Ginuwine Joins Missy Elliott & Timbaland, Says Drake’s Plans For Aaliyah Album Are “Disrespectful”

Published: Tuesday 25th Sep 2012 by Rashad

Despite recent years seeing him traipsing the comeback trail, music lovers know R&B veteran Ginuwine once rode to the top of pop charts with hits like ‘Pony’, ‘In Those Jeans’, and ‘So Anxious’.

While dishing on his latest happenings with our friends over at Livin’ The Hustle, the singer was quizzed on this thoughts of news that ‘Headlines’ hitmaker Drake was to produce/create an album of unreleased Aaliyah music.  Already garnering criticism from her fans as well as longtime collaborators Missy Elliott and Timbaland, fans have been so anxious to hear the R&B crooner weigh in on the hot topic.

While not as fiery as her ‘Back In One Piece’ co-star DMX‘s comments, he definitely did not hold back:

Via LTH (start at 2:35):

Ginuwine joins a list of the ‘Rock the Boat’ beauty’s nearest and dearest in disapproval of the pending project.  Despite fans long wanting to hear “new” (or previously unheard) tracks from Baby Girl, if it has to come at the expense of her family and friend’s dislike, we just have to question if its worth it.

Your thoughts?

“Drake needs to p*** off with his Aaliyah obsession.and tryna make an album for her without the people that actually knew her.. Honestly she probably wouldn’t have liked him especially if you look at the people she used to be around DMX , timbaland, ginuwine, Damon dash & even jay-z… no offense to drake but jus coz he got her face tatted on his back or whatever don’t mean a damn thing… :))

I’m not thrilled that Drake is handling this either, but I’m tired of hearing people complain about it. Levy the blame at the people who own the rights to Aaliyah’s music (her uncle) and are willing to smirch her memory and music by letting some flavor of the month pop-rapper reproduce it in a exploitive attempt to make some change off both their names.

All this talk about Aaliyah’s family not being happy about it makes no sense to me, since I’m presuming that it’s Aaliyah’s family who gave the green light.

    • WHOCARES September 26, 2012

I agree with you about the label (uncle and cousin) being the ones to truly blame for it. However, her family (mother, brother, father) have no say so if she signed over all rights to her music to them, in the event of her death. They may not necessarily need their permission to put out music of hers.

Drake should reconsider. I could see this hurting his career.

    im sorry WHO?

  11. zzzzzzg September 26, 2012

I agree with him! Aaliyahs music was graceful and classy.Drake used to much profanity.Drake has some serious issues tattooing her face. I love Aaliyah but would never tattoo her face or name on me. Fool never even met Aaliyah a day in his life. He ruined Aaliyahs sound with is trashy music. Drake is annoying he needs to sit down.

Call me pressed or whatever but The ONLY thing “MRS. AUBREISHA DRAKENETTE GRAHAM” needs to worry about is GETTING HIS BOOTY STUFFED and his own damn music!!!

The nerve of this mother-f****** Queen >>>>>>>

First off, he thinks that he’s the most “SUCCESSFUL” artist to have ever rapped and sung simultaneously and now he’s considering doing a posthumous album of a “LEGEND” who died when he was still in 9th grade and MASTERBATING over Destiny’s Child ‘Say My Name’???????

GOOOOOOORRRRRRRL >>>>>>>> GO AND GOZZLE SOME C**** AND THEN HAVE NICE, COMFORTABLE ARENA OF SEATS. DELUSIONAL LITTLE B****.

    • Hop-Scotch September 26, 2012

      LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

      YASSSSSSSSSS.

      lmfao.

  15. whocares September 26, 2012

all these irrelevants can have several. OMG Aaliyah’s death was a tragedy but who says Drake can’t celebrate her the way he wants. F*** Whitney got a new album coming out. MJ has had f****** several since his death. Biggy, Tupac. Hypocricy is all that is. Stop the madness.

    • AmbeRussell September 26, 2012

BUT those albums that u speak of are being/been created by ppl who worked with said artist. drake never was in the studio with her, never met her, or been in the same room as her.

There is nothing disrespectful about Drake prducing an Aaliyah CD. Timbalan has a heavy influence on only one of three of Aaliyah’s CD before her death. He actually only produce 5 out of 17 songs on her One in A Million CD. And 2 tracks on her Aaliyah CD. That does not make him her stable or long term producers. And had she still be around she probably would have branched out. Get a grip….Drake like Aaliyah and her music and wants to produce a CD to tribute her.

  17. KEVO September 26, 2012

Ok… I’m a huge Aaliyah fan and I wouldn’t want to disrespect any of her fellow fans, friends or family. However, I do believe we should hear some new material from her. Why not? Why not continue her legacy as a great singer? I think any royalties should go to her family and maybe a percentage (a very small percentage) to Drake or any producer who is willing to make good music with her voice. I don’t see Timbaland or Missy trying to come out with another Aaliyah album at least for her fans, and I mean no disrespect when I say that. I just feel like as her fans, we miss her too and the only way we get to help her legacy live on, is by supporting any new material of her’s that is released. Thoughts??????
