mothers trying to take care of their kids. They not able to take every role that comes they way do to them still having young kids. So understand their situaction. Ken l and marcus paulk have a couple hundred thousands sitting in the bank. But they havient had any major gigs in years. So i understand why they couldnt afford to cough up a lot of cash. Plus ken l(the dude was played T on the parkers) just started his own record label. And is releasing his alumb independently. Which means hes founding his alumb outtah his own pocket. (Check his music out, its really good, reminds me of boyz to men). So i understand why he couldnt afford to cough up a lot of cash. But brandy and monique is another case. Monique has a network of $15 million bring in residual checks from the parjers and the monique show, owns a comedy club, and writes books on the side. And makes $50,000- $100,000 per appearance and she couldnt cough up atleast $20,000. Brandy has a networth of $20 million bringing residual checks off of moesha(gmc does a moeaha marathon every satutday) getting publishing checks for all them songs she wrote, makes $1-2 million dollar per film, $20,000 per appearance. Has done guest appearance on the game, drop dead diva, 90210 and has a alumb coming out and she couldnt cought up at least $20,000. She spends $1500.00 a week on her hair.

  17. MusiKPro June 15, 2012

wait a minute I know nicki minaj is not talking about education for black children and young women getting a higher education and being better ladies and mothers as if she is a role model with the lyrical content she’s putting out?! my god the hypocrisy! I will not let her statements fool me when she was just on the radio professing that her main priority is “Getting Money”. Well she’s making money off those welfare mothers that I see in the street everyday wearing a multicolored wigs and tight clothes trying to look like her because they figure thats the only way to get attention or success. Nicki is part of the problem, not the solution. She is talented yes, but does she have to go to the means of writing “Stupid H**” and pulling out d****’s proclaiming she will “P*** on B******” SHOOT she even promotes those same “young black children and friends” to have self hate with her nappy headed h** and need a perm lines in her songs….and supporting little wayne and his light skin/dark skin issues. oh please, you are talented nicki behind all that craziness but at least be REAL for once! If yvette tweeted you begging for money the day before she died would you be tweeting that for attention NO. & you know you going to the white house will be to promote yourself. Skip that PR sh*t and go right to the source of need like normal volunteers do.

    • Yep June 15, 2012

AGREED HER RAW SEXUALLY EXPLICIT LYRICS ARE ENCOURAGING YOUNG GIRLS TO ENGAGE IN S** AND ACT LIKE PORNSTARS,,, SHE IS USING THIS TO GET ATTENTION FROM OBAMA JUST SO THAT SHE CAN ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING,,,,, SHE TRIES WAAAAAAAAAY TO HARD….

    • OpD2 June 15, 2012

ignorant she was talking about her rivals and detractors she is a rapper she was in a beef, she wasn’t dissing her black brothers and sister, that have nothing to do with this issue, then let say nicki is a hypocrite as you claim her to be,not because she is a hypocrite don’t mean what she is saying on this issue is wrong, only person i see on here promoting hate and all types of fabricated f-ckry is you,you need to check your self.

Some of you cant see the forest for the trees.

Nicki was pointing out the bigger picture. Millions of people cant afford healthcare and dont get the healthcare they need. They get sick and end up in debt. THAT’s THE POINT. Stop your hate for messenger and realize the bigger picture idiots.

Her point is people should not have to do fundraisers depending on selfish people to help when they fall ill to a disease. Its pretty inhumane if you ask me. What is the government doing about the greed these pharmaceutical corporations and healthcare systems are getting away with? We pay taxes don’t we. When Yvette was on that show, the government took chunks of her money and she dies over 25,000 dollars. Things will never change in this country because our system has created such ignorant, clueless fools.

Also people got to realize, Nicki makes money, she is taxed big and she has to worry about her self as well. what if she gets sick or something or someone in her family. She can’t go giving away thousands. that simply. I mean I think she can give something but her career is not set in stone either. She better save every penny she has how corrupt this system is.

Toni braxton went bankrupt due to an illness and she sold way more than Nicki at one point.

She could have set up a fundraiser but Nicki has done benefit concerts and foundations for cancer and a***. We all can only do so much. The government and our political leaders has to take responsibility at some point.

    RIP Yvette.

    • Yep June 16, 2012

Toni Braxton has sold more records than Nicki Minaj point ,blank, period, not at one point. Nicki Minaj has not and it will be VERY HARD for any of her albums to sell Like TOni’s best selling albums which are her first two albums.. ALBUms dont sell like that anymore.. NICKI MINaj has not surpassed Toni Braxton’s sales, so please speak FACTS , NIcki struggled to go GOLD.. And Toni sold them albums before the Digital era,, people actually went out and bought her albums..

  21. R.I.P Yvette June 15, 2012

Obviously Nicki is just trying to raise awareness using this particular situation as an example…I’m pretty sure if this was so well known other celebrities would have cut a check Nicki probably only knew her the same way we knew her as Andell why Brandy or Monique didnt help out is the real question The fact is most people didn’t even know she was sick but when it’s your time and god calls you home there’s no amount of money or any surgery that will help…

  22. Roman June 16, 2012

Nicki Minaj has ALWAYS had a strong political view. Go listen “press conference”. She’s always going off about politics. She may look like a barbie but she’s educated. She went to school and then followed her music passion, that itself proves that she’s capable of being a role model. Unlike yal pregnancy faking, coke smoking, rehab resident faves. Stay mad

  23. AndySays June 16, 2012

Tell me, what would have changed if Nicki did pay for this woman’s medication? Would the fact that there is no free health care change as soon as she did so? No. This is an issue that needs to be sorted out by the government, not Nicki, or anyone else for that matter.

  24. Skylar June 16, 2012

This post is so misleading… She DID NOT receive an invitation from the White House. Hell, when Quest Love reached out to her and recommended that she reach out directly to the Healthcare administration, she has yet to reply back. #talkischeap!

  25. mobwife June 16, 2012

“US health system- unlike that of the UK’s- does not offer free medical care”

AND THIS IS A DAMN SHAME!! 🙁

  26. Amanda July 3, 2012

Why does she only mention building the education system for black children? Shouldn’t she want to better the education system for ALL American children? If I said white children, I know a million people would pull racism and throw huge fits about it. Her point was good, but a bit to specific for me to really appreciate it. It should be better for all children in general. Just can’t wrap
My head around why she would say that. It offends me I guess.

    • Trev July 4, 2012

because generally whites gets better education than blacks…it was not a s*** at white people…why when black people try to elevate themselves white people always want to call it racist…ie HBCU’s, BET, NCAAP…a lot of white people say “why do black people get there own colleges, tv network, and associations, how come white people can’t do that?”

the answer is…you don’t have to! Historically all colleges are white…blacks were not allowed to go to school with whites…and HBCUs aren’t only for blacks, it’s just that generally white people don’t choose to go…and the same thing goes for the other stuff…all tv networks are white, etc so there is no need to have your own group because everything is for whites by default…and the Latino struggle is quite similar
