This category is based on urban airplay and sales. Rihanna had a big hit with Birthday Cake and Talk That Talk this year making her one of the 3 most played female artists on urban radio for the year. This award show is not based on talent just popularity and airplay.

It’s the same for all of the big selling artists who have experienced decreases due to downloading and leaks. Anyway, Bey’s last album was not exactly commercial or pop. R&B is the lowest selling genre so her sales were great considering those factors. But since her sales were lower than her other 3 albums (though still higher than many of her peers) some of her haters try to label the album a flop. That’s why her fans are kinda “spazzing out” over all of the awards and recognition she has recieved during the ’4′ era. It shows that the people who want to label ’4′ a flop ARE WRONG and it also shows that her decision to make a non-commercial, R&B album has not diminished her status as a LEGEND in the making.

The nominations are based on airplay and album sales. Beyonce was the most played female artist at urban radio this year with Love On Top, Party and Dance For You. Rihanna was close with Birthday Cake & Talk That Talk followed by Mary J with Mr. Wrong and other random songs from her last album. None of them had HUGE hits but this is a reflection of the lack of effort R&B artists are putting into their music lately with the exception of Brandy, Miguel and Melanie Fiona who will be nominated next year.

The point I’m making is that no matter how good your product may be, you still have to work hard to promote it…with or without a 360 contract. You also have to make quality music that is appealing to buyers. R&B isn’t dying because the genre isn’t popular. R&B is dying because ppl got tired of hearing the same songs and beats over and over again. While I may not be a big Beyonce fan, I have to admit that she works HARD to make sure that her music is unique and to make sure that ppl know that her music is out. Brandy just had a #1 single and it was because she worked her butt off to make sure her fanbase was behind her and that her music was actually good and appealing. Thats real talk!
