It may have taken its time to do it, but today saw Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded‘ bring news we’re sure will have many a ‘Barb‘ beaming.
Marking the latest feat scored by the Rap release, it has now been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

With over 900,000 copies sold worldwide, the LP has been certified Platinum in the US for shipments of 1,000,000- extending her lead as one of 2012′s highest selling acts, and cementing her status as one of the fastest selling Rappers in chart history.
All this, without the benefit of a US #1 single and the first week sales many had hoped to see the Rapper rake in on in the week commencing April 2nd.
Set to hit the 1 million copies sold worldwide mark by July’s end, these sales are likely to land Minaj a favorable spot on Billboard’s 2012 Year- End chart.
The same chart, which saw her debut album ‘Pink Friday‘ outsell Rihanna‘s ‘Loud’ and Chris Brown‘s ‘FAME‘ in the US.

Thats what platinum means, it doesn’t mean actual sales which is hard to keep track of. as soon as a record company (Universal) sell/ship a million it will be certified, because that’s what they sold. Its then up to the record stores to make a profit off it (they buy it from the record company cheaper) and sell it off. If the demand is high they order more. And obviously the demand was high because Universal was able to sell/ship a million.
Some people actually think that record companies give the albums to record stores for free hoping that the stores will sell it for them. Wrong, the record stores have to purchase the albums first.

You’re right to a certain extent. Artists who ship a mill are usually the big ones (the albums wouldn’t remain 600K copies unsold, per example.)
But Nicki is at least 500K away from a mill and her album these past 3 months has been selling slow.
Sales are tracked by Nielson Soundscan and so far Nicki has sold 534K

Look at all these stupid stupid ppl talking about things they knwo nothing about. Let me school you, the album was certified platinum because that’s how much albums the record company sold. 1 Million! The reason Universal was able to sell/ship so many albums is because ppl are buying it in the stores and the record stores are in turn ordering more copies from Universal. No one can say Nicki sold 540,000 because that’s too difficult to check, it would mean the record stores would have to give weekly or monthly returns which they do not. So all those albums you see by various artistes who go platinum, it doesnt necessarily mean they have sold them all to the public, it simply means that the record company sold that much. Which is all that matters at the end of the day.
If Nicki sold 540,000, then this means that there are 360,000 copies sitting in stores which I highly doubt. She sold way more than 540,000 but hey jealous bitches will hate no matter what. Ya just mad cause the kid done gone plat again. U mad? Stay mad!

They do this all the time. Letoya Luckett shipped a million and received a platinum plaque but “Letoya” sold around the same amount of copies as Kelly’s “Simply Deep” which Kelly did not receive a platinum plaque for. I find it a bit unfair.
I think PF:RR will hit the one million mark by this year’s end, the holiday sales will give her the boost the album needs.

Im stunned reading some of the comments here.
When have certifications EVER been based on sales? Never! This means that everytime this site announced someone went platinum your dumb asses thought it was because they had sold a million. NO!
Record stores will indicate to a label if an album is selling consistently and if the label agrees that it is, they’ll ship as many fresh copies as they think they can sell.
They dont just decide “oh lets ship a milli”, they actually have an entire team who work out the likelihood of it selling that much using the rate of sale, that means how fast it’s selling.
She may have only sold 500k in the US but her label know she’s going to release Pound The Alarm soon and that should increase demand for the album and so to make sure NOBODY is turned away when they go to buy it, they have the stores stocked with enough copies.
None of this is free to do, it’s very expensive when you count the cost of making it, to distributing it all around the US. Once the distribution happens the label has to request a certification from the RIAA who has to verify they’ve actually shipped that much.
The reason Rihanna hasn’t gone platinum is because Def Jam won’t distribute a million copies which is so wrong and unfair. Same goes for Britney’s Blackout, it may have sold enough copies but the label havent requested a certification for shipment.

They may not have requested a certification for Rihanna because the demand for it is not great. If it was selling out in stores, they would have shipped it. I’m one of the few Beyonce fans who like some of Rihanna’s music, her music is really addicting so I don’t know why its not selling in the US. But worldwide she killing it, she is a digital monster!

Am I the only one who noticed there’s something wrong with the data from RIAA.
According to the picture TGJ posted, the album was certified gold AND platinum at the same day! How can an album get 2 certifications in ONE day? Did she sell an additional 500k in the morning of June 22nd? Something’s wrong here.
Maybe it’s because the album is a double disc package, so if the album sells 500k they multiply it by 2, but then again Christina’s ‘B2B’ and Beyonce’s ‘IASF’ didn’t get that privillege.

I swear the most stupid ppl ever invented comment on this blog. It is not and has never been possible to have a “platinum-selling” album. Platinum is awarded for the amount of units shipped. Etc.
And btw the RIAA is simply lazy with some albums. Britney Spears’ “Blackout” for example has sold over a million copies but never received a certification. Madonna’s “American Life” is Platinum but “Hard Candy” Is Gold although it has sold more actual copies.
And don’t even get started on overshipping if you are a Lil’ Kim fan. “Hardcore” Is DOUBLE PLATINUM but according to Nielson Soundscan has sold just 1.4 MILLION copies. That blows a huge hole in your argument.

She went gold in the u.s. but she went platinum worldwide. No matter what its platinum and she’s getting that bread not to mention she’s on tour with sold out arenas. And if you haven’t noticed she said she is the female weezy, do your research on wayne and you’ll notice they have VERY similar sales. I think this was one of thoes albums to see what people like more so she can analyze and come out with shit ppl wanna actually hear. Notice how people at her concerts go bananas for her raps and recently she has been doing RAP features. Take it to the head, Get low, & Born stunna. I’m Predicting her 3rd album will be FIRE
