After weeks of teasing and titillation, Rihanna has finally debuted her brand new single ‘Diamonds’.
Penned by Sia and produced Benny Blanco, the track serves as the lead single from the model’s 7th studio album in as many years.
Love her or loathe her, you know you want to listen, so what are you waiting for. ‘Diamonds’ awaits after the jump…
Being the fair and unbias site we are, we must say that ‘Diamonds’ is… pleasantly pleasing!
Yes, the lyrics sound like they were written by a two year old at recess, but vocally -it’s clear- the Bajan beauty is finally exploring different textures and tones of her voice. Clearly, she took our advice and locked herself in a room with a vocal coach.
What’s more, on the production tip, the song delivered and then some, serving up a moody mid-tempo that carries the track where its lyrics fail it.
Easily the least commercial of Fenty’s lead singles, it’ll be uber interesting to see how this fares. On the one hand, it could be the cut that sees her pull away from being a singles artist and actually shifts albums. Or, it could see the fickle audience she’s cultivated for herself veer elsewhere in search of a new nursery rhyme. Time will tell.
In the meanwhile, prayer meeting for those live performances begins now! As for the studio version, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t digging it. Kudos to all involved.
