Drake & 2Chainz: ‘No Lie’ Hits 1 Million Copies Sold Mark

Published: Friday 16th Nov 2012 by David

…and they say Hip Hop is dead.

In a day where many performers struggle to live up to commercial expectations, it’s safe to say that Young Money’s Drake is one of a few exceptions.

Second only to mentor Lil Wayne with regards to pulling in Hip Hop numbers, the Rapper has now seen his star power secure fellow MC 2Chainz his first single to move over 1 million copies, digitally.

Details below…

Released on May 8th, the Def Jam backed by number has now been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, for sales of over 1 million copies in the US alone.

What makes its success even more of a surprise, is that it only scored a peak position of #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon release, but did hit #1 on both the US Rap Songs and US Hot R&B/ Hip Hop Songs charts, marking one of the highest selling singles of the year.

As of November 11th, the single’s supporting album ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’ has sold 375,000 units since its arrival on August 14th.

    2pac – CHANGES:

I see no changes. All I see is racist faces.
Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races we under.
I wonder what it takes to make this one better place…
    let’s erase the wasted.
Take the evil out the people, they’ll be acting right.
‘Cause both black and white are smokin’ crack tonight.

    2 Chainz: NOE LIE

    2 Chainz and champagne
You want true, that’s true enough
    Forbes list like every year
My office is my tour bus
She came through, she brought food
She got f*****, she knew wassup
She think I’m the realest out
And I say “damn, that makes two of us”
And only time we chill is when we kill each other.
It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other.

GET THE F*** OUTTA HERE!!!!! HIP-HOP, TODAY, IS F****** B******* AND IS DEAD.

    • the real xoxo November 16, 2012

2pac did have quite a few songs about f****** b****** partying etc. but I completely agree with your sentiment.
Go get Kendrick lamars album and restore your faith in hip-hop.

      • That B*tch (redbone) November 16, 2012

I agree. The hip hop world does give this man far too much credit.
You are blinded by his death because he died in his prime which made him look like the messiah of hip hop.
He did have some deep stuff but some of his songs were disgusting and degrading to women.

    • That B*tch (redbone) November 16, 2012

Jake thats because you dont listen to real hip hop artists like J.Cole, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, maybe Eminem if you’re into his crazy ass, etc. Old Kanye was wonderful, I still listen to his old stuff when he first came out. However Drake is the best mainstream rap artist we have right now.

      • not here for it November 16, 2012

everyone you just named are sellouts and are no way shape or form are real hip hop

    unaFLOPgetic my ASS

KEYSHIA COLE all the way baby

    • NYMARCUS November 16, 2012

yall hate but we will see if keyshia outsels rihanna be it in album sales or single sales just being realistic

      • NYMARCUS November 16, 2012

      • That B*tch (redbone) November 16, 2012

        Who cares?!?!?!?!
        Keyshia is better.
Quantity =/= quality. Rihanna is tied for most top 10 singles with the late Whitney Houston I believe. Does that mean she is better? Hell mothafuckin NO!

      • HOTSTUFF November 16, 2012

        @That B*tch

Well in that case @J shouldn’t be calling Unapologetic a flop. If you’re using the word FLOP, means you’re talking about sales. And Unapologetic WILL outsell keshia cole’s album.

      • That B*tch (redbone) November 16, 2012

Girl thank you. You just proved my point.
You said Rihanna will outsell Keyshia. As I said above, QUANTITY =/= QUALITY. What is so hard to understand?
You just reaffirmed what I’m trying to prove.

    • That B*tch (redbone) November 16, 2012

      Yes gurl!

    • prettigurlrockD Bitchess November 16, 2012

I don’t like keyshia but yas lol

Good for them and the haters are always Laughting and poking fun at Rihanna
and no matter what RIHANA will always be able to tap into what is for her and the Devil in Hell will not and can not stop Her so Download, steal, cheat and lie and keep it going the the harder you try to keep a working girl down Haters, Bey Hive it will not stop Shyt,,,,Rihanna and her team will just have to keep working as hard
and as smart as they can now want, they GUETTER RATS!!!!!!

    • LndoftheBlind November 16, 2012

Actually the Devil is the one she is “tapping into”, he’s the reason why she is on every magazine cover, has sponsors out the wazoo and gets movie roles, and has all the #1 singles all without any talent. She has signed a contract in blood and has literally sold her soul.

Same goes for this talentless “rapper” who has just sold 1 million. Do you see the symbol he’s making with his hand? It’s a “6” pointed downwards. He is showing his allegiance to Lucifer the prince of the air, he’s actuall in the heavens, not hell. He’ll be sent to the lake of fire when Jesus returns. Rihanna was making the same symbol on her recent GQ cover, a “6” pointed downwards. They are slaves to the machine/beast until they die unless they repent and give thier lives to Christ.

  6. JER November 16, 2012

Ummmm most hit songs of any genre sell anywhere from 600k -1.5 million. This is not news. Call me when it sells 5 million

  7. the real xoxo November 16, 2012

the fact that 2 Chainz album has sold more than Nas’ album makes me weep for hip-hop.
Supporting Kendrick Lamar, Azealia Banks, Hopsin, AB Soul etc.

  11. Outspoken November 16, 2012

Nope Hip Hop ain’t dead thanks to Kendrick Lamar . Good Kid MADD City #RapAlbumoftheYear

  12. MC November 16, 2012

Hip-Hop is not dead, no one said it was dead. All these rappers (good or not) debuting high with 150-200k or like Lil’ Wayne 1 million etc so they sell really well…..its R&B that’s dead. Rap & Hip-Hop like in the 90s is selling really well. Rap/Hip-Hop, Country, Rock, Pop sell where R&B etc doesn’t.

    • mobwife:”Nobody’s Perfect”….well, but ME November 16, 2012

“Hip Hop is DEAD” is a classic dropped by NAS a few yrs back! I think SAM ass making a play on words. Also, those who really hate the HYBRID Pop style of music believe that certain artists (Eddie Munster-Drake is one) are kiling Hip Hop by selling out!

Yes, R&B, Jazz & Classicaal music are not given the resources and industry – media support Pop, Country & Rap receive!

    • LndoftheBlind November 16, 2012

Hip Hop IS DEAD! This new form of “hip hop” is not hip hop. Timbaland and Missy (rap pioneers) in a recent interview spoke on the subject and how everyone has the same beats and arrangements in thier songs, there is no creativity, they all rap about the same things: strippers, money, drugs, material possessions and b******. That is not hip hop. You must be under 25 and need to go back into your history books to learn what real hip hop is. I don’t even think Jay Z is real hip hop, he’s overrated and married to Beyonce which makes people think he’s more than what he is, lyrically he’s fallen off.

R&B is alive and well, it’s just not as popular as it was in the 90s and even early 2000’s. Artists who sing R&B have not degraded the integrity of the music like these new “rappers” have done to hip hop. Just because trash is selling like hot cakes doesn’t mean it isn’t trash, it’s still trash. You just have people who buy what they are told to buy and what they are told is “cool” for right now. Hip Hop is dead.

      • MC November 16, 2012

First of all, yes I am under the age of 25 and this has nothing to do with what we are talking about. For you to tie my comment to my age is very ageist of you and its ignorance. Its true that people under 25 tend to have weak taste in music but you can’t apply that to every person, and certainly not me. My comment had nothing to do with “Real Hip-Hop”, it had everything to do with Hip-Hop of today selling. Its true that true Hip-Hop has died along with the legends and those who shaped it and we are now left with b******* that is confused as “real music/real Hip-Hop” however, you can say the same for real R&B, Pop, Country, etc….ALL of these genres experienced “death” of its true form and instead replaced with shells of its past form. No one makes R&B like the 90s (Brandy, Monica, Toni, DC, TLC, etc) or pop (Mariah Carey, Celine, Whitney, etc), Country (Bonnie R, Dolly p, etc….), etc……all of these genres are replaced with Trey Songz, Rihanna, Ke$ha, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, etc……

        It happens……..

  13. Monstarebel (RiRis S** Slave & Nickis Side H**) November 16, 2012

Congrats to my gworl drizzy she slays and I love 2chainz>>>>>

  14. mobwife:”Nobody’s Perfect”….well, but ME November 16, 2012

    The Devil is a liar!

2 Chanz formerly Titty Boi is the worse Rapper I’ve ever heard. Hell Gucci Mane has more vocal/rapping ability……..this guy is as bad as SoulDUH Boy…ewwww.
Kanye West can wave his hand over any dry bones and work magic can’t he? LOL 🙂

Drake get’s over cause there is NO ONE ELSE in the game. It’s clearly no due to anything else…….well he is half white/jewish which makes him a media favorite for obvious reasons! But what is he rapping about on this song? And what did 2 Chainz say throughout the damn song? Who bought this?

    *paging 2Pac & Biggie from the great beyond*…..LOL 🙂

  15. November 16, 2012

Who cares? 2 chains is 40 year old garbage!!!

  16. Suicide Blonde November 16, 2012

Of course Hip Hop is not dead, Eminem is still alive, thank God!.

    • Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ November 16, 2012

Eminem???? Gurl bye. But I guess you would enjoy the POP-HOP “Recovery” album now wouldn’t you?

      • Suicide Blonde November 16, 2012

“Recovery” was a great album b****, Slim is the best rapper ever and his white, deal with it.

    • Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ November 17, 2012

If you think that Eminem is “the best rapper ever,” that proves that you know NOTHING about hip-hop.

You will never get a real connoisseur of hip hop ( i.e. not white people who ONLY listen to Eminem to quench their thirst for hip hop) to agree with you on this point. They will never say Eminem is the best. Not because he is white. Only because he’s not.

      And YOU will deal.

  17. Belladonna November 16, 2012

I’m so happy for 2Chainz I had a feeling he would be something amazing but I didn’t know how long it would take him. I love and hate drake at the same time. Lol Some of the s*** Drake says might be true but that dosent mean he’s not f***** up for Thinking it. Lol Somtimes he make positive music and sometimes he’s just as f***** as the rest.
