Can someone please tell me why Chris Brown and Rihanna are nominated under RnB/Soul categories. There is nothing remotely RnB about these two. Stop placing them under these categories just because they’re black. Its not fair to those that actually make that type of music. On another note, these nominations are all gimmicks with very few exceptions (Maroon 5, Mary J, Bey, Gotye, etc).

I am a Chris Brown fan. I have his last 3 CD’s but id be a damn fool to call him RnB. He hasn’t had an RnB sounding album since Grafitti. He has gone pop with a few urban sounding pop songs here and there. He no longer creates RnB music for his fans. He creates music for the mainstream masses now. Just because Im a fan doesn’t mean I have to remain oblivious and neither should you.
In regards to Maroon 5, compared to the other nominess these guys are nowhere near gimmicks. How often do you hear about Adam pulling publicity stunts or doing some ratchet s***? Every year, since 2009, they nominate the same artists – NO – GIMMICKS, and bring nothing even REMOTELY new to the show. These same GIMMICKS, since 2008, are most probably going to perform there same ‘GIMMICKED’ performances and those same GIMMICKS are going to be put on a pedestal (see: stan wars, youtube arguments over who is the BEST and has/had the BIGGEST “GENERIC” HIT etc…) to, somehow and somewhat, represent the highest degree of what is, SADLY, music today and mainstream music overall.
IT’S SICKENING.
I truly do miss when ROCK MUSIC, TRUE R&B/SOUL MUSIC AND DANCE MUSIC – WITH SUBSTANCE – WAS ATOP THE CHARTS. Everything was just so GENUINE, EXCITING and FRESH about the music industry back in the day.
Thank God for the Alternative/Indie acts (who I hope someday get the recognition they deserve) that still belive in REAL music and continue to create it and innovate.

As much as I like these ppl that’s nominated I really want someone new to come up on the scene I feel like there’s no new batch of anything like in the 90s you had Mariah Celine and 00s you had Justin Timberlake pink Britney etc in the 2010s it just seemed like no one new is giving me life that’s why I have a feeling that the music industry is really coming to an end and like someone said its just the same ppl!! I was watching on youtube yesterday Whitney Houston winning 5 AMAs in 1987 and 8 in 1994 (yes incredible success I know) and damn, just seeing the real competition she had, her class, her undeniable talent. These days are so sad for the industry. Grammys keep being a little bit better at least
