Ne-Yo Talks “Trey Songz Beef”, New Album, And “Staying R&B”

Quarrels of the crooners!

As fans know, ‘Sexy Love’ singer Ne-Yo wasn’t getting much love from his former ‘The Way You Move’ co-star Trey Songz when he remarked about the ‘Panty Droppa’s’ singing – claiming Songz suffered from an ’emotional disconnect’ in his performances.

When asked about the ‘beef’, Trigga dished very little but did call Ne-Yo’s constructive criticism ‘a sucker move’.

Taking to radio, the outspoken ‘Miss Independent’ divo shared his thoughts on the drawn out drama with Trey, dibs on his new album ‘R.E.D.’ (and it’s recent pushback), and even thoughts on critics who claim he’s abandoned R&B.  As ever, it is an interesting watch:

Thanks BLK!

Ne-Yo does have to put his foot in his mouth often, but atleast he admitted that he was wrong. I’m don’t think he lied about Trey, but it was a little out of place. Ne-Yo should probably keep his opinions on his friends(Chris, Trey) to himself. Overall, Ne-Yo’s’s pretty much a decent guy!

I love how people act like Ne-Yo sold out and went pop, even though he’s been doing urban pop since his second album!! ‘Closer’ was urban pop. ‘Because Of You’ was urban pop. ‘Miss Independent’ was urban pop too. It’s not his fault if noone cares about his urban songs anymore. ‘Lazy Love’ is pure r ‘n’ b and it’s not charting anywhere, so obviously he’s going to try out pop songs as well if that’s the only way for him to be commercially viable.

closer and because of you were r&b songs with pop influences.
“let me love you” “give me everything” etc are straight up pop/dance songs with no r&b at all.
      stop being delusional.

I love how he continues to try and defend himself against the accusations that he’s a sell out. Pure guilty conscience. Usher turning pop was and is still more jarring and awkward than Ne-Yo’s, yet to my knowledge Usher hasn’t addressed any criticism he’s gotten for it.

When Ne-Yo did “Closer,” it felt like a genuine effort to do something different from his usual style w/o it seeming like it was going to change the overall direction of his music…but that “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)” crap is pure bandwagon desperation — which leaves you with the sick feeling that there are probably more Katy Perry/Gaga fan pandering moments waiting on his album. Pathetic.

Can’t have it both ways Shaffer. You’re either R&B or pop. Usher tried to be manipulative by pandering to both with his latest album, and it’s shaping up to be the poorest seller of his career. Your core audience doesn’t want to hear pop music, not even if you stuff a bunch of filler R&B tracks (that you won’t give equal promotion to) around them.

There are certain artists that cater o r&b/pop. Usher is one of them, Neyo can do it as well, and it doesn’t come acrossed as forced. Catering to more than one audience doesn’t make u a sellout. Alot of r&b fans complainabout r&b music, but u don’t support it. Just look at all of the r&b artists album sales… Y’all are not supporting it, so stop complaining. Usher delivered a great song in “Climax”. That was/is an r&b record. Stop with the excuses. Neyo didn’t say anything all that negative about Trey anyay…

Save the excuses. Neyo is a damn sellout and if he loses his audience, it’ll be his own fault.

Whatever. All I know is that I hate his pop records. Just like I hate Usher and Chris’s pop records. I hate pop music in general. I can get with SOME ol’ school pop from like the 80s and 90s, but this latest generation of pop and dance/pop is total trash…including Neyo’s. Keep it R&B or just keep it period. Not interested in “fist pumping” music.
