Congratulations are in order for Def Jam’s Rihanna today.
Yes, after seven years of going without a #1 album in her domestic market (the US), the Pop gem has finally scored the feat with her new album ‘Unapologetic‘.

In at #1 with a commendable 238,949 sold this week, ‘Unapologetic‘ surpasses sales of every other US release this week, marking the singer’s first time atop the Billboard 200.
Indeed, while she is still yet to match even the worst sales scored by many of her closest rivals, her current chart reign can only spell good news for both and her team, who succeeded in selling the LP on the back of its lead single, ‘Diamonds‘.
As it stands, the album has peaked at #1 in the UK, Australia (Urban) and of course, the US, almost falling prey to Taylor Swift‘s ‘RED’ which came in with 180,547 units one month after its October 22nd release.
She’s come a long way, hasn’t she?

Expect record sales for unapologetic when its all said and done. She blows away the competition, because like other artist who tend to fizzle out after first week, Rihanna’s sales continue to build even years after her albums are released. Loud still selling, talk that talk still selling and GGGB still selling till date. SHe is a marathon seller not a sprinter.

Rihanna sales always baffle me .. She’s considered the same level as gaga who sold a million her first week (actually 600K since a lot were from that 1 dollar thing) and considered by her stans to have surpassed beyonce who they call a flop yet 4 sold over 300k first week and she’s yet to come even close to beys lowest. It may just be the navy dnt buy cds I don’t know. But anyway congrats to her! I actually like this album and bought one. I haven’t bought a rihanna album since rated r .. But i know I better get into this one quickly cuz I’m sure they’ve already gearing up for november 2013

You cant casually bring up adele as if those kind of sales happen for every major star .. get the hell out of here .. people many of you loose sight of the Fact that Rihanna according to many of you isn’t this or that you say shes supposed to be on gaga level ,,,, that does not mean that Rihanna is supposed to match gaga toe to toe in nothing.

Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary – Coming right after “Nobody’s Business,” it’s hard to think that the first half of this seven-minute two-parter is channeling anyone but Chris Brown when Rihanna sings, “You took the best years of my life / I took the best years of your life / Felt love struck me with a knife / I pray that love don’t strike twice.” But just before things get any more somber, the song takes a confessional shift when the “Mother Mary” part kicks in, with Rihanna softly singing, “Mother Mary / I swear I’m gonna change / Mr. Jesus, I’d love to be a queen / But I’m from the left side of an island / Never thought this many people would even know my name.” A deeply personal song sold by Rihanna’s uplifting vocal.

See, a way for celebrities who aren’t really famous (Real Housewives, Bachelor contestants, Jersey Shore castmembers) to stay in the media is to trash other celebrities — usually via Twitter. Everyone loves controversy, right? And you’d be hard-pressed to find a better celeb to bash on twitter than Rihanna since she pretty much always tweets back — even to random people.
Rihanna hasn’t tweeted back to Farrah, though, so if that was her intention, looks like it backfired. And if it wasn’t — well, Farrah, that was just mean.

TIME Magazine posted a list of “best and worst of the 2011 Grammy Awards”. Rihanna’s performances got the highest mark “A” naming one of the best performances of the night. Here’s what they said:

Congrats to her and Sam for not being shady with the ROC Nation’s #1, lol. It shows that Rihanna has a slowly rising career, not a quick to the top and fades out like Britney, Ashanty, Ciara, Brandy and soon to be Gaga. Because she’s always around the 200K mark, theres no fall, the others like Bey and Gaga try so hard to stay #1, there will come a time when a newbie comes for that spot, but if you’re like Rih and ride the coast line as #2, the other will just skip by her and that is why she will be here years to come. Her career is build slowly, one brick at a time, from the bottom (Music of the sun) to the top (this album for now). Vs the ladies that started out on the top and when the other albums don’t do as well as there 1st, then they fall off quick cause they have no bottom, they started out on top. Swift is doing great, but when the nest album sell less then a million, they will call her a flop and she will fall faster then a ball thrown in the air, can you say Usher? I fell sorry for Gaga right now.

True, and I shouldn’t used Usher in that, cause he too started out slow in 93, became a star in 97 and became mainstream superstar in 05, Same with DC, Aaliyah, Janet. The best example I can use is Pink. As the other pop stars topped and try so hard to hold on (Britney and Xtina), Pink rode the #2 coastline and is still here, she always got a hit or 2 on each album.
