Seven months have passed since Melanie Amaro was crowned the first winner of The X Factor USA.
In the period following, the 20 year old has been hard on her debut offering – the lead single from which she announced this week.
Christened ‘Don’t Fail Me Now’, the track is set to to debut tomorrow via Epic Records.
With the reality arena becoming increasingly crowded and the act’s post-show success growing ever scarce, Ms. Amaro will need to come packing all sorts of heat to ensure she blazes the charts. Tomorrow carries with it the first indication of whether she will.

The cover looks painfully cheap so I’m hoping that the actual song will sound like some effort actually went into making her debut single a success. I’m also wondering why we’re just now hearing her first official single almost a year after winning the competition. This is why new artists (especially black artists) aren’t successful in the industry. Her team and her label are already showing no interest in properly promotion her as a serious artist. Regardless I hope that the song is hot and does well.

But do you buy singles based on the cover art or whether the person can actually sing? Do you know that back in the day Whitney Houston & Mariah were groomed for 2+ years before they debuted? Melanie is not a full rounded performer, she is a singer who needs to learn stage presence, media training, etc. I’m sick of r&b females being ho’ed out by labels & hope that they keep it cute & classy with Melanie.

I like Melanie and all but… this cover is not it! Who’s directing this? Who’s on wardrobe, hair, make up, art direction? EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE (WHAT?) FIRED!!! She’s a beautiful girl and y’all are supposed to be creating a STAR not a flavor of the month! What I hate about reality stars is that they get this disillusion that everyone really cares and are going to support them when the album or single drops. But if you don’t come out like a starving artist (hungry and determined), the people will NOT CARE. That single better be a banger and none of that ballad crap she was doing on the show. She has Carribean roots and this would be the time to show them off.
