Elle Varner Set For Top 5 Debut on Billboard 200

Published: Saturday 11th Aug 2012 by Rashad

R&B rookie Elle Varner is just one of many new faces being attributed to the genre’s revival on radio as of late.

With hits like the J.Cole-assisted ‘Only Wanna Give It To You’ and smash ‘Refill’, fans of the jazz-tinged vocalist looking to get their fill of her offerings have taken to record stores in groves in support of her debut album ‘Perfectly Imperfect’.

Seeing its release this week, the sales (doubly) exceeded industry insider expectations and landed the songstress her first top 5 debut.  Find out how much the set is expected to sell and where it landed after the jump:

25,000-30,000

According to Billboard, the set is expected to land at #3 on next week’s Billboard 200.  The numbers are no doubt commendable given A) the singer’s lack of major outlet support, B) a moderate presence on Billboard’s Hot 100, and C) the overall status of R&B.

With artists with many years more tenure barely surpassing the aforementioned numbers, its safe to say Varner is definitely winning with this.  Here’s hoping the album, which has won great reviews from critics, will be one of many R&B cuts demonstrating an upward-sales trend.

She is a true talent and so refreshing! It’s good to see a young lady rely on pure talent and not an image to sell records. GO ELLE!

I will be the first to say she is talented. Theres no denying that. But bahahahahahahahaha really sam 25-30,000 units. Even she wouldnt think thats inpressive. You have this problem where u try to make excuses for the ppl u love even if they arnt doing that great an that is wat u are doing right now! u are quick to throw sumone under the bus i.e rihanna but fail to acknowledge others short coming i.e nicki!! Thats that s*** i dont like

this album is everything, f*** i even bought my mom a copy.

generally i would have to say sam does show his faves favortism when it comes to certain things, but record sales no.

when rihanna barely sells 200k of an album that’s been promoted on EVERY MAJOR channel, radio station, and preceded with a #1 hit…that s*** is inexcusable. im sorry.

25k is actually laughable. but given that the number 1 album in the country is under 120k, 25-30k for a barely known R&B act really is commendable. aint like the girl booking award shows and major news shows.

i say go elle! hopefully more next time

  5. That B*tch (would you like a rihfund with that)? August 11, 2012

Y’all are some haters for real. This is really good considering most people these days do not listen to or buy RnB/soul music. She is a soul singer and they usually don’t get that much commercial success. We are living in an era where europop is dominating the charts so this is quite an accomplishment, let’s not forget that this is only her first LP and not that many people know about her.
She’s a very talented singer and she deserves all the success she can get, I bought the CD and loved it!

She is very talented. Congrats Elle!

  7. Elle Varner is #1 on ITUNES August 11, 2012

THis is really good for someone who has only performed on BET.

Her label and mgt team has not put her on any major tv shows like Kimmel, GMA, Today Show, Fallon, Ellen, Leno, Conan, Fuse etc….

this is REALLY good considering her label RCA ( Brandy & Monica’s label) have done a HORRIBLE job! There was no major VEVO /Youtube promo either.

They havent even tried to cross her over like Alicia Keys. She wasnt sent to Europe or UK yet either.

This is good for any artist signed to RCA.

I wish she was at Columbia though…. Beyonce, Adele, and Rita Ora are all at cOLUMBIA Records and they really promote their artists.

  12. theman August 12, 2012

It’s decent for her, her album will probably remain steady. It’s a good album…

  13. theman August 12, 2012

This will debut in the tope ten.

  14. SayWhaaatt!!!!! August 12, 2012

Her record company could have backed her more. The week of the release she should have been on TV, radio and online promotion. At least a week on 106 and park as a co host and performer. All things considered the CD sales are great.

  15. Musiclova101 August 12, 2012

Imma let this puppet get her shine….. But let’s hope by her next album she pulls a “nicki minaj” !

  16. Musiclova101 August 12, 2012

Well done Elle Varner, its a good album, and as has already been pointed out, this girl has hardly had any promotion to speak of, here in the UK, i have not heard any of her tunes played, but when i have introuduced peeps to her music, they all love it, so big up girl!
