Beyonce Boosts ‘World Humanitarian Day’ Campaign To One Billion

Published: Sunday 19th Aug 2012 by Sam

As the official ambassador for World Humanitarian Day, Beyonce has been at the forefront of this year’s campaign. A campaign, which borrowing from her superstar status and that of fellow chart-toppers such as Lady GaGa, Chris Brown and Kelly Rowland, has made history.

Find out how after the jump…

According to a freshly released press statement, the WHD campaign had hit its target of a one billion person reach on the big day itself….

ONE BILLION MESSAGES SHARED FOR WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY
(New York, 19 August 2012): The World Humanitarian Day 2012 campaign has made social media history by sharing more than one billion messages of hope encouraging people to do something good for someone else.

The campaign, which launched 2 August, asked people around the world to pledge to help another person on World Humanitarian Day.

“There are seven billion people in the world and we reached hundreds of millions of them with our message. People really care,” said Valerie Amos, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.

At 9 am (Eastern Standard Time)on 19 August more than one billion messages were shared at the same time: “This World Humanitarian Day I’m doing something good, somewhere, for someone else. Join Me!” Upon navigating to www.whd-iwashere.org, people can now mark their good deed on a global interactive map.

“Thanks to the amazing work of Beyoncé and our partners, we now have a global commitment to humanitarian action. The message of people helping people is universal. Making your mark and saying “I Was Here” resonates powerfully with people all over the world,” said Ms. Amos.

The campaign numbers soared following the release of the ‘I Was Here’ music video by Beyoncé on 18 August, whose support for the cause, alongside other major brands and celebrities, put this campaign on the global stage.

“I feel like we all want to know that our life meant something and that we did something for someone else. That we spread positivity no matter how big or how small,” said Beyoncé in the lead up to World Humanitarian Day.

Kudos to Beyonce, and all those involved for spotlighting such a worthwhile cause. Don’t forget that you can still play your part by supporting the World Humanitarian movement by clicking here.

Randomness: We are forever in awe of Beyonce’s”brand”. It quite literally lends itself to so many arenas…from the club to the corporate! Her brand formation and maintenance is a dissertation waiting to happen. Now, that is diva.

Lies. I doubt that, that one billion people could really be THAT inspired by this lace-front wearing flop. She only did this campaign to try and hawk her flop of an album and that didn’t work out well for her either. She’s washed-up. Next.

Our Perspective to decide what is humanitarian and what is for the cameras has changed drastically !!

    Sad.

why i don’t see this B**** sweat and help the poor by herself like a True One ? or she is satisfied by singing a song she didn’t right and so self-centered ?!! and it is the wrong song for the cause in the first place !!!

NOT SINCERE. i started to see through her and i won’t be fooled by her anymore , her time is Up and her constant attempts to Gain her clean image have all failed ! ppl are still not cool with whatever she’s doing since that hospital/angry parents situation and that questionable baby bumb/pregnancy !! Ppl see her as a lying Diva , and it is Inevitable since she lied a lot about songs credits and s*** like that before. so I understand.

it all depends on her stans Now , they are all what’s left for her to depend on.

Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Rihanna have shown their support for Sunday’s (19Aug12) World Humanitarian Day by encouraging fans to do something charitable.

Beyonce teamed up with United Nations officials earlier this month (Aug12) to launch the initiative, which encourages people to give back by getting involved in charity ventures.

She allowed U.N. chiefs to use her track I Was Here to mark the global event – and now her pop star peers have rallied behind the campaign.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, Rihanna ‏writes, “Do something good for someone today. 1Day 1World 1Message 1Love”, while Bieber adds, “I am supporting the UN for World Humanitarian Day.”
Grape Rihanna is doing her part to help, also, i did not
        see her name mentioned.

    • BLUE August 20, 2012

We love her for her music, her voice and for her ability to live her life as privately as is possible in an industry, which believes in living life almost completely in the public eye.
But now, the Rhythm and Blues artist Beyonce has decided the time has come for the world to know the real woman behind the carefully constructed glamorous façade and is believed to be neck deep in producing and directing a documentary on her own life. News is that the singer has already made parts of the documentary and is busy showing this to potential distributers.

The artist, who took the music industry by surprise by taking a nine-month sabbatical last year, said of that vacation: “Simple things like play with my nephew, pick him up from school, visit museums, go to concerts, see some Broadway shows, learn to cook a meal and spend time with my husband… Yes, I needed some relaxation, but I wanted inspiration too, from regular everyday things. They did not have to be over-the-top productions. I was looking for tiny moments that would speak to my heart and make me smile,”

The bootylicious crooner then wrote about her experience in an article titled “Eat, Play, Love” (inspired by the movie Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts) in Essence magazine and it could possibly be this film — and book — that catalysed the need to document her life further.

Beyonce’s documentary on her own life will feature concert coverage and have up close interviews with her, talking about her growing up years, her music and her family. Coming from her, this will be a big step considering that she is very private about her personal life. The documentary, according to some, will touch on her life with music mogul Jay Z and baby Blue Ivy Carter, who recently beat other Hollywood kids including Suri Cruise, to the top of the celebrity baby list.

But will she talk about the controversy surrounding her performance at a private concert for Muammar Gaddafi?  She got into a lot of trouble with that one and that part of her life will, most likely, be brushed under the carpet forever. It will be intriguing to see how the diva will present her own life.

Beyonce’s “I Was Here” music video debuted on Sunday in honor of World Humanitarian Day.

The video, filmed earlier this month at the United Nations in New York City, opens with a thought: “One day, one message, one goal. To inspire people all over the world to do something good, no matter how big or small, for someone else.”

Beyonce then takes the stage in long white gown to sing, “I wanna leave my footprints on the sands of time…”

The screen behind her shows images of recent disasters and footage of humanitarian workers who have made a difference.

“I feel like we all want to know that our life meant something and that we did something for someone else,” Beyonce said in a statement prior to World Humanitarian Day. “That we spread positivity no matter how big or how small.”

Sunday marked the anniversary of the 2003 bombing in Baghdad, Iraq, that killed 22 people. According to the World Humanitarian Day website, more than 1 billion people shared their message on social media: “This World Humanitarian Day I’m doing something good, somewhere, for someone else. Join me!”

How do you create a message so powerful, riveting, and inspiring that it reaches one billion people worldwide? For starters, you can enlist the help of an influential superstar, like Beyoncé. Each year, on August 19, the United Nations commemorates the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq with World Humanitarian Day (WHD). This time around, they got help from Mrs. Knowles-Carter, whose Diane Warren-penned ballad, “I Was Here,” provided the soundtrack to the massive, social media initiative.

The megastar’s “1 day, 1 world, 1 message” campaign debuted earlier this month, encouraging people to use social media to pledge one act of kindness, great or small, for another human being on WHD2012. By August 19, over 1 billion people committed to the effort via Facebook and Twitter, topping the original goal by more than 33 million pledges worldwide. Beyoncé even commemorated her participation by shooting visuals for her 4 single during the August 10 session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (and she stunned in a sequined, white Marc Bouwer gown, no less).

Relieve the WHD2012 campaign below and experience Beyoncé’s moving UN performance below. Then, pledge an act of kindness beyond August 19, because doing good is always glam!

In an effort to encourage people around the world to make a difference, singer Beyonce Knowles has teamed up with the United Nations for her latest music video.

“I Was Here” was taped in front of a live audience at the U.N. General Assembly on Aug. 10 and was posted on her website on Saturday to coincide with World Humanitarian Day – which is observed today.

The video features Beyonce dressed in a long flowing white dress in front of a large screen that projected images of humanitarian workers.

The inspirational song features lyrics such as, “The hearts I have touched, will be the proof that I leave that I made a difference, and this world will see.”

World Humanitarian Day is a “time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. The day was designated by the General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which killed 22 UN staff,” according to the video posted on the UN website and singer’s site.

Beyonce said she was attracted to “raising awareness of this day of recognition.”

“I found out that 22 people lost their lives helping people (in Baghdad). I thought it was such an incredible thing to turn that into something positive and try to include the world into doing something great for someone else,” the singer said in a video posted on the UN website. “I feel like we all want to know that our life meant something and that we did something for someone else and that we spread positivity, no matter how big or how small.”

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos said the day is both a commemoration and a “celebration of things that people do.”

“There’s an amazing amount that people do every single day that goes unrecognized. This is about the big things and it’s also about the small things,” Amos said in the UN video.

So Rihanna’s tweet accounted for a large portion of that 1 billion seeing that Rihanna has over 24 million followers and BeYAWNce has only 5 million, that means this FRAUD THIEVING B**** BeYAWNce should thank Rihanna for the support.

I still cant believe people cannot see through this self loving, selfish, conceited c*** who only did this to push 4closure off the discount bin at Walmart, Target, HMV, Best Buy. I still wonder why people stan for this thief when there is numerous evidence of her thieving and plagiarism. It baffles me that people do not care about the real cream in the music industry who are the song writers, choreographers, etc. I am glad Ne-Yo set this b**** straight before she tried it with “irreplaceable”.

It is amazing that people are willing to see over the fraud, theft, selfishness of this woman simply because they like how she pops her couchie and struts that rag of a wig/lavefront/weave or whatever it is side to side, it really is baffling because it is just proves that people who stan for this cow do not care about the music industry because they do not care about the song writers, choreographers and other artists who make the biggest contribution to the industry.

        Beyonce and beyond

        / 20 August 2012

No matter how you spew your hate, Beyonce will always be better than Rihanna, Rihanna wishes she was on the LEVEL of Beyonce hence the reason you people spew you hate..

don’t be Jelly of Beyonce, tell you fav to stop worrying about a MAN that don’t want her anymore, and to leave the DRUGS alone and maybe just maybe she could be somewhat on the level of BEYONCE THA KING.

How does Rihanna wish she was BeYAWNce when she has by-passed BeYAWNce. BeYAWNce is now a local b****, she can only sell records in the USA, Rihanna is a UNIVERSAL MEGASTAR who can sell records World Wide and Talk That Talk has outsold 4closure worldwide btw.

Anyone who is going to hate on posts like these dealing w WHD or any other charity is absolutely ridiculous. Whatever you think Beyonce’s (or any other artists for that matter) motives are, at the end of the day it’s HELPING. Helping the world and raising awareness to people.

Think what you want, hate as much as you want, but Beyonce is using her celebrity for good. So take your hate somewhere else.

When director Peter Berg told EW earlier this year about offering Rihanna the role of a tough weapons officer in Battleship, he said she had one condition: “She said, ‘I’ll do it, but please you have to promise me you won’t treat me special, you’ll treat me like you would any other actor, you’ll make me work and you won’t go easy on me.’”
But in this exclusive sneak peek at a behind-the-scenes featurette on the Battleship Blu-ray and DVD (out Aug. 28), Rihanna sees it the other way around. As she puts it, it was Berg who “really got me out of the mentality of being a celebrity, or ‘Rihanna.’” Clearly, the two hold a mutual appreciation; be sure to listen for the moment after Rihanna finishes shooting a scene when Berg proclaims, “That’s hoooooooooot!” Check out the clip below:

Humanitarianism is not just donating a dollar to some starving kid somewhere, humanitarianism is standing up and raising awareness for people who have been harmed by somebody else. If someone is stealing from songwriters who deserve their full royalties from their hard work and intellectual property, raising awareness about the thief is humanitarianism.

If someone is stealing from the intellectual property of other artists (J-Lo, Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, Shakira, etc), spreading awareness concerning the thief and exposing the thief is humanitarianism.

If someone is stealing dance routines from poor South African dancers who are still desperately trying to find a way to move out of the townships, spreading awareness and exposing the thief is humanitarianism. I wonder why people think we are not doing something good for the music industry by spreading this awareness.

The worst part in all of this is the supporters of the thief rush to attack another innocent by-stander (Rihanna) when exposing the theft has nothing to do with her, it is simply spreading awareness and exposing the thief. It is a positive service to the music industry and to the protection of the song-writers, choreographers, other artists, etc. Intellectual property is also an important resource that should be protected.

Sunday is World Humanitarian Day–a day people around the world are asked to perform a humanitarian action–however big or small–in the spirit of people helping others–“doing something good, somewhere, for someone else.”

And with a little help from Beyoncé, organizers of the global event say they made some social media history, too, inspiring more than more than 1 billion messages on Twitter, Facebook and other platforms.

“This could arguably be the largest mobilization of good intention in web history, an amazing coming together of celebrity, brands and NGOs,” Andrew Essex–chief executive of Droga5, which helped organize the event–told Yahoo News on Sunday. “Think of it as ‘We Are The World’ for the social media generation.”

Droga said the campaign reached its billion-message goal–1,029,763,492 to be exact–with 20 minutes to spare.

The campaign’s website launched earlier this month, collecting pledges and messages from would-be do-gooders, soliciting ideas (“Make a homeless person a sandwich”) and encouraging visitors to spread the word using the #IWasHere hashtag.

And Beyoncé, who shot a new music video at the United Nations specifically for the campaign, told Anderson Cooper her goal was to encourage the spread of “positivity no matter how big or how small.” The music video–for Beyoncé’s “I Was Here”–was released on Saturday. (It didn’t hurt that Beyoncé tweeted about the initiative to her 5 million followers, changing her Twitter avatar to promote the event.)
World Humanitarian Day was designated by the U.N. General Assembly in 2009 to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, which killed 22 U.N. staffers.

She is the epitome of fakeness, a real artist goes straight where the problem is, example Angelina Jolie go to several poor countries around the world and another example is Madonna, she put her ass in danger for gays and women, such as what happened in Russia a few weeks ago, she was threatened with death, yet she goes there and faced the Russians, even the American Embassy was alerted, that’s what you do if you really want to defend and help others. Beyonce is only selling her song, standing with a beautiful dress pretending to sing like Whitney Houston and be Mother Teresa, i’m really cool with her music and everything but she is as fake as Kim Kardashian’s ass.

She is the queen of pop so it is little surprise her subjects turned out to pay tribute.
But stars of a different kind were also in attendance as she gave a spectacular live performance at the UN headquarters in New York tonight for World Humanitarian Day.

A virtual galaxy was projected onto the stage as the hitmaker gave a special rendition of Diane Warren classic I Was Here.

Another B Day: Beyonce recorded a performance of I Was Here at the UN General Assembly Hall for World Humanitarian Day in New York tonight
The performance of the song, which was on her number one album 4, was recorded at the United Nations General Assembly Hall.
The video will premiere on on World Humanitarian Day on August 19, and it is hoped it will help the campaign reach 1 billion people.
Beyonce, 30, looked fantastic in a dazzlingly glamorous white frock, which hugged her spectacular post pregnancy body in all the right places.

Star-filled performance: The lavish production values were evident as she gave a spine-tingling rendition

Hitting the Highland notes: The powerful vocalist had no troubles doing the song justice

Living in a Dream: The producer, real name Terius Nash, was lucky enough to bring an amorous companion
But there were almost as many stars in the audience as there were projected onto the stage.
Top RnB performer and producer The Dream, who is the man responsible for Justin Bieber’s hit Baby, attended the night with a glamorous companion.
Meanwhile the song’s writer, award-winning star Diane Warren, was also there to see her classic brought to life.
Bourne actress Julia Styles and It girl Shala Monroque were also there to see the exciting show.
But there was eye candy in attendance for the ladies too, as news anchor Anderson Cooper and musician Zach Matari were part of the star-studded audience.
A touch of glamour: Bourne actress Julia Styles and It girl Shala Monroque looked stunning

Warren peace: Hitmaker Diane was there to see her hit brought to life by Beyonce at the event
For the ladies: There was something to suit everyone’s tastes thanks to Anderson Cooper and Zach Matari
