Published: Sunday 4th Nov 2012 by Sam

Ne-Yo is back!

This week marks the release of Motown star’s fifth studio album ‘R.E.D’ (Realizing Every Dream).

A stellar collection, the set sees the singer-songwriter return to his R&B core. With its lush melodies and radio ready hooks, ‘R.E.D’ reminds the masses that R&B can be commercially viable in the present Pop-focal climate.

We’ve had the album on constant replay here at That Grape Juice and are sure you will too when it arrives this week! Hence, so as to give you a taste, we present

      • Benron (King Of The Navi))(Mc is a h**) November 4, 2012

B****, choke on a d***. You wish you were from Africa.

      • MC (Benron is a drag queen) November 4, 2012

Benron, I know right! This b**** thinks its insulting. Little does she know that we all have a common ancestor that comes from Africa, Ethiopia to be exact. Chock on a d*** indeed.

    • JOHNVIDAL November 4, 2012

Wow Whitney during the Bodyguard era:
the biggest era by a female artist in music history. Nothing more to say

  2. tomuchenfo November 4, 2012

How is this guy still relevant. He makes the same music. I swear the song titles look familiar

  3. bruno mars November 4, 2012

i heard this album..it leaked 4 days ago…he shouldnt have been insulting trey songz because his album has 3 good songs of which 2 are on the deluexe edition

    • Mario November 4, 2012

and Chapter 5 had no good songs on it

      • damn November 4, 2012

because 4 top 10 rnb singles on billboard clearly supports what you say

      • AmbeRussell November 4, 2012

charting success does not equal quality music. Usher’s dive>>>trey songz’s dive

  4. the real xoxo November 4, 2012

its okay, but thats the problem. its just okay. nothing new or creative, just same old same old, and its not as if ne-yo has ever been AMAZING.

  5. christinastherealtalent November 4, 2012

It’s not that Ne Yo isnt relevant its just that R&B is not what’s popular right now. Otherwise, Usher and Chris would still be doing it.

    • Mobwife November 4, 2012

Chris & Usher are both singing R&B so have several seats. You just worry about wideload losing weight and not producing another Bionic ….k?

  6. CURLY SUE November 4, 2012

Sounds solid. Ne-Yo already took the full-blown pop route, and you see where that took him….absolutely nowhere. I’m sure he’ll have a good balance of his signature R&B joints and the dance tracks that he loves…

  7. James227 November 4, 2012

There just to many R&B songs on this track but hay it sounds nice but not nice enough to buy tho. Maybe on singles here and there but now the entire album.

LMAO at Sam saying they have this on repeat

  8. Honey CHILD please November 4, 2012

I like the album……There are still people who love r&b who actually support the artist so shut your pop tart ass up ugh *applies lipstick*

    • CURLY SUE November 4, 2012

Thank you!!! And pop music doesn’t guarantee album sales! Who’s selling besides Katy, Gaga & Adele (even tho she doesn’t do pop music)? I happen to love R&B and I will always support it!

      • Honey CHILD please November 5, 2012

Yes i agree these people are so ready to knock R&B when a lot of people still listen to it…they just don’t buy the albums which is really sad, because they be the first ones to cry when people take the pop route

  9. Honey CHILD please November 4, 2012

I hate bootlegging ass b******…F*** support your fav, and good artist you broke ass bum b******

    • Mobwife November 4, 2012

      PREACH!!!

It’s disgusting how folks treat their own but whine about the music they make. If you don’t support the artists when they make music you enjoy then STOP COMPLAINING if they decide to branch out and do other things!

  10. KERI HILSON’S QUICK WEAVE FROM SALLY BEAUTY November 4, 2012

I don’t know why Ne-Yo pretends he’s this amazing example of modern day r&B. He sings POP songs that are produced by WHITE SWEDISH MEN (the star whatever production team). Can’t get any less R&B than that!

    • Rihanna black madonna November 5, 2012

      Stargate are from norway, h**

  11. eric November 4, 2012

I’m surprised to hear a large amount of r&b on this album, because the pop material is pretty much all that Ne-Yo promoted. I’m curious how things might be and who may have followed behind Ne-Yo’s example if he had pushed for the attention of r&b fans.

    • IDK November 6, 2012

      I thought the same thing.

  12. RoyalKev November 4, 2012

Damn Ne-Yo went back to the lab and got right! Cracks in Mr.Perfect is serious! I’m surprisingly growing more interested in RED!

    • Mobwife November 4, 2012

Yes, CIMP is serious and pure! I typically enjoy Ne-yo’s music, it’s just his “lip moving” that tends to turn me off!! LOL 🙂

  13. Mobwife November 4, 2012

I really like the first song okay and the second one too! 🙂 The CD sounds like it’s going to be nice and pretty much like all his CDs.I hear no surprises which is fine! I’m not sure what you are talking about @SAM/TGJ? Why can’t ppl simply make the music they enjoy and to hell with how the POWERS THAT BE will choose to classify it?

  14. King Ne-Yo Stan November 4, 2012

Yassss!!! R.E.D is coming for your fave’s wig… Already snatching 99 other wigs on iTunes japan!!

This is def on the same level as Year of the Gentleman. It slays tbh.!

I just feel like ppl have preconceived ideas about artists. Especially americans. Stop blaming artist for their sound and what they did in the past or whatever the f**k is happening in their private lives.

It should be about the music and the music alone. Ne-Yo is huge outside the US cos ppl use his music not the fact that “Libra Scale flopped” or “he sold out R&B”.

Hoping that this will have decent first week sales!!! Yasss slay my KING

  15. AmbeRussell November 4, 2012

the stuff sounds decent. ppl say he is doing the same old same, yet his last album had a theme, story line with all the music videos, up beat dance songs and ppl didnt buy it. dont knock his hustle and yet u all want keyshia cole to be unhappy with every album. her last album did poorly not bc the music was happy, it was bc she had lack luster lyrics that were very cheesy. neyo went back to his roots a bit and is doing r&b. so what is it doesn’t sell, if he’s is happy…

  16. wowthere November 4, 2012

Neyo should have Bruno Mars write his songs for him….Bruno will outsell him anyway…

  17. bibi93 November 4, 2012

    Good songs

  18. cocobutta November 5, 2012

His pop route put me off..
    Turn The LIGHTS OFF!!
    CLICK
    Switches off!

  19. Tee November 5, 2012

Shame on you Neyo, that ‘Miss Right’ track is from 2years ago and was put up on the web as an unreleased track. Not feeling this album or his music anymore, dont understand how you can have this on repeat in your office???????

  20. antertain November 5, 2012

    Stress Reliever

YES THIS IS THE REAL NE-YO
But i Let Me Love is a banging pop track so couldn’t hate him on that one.

Cracks in Mr. P is sickkkk also. Well written and delivered

  21. BCinKS November 5, 2012

I can’t do it. All his music is starting to sound too similar. Does Stargate still produce 98% of his beats? If so, he REALLY needs to work with somebody else. These songs could’ve come from any of his previous albums. Since he does his own writting and a lot of his own vocal arrangement, using the same producer over and over again makes his music stale.

  22. LittleJohnny November 5, 2012

I’m liking it Neyo. Think I will be in BestBuy tomorrow to cop the album.

  23. Real Music Please November 5, 2012

To be honest Neyo really never made an song or an album that will make most people buy it!! To be totally honest his music just f***** sucks!! I mean come on man, how many more got damn times can you do the shame sounding music over and over again??? This is why I refuse to support these artist; yeah they don’t make music for me, but damn if you really think about it, people are moving towards, and looking for music that is definitive, long lasting, has its own sound!! This s*** these mainstream artist put out isn’t being embracde, barely purchased, or winning awards like they want them to!!! Until a b**** can BBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTT!! they’ll NEV ER SELL!!!

  24. IDK November 6, 2012

    Its ok.

  25. Alex November 6, 2012

Unpin this topic no one cares for Neyo

  26. Ziggy Stardust November 6, 2012

I like what I’m hearing so far. I notice more and more artists are trying to go into the R&B route. I was waiting for this! Everyone doesn’t have to do, “pop” or “euro techno” music. So, it’s nice to hear a little bit of R&B here and there to balance things out.

  27. DD1G November 6, 2012

Not every artist needs to do something dramatically different with each album, and not every fan base appreciates that kind of switch up. Some fans like consistency. What I like about a certain artists music from jump I expect to get every time they put out new material. I don’t want some radical shift in sound that isn’t what I became a fan of.

My fear with Ne-Yo was that he was turning pop and chasing after the “Call Me Maybe” crowd. I’m still not totally convinced that he isn’t; “Let Me Love You” is *not* for me or his long time fans, and I don’t appreciate it…but I will say that based on the songs I’ve heard thus far, my mind is starting to ease a bit. A week ago I had him pegged every bit the sellout Usher is; now I’m ready to write off LMLY as either a momentary misguided transgression that can be forgiven if he is willing to return to his roots…or a strategic move to get radio on his side so that when he releases his more familiar sounding material, he will have built up some credit so that it isn’t totally snubbed. That one might be reaching a bit, because Ne-Yo isn’t some planet owning singer like Adele and thus doesn’t have the power to contradict the direction of top 40 radio.

    We’ll see.

  28. Monstarebel (RihannaNavy & TeamMinaj) November 6, 2012
