Though faring better worldwide holistically than it is in the US, last month saw Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday : Roman Reloaded‘ certified Platinum for shipments of 1 million copies.
Prompted by the rise in its demand- following the launch of her world tour and the release of the smash hit single ‘Pound The Alarm’, the LP’s certification received somewhat of a promo boost last night when the Rapper was awarded with its plaque.
In the above snap, Cash Money exec Baby can be seen presenting Minaj with the Platinum plaque during a showing of her tour in the Southern city of New Orleans.

Though a tad premature, ‘Reloaded’s Platinum status only serves as a testament to Minaj’s growing craze.
For as any retailer would agree, outlets will only request LPs if they have good reason to believe they will sell- and sell fast.
This, despite its so so US sales, is the reason ‘Reloaded’ was awarded with the plaque despite being a cool 400,000 copies away from actually selling a million copies.
However, while the above may be used to criticize Minaj, it does little to change the fact that she is- save for Lauryn Hill- is one of the fastest selling Femcees in chart history.
Selling more units worldwide in two years than Rap Queen Lil Kim has sold in fifteen.

I guess what’s not understood is that the retailers are the ones who orders the 1 or 2 million copies from the label at lot box prices and then the retailer upsells the album at retail price at the outlet. So the album is bought and sold regardless. So yes the album shipped over a million copied b/c of demand and purchase by the retailer. It’s not a flop. It’s bought and paid for.

I hope her next album is classic! She should do 2 disc, 1 Pop & 1 Hip-Hop, but congratz to Nicki. That approach will make a more noticeable divide in her music.
I haven’t completely given up on Nicki, i do believe she has potential for greatness! She just needs to polish her sound, tone down her look and go back to being raw like she use too.

Nicki Minaj stil has a lot of singles she can release from PF:RR and she is on tour which will surely boost the album sales. She still has time to push the album and to be honest, I don’t see it ending with 1 Million by the end of the year.
Though I’m a Nicki Minaj fan, I think PF:RR only target one segment of her fan-base whereas ignoring her other fan-base. She needs to pull it back to PF which targeted a diverse group of her fan-base. Here’s hoping the third album does that. Good effort anyway.

When you figure in the cost of her videos and the cost of her entourage, lawyers, PR and the cost of costumes,wigs, housing traveling expenses and all other lavish regular life expenses and cosmetic procedures/upkeep etc etc etc and minus it from the measly 1,000,000 and something copies that have sold presently is hardly a success boo whats being put out is far out weighing what is being brought it, so PSYCH urself DAHLING! Through the sales week ending on July 1, Nielsen SoundScan reports that the disc has sold 3.69 million copies, making it the only disc this year that has sold more than one million. Wayyyy behind is the year’s surprise #2, veteran R&B singer Lionel Richie’s country duets album Tuskegee (912,000), followed closely by One Direction’s Up All Night (899,000), a greatest hits collection from the late Whitney Houston (818,000) and the NOW 41 hits compilation (714,000).
Rounding out the top 10: Carrie Underwood, Blown Away (602,000), Luke Bryan, Tailgates & Tanlines (575,000), Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (557,000), Drake, Take Care (549,000) and Adele’s debut, 19 (539,000). What am I reading? Are you guys telling me that Birdman presented her a platinum plaque and she only sold 600k albums in the US. That is totally embarrassing. I guess Flex’s comments to her at Summer Jam really got under her skin. That’s funny as hell. She desn’t have anything to proves. Gold is successful. But I guess compared to her last album it is a failure. People can only take gimmicks for so long. Substances always rules. Nicki Minaj in my opinion is a sell out.
