Tonight marks the return of BET’s highly anticipated ode to women of color ‘Black Girls Rock’.
Much like its ‘BET Honors’ counterpart, the event is set to showcase some of music’s best and brightest performers to serenade and shine light on women of color who have made impacts on their respective personal and professional communities.
Airing moments ago, the Tracee Ellis Ross / Regina King – hosted showing, taped October 13 at New York City’s Loews Paradise Theatre, honored actress Kerry Washington (‘Scandal’) and songstresses Alicia Keys and Dionne Warwick as well as featured performances from the likes of Ciara, Brandy, Keyshia Cole, India Arie and more.

I think you miss the entire point of Black Girls Rock. If you were watching tonight, which you probably weren’t, you would know that the idea of this movement is for black women to promote uplift and acknowledge their positive contributions to community and to be proud of who they are as no other outlet uplifts black women like they uplift white women.
Beverly Bond spoke on the importance of teaching young women their value and their talent, how there is more to black girls than what is below their waists, and more than the negative stereotypical images the media portrays of black women and black girls. The sad thing is in your ignorance and blind worship of Rihanna and Nicki, you want those stereotypes reinforced. Rihanna and Nicki are NOT ROLE MODELS nor do they provide anything relevant to the black community accept for their ass, tits, and dried up lose boxes. They aren’t even talented. The only reason why they are “doing it big” as you say is because they are good trained dogs for the white man who secretly pull their strings behind the curtain. They take their clothes off at the drop of a hot and have some of the most raunchiest derogatory lyrical content in their music.

The movement celebrates black women from all spectrums, especially talented but marginalized women. Alicia actually gave the best performance I’ve seen from her in a good minute..
Brandy of course was amazing and gave vocals for days as usual. Keyshia brought it vocally as well! Ciara had great energy and it seemed like the vocals were live. Her voice sounds stronger! India sounded great.

Then men were amazing. I actually enjoyed their performance out of all of them. Brandy did well, her voice was more raspy than usual, but she’s been on tour so I give her a pass. I loved all the performances, all I saw was talent!
India.Arie is an amazing singer/songwriter! SWV were great! Love Alicia Keys’s New Day, I’m not impressed by Girl On Fire but it was still good!
I’m laughing so hard at those people who says Rihanna and Nicki Minaj should have been there. Excuse me, microwave music, electro pop, bad performances? They had nothing to do there!

I don’t know what people are seeing.
None these performances were amazing minus a few. Keyshia Cole and Good vocals don’t match. All over the place like usual.

Keyshia – performance and stage presence was GREAT. I need her to keep performing like that. She clearly has IT but she is inconsistent. If she becomes more consistent with her performances she can eventually go from theaters to arenas… Def gonna get her CD.
not that there is anything wrong with being in theaters cuz alot of people would love to be in her position. Also, It is time for Keyshia to try to break into the UK/ Europe market. if Mary J can get into arenas in Europe and the UK so can Keyshia.
Brandy – I luv her but that song needs to grow on me.
Akeys – consistent and talented….. and that is why she is an international superstar
Ciara – great performer but I need to hear some more singles before I commit to buying an album. I like Sorry and Overdose but that is it so far.

I have to say that the entire show was full of entertainment.
Alicia’s New Day opening was Fire! She was straining (like most people say) and she did a great job.
Brandy was awesome! She was all the way grown, graceful and sexy in a very subtle way. The vocal runs >>>>>>
Keyshia did very well. I think she really gave her all last night.
and that Ciara was hot on stage. She gets so much unnecessary shade , but she’s so good at what she do and has her own lane. There’s room for everybody with talent!

I don’t see the big deal…it was obvious cc lipped…but we all know she can’t sing…so what…she had prerecorded vocals…even her talking in the beginning wasn’t live…its not that serious… she rarely sings live…love brandy but she was a bit boring… kysha was surprisingly good…even missy lipped her part…there was a part that the camera cut away cuz she lipped too soon on her part…cc did the same if you look closely…

B-Rocka but croaky then her usual smoothness but she been singing A LOT around that period. Good Job
Alicia sounded much better than recent showings and she is an ALL or nothing singer. She wisey pulled out of doing som notes but mch improved overall.
Love the start.
Keyshia Cole: Sing ike that live more & also hit a couple more big notes in the hook. Lovin the song & want her album.
CiCi is a LETHAL WEAPON on the stage. OWA intro was that show!!
That MORE than makes up for vocal flaws & a least that side has progressed slightly. CiCi does make good R&B when she does i (Promise, So Hard etc..)

Keyshia’s Live vocals have improved soooo much, i always thought of her as just a studio singer because alot of the times she gets up on stage and sounds hoarse but this perfomane was great!
Coko is a beatst!

Brandy did great! I just wish they would add more choreo. to wildest dreams . I thought Keyshia was okay her vocals are getting stronger. Ciara just killed the dancing and SWV was hyped up by themselves but I still liked the performance and the men…one word IDRIS and he didn’t even sing! ha ha YAAAASSSSS IDRIS!!

I don’t care what anybody says Brandy’s performance was boring like she is a great singer but i’ve seen better performances of WD (I love brandy btw so dont come for me)
Keyshia coles performance was boring too but she sounded really good her voice improved a lot (I like keyshia so dont try it)
Alicia keys sounded ok it was forgettable (Bitch fell off)
Ciara was very entertaining( i didnt say the bitch voice was just outstanding so chill the fuck out) But she just had the best performance she gave a great show

ok at firt i was mad that all yaull kept saying ciara was not singing liv but i watched iton here i see why u guys said that, the soundis coming before the actual movement of her lips and body. which happens alot with recordings
however i watched the ontv sunday and she sang life
and she KILLED IT, to death
im reallyhappy with her, she is comin full circle and
