BMI Brilliance: Joe Tributes Mariah Carey With ‘We Belong Together’

Published: Saturday 8th Sep 2012 by Sam

One of the most successful songs of all-time, Mariah Carey‘s 2005 hit ‘We Belong Together’ is undoubtedly a classic. Hence, it was only fitting that one R&B’s most revered voices – in the form of  Joe – was picked to perform the song at last night’s BMI Urban Awards.

Watch as Carey’s ‘Thank God I Found You’ comrade soars like only he can below…

Near flawless.

A spectacularly difficult song to sing, Joe nailed it with finesse. The belting and runs after the bridge? Absolutely epic.

That said, watching this has us a little ticked off that so few R&B males today are in the business of “sanging”. The incredible Luke James aside, who else is flexing pipes like this in today’s day and age? Here’s hoping last night served as an inspiration to the artists in attendance to “do better, be better”.

      🙁

      • MC September 8, 2012

First of all, Celine pulled in Millions in Vegas so lets get that out of the way. Secondly, Mariah will never retire. Just deal with it, okay? Oh and how is Gaga doing btw?

        You´re a joke!
First of all Mariah and Celine are very different. Second you, your family and all your favs wish they could have such a “retirement” cos Celine has been in the top 10 of biggest money makers for like the past 10 years, each and every year of that decade, since she started in Vegas… cos She Decided it, nobody retired her. She also did awesome with her world wide tour in 2008-2009
If u are a Gaga fan I´m actually sorry for her. I appreciate the girl

I like joe but this was just ok…I don’t get the hype. He was in the same octave the whole time except the last “who” part. Cool I guess though.

  16. theman September 8, 2012

    Joe is very talented…

  17. near perfection my ass September 8, 2012

I don’t see it. I swear some of you(majority) must not support your local artist such as plays, underground stars, churches. Etc.
Because what you guys consider great vocals never are. This is an example of a decent cover nothing more….joe did ok….not great or amazing

  18. Nichole September 8, 2012

Joe and Fanny are the true definition of REAL SINGERS.

No acts, distractions, phony charade, etc. It is just them, and their voices each time and that is how it should be.

Mariah could stand to take a few notes.

    • MC September 8, 2012

lol what you just described is everything that Britney Spears is NOT. Mariah got famous for her talent and remained famous/successful because of her talent not for gimmicks. Its funny you took the time to write this when you clearly stan for Britney “no talent” Spears lol. Mariah relies on her voice for tours/performances not on clothes and gimmicky stuff. Good day 🙂
