For, in what can only mark a monumental moment in her career, this week saw her 2010 release ‘Teenage Dream‘ achieve a mind blowing feat, by enjoying a sales increase of 451% in the space of a single week.
Exciting details below…
Spearheaded by the release of her acclaimed ‘Popumentary’ ‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me’, the release rose by 22 spots on the Billboard 200 to #2 with sales of 76,555 copies.
Impressive, as the project is now two years old but outsold Justin Bieber’s ‘Believe’ and Usher‘s ‘Looking For Myself’, both of which were released less than a month ago.
Sat one spot beneath Chris Brown‘s ‘Fortune’, ‘Dream‘s sales boost meant she was a mere 57,000 units away from securing the #1 spot- a spot she may enjoy if sales of the album are unfazed by the release of Frank Ocean’s ‘Channel Orange‘ which is set to dethrone Brown in the coming week.
Thus far, ‘Dream’ has been certified 2x Platinum in the US, 3x Platinum in the UK and a whopping 4x Platinum in Canada, debuting with sales of 192,000 copies following its August 2010 launch.

Okay??? Umm, an album that came out a few years ago is selling better then albums that came out a few weeks ago. I bet the album came with movie tickets and counted as a sell. But still, this CD is still on top after two Rihanna CD, a Gaga and Britney. 6 #1′s and two top 3. I think this album will be our Control an will be remembered 20 years from now (as a POP album tho)

What do you do when all other sales tactics have failed besides remixing your songs to help boost the sales? you release a pointless movie that you know only the teen girls and gay queens are going to watch to help boost album sales and sales of your current single. I like the songs teenage dream, peacock, and wide awake. But after a certain point with his era they just started getting greedy and desperate and it gets old and annoying after a while. 2 yrs later and shes still milking this era. Most artists are already working on the follow up and ready to release it but leave it up to Katy to drag this shiy out. I wouldn’t be surprised if they released a remix album next year and included all the remixes what she’s done already and remix all the other songs.

Facts aren’t excuses. Her album was avaiable for 99 cents on Amazon and this explains why it had a huge increase this week. TD had a boost of 400% on sales!!! It shows that people were not willing to buy her album for the regular price.
She’s successful, but she isn’t that impressive album seller. She has been promoting TD for over 2 years, over 5 #1 hits, a re-release, disconteded album etc. TD ‘just’ sold 2.3 million which it isn’t that impressive. 4 sold 1.3 without a single hit and just a few live performances. Lady Gaga sold that in less than a year, without a re-release and with underperformed singles.

When Michael had 5 #1′s from Bad, the album itself was around 8 million in US sales alone. People didn’t JUST buy the singles. When TLC’s “Waterfalls” was at #1 for like 7 wks, people were simultaneously copping the CrazySexyCool album in droves.
None of these current hoes would have lasted pre-2003, back when music was a PHYSICAL experience and artists had to convince people to care enough to make an effort to get it (i.e. get in their car and drive to the record store.) Back in ’98, NOBODY would have bothered to do all that for a piece of shit song like “Wide Awake”. But people today will go ahead and click on an app on their PC or phone to buy that crap because it’s just that easy to. People won’t spend $11.99 on her whole CD, but if Amazon slashes it to the price of less than a single, they might lazily bother. This is all very embarrassing and I’m glad I was around to see when the music industry was booming like it’s supposed to.
Standards of success are in the toilet today and that’s the only reason this latest crop of pop stars are able to sustain their careers and don’t get laughed off the block (as they should) when their album moves less than 200k during release week. Once upon a time, that would have been enough to get a major artist dropped.

Actually, they spent over $12 million making the movie + budget for promo. I’d say they spent at least $15 million on her flop movie. It was expected to gross around $100 million, but it barely grossed $15 million to date. Probably, it will gross less than $25 million after all. LMFAO.
