She needs to stop letting Swizz produce her music smh… Her piano is what saved the song.
Also i feel like the song would be better for somebody with more powerful vocal.
It’s not a bad song tho it’s actually nice but disapppointing.

I feel like the song will do “okay” on the radio, but not because of the quality, because it’s an Alicia Keys song. Don’t get me wrong, I think the sound is great cut off the album… but I was expecting something “HUGE” being her first release since 2009. Hmmmm, I’ll wait for other album tracks to surface :-)

Except that “New Day” isn’t really R&B but urban pop. It;ll do better on urban charts than on the general chart. Alicia is very talented, but uptempos don’t do her voice any favors, even Rihanna(who isn’t up to Alicia’s level vocally) could have sung this song better than Alicia.
It’s good that AK tried something kind of new(for her), but songs like this and “Put It In A Love Song” don’t really fit her vocally

HOT HOT HOT HOT, i have this song on repeat. she needs to release it as a single, it is really different it has the pop/r&b style that has the possibility of pleasing both crowds. i love the song already and i can’t wait to buy it and the album. i hope she has more songs like this on her album with of course her signature r&b songs.

I fell in love with the instrumental immediately and very refreshing as a 1st single from AK its not what i expected from her at all. Its just that her vocals … Well she’s not a strong vocalist and its very evident on this track. I’m still gonna bump d track anyways

I Love This! It may not be what you expect when you hear Alicia Keys, but that’s what makes it even better, she is coming out of her usual ‘You don’t Know my name’ or ‘No one’ stage which is good! I love those songs, and I expect this to do just as good! Its been a while since we had an R&B song as the #1 on the Billboard 100, so hopefully Ms.Keys helps us out

Alicia Keys does steal men from women, but she can DEF make a hit song.

UNFORTUNATLY R&B still hasn’t risen from the Dead so this song WILL NOT be a Hot 100 hit. it lacks techno garbage and has lyrics that actually are inspiring.

I see this being a top 10 on the R&B charts maybe even #1 on the Dance Charts, but R&B IS DEAD , and this song doesn’t have what it takes to rise it from the ashes.

so lOVE IT, but It’s already A “FLOP”

It’s no “You Don’t Know My Name,” but I won’t hate. Agree that it’s good that Alicia didn’t sell out to pop, but she isn’t the type that would.

I was expecting one of her trademark soulful ballads, but it could have been worse…she could have pulled an Usher on us and put out some wack Gaga/Katy-type s*** that nobody would’ve liked and completely alienated her fan base. I don’t LOVE this song but I can tolerate it. Obvious they were trying to keep it “light” for summer.

I’m not doing back flips over this either. I think Swizz Beatz has always stunk as a producer. His tracks sound like video game music. But IA that this could have been much much worse if she was desperate to fit in with cheesy dips like Rihanna and Carly Rae Jepsen. You can say Alicia isn’t the type who would sell out, but 5 years ago no one would have thought Usher would do it either. I’d rather Alicia flop than hit with a “Firework”.

I’m just so happy Alicia is giving us some new music to enjoy. It may not be what some expected but that could be a good thing. Alicia is always surprising us. and she has changed with each album. As long as she is gracious enough to keep giving us such beautiful music, I will be more than happy to enjoy it. Love her and her music so much and wish her the best. Btw, I heard the entire song and it’s great! Looking forward to the album.

Considering who you stan for, if you say the song is “WHACK” (which, BTW, is the wrong spelling of the word you’re trying to use) that it can’t be that bad, because your taste in music is WACK (no ‘h,’ birdbrain.)

      Seriously, shut up. You’re lame.

Took a couple of listens but….
Yes the beats standard swizz APART from alicia’s piano riffs going through the track which lift it from being too similar to everything else thats out there.
True this type of track doesn’t naturally suit her voice (she sounds strained in parts, same as p.i.i.a.l.s) but i think it kinda work on this one?
4/5 from me and defo NOT what anyone would expect from Ms Keys :)

I like it!!!! The drum breakdown @ the end is niiiiice…I like that she released a “real” uptempo song for her 1st single instead of the mid-tempo/slow songs she usually releases…this is straight up R&B, summer, club song with a positive message!!! “Eyes on the wall, it’s now or never at all,
I’m gonna give it my all, whether I rise or fall, I’m gonna give it my all” #newday :-)

PS – for every1 saying she sounds “strained” singing the song, I think that’s what they were going for, strained, meaning emotional, but on key!!!
