After breaking the record for being the UK’s fastest selling solo album of 2012, Bruno Mars’ US sales for ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ have arrived today. Want to know what the ‘Grenade’ singer sold this week?
First week numbers below…
First Week Number: 187,339 units
Chart Position: #2
Impressive.
Of course, while his countless hits released since 2010′s ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ should have ensured he pulled in Drake esque numbers, these first week numbers will come as a pleasant reminder of his commercial power, for both he and his fans.
Sure, while we were expecting him to shift a little more than he did, it should be noted that ‘Hooligans’ arrived with 55,000 copies in first week, but went onto move 1,800,000 units in the US and over 1 million units in the UK. A fact, many should be more aware of.
So, if prior sales runs are anything to go by, Bruno is set to fare very well with ‘Jukebox’- if it follows ‘Hooligans’ slow but consisten sales trend. Either way, whatever it goes on to do, Mars remains one of Pop’s strongest contributors- boasting a dedication to his craft many of his contemporaries could learn from.

Oh well. I didn’t buy it, so I don’t care.
In happier news, Rihanna’s wack ass album slid down to #15!
Unaflopogetic is about to rule discount bins in ’13!

But you shaded Rih for selling 238,000? What’s the big deal? I dont see anything wrong with Bruno’s first week numbers. I think its pretty good these days. SO i DEFINITELY don’t see anything wrong with selling 238k.

Rihanna sold that much after almost a decade of longetivity and seven albums, while Bruno Mars’ first album was released last year and he managed to sell almost 200k copies the first week with just the second album. NOW do u get it ?

Listen, she was a newcomer that wasn’t selling that much when she FIRST came out in 2005 when people STILL BOUGHT ALBUMS for the most part instead of illegally downloading shit. She wasn’t as big as she is now back then. She happened to start peaking in her career (From Good Girl Gone bad and on) when our world economy declined and people started to buy albums less and less. This is a situation that even Rita Ora will have to deal with. Rita has good music but with the internet and illegal downloads and this economy, its going to be even harder to sale 150k by the time she reaches her peak. The Music industry just isn’t the same anymore.

Are you serious? Her stans ruled her a global act. A global act doesn’t. Sell 238! She sold less than what they predicted.

I agree in that YMCMB purchases CDs of its top artists and Bruno is now being shoved into the R&B category (see The Peoples Choice Awards). The media-music industry shenanigans tend to dictate CD sells as well!

Doo-Wops & Hooligans was just that CD tho!!
Unfortunately, I’ve not heard one song that I can honestly say has grabbed me like the endless stream of hits Doo-Wops & Hooligans produced! I wish him well with his new effort.

Congrats. I actually thought he’d do less, around 50,000, so 150 k + is great, especially given the type of music he makes in this generic Pop industry.
