As well as RiRi, innovative Best New Artist contender Frank Ocean is set to make his Video Music Award debut to deliver a soulful performance that has made him one of the most buzzed about artists of the year.
Set to mark his biggest performance since the release of his debut album ‘Channel Orange’ back in July, news of Ocean’s showing at the ceremony arrives after the LP hit sales of 262,000 units in the US.
It also comes after he cancelled all European dates of the album’s supporting tour, but before he takes to New York’s All Tomorrow’s Parties on September 21st to perform for fans.

The last time I checked, during his interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, he stated that his music is the epitome of “Contemporary R&B”. He also said that even though he experiments with a number of styles, his music will always be rooted in R&B.
If you heard different then… I don’t know. I’m just going by what he said and I, personally, classify him as “R&B”.

They need to get Usher to perform something. He NEEDS this show to promote this album still. But what I like is that, unlike chris, he still has life left in his album, where Chris released everything prior to the album release.
As far as Frank Ocean, I was liking him last yr with novican n swim good n thinking about etc stuff from his mixtape, didn’t get channel orange. Anyways, not TGE best singer, but damn good song writer but with Akeys & Frank O, I don’t see a big entertaining rnb/urban performer with a big performance.

Fortune is selling off of a few tweets whereas your boy Usher Raymond has had a major PROMOTIONAL campaign (cover of several major magazines, TV/Cable/Award show performances, International & nations festvals the whole nine yards) for his CD. The vmas always announce people no one cares about first then they announce one big artists to keep people interested then more in the middle artist as far as popularity then the one big bang artists. But this year it’s like…no that’s not what they did. Last years was great Beyonce. Lady Gaga,Chris, kanye n jay, Adele etc. this show seems blah. Nothing entertains or hype ( beyonce lady gaga Chris kanye n jay) Not too many real singers ( Adele beyonce etc) there were more but I forgot. There’s only Alicia n Frank. At least so far n Kevin’s hosting but nothing else is good. No entertainers. Make me mad. Other than those 2 oh yeah pink but idk bout her. No one else is gonna entertain.

So phony. At least Alicia has had MTV airplay and a history of VMA performances. Has MTV ever even played a Frank Ocean video? Yet here he is, all set to perform, and with all these nominations at an award show that eradicated R&B categories years ago. GTFOH. Is this some kind of a joke?
It even would have made more sense to invite Trey, Usher or Chris to perform, and/or to give them Franks noms instead. All of them debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and are getting better airplay. Hell, Miguel could have been invited to perform…”Adorn” is getting more buzz at the moment than any Frank Ocean song is.
All this “support” for Frank is as transparent as Windex. It’s as if everyone was aware of how negatively this all COULD have gone and decided to “protect” him from the worse happening, just to prove some kind of sociopolitical point and feel good about themselves in the process. His “talent” is a neither here nor there and means next to nothing. His whole career is built on liberal douche sand, and as soon as the novelty wears off, he’ll be back to where he was before he decided to tell the world about his fondness for other mens penises.

GO Frank! He is doing big things this year. He has been penning beautiful songs for a while now and I’m happy he’s getting his shine. I don’t know why people are soo pressed about the man getting recognition. I don’t think his coming out was a publicity stunt. I remember shortly before his album dropped there were headlines about him using “he” in his music and Frank simply responded by putting out a letter. I don’t think his team forced the media to put that out there. It’s not like he came out of the blue with it. Did it help him gain popularity? YES! Did it play in his favor? YES because it put his name out. Whether you call his “coming out’ a publicity stunt or whatever, I’m sure your fave has used a publicity stunt /gimmick as well or other things for promotion so don’t be a hypocrite.
As far as his album sales, pretty decent for a newcomer with no hits. But that’s just my opinion though.
Anyways, I’ve never really been one to tune in for the MTV awards but I may check in to see what all the hoopla is and for certain performances.

This has to be the “most” boring MTV awards ever… I’m sure it will show in the ratings… MTV has fallen ever since they stop showing music video except for AMTV. It’s so sad that Mr. Ocean is being used as some type of “poster boy”. Unfortunately, this will bite him at the end. Instead of his music being recognize for its uniqueness he will continue to be “labeled”. Channel Orange flopped and is no where in the top #10 of Billboard 200 or Billboard 100.
