Frank Ocean Opens Up On Sexuality

Published: Wednesday 4th Jul 2012 by David

After speculation surrounding his sexual orientation arose two nights ago, acclaimed lyricist Frank Ocean has addressed the mattern an open letter posted on his official Tumblr account this morning.

Without further delay, read his courageous words below…

Whoever you are, wherever you are… I’m starting to think we are a lot alike. Human beings spinning on blackness. All wanting to be seen, touched, heard, paid attention to. My loved ones are everything to me here. In the last year or 3, I’ve screamed at my creator. Screamed at clouds in the sky.

For some explanation. Mercy maybe. For peace of mind to rain like manna somehow. 4 Summers ago, I met somebody.

I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that Summer and the Summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide. Most of the day I’d see him, and his smile. I’d hear his conversation and his silence.. Until it was time to sleep. Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless.

There was no escaping.

No negotiating with the feeling. No choice. It was my first love. It changed my life. Back then, my mind would wander to the women I had been with. The ones I cared for and thought I was in love with. I reminisced about the sentimental songs I enjoyed when I was a teenager.

The ones I played when I experienced a girl too quickly. Imagine being thrown from a plane. I wasn’t in a plane though. I was in a Nissan Maxima. The same car I packed up with bags and drove to Los Angeles in. I sat there and told my friend how I felt. I wept as the words left my mouth. I grieved for them, know I could never take them back for myself. He patted my back. He said kind things. He did his best, but he wouldn’t admit the same.

He had to go back inside soon. I was late and his girlfriend was waiting for him upstairs. He wouldn’t tell me the truth about his feelings for me for another 3 years. I felt like I’d only imagined reciprocity for years.

Now imagine being thrown from a cliff. No. I wasn’t on a cliff. I was still in my car telling myself it was gonna be fine and to take deep breaths. I took the breaths and carried on. I kept up a peculiar friendship with him because I couldn’t imagine keeping up my life without him. I struggled to master myself and my emotions. I wasn’t always successful.

The dance went on.. I kept the rhythm for several Summers after.

It’s Winter now. I’m typing this on a plane back to Los Angeles from New Orleans. I flew home for another marred Christmas. I have a windowseat. It’s December 27, 2011. By now, I’ve written two albums. This being the second. I wrote to keep myself busy and sane.

I wanted to create worlds that were rosier than mine. I tried to channel overwhelming emotions. I’m surprised at how far all of it has taken me. Before writing this, I’d told some people my story. I’m sure these people kept me alive. Kept me safe… sincerely. These are the folks I wanna thank from the floor of my heart. Everyone of you knows who you are.. Great humans.

Probably angels. I don’t know what happens now, and that’s alright. I don’t have any secrets I need kept anymore. There’s probably some small shit still, but you know what I mean. I was never alone, as much as I felt like it..As much as I still do sometimes. I never was. I don’t think I ever could be. Thanks. To my first love, I’m grateful for you. Grateful that even though it wasn’t what I had hoped for and even though it was never enough, it was. Some things never are…And we were. I won’t forget you. I won’t forget the Summer.I’ll remember who I was when I met you.

I’ll remember who you were and how we both changed and stayed the same. I’ve never had more respect for life and living than I have right now. Maybe it takes a near death experience to feel alive.

Thanks. To my mother, you raised me strong. I know I’m only brave because you were first…So thank you. All of you. For everything good. I feel like a free man. If I listen closely, I can hear the sky falling too.

-Frank

While this can’t have been easy for him, we’re sure Frank’s bravery will only serve to strengthen his core fan base and their understanding of his material.

Yes, thought it may be considered ‘risky’ to make an announcement this big so close to the release of a new album, here’s hoping this teaches people to be a little more tolerant of all people.

After all, if he didn’t address the matter on ‘Channel Orange‘, the likelihood of his sexuality being a matter of public debate would have been slim to none…with his talent always the focal point of his cause.

Talent, we’re sure many will try and downplay in light of these revelations.

Revelations, that prove that no matter how hard one looks to ‘spot the signs’, there is no way of telling how a person feels inside.

Feelings, which are nobodies business but their own.

      Homosexuality is evil!!!!

      • David July 4, 2012

I agree! It’s always the same excuse by gay people: “I was born this way”, “I never chose to be gay”, “I have no choice it came naturally’.

Well God created Adam and Eve, And not Adam and Steve.

God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of HOMOSEXUALITY!!!

      • Jay J July 4, 2012

God wouldn’t create something he would hate. Gay or straight, we’re all created by HIM. Nobody chose to be straight, nobody chose to be gay. God made you who you were & how he wanted you to be. Remember that.

      • THE LEGENDARY LAX July 5, 2012

        AMEN!!!!! Preach @Jay J

      • Mander July 7, 2012

David: You hurt your own argument with this “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” mantra. It lets people know all you’re capable of is regurgitating a snappy rhyme, rather than working through a valid thought process. Grow up, get a brain and some balls, and start using them.

      • waddupdoe July 13, 2012

        being straight is evil……..

    • kelly July 4, 2012

So sad. People use to sell the souls to the devil…now they give them away for free. This man needs to pray and repent.

DICKHEAD TO ALL 3 COMMENTS ABOVE ME! HOW DARE YOU, THIS IS ONE OF THE BRAVEST THINGS A ARTIST HAS DONE IN A LONG TIME, HE NEEDS SOME GRAMMYS, AMA’S, BILLBOARD AWARDS OR SOMETHING, TO COME OUT IN THIS DAY AND AGE, ESPECIALLY BEING A BLACK MALE IN OFWGKTA THAT IS EXTREMELY BRAVE, HE NEEDS TO BE COMMENDED FOR THIS AND IF ANYONE CANT ACCEPT HIM AND APPLAUD HIS BRAVERY THEN THEY NEED TO BE SHIPPED BACK TO 1950, I AM PERSONALLY A GAY MALE, AND A ASPIRING MUSICIAN, DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH COOURAGE THIS HAS GIVEN ME, THIS GIVES ME HOPE THAT I CAN ACHIEVE MY DREAMS, AND BEING GAY IS NOOOOOOOOOOOT A CHOICE, I WAS BORN THIS WAY, DONT YOU THINK IF IT WAS A CHOICE DONT YOU THINK I WOULD LIVE A LIFE WITHOUT JUDGEMENT STUPID PEOPLE WHO DONT REALISE THE WORLD IS CHANGING AND GOD’S RULES ARE CHANGING, THE BIBLE IS 2000 YEARS OLD AND PROBABLY CORRUPT, DONT BE SO SURE, OHHHHHHH AND ITS ALSO A “ABOMINATION” TO EAT SHELL FISH, FOR WOMEN TO DEFY A MANS WORD AND FOR A CHILD TO TALK BACK TO A ADULT SO ARE YOU GONNA KILL YOUR CHLDREN OR BEAT YOUR WIFE COZ SHE ANSWERED YOU BACK? • Kelly’s a twat July 4, 2012

I bet you still believe that the world was created in 7 days when science proved it wrong. I bet you believe that the world is only 600o years old when that’s been proven wrong. Both facts. your god where are the proven facts oh sorry there isn’t any. Your the one going to hell and I hope the devil f**** you right up the a$$ you satanic b****. Keep your opinions to yourself. We don’t want to hear them. It’s people like you who cause hatred and killing in the world take a good look in the mirror. Your no better than Hitler.

      • Ryan April 8, 2013

Women like you should have their wombs ripped out without anaesthetic. If the likes of you are allowed to reproduce we’re ALL going to hell.

    • The Truth Will Set You Free July 4, 2012

Since you did not write a comment that was defended by anything substantial, I will address it as such….

      Shut the f*** up.

  2. aishaaguilerakeys July 4, 2012

Beautiful writing. I salute his bravour. But for me, at the end of the day his music is all that counts, I could care less about celebrities’ private lives.

    • HeavyHeavy July 4, 2012

Exactly, I hope this doesn’t discourage people from his talent and great music, real music!

      • robyn July 4, 2012

Totally Agree, His music is amazing. Looking forward to his album

  3. BEYONCE’S WEAVE July 4, 2012

N**** please!!!! Whatever….everyone knows “bisexual” is a code word for “top” in the black homosexual community. Samantha must be happy though now that he knows he might have a chance hahahaha.

    • Virtuoso Intellect July 4, 2012

      What a stonecold b**** !

      • BEYONCE’S WEAVE July 4, 2012

I agree, I am out of line. Good for Frank Ocean.

  5. Prince July 4, 2012

    WELL F**KING DONE!!!!

  6. Colyn Sasha Ball July 4, 2012

Well done frank, the letter is so personal . In a world were the media can make and break you, you stayed true to yourself x

  7. bobby d July 4, 2012

Very motivating words. It might not mean anything to some of you, but this was something I needed to hear tonight. He just might have saved me. Believe it or not, there are many of us who are gay, and dont want to be, but we try to accept ourselves. and every day I desperately want to escape myself and who I am. I guess it was nice to see Im not alone. Thank you Frank Ocean.

  8. Honestly Speaking July 4, 2012

Good for him…whether people want to admit it or not this is not only a major moment for the African American community but also for the largely homophobic R&B/Hip Hop community as well. I hope that him deciding to speak on his sexuality helps people and gives a voice and a face to those that felt alone beforehand. I also think that this is a great thing for his album considering that many people are saying that this is the first time that they’re even hearing/seeing his name. If nothing else this whole experience is going to serve for even more public awareness towards his music. I know that I will be supporting his album when it is released later this month and I hope that everyone who enjoyed his music beforehand will but aside their personal views and continue to do so instead of letting a limited or bigoted view of the world stop them from the consumption of genuinely good music.

  9. justme July 4, 2012

Now we know where that beautiful song I miss u came from.. Love him even more

  10. Latrell4Bey July 4, 2012

Im Proud Of Frank! All That Matters Is His Music. I Hope He Works With Beyonce More In The Future. I Love That Forrest Gump Song So Much. I Been A Fan and Will Stay A Fan. Channel Orange July 17th! Go Cop That Joint!

  11. ysjemee July 4, 2012

Nice letter. Touching words. Pure honesty.

  12. the real xoxo July 4, 2012

who cares? he doesnt rely on sexuality to be successful in music anyway unlike most other male r&b artists.

    • Virtuoso Intellect July 4, 2012

Like chris brown and trey songz who ironically have exhibited more gay tendencies than Frank

      • Diane July 4, 2012

What does Trey & Chris have to do with this post? I don’t see their names at the top of this page. Frank Ocean came out so it’s not a rumor but YOU are here spreading rumors on Trey & Chris. Please STFU and have a seat

      • the real xoxo July 4, 2012

also usher, neyo, omarion, dangelo nearly everyone!

      • Virtuoso Intellect July 4, 2012

Aww did i hurt a nerve fem team sleazy? Well f**k u. Chris n trey gay tendencies are not rumours. It’s a fact. I didnt say whether they’re gay or not. I couldnt care less either way, they’re both trash. Trey is sorta tolerable, chris he just needs to _____

  13. Life July 4, 2012

This was beautiful. I can relate to his story. I, myself, am in love & can’t be with the man whom I love. I don’t understand why same-s** relationships are a big deal. When you love someone, gender doesn’t matter. It’s entirely refreshing to know that I’m not alone. I have an affinity for eclectic, black men who are introspective. 🙂

    • kelly July 4, 2012

I am sure many grown men love animals and kids.

      • Life July 4, 2012

As is your puerility is obvious. 🙂

      • winning July 4, 2012

You Kelly clearly dont have a man , cant get one because no one wnats your trifing ugly ascss… Go find a warm cucumber to sit on ya old h**

  14. chase July 4, 2012

Amazing i RESPECT him so much and people that hate on this are the reasons why humans are evil, God Bless u Frank, this story is like my life WOW !

He is know my fav Male singer!!!

  15. The Shade July 4, 2012

I always wonder why people hate gay people so much Do you wannna know WHY cus you make us hate you (not all) perez 4 example and @beyonceweave etc I’m happy for him good for you frank

    • Benron July 4, 2012

Stfu Beyonce’s weave is an amazing human being.

  16. Unknown July 4, 2012

The only difference between you and I, is that Im married to a women. And the man that I’m in love with is H**+ but I my self is negative, which I just found out but how can I live my live like this? Ever since he told me i’am crushed still love him bit I don’t know what should I do, and I may live him then he loves me, im stuck I love my wife dearly I never had unprotected s** with him , still I can’t relid on condoms but I love him them both equally… What should I do….?

    • josh July 4, 2012

75% of the men out there are facing the same problem you are facing. I’m gay and I have plenty of male friends who are married and being unfaithful to their wife while they have a man on the side as their #1 love in their life. When Frank came out he said that he was bi but here the whole story changed because this might hurt his album sales by f****** woman and men. Another friend of mine is H

      • josh July 4, 2012

is H** + and have a wife also. I tell you I love me some Frank Ocean and I hope he be very careful out there because there are always mean men out there who are H.I.V and will break that condom to give it to him while it gets passed to his lady friend.

  17. RocksKisses July 4, 2012

Wow Am Amazed :)His A Great Guy And I Salute Him For This…Any Ways Who Doesn’t Want Some Hard Legs In Their Blankets Theses Days?Just Get Over Its And Give The Brother A Damn Break#Haters

  18. Chile Please!! July 4, 2012

On some real!! Who gives a flick of the wrist about somebody being gay. Trust!! They’re a lot of artist out there on the DL but still in the closet. I don’t even know who Frank Ocean is……..***BILLY OCEAN’S son? lol*** …….all I know is he’s kinda cute though. NEXT!!!

    • Sheltop July 5, 2012

exactlly I’m a fashion designer. i know for a FACT Frank Ocean is not the only Male in the business that likes Guy as well as females.

  19. Kamie July 4, 2012

Still one of my favorite singers of all time. Don’t care what your sexual orientation is. Everyone deserves peace and happiness and with this I hope you have found your peace.

  20. Reek July 4, 2012

I’m not God so I won’t judge him..he’s courageous enough tho to come out and speak but mr.frank, always know that homosexuality is a curse from hell..I don’t care what people here say but always know that it’s in the bible and for those of y who are gays and are happy..ur a captivity of hell..read ur bibles and always respect God.

  21. bigboi July 4, 2012

Lets keep it 100!! this is defo going to affect his sales.. the demographics he appeals to arent going to accept this!he might not nessecaryly lose fans but he will loose payin customers. alot of female may stop listening to him because now they cant fanatize abt him without thinking that hes gay. i hope he does well but only time will tell if this is truly a good career move. in thw music busoness your private life is just as important as your public. Look at CB him hitting rihanna was a private evebt which effected his business!!

Well lets see how this goes

    • robyn July 4, 2012

I think it may actually help his sales. He is honest and makes damn good music. I am female and could care less about fantasizing about Frank Ocean, Don’t know why it was anybodys business to begin with.

      • bigboi July 4, 2012

I feel you homie…I really do hope it goes well for him doe. A ‘gay’ rnb singer..But hey like I said we will see how this goes

  22. Virtuoso Intellect July 4, 2012

Wow he is cute in the video, just not photogenic. He’s too intelligent to substitute descrpitive words with cuss words. I know sometimes, there’s just no other way to drive your mesage home lol

  23. Not Impressed July 4, 2012

Meh. Won’t be buying his album. I mean it wasn’t like I was planning to anyway, but this just guaranteed that I never will. Sorry but I don’t relate to men singing love songs to other men and on the real it’s nothing I really wanna hear. More power to him but I’m passing on Frank.

Nas’s new album comes out the same day, I’ll cop that one instead.

    • Diane July 4, 2012

I happen to agree with you because just like Miguel who also came out the closet admitting he was gay can’t seem to get his career afloat. I love Miguel but thinking of him singing a song not related to a woman will make me think twice of buying it. Did you know that some of the biggest artist are gay but refuse to come out because some of their biggest fans are woman. Women are the biggest buyers of music today.

And to all these women on here saying more power to him probably won’t buy his album. All this is big f***** talk.

      • Rogue July 4, 2012

time has change our generation is not like what it use to be before..so yes i’ll be buying his album. welcome to 2012

  24. JDGAF July 4, 2012

Does he expect to be played on the radio after this? Damn man, this is f***** up cause I LIKED his song “Nature Feels”, but I can’t rock with it no more.

  25. Virtuoso Intellect July 4, 2012

Wait, he’s affiliated with Tyler, the creator as in the most unapologetic homophobe in the industry ?!?!?! Lmao the jokes write themselves

    • marizeepan July 4, 2012

mmm pretty sure that if you knew anything about tyler you would know that hes not a homophobe at all. His songs and what he says are more in a jokular sense alsssoo if you cared to know, syd, the DJ is a lesbian. Kinda hard to be a homophobe when your touring with an out lesbian.

  26. Absolved July 4, 2012

    😯
    Well alrighty then…………
Um, good luck with your career Frank.

  27. Jay Jay July 4, 2012

Idc if he’s gay, bi, or straight im still checking that album!

  28. Joya July 4, 2012

This just makes me appreciate Trey all the more.

    • MsThing485 July 4, 2012

      😆
      I know, right.

  29. tyler July 4, 2012

lmfaoo im sorry but folks are gonna bash him hard especially on radios but i applaud him….. he is brave. but i never was interested in his music before he admitted this or afterwards. so hope it all works for him.

    • mob July 4, 2012

How is his own crew going to treat him? Tyler the Creator is forever bashing GAY PEOPLE! The Gay community protested last yr when he won tha Best New Artist Award at he 2011 MTV VMAs.

  30. Ren July 4, 2012

“…with his talent always the focal point of his cause.”

Please. This is probably the most public attention he’s gotten since he came onto the scene. If he’s gay then he’s gay, but let’s not pretend that he didn’t just pigeonhole himself with this declaration. From here on out “gay” is going to be what’s most talked about where he’s concerned, not his music — no matter how good it is or how much talent he has. It’s just like what happened with D’Angelo after he did that naked video and people started to ignore his artistry and just wanted to focus on him as a s** symbol. Sensational has a habit of overwhelming sincerity. It’s naive to think that Frank’s being gay, bi or whatever is going to not matter as much to the general public as his music.

    • mob July 4, 2012

Honestly , what you just typed is spot on! It’s quite similar to what has happened to Jennifer Hudson. She is now almost solely defind by her family traggedy and HER WEIGHT LOSS! J-Hud has one of the most powerful voices in the game yet all the media wants to discuss is her DAMN WEIGHT LOSS! And yes, I know she is a spokes person for “Weight Watchers” but she is only one of many celebs throughout the years to repesent the same org. but she’s the only one I see being pigeonhole & DEFINED BY IT! IMO

  31. Matty July 4, 2012

    i love you frank!!

  32. KD July 4, 2012

Ordinarily I would never read anything that LONG on TGJ but wow, the brotha can write.

    • Virtuoso Intellect July 4, 2012

Too right. I couldnt even finish reading Lauryn’s letter lol

      • KD July 4, 2012

LOL me too. I found myself thinking would this chick Just get to the point. With this letter I found myself wanting an encore.

  33. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) July 4, 2012

I never even cared about him before, but I do respect brave and creative people, so if he brings out anything half-decent, I might start checking for him. I’m not homophobic anyway and I don’t condone discrimination of any kind, so in this case, I guess I’m rooting for him. Besides, I’m a little tired of the same ol’ themes in r n’ b music, so he might be able to switch it up a little, which is intriguing.

P.S: There are ways to write an open letter without acting like a poet and a mastermind. Sometimes, beauty lies in simplicity. His whole open letter seemed a little…over the top. Still, no judgmenet. Just saying…

    • Virtuoso Intellect July 4, 2012

Writing is what he does for a living, i think his letter is relatively simply written and easily comprehensible save for maybe a few analogies but i dont think it was OTT at all. Im surprised u think that but I respect your opinion

  34. ADC143 July 4, 2012

So is he gonna switch over and start making dance music now? Because *let’s be real* out gay R&B singers don’t play on the radio anywhere. I’m having a hard time imagining him in rotation with Rick Ross, Liil Wayne and Chris Brown.

  35. Korrenzo July 4, 2012

I’m totally buying his music now! LOL. IDC how it sounds…after I get off deployment that CD is mine. This is the kind of artist I want to support.

  36. kijano July 4, 2012

very touching and brave. His music makes even more sense now. I’m with you Frank

  37. Kb July 4, 2012

That doesnt change my love for his music in any way. Im a STRAIGHT man and i still love him as an artist an will buy his album…i just hope people wont change their opinion about him. We live in an ignorant world full of dumbfucks so it could be the case.
He is nothing but a genius.
    Thats all i can say

  38. CzarM July 4, 2012

Errr…what target demographic is he looking to play to now?

Mainstream urban radio ain’t gonna play him cause he’s gay.
Mainstream top 40/Pop radio ain’t gonna play him cause he’s gay, black and R&B.

His marketability is a bit limited, to say the least.

Methinks Frank better plan on carving out a niche for himself as some kind of alternative soul touring act for underground clubs and coffee houses that can appreciate abstract, because I’m having a hard time fitting him into any mainstream demographic.

    • mob July 4, 2012

He will be supported as you may have noticed, there are MANY, MANY, MANY Homesexuals in control of the media. He wont have the success of Adam Lambert (arrested for DV against his boyfriend by the way but the media never mentions it) for obvious reason’s, but they will make a lane for him now that they know his status. You can believe that!

  39. Peter Griffin July 4, 2012

Lol, is every guy gay on this blog! Kinda weird finding out when people are gay but if all the closet gays came out the next generations to come won’t feel as awkward as I do. I’m not homophobic but I don’t like listening to music by gay men people. I can’t help it, I just keep think about bumming, vom! But I think it’s better when popstars come out rather than do a John Travolta.

  40. S*** B**** July 4, 2012

I just became a fan. Thanks Frank Ocean for your honest words! God bless you!!

    • X,Y,”and Z” July 4, 2012

      @S*** B**** —

I hope you have a LOOOONG talk with one of your girlfriends – who f*** dudes who go both ways – and catch diseases!

Frank Ocean’s career, whatever little one he had, is now FINISHED!!

HIS CAREER IS NOW OFFICIALLY OVER!!!

Trust, if Frank Ocean dares to now set foot in the “3’rd” World: http://www.worldstaruncut.com/u****/38302

      • Holly July 4, 2012

I don’t agree on everything you said but seeing that gay man getting burned up alive was horrible. Oh and yes Frank Ocean better not set foot nor send his music over in the third world countries

  41. X,Y,”and Z” July 4, 2012

WHEN ‘MAN LOVE MAN’: PATHETIC! UNNATURAL! UNBALANCED! IRRATIONAL! DISEASE! CONFUSION! DISGUSTING! SIN! EVIL! SACRILEGIOUS! ABSOLUTE FUCKRY..!!

Frank Ocean, you’re going to hell; while there, your soul will burn in an eternal damnation!

Frank Ocean, you now leave yourself NO recourse; do now the only “righteous” thing: Old Testament and razor blade.

Frank Ocean, call your companion Drake. Tell him he’s long ago been suspected – Wheelchair Jimmy ain’t foolin’ no one!

(*Meh..* Now we know why he didn’t make that U-turn..)

        “Struggle,” “Ignorance,” “Hardship,” “Get Help”….?!

Man must NEVER think himself equal to God!! God is INFINITE in his wisdom, and PERFECT in all creation; what fool stands against the Word Of God:

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”(Leviticus 20:13 KJV)

        @Girrrrl re: July 4th —

Sorry, but as much as you’re in absolute misery, and as much as misery just LOVES company – neither Chris Brown, nor I are homosexual!

You see, you can’t be accept-of, nor ‘complicitious in your silence’ of homosexuality, and then claim that you “love life”. It’s nonsensical. It’s irregular. It’s asymmetrical. It won’t work!

You Support women beaters and you want to condemn Frank Ocean? You are such a hypocrite. If your God hates gays so much, why did he create them?

        “You support woman beaters”

But I DON’T “support woman beaters” – who would?!

Chris Brown did NOTHING wrong on Feb 8th, 2009, but only defended himself from Rihanna’s unwarranted, viscous and relentless attacks (according to Rihanna’s GOOD friends over at TMZ):

“Sources say Rihanna was the first one to strike — slapping and striking Brown “numerous times” while he was driving, after seeing the text message from another woman. And Rihanna was fighting Brown. We’re told much of this is reflected in the official police report based on what Rihanna told cops.”

Here, read about Rihanna’s treachery for yourself: http://www.tmz.com/2009/03/09/brown-wants-misdemeanor-plea-no-jail-time/

“If your God hates gays so much, why did he create them?”

GREAT question!! Your best yet! Your one “moment of clarity”, ‘eh?

God gives us choices, yes? OF COURSE HE DOES – A DUH!!!

..That said, with Frank Ocean’s CHOICES to ‘suck penis and take d*** up the ass’ now condemns him to an eternal, fiery damnation.

God HATES the “Frank Oceans'” of this world. He ALSO hates YOU: Frank Ocean’s “f**-hagging”enablers:

(Leviticus 20:13) “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”

“No str8 man, who is comfortable with himself, acts like this..”

But you-yourself are homosexual (I checked your link), how do YOU know what/how a “straight man” acts?!?!?

Gay/bisexual black men are THE #1 reason for A*** in the black community. This is a fact that you, nor no other sodomite can deny.

God hates the homosexual. God hates YOU! You sodomites are vectors for sadness, disease, darkness and death!

Here, let me show YOU how “str8 men act” when they have the “misfortune” of coming across homosexuals: http://www.worldstaruncut.com/u****/38302

      “not going to judge”

You don’t have to.. God, Lord Of All Creation, already has passed “judgement”, and has thus ruled (Leviticus 20:13):

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

3- I Miss YOu It was written by Beyonce Knowles& Frank Ocean
    MASTERPIECE
    ALBUM ‘4’

    • Dejae July 4, 2012

Dag and I sort of liked that song too. Thankfully he didn’t write my more favorite songs on that album. I’d cry if he was behind “Start Over,” “Countdown” or “I Was Here.”

      • DANCE! July 4, 2012

Uhhhh gay songwriters write a lot of the songs that you probably love on the radio and you do know Beyonce’s creative director is gay right? lol And I’m hoping you are a woman making this comment cus I don’t know many straight men who have a Beyonce CD on repeat! lol

    • EnRanc July 4, 2012

I’ll never be able to listen to “I Miss You” again.

  44. Shymir06 July 4, 2012

Just deleted the one song of his I had from my iTunes. Hopefully for his sake he can build an audience that will support him and his music and not care about his sexual orientation, but I can’t and won’t pretend that I can be part of that group. I simply don’t condone homosexuality from a social, political or spiritual level.

    • hmmmmmmmmm July 4, 2012

Totally agree!!! I just can’t listen to songs of a man singing to his male partner. Its evil and nasty!!!1

    • JYPROCRITES IN HIGH AND LOW PLACES June 6, 2013

YOU ARE A HYPROCRITE! YOU SHOULD JUST DELETE MOST OF YOUR MUSIC FROM iTunes THEN.

  45. CeeJaye July 4, 2012

As a Christian I don’t agree with the homosexual lifestyle, but we’re all free to be and so is he. Far as his music goes, can’t say that I’d be comfortable with listening or having my children/nieces/nephews listen to it, but again we all have choices and if others can enjoy his themes then I welcome them to it! 🙂

  46. Vince July 4, 2012

He should feel proud of himself.
A lot of young people need role models and having someone like him is great. This is guy is really talented and if people dislike him because he’s gay then they aren’t worthy of his talent.

I’ll be looing out for his music from now on, just knew he was good but never really looked into it. 😉

    • Holly July 4, 2012

If any other artist wrote a letter and came out the closet telling he is bi-sexual, you people would throw them under the f****** buss because you same people don’t like that artist. So don’t sit here talking that I so proud of him b******* when we all know damn well you’re lying. Now if you people don’t have a problem with a man being bi-sexual which means putting his d*** in a mans ass then having s** with his lady which is probably sucking his s***** d***. If you are for that then more power to you. Being gay is one thing but being bi-sexual is another. Women think about it.

      • China July 4, 2012

        AMEN

      • bluejai07 July 5, 2012

As a bisexual woman, I can’t disagree more! What about a man who puts his d*** in a woman’s v***** and then puts it in a different woman’s v*****? What about a man who puts his d*** in a woman’s ass and then has s** w/ a different woman , who will then be “sucking his s***** d***??” Oh wait, that’s totally fine and safe because he’s w/ someone of the same gender?? WTF are you talking about??!!! Unprotected promiscuous s** is dangerous regardless of gender. What exactly are you afraid of anyway? Do you think we (bisexuals) are just whores who sleep w/ everyone and can’t stay faithful in a relationship? Straight people have lots of dating options too (ethnicity, hair color, body type, weight, etc), yet no one automatically assumes that they want to f*** every single person of the opposite gender and can’t keep it in their pants. If you don’t want to be w/ a bisexual man, then don’t date one. No one is putting a gun to your head and forcing you. But it is not up to you to determine which gender anyone else should or shouldn’t be attracted to or who anyone else should date.

  47. ILOVEKELLY July 4, 2012

I respect the hell out of him right now. It takes a real man to do something like that because being like that can break you in the music industry. I cant do nothing but respect you but how you live your life has nothing to do with me that’s your choice and i still will support your music which i love because your talented and its deep..

  48. DANCE! July 4, 2012

People who are saying that they won’t listen to his music because he’s gay are stupid. You do know that a lot of songwriters are gay right and write songs for a lot of your faves. What difference does it make? It’s a love song you apply it to whomever ever you have those feelings for, guy or girl. It’s like the majority of songs from female artists are written by men. So what they are singing is gay?

    • Avenger July 4, 2012

That’s stupid. The majority of male songwriters who write for women aren’t writing out some gay fantasy…they know they’re writing a song for a woman and are telling a story accordingly.

I don’t know about you, but it would be kind of a stretch to hear a dude blatantly singing about his love for another dude and manipulating myself into applying that theme to my own personal situation. Maybe you can mind f*** yourself like that, but I’m far too literal. I simply wouldn’t be able to relate to the guys music and would opt to not bother with it.

      • Ny July 4, 2012

Yeah thats for you because your SELFISH, how do you think gay people felt all these years having to sing along to a song between a male and female, and not complain, gay people dont have anyone to look up too in the music biz, they have no people to aspire too, frank has just given the courage to alot of people, but you dont realise it, gay people should be allowed to have a voice and sing there true feelings

  49. Gees July 4, 2012

Wasnt buying the album anyway but do artist not care how sloppy they are with their “tactics to sell albums or get the publicity . Come on frank you tell us this right before your album drops? You don’t see the correlation? lol I’m starting to think people truly with go through high depths for fame & money. why do we need to know about who you’re sexing? Sorry not buying it, but good luck though

  50. MsThing485 July 4, 2012

While I support Frank’s right to his own artist and man, who openly acknowledges his love for other men, but I’d be lying through my teeth if I said that this didn’t change anything and that I’m still as endeared to him and his music as I may have been before. As bold and earnest as his declaration was, the truth is that it put up an alienating wall as far as I’m concerned. He’s not *for* me and my interests as a music listeners, and that’s fine. Frank’s audience can rock with him if they can appreciate what he does and this extra bit of candor he revealed; in the meantime I’ll rock with male singers who love women and make music detailing it.

No but in all honesty, I wish him well and know he will be fine. The ppl that like him with continue to supporrt him. I’m not a fan after Chris Brown complimented him and he insulted him about something that HAPPENED IN HIS T*** LIFE! Funny how Frank made sure to add that he was also in his T*** YEARS when his encounter occured!

How in the hell is another black b*** pirate good fir the black community? Gtfoh.

    • SBC19 July 4, 2012

He’s not. Homosexuality does not need to be promoted, embraced, or become mainstream, in the black community; furthermore we should not be sending the message to our youth that it’s perfectly acceptable that a boy likes another boy. We need to reaffirm that males and females are a physical and spiritual fit for each other – despite what the flaky liberal left tries to perpetuate in the media.

  57. 12345 July 4, 2012

  58. XYZ July 4, 2012

I have absoloutely nothing but love and respect for Frank as a muscian.

As he so beautifully puts it in “I Miss You”, it doesn’t matter WHO you love. Love has nothing to do with gender. It’s a feeling!! And feelings shouldn’t have to be defined by gender, or race, or what people view asright and wrong. Who is anyone to judge him, or anyone else for that matter, for being blessed with the capacity to love someone unconditionally, regardless of gender and what ‘society’ expects of us as men and women? Love should be celebrated, not abhored.

Keep making ur music, dude!! Endless respect.

    • X,Y,”and Z” July 4, 2012

      ATTENTION ThatGrapeJuice, and @Fake XYZ,

You’re not me. Check the avatar!

For the record: Frank Ocean is a homosexual. God absolutely HATES homosexuals. Homosexuals will burn in hell!

      God Hates Homosexuals:

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”

Question: If God hates homosexuals, and you then do the work of God: Kill A Homosexual – have you, who has done the “Will Of God”, then sinned? I think not!

      X,Y,”and Z” — OUT..!!

      • XYZ July 4, 2012

I don’t know you. Nor do I want to be you.

You’re entitled to your views, but I still stand by mine. I too believe in God, but I can see that the Bible is full of contradictions. So long as I am true to myself and treat those around me with due respect and kindness, regardless of gender, race, sexual preference, etc., then I can sleep well at night.

It really astounds me, however, that someone who so obviously considers themselves a person of God, has so much damn hatred in their hearts. How does that work?

Frank Ocean makes dope music, regardless of who he chooses to love. That’s all there is to it really.

      • X,Y,”and Z” July 4, 2012

        @FAKE XYZ re: 2:04 pm —

“I don’t know you. Nor do I want to be you.”

You “don’t want to be me” – then change your name! Use your own name! You know what, nevermind.. it’s a complement: you wanna be me, but you can’t be, so you’re mad at me..

        “..Bible is full of contradictions”

There’s ZERO contradiction as to God’s “intents and purposes” regarding homosexuality – his words need no such translation – they are direct, forthright, foretelling, absolute, and without ambiguity:

(Leviticus 20:13) “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”

“So long as I am true to myself and treat those around me with due respect and kindness, regardless of gender, race, sexual preference, etc., then I can sleep well at night.”

*Bah..* That makes you an “enabler”; little else! You are AS complicit, within your ‘accepting silence’, as the sodomite is, in his overt sacrilege!

“..has so much damn hatred in their hearts. How does that work?”

So because I elect to closely adhere to the Word Of God, and vehemently disagree with you in doing so, I NOW have “hatred in my heart”..?!?! You tell ME: How does THAT work??

“Frank Ocean makes dope music, regardless of who he chooses to love. That’s all there is to it really.”

“Dope music” is purely subjective, and obviously relative. But the facts support MY argument(s): “the ‘Frank Oceans’ of this world are T-H-E #1 reason for the spread of A*** in the black community”! There is NO heterosexual black woman who’ll now support Frank Ocean – there’s now NO heterosexual black male artist who’ll now openly collaborate with Frank Ocean…

Long-story short: Frank Ocean’s career is FINISHED – and rightfully so – and not a moment too soon…!!!!

        X,Y,”and Z”

      • XYZ July 4, 2012

All I can do is laugh at you. I’m sorry, you are entitled to your views as much as I am to mine, but I think the majority of what you say is a complete joke. You use the Bible as a thinly veiled attempt to justify your hatred for a particular sort of person, when in actuality that same book also preaches love and free will. I’m sure you, like so many others, are highly selective in what you choose to adhere to and believe with regards to Christianity. Are you really to tell me that you haven’t had s** before marriage? And that you would allow your own daughter to marry the man that r**** her?

        Continue hating and preaching hatred.

  63. Dustin July 4, 2012

It’s strange. I was always indifferent about his music. I don’t know if that will change but I feel intensely connected to him on a human level after that letter. He encapsulated my first love experience as well. It’s not a gay/bi/straight thing, it’s a HUMAN thing.

For better or worse this man is a trailblazer. Bravo Frank.

On an aside, he should be writing novels. What a beautifully poetic piece of prose that was.

    • Meet the Birth Son of Prince July 4, 2012

  64. Miguel July 4, 2012

  65. David July 4, 2012

Good for you Frank Ocean. Like Malcolm X said, Freedom and Peace go hand in hand….

  66. John July 4, 2012

This won’t affect his career at all. I personally think if he creates great music, it will sell. Example: Freddie Mercury. Sexuality has not to do with music.
Think it’s very cruel people coming on here saying ‘i’m not buying his music, he’s a f**’
Imagine if a white person wrote for people to say ‘I’m not buying any black peoples music because i don’t like their skin color’
People need to stop being so judgmental and realize times have changed.
Sexuality is NOT made by choice, it’s just something that is. Trust me, imagine if your went through discrimination for most of your life for being gay, black, female, disabled whatever, i’m sure if you had the choice, you would change.
Some of these comments have seriously made me sick, people need to get a grip. Cruel Bastards.

    • Acem July 4, 2012

No one came on here and said “I’m not buying his music, he’s a f**.” Stop putting words into peoples mouths. Some have said that they no longer identify with him on a personal level because of this, and therefore can’t relate his music, which is no where near sinister as you’re trying to make it sound. No one is obligated to be his fan, despite the announcement he’s made. Very few people support celebrities on a totally unconditional level.

And there are plenty of white people who don’t relate to black music, and tend to avoid it; that’s their opinion/choice. No one is going to die because of it.

We don’t live in a world where everyone has to support everyone else at all times.

  67. X,Y,”and Z” July 4, 2012

Frank Ocean will burn in eternal damnation:

God, Lord Of All The Mighty, HATES Homosexuals. God, Lord Of All Creation, Wants YOU To Destroy Homosexuals:

  68. dakkylove July 4, 2012

ok so who is this friend he is in love with Miguel??? it will be intersting to see how the black media handles this.

  69. MusicBoyKameron July 4, 2012

When Frank 1st hit the music scene. I instantly fell in love with his music and I couldn’t grasp why I could relate to this guy’s music so much. It was like every song he put out was a chapter from my life.He lyric arrangements were sometimes confusing for some of my friends but I understood everything he was saying.

Being a gay African American male, I really respect Frank for his honesty and being a postive role model for everyone, not just gay or bi individuals. It takes a brave, strong person to take a road that isn’t a popular one. Especially being in a music industry full of artists hiding in the closet. I don’t think his honesty will have a negative impact on his career. This would make me want to work with him even more because I know he’ll understand where I’m coming from.

  70. DeL_Cappella July 4, 2012

His music isn’t gay, straight, or bi… No one went ballistic when Nicki Minaj had the bi thing surfacing around? But when it’s a man all of a sudden you can’t be a fan of him? I simply do not get it…he is a very charasmatic artist and has such a way with words…Dear, Frank I support you

  71. Marcus July 4, 2012

Isn’t it funny that the biggest bigot on this blog X, Y and Z is most likely the biggest f** of them all…dude, your “love” for Chris Brown, and your never-ending “I hate 30-something year old Kelly Rowland” rants, is not natural and the furthest thing from masculinity so kindly get of your high horse you arrogant p****.

No one chooses such a life and honestly I truly commend him for having the guts to declare his truth and reality in such a cold and hateful world.

It saddens me the world we live in and how people so viciously judge others. I just can’t really understand how people can feel justified in their own judgement of others. How is it appropriate to say that you are a “christian” and quote scriptures to support your judgement of others? If I am not mistaken, the bible also says in Luke 6:37 (NIV) “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven.” I truly believe if we feel that the actions of others are so against what God says, we as “christians” should pray for that person. We should not try to do God’s work. We all are so imperfect ourselves that we should be more focused on making sure our own lives are as aligned with God’s word as possible. We need to realize how much we allow others’ ways of living and views control our own destiny. I thought being a “christian” was based on a RELATIONSHIP with God. Any RELATIONSHIP is a personal thing shared between two parties. i.e. My relationship with my mother is totally different than my brother’s relationship with my mother but we both have the highest level of love and respect for her in our own rights. We in fact are not God so how do we know exactly what he has for the next person. No sin is greater than the next and he knows that we all are sinners. He knows, before we even know, what action we are going to take, what thoughts are going through our minds, what emotions we feel. Bring it to God and leave it with God to handle.

Secondly, i really don’t understand how people can really say that because he is homosexual that they can’t listen to his music anymore. “i cant see myself listening to a song about a man singing to another man…etc. etc.) We don’t know what motivates and triggers the lyrics and messages of any song. Only that writer knows. Do you all realize that many of the artist we all listen to get their songs from writers who have tested their songs with other artist. There are many female artist who’s songs are written by men and visa versa but you and I both jam to whatever song we relate to because we interpret our own meaning in the lyrics and the emotion that the music actually invokes in us. To avoid being hypocritical you would have to research the credits of every song that you have ever listened to/liked, interview the writer(s) and hope/pray that their response is the truth……you will never know.

I don’t necessarily commend him for publicly sharing his sexual preference but I do commend the honesty. There is too many lies and false lives in this world. I don’t wish anyone and less success in their lives for any reason. I pray for Frank Ocean the same way i pray for all of you. I pray that God has his way in all of our lives and that HIS will be done for all of us. I pray that we all learn to be completely honest with ourselves and the world. I pray that we all mature in our minds and hearts and learn to accept the fact that not one person in this world is going to be the exact way we want them to be. And i pray that we all learn how to pray for each other regularly, learn to focus on being the individual that God wants each of us to be, and learn to give God ALL the glory honor in praise in the process. In Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

    You ALL BE BLESSED
