After what seems like an eternity, January 16th 2013 marks the arrival of the new and improved ‘American Idol‘, starring dated diva Mariah Carey and ‘Masquerade‘ Rapper Nicki Minaj.

Sure, the performance doesn’t hold a candle to this summer’s “Call Me Maybe” singalong, but the adorable children singing background and Carey’s breathy high notes make the video irresistible. One thing that most kids won’t find in their classroom, though, is Mariah Carey. The newest “Idol” judge surprised the studio audience when she walked in to join the band on her signature Christmas classic.
As usual, she sounded impeccable. Maybe she can grace the American Idol audience with those world-class pipes of hers. And if she and fellow judge Nicki Minaj have truly buried their hatchet on their feud, maybe they could even sing a duet.

Mariah Carey has kicked it off with her iconic version of “All I Want for Christmas” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
On Tuesday, R&B star Carey joined Fallon on tambourine and drums and The Roots playing musical instruments usually found in an elementary school classroom to croon her famous tune with some kids joining in on the chorus.
The whole thing happened backstage in the Late Night music room before the show, according to nbc.com.
The song, from her 1994 album “Merry Christmas,” became a mega hit single and has remained at the top of the holiday music charts since then. In 2003 “Love Actually” with 11-year-old actress Olivia Olson performing the song.

See my early comment up top. Mariah has had her share of bad performances (see Triumphant performance, MJ funeral, etc) and her lipping performances are just…….”otherworldly” but her voice CANNOT remain as it was and songs that you suggested are layered with vocal transitions from head to lower registers that make them really hard to perform so I really don’t expect her to perform them. Mariah already proved herself in her prime but she cannot be expected to do such things today…..unless she continues to perform the way she has been doing and resting her voice correctly.
