Ironically, taking her so so vocals into account, Rihanna‘s global success is and always has been routed from her music.
Sure, though her ‘wild and stylishly reckless’ gimmick may keep her more loyal fans tuned in, it’s her ever infectious brand of premium Pop that leaves the world coming back for more time and again.
Unfortunately for her, the same can’t be said for her endeavors outside of the singles chart, forcing many to question how lucrative her brand actually is, when compared to those held by her closest rival, Beyonce.
Not sure what we mean?
Her reality show ‘Styled To Rock’ has been axed, following record breaking ratings lows and a production billed ‘nightmarish’.
The Daily Mail’s exclusive story below…
“It was meant to be her big TV break, but Rihanna’s television debut has been axed following poor ratings – amid claims that the production was a ‘nightmare’.
The singer, 24, was the star and executive producer on Sky Living Show Styled To Rock, where wannabe designers battled it out to make a festival outfit for their idol.
However, she only made three appearances on the programme – including the final, where she picked up the winning outfit.
But despite the fact that Rihanna called on friends including Cheryl Cole, Kanye West and Katy Perry to guest star, Styled to Rock has been scrapped after ratings fell to below 79,000.
However, the show – presented by fashion designer Henry Holland and Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud – has been sold to the US Style Network without Rihanna on board.
A TV source told MailOnline: ‘Scheduling all these popstars with our filming schedule was a nightmare”.
‘Rihanna’s diary was manic, and to be honest, after it struggled for viewers it was always going to be difficult to get her to agree to do another series.
During filming, Rihanna sparked concern for her health when she scrapped a 10-week trip to the UK for work – forcing a planned appearance on the programme to be rescheduled.
But she angrily dismissed claims that her health was affected by constant partying and said she was visiting her family.
However, just weeks later she tweeted pictures of herself hooked up to an IV.
Last November she cancelled a concert in Sweden when she was taken to hospital and put on a drip. Doctors put her weakness down to a bad case of flu.
The Umbrella star’s then enraged Saturday Night Live bosses by missing a rehearsal due to illness and tiredness.
Meanwhile, the star has caused outrage by launching her Diamonds Executive Platinum Box – to be sold at $250 – which will be out on December 11 in time for Christmas.
Rihanna superfans will score a T-shirt, seven lithographs, a two gigabyte flash drive, a mosaic poster, a notebook, seven laptop stickers, and a Viewmaster that tracks Rihanna’s various style transformations – as well as the CD.
However, fans tweeted their fury, saying she had a ‘nerve’, as another said ‘I think I’ll pass.’
A Sky Living spokeswoman said: ‘It is far too early to make a decision if the show would return for a second series.
‘After every big launch, we undertake extensive research with our customers, and will make a decision when we evaluate the results.’”.
To Joe Public, the idea that a show backed by and starring Rihanna could fail so miserably may be a little difficult to swallow, considering her status as a ‘global megastar’.
However, as ‘Battleship’s Box Office bombing and her lack of a US #1 album proves, Riri’s brand is built on very uncertain ground- likely to crumble when it isn’t upheld by catchy dance cuts, a new haircut….and Chris Brown induced sob stories.
What stings the most about this mess, is that she has been ultimately been fired from it, considering the ‘Style Network’ plans to launch it sans her support, thus making any future plans to branch out into television successfully a little unlikely.
Moral of the story?
Substance will always beat smoke’n'mirrors.

“Rihanna is cliche of everything that has ever been disingenuous about the music business. A soulless Barbie Doll, with plastic doll parts, who was plucked off the streets of no where and put on–simply because the outfit was her size. In other words: commerce…created and puppet mastered by money grubbing music executives as a tool to co-opt what is currently popular for fast cash, and pandered to the dingiest of music listeners who are not discerning enough to care.
You have to give the label, the management, the A&R people, the songwriters, the producers, the directors and the thousand other magicians involved their credit for being savvy enough to outfit this garden-variety debutante with material and promotion to keep her afloat…but let’s be real, there is nothing ‘special’ or ‘unique’ about Rihanna, herself. She has little talent, no personality or strong image, nor does she command the stage. Anyone could have been cast in the role Rihanna plays; she just lucked out. For all intents and purposes, Rihanna is akin to a can of Hormel Chili; basically a canned product with a label (and a ‘sell by’ date) on it.
The bottom line is that Rihanna was not built to last and is very “replaceable.” This is why she does not take breaks, and repetitiously puts out a generic by-the-numbers pop album every year. Being that she has little ‘star power,’ in order to sustain her momentum she has to continually strike while the iron is hot, while employing a multitude of petty ‘stunts’ to get attention (tacky wigs, brothel attire, referencing her tumultuous relationship Chris Brown years later.) The moment she sits down to catch her breath, ten more record label assembled chippies will be thrown into the ring and the last two standing will be the next “Rihanna.”
In 2012, no more do we need windup doll acts like Rihanna getting on camera and posing like an androidian cast-off from America’s Next Top Model, while vapidly bleating over an empty dance track, hanging around longer than the fifteen minutes that is typically allotted for manufactured pop stars such as her. It’s just getting sad now, and the quality is dipping. Gone are the pseudo-interesting songs like “Umbrella,” now she is peddling random, monotonous dead air like “We Found Love.” The girl has run her course; at this point she is on autopilot and is fast becoming the equivalent of a skipping record.”

If you begin to name black female pop stars from the 1980s until now, you’ll be hard pressed to find more than a handful. That handful includes names such as Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston. And to be honest, the list doesn’t go much further than that. Of course there have been many black female artists in the past thirty years, but there are very few who have taken over top 40.
Why is this? There’s no science to it. I think it has more to do with marketing and image. By hooking up with record industry legend Clive Davis, he managed to help her maintain a viable MTV presence as well as appearances on national shows that garnered attention from the mainstream media. And yet she has officially sold more records than Beyonce worldwide. She has sold 37 million records worldwide, leaving Bey in the dust.
She has sold more singles than Bey worldwide and she is going on tour next year, meaning she wont have time for the show.
Battleship sold more tickets than Beyonce worldwide and it made its budget and earned NBC a small profit. Beyonce can only get roles as a singer in small budget movies like Fighting Temptations, Beyonce will never be cast in a big budget movie like Battleship. Battleship even sold more tickets than the ever glorified Dreamgirls. Rihanna is way more successful than FRAUDYONCE.

All singles from 4 closure are flops, like many singles from B\ Day as well. Beyonce’s first movie was a flop. Destinys Child first album was a flop. Single Ladies was a flop internationally as well, it did well just in the USA. Her albums are flops compared to Rihanna’s outside of the USA.. Do you really want me believe that Loud sold 19 million??? LOL. Loud isn’t Adele’s 21. In the real world, Loud sold 6 million. In other words, she sold 24 million albums to date. Right now, Talk That Talk and LOUD are still charting in all the charts WORLDWIDE (with the exception of the US where only TALK THAT TALK) is charting.
We have only been told LOUD has sold 6 million but this statistic is outdated, we were also told GGGB sold 9 million in 2010, another outdated statistic. Now if an old video like Unfaithful can get monster views on VEVO, what would stop Rihanna from selling an average 6 million albums a year WORLDWIDE for 4 years? Why do yall like Comparing Rihanna and Beyonce..
1. Rihanna even with 6 albums she has never had a US #1 album beyonce only has 4 albums and all of them have been US #1 albums.
2. Rihanna has grammy’s yes! But how many of them are actually Rihanna’s.. And not “……. Ft Rihanna” .. Miss B has 16 Grammy’s and they all hers
3. Rihanna has a lot of hits yes, but she only has one classic song “Umbrella”. Beyonce has tons of classics “single ladies”, “Irreplaceable”, “Crazy In love” and “Halo”
4. Till this day no award show has ever called Rihanna to sing a tribute to any artist. If u watch any awards Beyonce has had her share of tributes Luther Vandross, Tina Turner etc
5. Rihanna works harder than a black slave evrytime she has to promote her concert tickets.. Beyoncé concert tickets do not even last more than 15minutes 4 hers to be sold out.
Beyonce is a living legend.. And Rihanna is a replaceable trick…
