Day26 Announce Break-Up

Published: Monday 16th Jul 2012 by Sam

The Bad Boy curse strikes again. This time Day26 are its latest victims.

After teasing a new album and reality series, the R&B quartet look poised to press on following their departure from the Diddy-helmed label. However, in an open-letter to their fans today, the group confirmed that they have decided to take a “break”.

The press release after the jump…

(New York NY – July 16, 2012) – “It is with great sadness and deep pain that we regret to inform you that effective immediately, Atlantic Records Platinum recording group, DAY26 have decided to take a break from the group and focus on their own individual projects. On behalf of all the members; Willie, Mike, Rob, Brian and even Que, we would like to thank all of the “fams” aka fans, dj’s across the world, promoters, radio programmers, Bad Boy Entertainment, Starstruck Management, BET, VH1 and FUSE and all DAY26 supporters in general, for your unending support throughout these years.”

“We would also like to acknowledge that this journey would have not been made possible without the vision and mastermind of Sean “Diddy” Combs and of course MTV Networks for making a group of unknown men, the stars that they are today.”

“We simply thank you from the bottom of our hearts and really want you to know that the journey does not end here. We continue to wish each other the very best and continued success in all of our individual endeavors, and all we ask of you is to please give each member a chance and the opportunity to shine in whatever they do.”

…And as the saying goes, this is not a goodbye, but a simply see you later.

God bless you all,

Much Love, DAY26.

Sigh. The whole Bad Boy narrative (past and present) continues to serve as one of the most frustrating in the industry. It’s one thing if the artists they signed on were wack (ala Cassie), however from Danity Kane to Total, to 112, to Day26, the once flourishing juggernaut boasted talent aplenty. And yet it’s also the imprint most noted for the sheer number of career gravestones it houses. Clearly, something in the milk isn’t clean. Most notably Diddy’s ego.

From the appearing on every song (“uh yeah, it’s Bad Boy”), to dancing like a tool in every video, to ultimately promoting himself over his brand, he’s done the equivalent of building an amazing house only to take a dump all over it. Multiple times. A mucky mess.

Here’s hoping Willie and co find the success they deserve, because -like the Danity Kane’s of the world- they’re too talented not to.

i got an idea. let me know your thoughts.
what if struggling singers and rappers came together and formed groups or duo or trio
that way they combine there indivisual fan bases. put out a hit song put out a hit album. up there status become relavent again. then disband and go back to being solo.
that way they can go back to how they were before when they origanaly was hot and be solo.

  2. nerd July 16, 2012

sorry not surprise that they are breaking up. why? because of management and the long wait after dropping a single. im pretty sure they got drop by their label.. what happen to there image.. they all got FAT again.

They did put on a lot of weight…..guess Diddy’s “boot camp” was actually necessary back then.

  4. KD July 16, 2012

I’m guessing Willie must have a big willy for him to be single out.

  7. Resistance July 16, 2012

    Black boy band?

  8. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) July 16, 2012

At least they disbanded in their own terms and with decency. I’m just so glad that Diddy and all of his new acts are re-defining flopping. He used both Danity Kane and Day 26 to get himself on TV, which is why he didn’t hesitate to turn ‘Making The Band’ into a reality show and add a thousand pointless seasons to it. He never truly promoted either band.

In other news, the sky is blue…

  10. ENOUGH ONIKA July 16, 2012

Hella late TGJ, its been almost a week. Anyway, we all saw this coming. Once Diddy dropped them, it’s been an irrelevant mess. Way too many egos going on for it to work. And the thing is, I can’t see anyone of them being successful solo. I wished they realized that before letting their menstrual cycles get the best of them…

    • Tasha July 16, 2012

  14. Ms. Mooks July 16, 2012

I thought they were already broken up. LMAO.
…I mean, who cares tho’? They was kinda wack anyway.

  15. That B*tch July 16, 2012

P.Diddy is a horrible boss. I’m not really surprised this band has broken up. I seen this coming since “Making the Band”.

  16. Sheesh July 16, 2012

I can’t even say that i’m surprised, No artist ever succeeds on Bad Boy.

  17. Ernest July 16, 2012

Not surprised at all. I mean groups aren’t making it anymore

  18. glum July 16, 2012

These lot were still together? Who knew a Diddy product would last this long?

  19. john July 16, 2012

what ever happened to donnie klang that boy could sing his b*** off. but im not suprised they break up.
diddy is known for ruining careers. the only reason why mary j still has a career is because she dumped him. while she was still hot. all the members of day26 are talented. but come on que was the star of the group. as soon as he left. majority of the fans left. if robert woulda got over their egos and woulda kept queen they probably soulda went gold. their new alumb does have some good songs. it just lacked proper promotion. and they no longer have a machine pusging them no more. they shoulda hired their own publist to help them get more press. they needed a better management team cause they current manager wasn’t doing much for them. and they needed to hire a booking agent to help them book paid appearances/ hosting gig to keep them working. they needed to hire a road manager/tour manager to set up a tour for them. to help them sell their alumbs. willie is having a lot of success doing stage plays and independent film so at least he got something to fall back on. que doing his thing independent, but i just dont see the rest of them having successful careers. 21. Theman4u July 16, 2012

Say what you want but they were stars when they were with Diddy and bad boy

  22. theman July 16, 2012

They won’t be a success more than likely by themselves, especially if they can’t do it together. They don’t have a huge following. They’ll just release free songs, and that will be it. They should have just stuck together as a group.

  23. theman July 16, 2012

Also, Bbands have been doing quite well lately….

  24. MISHKA July 16, 2012

I feel sorry for them, but you can’t blame Diddy for everything. He has his own life to live.

  25. Steve July 16, 2012

While I was a fan, this doesn’t surprise me at all. I knew that once Que left, the group wouldn’t rebound the way they should. Even after leaving Diddy & Bad Boy, people just lost interest.

  26. Cemirn Parker-Rock April 24, 2013

They sucked on their seond album
