Report: Britney Spears Joins ‘Whitney Houston Tribute’ Special Lineup

Published: Wednesday 10th Oct 2012 by Rashad

The pop fates are weaving quite the tickling web…and just in time for Halloween.

For, adding to her duties as X Factor judge, news has surfaced ‘Baby One More Time’ beauty Britney Spears has added one more duty to her ‘to-do’ list – joining the line-up for the CBS-aired tribute to the late, great Whitney Houston.

Already boasting a roster of performers including Cece Winans, Yolanda Adams, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, and Usher, Spears’ addition to the lineup…

…came as quite the shock until it was later clarified the Grammy-winning vocal-less would not be pressing play on her pre-recorded ‘How Will I Know’ backing track performing, but instead acting as a presenter for segments.

Via Billboard:

“She along with Oscar-winner Halle Berry, actress Taraji P. Henson and rapper LL Cool J will introduce segments and iconic footage of Houston from from the Nokia Theatre stage. The TV tribute will celebrate Houston’s life and career with exclusive interviews, never-before-seen footage, including highlights of nearly all of Houston’s Grammy telecast performances.”

******

And the world can rest at ease again…well unless Rihanna, Ke$ha, or Cassie are added.  Due for taping October 11th, the show will air live via CBS on November 13th.

    The shade is tiring.

The same people that TGJ shades are the same ones who are actually relevant and successful.

I understand this site appreciates talent, but they need to realize that the ‘vocals’ and ‘talent’ that was needed back in the day, is not needed now!!!!

Anyways, until then…I’ll continue to laugh at their laundry pressed asses.

    • king z October 10, 2012

umm…as singers vocals and talent SHOULD BE needed. if in ANY OTHER profession (doctors, lawyers, etc) they could offer subpar products like entertainers do, the world would be doomed.

i agree the shade may be old, but lets be real. just because one is successful does not mean they are due respect. vanilla ice, milli vanilli, miley cyrus, were at one time successful.

      • Lax October 10, 2012

The part about the shade may be old, but successful does not mean they or due Respect, Are you kidding me look, if anybody would say that beyonce was less then Stella in every lasdt one of her performance then yo ass need to swat team, fbi, navy, army, marines and air force to dig themselves out of the s*** that would be thrown on yo ass. And on the same token JJFAN is right on all fronts…

I love Me some Britney, shes down to earth and shes this huge mega artist and shes not Worried ONE BIT ABOUT NEGATIVE Bull Britney has sold more units of music before she was 20 years old then many has sold their whole Phucking careers.

Only a Janet fan could spew such nonsense!
Vocals are not needed?! My Lord *Whitney voice*. Singers should know how to SING.
Singers NEED vocals like a plumber needs his tools and Janet needs an album that doesn’t go triple plywood.

      The cheek!

To tell the truth who can sing and who can’t sing will always be Subjective, i am happy that when Mariah, whitney, aretha, gladys, celine, cher, barbara, dolly, and all of the countless others didn’t beat the hound dog hell out of who was the best and who dah, dah, dah it sort of seems elementary to me for some reason. Britney did not ask them they respected her enought to ask her and for some reason they don’t give a phuck if Britney can sing like whitney or not shes going to perform.

    • Lolax October 10, 2012

      Of course she can

  11. Nichole October 10, 2012

Lol. She’s not performing a Whitney song, you morons. If anything she’ll probably give a speech like Mariah did on the BET Awards.

When are you imbeciles gonna get it? Just because Britney isn’t some great vocalist, doesn’t mean she can’t be apart oc this tribute. Whitney did not only influence great singers, but also one’s like Britney, Lady GaGa, Rihanna, Ashanti and others. There is nothing wrong with that.

Don’t shade Britney because she’s not a powerhouse vocalist. Whitney was one of her biggest inspirations, and she has every right to be there.

    Go, Brit!

    • irene46 October 11, 2012

    • Nichole October 10, 2012

      I think it’s great.

The haters are just pissed because their lessors faves are not on the list. Not yet any way.

It’s great that they invited the biggest pop star of her generation to take part in a Whitney tribute.

Now all they need is Mariah, Joe, Fantasia, Ledisi and a few other great vocalist in there.

    • Lax October 10, 2012

So much hate for this girl, i’ll be honest and say that they should be glad that such an Iconic figure will take part of this tribute, performing or not, her presence there will be enough to make the evening shine, Britney Spears will be remembered forever more than whitney will ever be, it’s amazing how she became part of American culture in a short time, she’s probably the most popular female singer of all times alongside Madonna, she’s a sweet girl, trust me, if she decided to be there is because she loves Whitney, she’s doing this for respect, you don’t need to shade her, we all know she’s not a great singer but she’s got a big heart that most good singers don’t have.

    • JOHNVIDAL October 10, 2012

Your post could have been cute but you f***** it saying Britney will always be more remembered than Whitney???? What?
Hell no, she´s only 30 and her shine… Do I need to say more? Wasn´t she going to bring the biggest ratings for X Factor and some of you were saying a few months ago she is way more of a superstar (despite talentless) than Xtina and Mariah… so she would bring in more viewers??? Well where is the result? Cos The Voice wins X Factor by far and AI is just going to slay X Factor ratings
From now on she will only be able to present like in this occasion and little more
No shade, of course she is a superstar, but she is not going to be more remembered than the Golden era megastars (and actually talented) like Michael, Whitney or Madonna. NO

      • S****** Blonde October 10, 2012

You know this is true, before Whitney dies, her fame was in the closet, Britney will be like Marilyn Monroe, always an Icon, always remembered, like it or not, is the way it is.

      • JohnVidal October 10, 2012

Sorry I don´t accept it. It´s not like that. Marilyn Monroe? yeah right. Britney made an impact among the t*** audience 10 years ago. It´s impossible she will be more remembered in a few decades than people like Whitney who made an impact in the whole population of the globe, all kinds of ages
Of course before death Whitney was being less talked than Britney. britney is only 30 and her peak was not that long ago compared to Whitney, plus she was still releasing albums, Wjhitney almost didn´t for a decade. Wait till Britney dissapears from music and tv. Let´s see how much she will be remembered and praised teh nest decades 🙂

      • S****** Blonde October 10, 2012

You don’t get it but its like that, people will be talking about her for decades, no for her music but for her personal life, all her problems, that makes her a star ala Monroe, i know is sad but America and the world loves tragedy, she is more famous than Whitney ever was, you know it, everyone knows this, talented or not, it’s certanly not her work what makes her a superstar.

      • Lax October 10, 2012

@S****** BLONDE i know that’s right, they need to know that this is Britney she’s a Iconic figure and theres nothing that will change that.

      • S****** Blonde October 10, 2012

        Lax.
People tend underestimated what others have achieved just because they don’t like them.

      • JOHNVIDAL October 10, 2012

        @lax
Don´t be silly (we know you are but anyway
I know damn well what a superstar Britney became. And I know despite being less talented she is bigger star (and icon, I don´t see her as that but ok) than Xtina, Rihanna or even Beyonce. I know, I get it
But we are talking about Whitney houston. Of all people, really britney doesn´t surpass her at anything, not even at worldwide fame. Just no. There Michael, Whitney, madonna… and I don´t know who else

    • MC October 10, 2012

What you just said is b******* in its purest form and you know it! No matter what she did in her personal life or musical career she won’t be more remembered than Whitney. If people like Whitney, MJ, Prince, etc could be less talked about/remembered in the future, then no one will remember Britney. People like Charlie Sheen, L. Lohan, etc have a very public and scandalous life yet that does mean they’ll forever be remembered. Before the X-Factor people weren’t talking about her. So what makes you think she’ll be remembered?! Don’t even try to justify your opinion because its as unthinkable as Beyonce becoming the next Michael Jackson. Just stop! Seriously.

      • S****** Blonde October 10, 2012

You guys are taking the wrong way, let’s be honest, Britney will always been famous, always, i’m not saying she ‘s talented or better than Whitney, if you know me, you know of what i’m talking about, Marilyn Monroe is probably the most famous person ever, even today her image is everywhere and can we compare her to Whitney when it comes to talent, No, So this is not about talent, and about Charlie and the other girl, they are nothing. Let’s not act as if Britney impact in the world is not bigger than Whitney, because it is an that’s applies to Mariah too MJ was/is the biggest star right there with the Beatles and Elvis so of course his bigger than everybody else.

      • JOHNVIDAL October 10, 2012

        @s******
Man what the hell are u talking about?
Yes we know you know Whitney is more talented than Britney. And yes we know those type of things about non talented people being more famous and remembered than other people who were better than them happens. yes we know that
But we are talking about WHITNEY HOUSTON!!!
Britney´s impact around the globe bigger than Whitney??? Hell NO. “I will always love you” will be forever more remembered than any s*** Britney has released and about your point: more rembered than britney herself and her face. Whitney ahs the biggest era for a female singer in history. People don´t forget that. Wghitney´s tributes around the globe have been crazy, i can´t imagine people doing that for Britney when she dies in 30 or whatever years.
In case you didn´t notice I agreed with you on my comment about Marilyn Monroe. She is like one of the biggest or the biggest icon ever. My point is Britney is no where near that and never will. You are understimating Whitney´s global superstardom and exagerating Britney´s. I tell you the whole world´s population know who Whitney is and know “I will always love you” but not every single person know Britney Spears at all (not to mention a song from her)
Hell haven´t you checked interviews, success, sales, fame, praising Whitney had in the 80´s? I think you need to revisit. people adored her like they never adored Britney. like I told you. maybe teens adored Britney, but nobody else. Whitney impacted everybody
Whitney can only be second to a person like Michael

      • S****** Blonde October 10, 2012

I don’t think Whitney can be second to Mj, IF ANYTHING SHE COMES AFTER Madonna, once again and last time i would say this, as a career Whitney can’t be compared to Britney, we all know that, however when it comes to know who is Britney, even if you’re not a fan you know who is she, like you say with Whitney, you know this is true, Britney can retire now and peopel still will want more from her.

      • MC October 10, 2012

        Oh.My.God. I.Can’t.With.You.Today.

@s****** I think you are EXTREMELY biased in this topic. We get that you love Britney but in all honesty you need to lay off of the s*** your smoking. Obviously Whitney is more talented, influential, and successful than Lip-sync Spears. Whitney Houston has the most successful female debut of all time (yes, more successful than Madonna’s debut). Marylin Monroe is a beautiful example of a person being remebered without the talent, but that person is not Britney. I will now go on to tell you something important: I grew up in Africa (Ethiopia) and when I was a kid @ the age of 6-7 (who knew no English whatsoever) I always heard songs from Ethiopian musical legends and those from outside countries. Of these outside forces, only few like James Brown, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Elvis (not a lot though) were able to come across. Imagine people who spoke an entirely different language singing your songs. I remember hearing “I will always love you” and trying to sing along as a kid without knowing English. You have greatly underestimated Whitney’s power. In my country people like Beyonce, Britney, *insert any new artist* come across as big as they did.

      • S****** Blonde October 10, 2012

I don’t really don’t know what to say anymore, i think i’m speaking another language or something, i’m gonna ask you a question: Who’s more famous/remembered by people, Marilyn Monroe or Whitney Houston?, answer that simple question.

      • MC October 10, 2012

Marilyn Monroe is more famous in that aspect than Whitney but we aren’t talking about Marilyn Monroe we are talking about Britney. The fact that you had to resort to another person other than Britney to “prove” your point should show you that Britney isn’t as “huge” as you think she is. Honestly, lets just agree to disagree at this point.

      • S****** Blonde October 10, 2012

        you answer my question.

      • JOHNVIDAL October 11, 2012

        F***! @s******
You are dense today. Our point is Britney´s not Marilyn Monroe type of iconic figure. And that Whitney houston is bigger in all kinds of levels than britney, and will forever be, including the iconic part. She will be more remembered. Being a t*** sensation, even if the biggest ever, doesn´t do that much for you. Compared to people who gets to everybody in the f****** world.
@MC just explained to you. There are countries in which few English music is heard. And people making it there are micheal´s and Whitney´s. Nobody else. And at that specific front Whitney even wins Madonna (yes I know she is the most succesful female ever, but “I will always love you” is bigger than anything, except for Michael Jackson)

      • irene46 October 11, 2012

following the atrocity that was her performance at the 2007 vmas, britney’s career began spiraling into the gutter of the forgotten. had the media not had a ‘jones’ for her ‘hit me baby one more time’ days (and still do) and started piling on the extreme hype, like she’s a present day record selling phenom, she would be a vague t*** memory.

whether one thinks marilyn monroe was a talent or not till the day she died, she never lost what the audience loved. the same can’t be said for britney.

  20. Peter Griffin October 10, 2012

I hate that so many popstars are converting to TV personalities. You just realise how dull they are.

  21. Michael October 10, 2012

Im glad you cleared that up. I love me some britney. I used to be a big britney fan back in the day. Britney could dance her ass off. Back in the day. But i was finst to say. How can see sing a Whitney song. When she can’t barely sing her own sings without autotune. Isiah Classic Food is available on kindle.

  22. King. October 10, 2012

Girl, why? Hopefully she’s just talking…

  23. JOHNVIDAL October 10, 2012

I´m glad she is presenting some things. This tribute is going to be what the general public around the globe was waiting for. I already said it these past weeks. We need global stars to pay tribute. Whitney was so much more than a black American singer. All those tributes from BET, etc have been great. But the world needs this
They are going to show Whitney´s performances and pics so it´s going to be even better
So nice from britney, I know she always cited Whitney as an inspiration when she debuted and I remember reading an article in Rolling Stone Spain with Britney saying Whitney´s debut album “Whitney Houston” is one of her top5 favorites of all times (the other 4 were Michael albums I think)

    • Lax October 10, 2012

Whitney paved the way for so many and even though
things happened like they did for Whitney, the truth is Whitney loved all people and Whitney’s musical style and talents crossed all DEMOGRAPHICS. I wonder what was said by the other singers when Whitney album the soundtrack became the biggest album in the history of music, what if they was fickle like all of you shyt talkers are, just know that whitney was born with it just like i’d say Jennifer hudson but whitney wasn’t trying to out do anybody and all of the weak minded folks are always trying to point out others weakness and try and make who they want to shine , shine hateful bytches.

      • JOHNVIDAL October 10, 2012

What are you talking about? You´re high as f***. this is about legendary Whitney The Voice and Face Houston and nice girl Britney Spears knowing who the true greats are 🙂

  31. SHUH October 10, 2012

They could do with Leona Lewis in that line-up. If you’ve heard her covers of I Have Nothing and I WIll Always Love You, she’s definitely more than capable of paying tribute to Whitney who was obviously a big inspiration to her

  32. mob: come here & let me hold UR throat October 10, 2012

WTF IS REALLY GOING ON HERE?

Ppl get mad when I rail against the FAKE, CONTROLLED, CORPORATE OWNED MEDIA & MUSIC INDUSTRY. This is yet another glowing example of that control. Don’t get me wrong I like Brit Brit but WTF does she have to do wih WHITNEY HOUSTON? I would much rather see Xtina – a vocalist – tribute Witney “THE VOICE” Houston. THE ONY REASON SHE HAS BEEN ADDED IS BECAUSE SHE IN CURRENTLY JUDGING A TV TALENT SHOW. Money has exchanged hands for something like htis to happen. Damn what makes sense to the viewing audience and the fans of the late diva!!! 🙁

CONTROLLED & LIMITED OWNED MEDIA/MUSIC INDUSTRY WILL BE THE DEATH OF QUALLITY ENTERTAINMENT…MUSIC, FILMS, TV!!

controlled, and contrived. you’re so right. when a talentless empty vessel like britney is elevated to mingle with the likes of true artists, it’s a sad day in the industry.

the media and the music industry have taken britney under their wings out of sympathy. they admittedly love her because they claim her to be sweet, nice and humble.

        so much for talent!

  33. mob: come here & let me hold UR throat October 10, 2012

LOL I had to re-read this LOL, Brit will be introducing segments…okay but they still could have gotten ppl who actually knew the diva like BRANDY, MONICA, hell even Jordan Sparks. I still call bullsh** on this one folks….

  34. Setra October 11, 2012

I can’t wait to see this tribute, it’s got quite the line up of celebrities, Britney included. I also look forward to seeing Usher, Jennifer Hudson and Celine Dion perform. I’m glad my DISH coworker suggested I watch this. I won’t be able to watch it live, but I’ll be recording it on my Hopper with the PrimeTime Anytime feature. I love how I can set this up to record all prime time programming that comes on the four major networks. It’s convenient not having to set up individual timers for my favorite shows.

Im so happy i love britney and whitney
