‘Unapologetic’: Rihanna Suffers 70% Sales Decrease

247232ea12793091e7dae4f556a7f52a Unapologetic: Rihanna Suffers 70% Sales Decrease

‘That Rihanna reign just won’t let up’.

Says who, pray tell. Sure, as far as the Hot 100 goes, very few can of a chart run as as impressive as Rihanna‘s- with 60 million digital singles sold since her arrival seven years ago.

Unfortunately for her, despite scoring her first US #1 album with ‘Unapologetic‘ last week, her run on the album’s chart took a cruel turn for the worst this week.

Chart check below…

Unable to match feats landed by Lady GaGa, Nicki Minaj and her idol Beyonce (who have all enjoyed multiple weeks in the Top Two), Ms. Fenty failed to nab a second week atop the Billboard 200 after she suffered an unfortunate 70% decrease in sales, pushing an embarrassing 72,356 units.

Outsold by Taylor Swift‘s ‘RED‘ (135,682 units) and Alicia Keys ‘Girl On Fire’, the Elijah Blake aided album now sits at #6, set to drop further next week with the arrival of many a Christmas release.

What makes the singer’s sales tumble all the more worse, is that has failed to match second week numbers secured by that of  Beyonce‘s ’4‘, which moved 115,ooo units in ‘week 2′ despite the benefit of a smash hit akin to the Sia penned ‘Diamonds’.

Worse yet, might be the fact that the album now looks set to ‘enjoy’ a slow ascent to the 1 million units sold mark- facing the same fate as her 2011 ‘Talk That Talk‘ which took a year to reach Platinum status.

Sorry about it.

    • My thing is this….Rihanna outsold both Brandy & Christina Aguilera’s first week sales in her second week. But TGJ still bashes her? However, when Brandy (who only sold like 66,000 in the FW) depressing sales came, they defended her like it was no damn tomorrow. Same for Xtina…smdh. This site needs a little more professionalism. smdh

Especially when talking about the one that pretty much keeps this site alive. As I recall, Rihanna’s posts are the ones that receive the MOST comments…in fact, didn’t she (Rih’) break a record when they posted about her #1 single, Diamonds? again, smdh.

She had REAL TALENT to back her shit up unlike Rhi who is just hot because of a few singles and showing her Cooch and tits all over the place with meth head Chris brown. Christina also has the actual TaLent to back her up so its not a big deal for them not to sell day one dumb ass! The expectations for them are not to sell as many units but give quality work which they both have done….

She’s gonna have to release that song with Chris to save this HORRBLE ass album! Once AGAIN she is gonna exploit getting her ASS BEAT and mock DV just to get a hit! First she played ‘victim’ now she’s PRETENDING to be in love! PATHETIC!! She always uses Chris for attention when her sales are LOW and he’s just to busy playing in her INFESTED vagina to realize it! Bwhahahhahaaha!

Other than ‘Diamonds’ which is peaking, ‘Nobody’s Business’ is the ONLY radio friendly song! All the other songs are BORING, SLOW ballads or TRASHY, GHETTO club records! She has NO substance in her music! She just FOLLOWS trends and will do ANYTHING to get a hit! She is such a pathetic Island SLUT!! Bwhahahahaha!!

Its common knowledge that Rihanna is more successful in the U.K. You can’t always try to up Bey even against Facts. And those who cry about Rihanna releasing an album every year, and saying she is afraid that the public will move on, FYI,,,. I guess the public had already moved on when Bey released 4. Of course she was being Inspired, Borrowing, Adapting and Copying for her next Project. After gathering so much Inspiration the album sold less, in Bey’s Standards. Rih has released an album every year since 2009 and “Talk” still sold as much or better than “4″ World wide, considering that it is 6 months Younger. Either Yo Asses Is Pissed that Rih drops a Album A Year or you are Bitter Pissed and Upset that it sold Good, which calls for a all out War Because then yo Asses say Her Music is Generic, or Micro Wave Popcorn,,,,well I suppose the buying public bough just enough to help Rih making it over the finish line with a # 1 FOR THE FIRST TIME OF HER CAREER,,,,,,

      • Unapologetic is Rihanna’s seventh album in seven years–when you churn out that many albums people begin to expect each one to be better than the last. Does her album stand up amidst all the gossip and controversy? RiRi has been in the spotlight for quite some time now, and her choice to collaborate with Chris Brown on “Nobody’s Business” kept it shining brightly. It seems as if the songstress is taking on the mindset of the name of her album and being “unapologetic” for all things, especially given the chaos that her 777 Tour has turned into. See the critic’s reviews,,,,

      • Fun and Addictive
“There’s something about Rihanna. And her producers. The singer’s new album her seventh in seven years is like many of her other releases, full of songs that are catchy, fun and addictive. Her albums are almost like listening to a “NOW” compilation disc. “Unapologetic” is no different. It’s full of future hits, and not a single miss.” Mesfin Fekadu, Huffington Post.

      • Raising Expectations
“On paper, Rihanna releasing her seventh album in seven years would suggest a quantity-over-quality work ethic that’s bound to wear thin. But on “Unapologetic,” Rihanna proves once again that she can set — and often raise — the bar for modern pop music. Like previous Rihanna projects, “Unapologetic” is destined to crank out at least five singles over the next 12 months (or until it’s time for the next album, anyway).” -Andrew Hampp, Billboard.

      • She Keeps Her Cool
“[Rihanna] is steely and unforgiving and bulletproof, a pleasure-guided man-killer with concrete for skin. That doesn’t mean she’s never hurt on “Unapologetic” (Def Jam), which is one of her best albums, along with her 2007 breakthrough, “Good Girl Gone Bad,” and her 2010 pop peak, “Loud.” But even on the most vulnerable songs, she maintains her cool, never once verging on the maudlin. On an album full of dyspeptic relationships, it is the breath of cool, nourishing air.” –Jon Caramanica, New York Times.

      • Mixed Messages
On Rihanna’s seventh studio album, “Unapologetic” (Def Jam), the singer one-ups the exploitation industry by dueting with her former boyfriend and abuser, Chris Brown, to declare that their tempestuous romance is “Nobody’s Business.” Initial reaction: This dysfunctional couple has turned the track into a sick marketing ploy. You can even dance to it! The production casts the song in strings, piano and a four-on-the-floor kick drum, a canny merger of Chicago stepping music and golden-age house. Talk about a mixed message. – Greg Kot, Chicago Tribune.

      • Nothing New
“During its best moments, you’re struck by the suspicion that Unapologetic’s producers might be trying to undercut the lyrical content. Numb apparently returns to the subject of Rihanna’s personal life – “Can’t tell me nothin’ … I don’t care, get closer to me if you dare” – but the music doesn’t sound defiant: it lurches and drags along, an oppressive mass of slowed-down voices and grating electronics.”- Alexis Petridis, The Guardian.

      • Fast Food
Were all this effort in service of a new fast-food burger launch “Unapologetic” is the aural equivalent — the pitch might read, “More defiant, now featuring dubstep!” Which is to say, while the new Rihanna record may be at times sonically exciting, what resides beneath the new bass-heavy, Skrillex-inspired music is still a fast-food burger, one with a lot of extra sauce and some very disturbing ingredients. – Randall Roberts, LA Times.

She couldn’t even clear 300k first week and not even 80k second week! FLOP! FLOP! FLOP! Bwhahahahaha!

While Rihfund is busy running around Europe chasing Chris Brown’s dick, her album is STALLING on the charts! Instead of trying to make Karrueche jealous by constantly Instagraming pics of Chris, she needs to be promoting her FLOP album! Maybe she should take all her clothes off again, that usually gets her some attention! Bwhahahahahaha!

She will NEVER be a LEGEND like the QUEEN Beyonce! Rihtardana only sells sinlges NOT albums like the QUEEN Bey!! Rihflop should just go back to Barbados and suck dicks for a living! That’s where her true talent lies!! Bwahahahahaha!

On paper, Rihanna releasing her seventh album in seven years would suggest a quantity-over-quality work ethic that’s bound to wear thin. But on “Unapologetic,” Rihanna proves once again that she can set and often raise the bar for modern pop music.

Amping up on urban, dubstep-leaning R&B and scaling back on the often awkward sex jams that populated the second half of 2011′s “Talk That Talk,” “Unapologetic” is Rihanna’s most confident, emotionally resonant work since 2009′s “Rated R.” There’s hard-hitting club songs (“Phresh Out The Runway,” “Pour It Up,” the Ginuwine-sampling “Jump”), feel-good dance jams (David Guetta-produced “Right Now,” Chris Brown duet “Nobody’s

A surprising abundance of heartfelt ballads (lead single “Diamonds,” “Stay” featuring Mikky Ekko, the confessional suite “Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary” and bonus track “Half Of Me”), all of which showcase Rihanna’s voice in ways the listener hasn’t heard before. Like previous Rihanna projects, “Unapologetic” is destined to crank out at least five singles over the next 12 months (or until it’s time for the next album, anyway).

Phresh Out The Runway – “How could you be so hood but you’re so fuckin’ pop? How could you be so fun and sound like you’re selling rocks?” Rihanna quotes one of her doubting peers in this swaggering, gritty club banger produced by The-Dream and David Guetta. “Unapologetic” is all about shaking up expectations, so opening with a straight-up hip-hop track produced by the biggest name in EDM quickly sets the tone.

        Diamonds
As written by dance-pop torch singer du jour Sia Furler, “Diamonds” finds Rihanna doing one of her throatiest, most impassioned vocals to date (and one that seems to be channeling Sia herself) on this inspirational pop ballad. And as a strategic shift from recent singles like “Talk That Talk” and “Cockiness,” “Diamonds” further positions Rihanna in new stylistic categories, lest she settle on one format for too long.

Numb (Featuring Eminem) – The last time Rihanna teamed with Eminem, it was on the massive, emotional “Love The Way You Lie.” This time around, the duo only has the club on its mind on this slow-grinding, Middle Eastern-flavored party track, which opens with Rihanna shrugging, “Ecstasy in the air / I don’t care / Can’t tell me nothin.’”

Pour It Up – It’s not just the dudes who can flex their money and love of strippers. Rihanna turns her often-racy Twitter feed into an irresistible, Mike WiLL-produced banger for the ladies, chanting “Pour it up / pour it up / watch it all fall out” over a hypnotic beat and handclaps.Take note, 2 Chainz, Juicy J and the like – Rihanna’s coming after your territory.
Loveeeee Song (Feat. Future) – Future’s Auto-Tune-soaked plea for “love and affection” gets a definitive response from Rihanna on this percolating duet.

Jump – Sure, “Gangnam Style” is the horse-dance craze of 2012, but Ginuwine’s “Pony” has been having quite the cultural renaissance this year, thanks to its key role in the summer blockbuster “Magic Mike” and now this dubstep-ified update from Rihanna. “Jump” is an answer song of sorts to Ginuwine’s 90s classic, adding new verses on top of the existing chorus, which now erupts in a wall-shaking Skrillex-worthy breakdown. “You think I give a damn / but you know who I am / I don’t go around chasing no dude,” Rihanna reassures her conquest.

Right Now (Feat. David Guetta) – Perhaps the only song that adheres to the expected formula carved out by “Loud” and “Talk That Talk,” “Right Now” is a straightforward, four-on-the-floor feel-good anthem for the clubs. Thematically identical and musically similar to Ne-Yo and Calvin Harris’ “Let’s Go,” “Right Now” is exactly what you’d expect from the latest Rihanna-Guetta team-up, and nothing more.

      • RIHANNA ALBUM REVIEW
What Now – An unexpectedly vulnerable ballad from Rihanna that finds her acknowledging “this lump in my throat” before letting loose on an epic chorus that hits harder than anything she’s done in years. An emotional highlight on an album filled with moments of resonance in its second half.

      • RIHANNA ALBUM REVIEW
Stay (Feat. Mikky Ekko) – As premiered on last week’s “Saturday Night Live,” “Stay” is Rihanna at her most intimate – a piano-backed duet with Brooklyn singer-performance artist Mikky Ekko with a 70s AM-radio melody that recalls Elton John or Billy Joel. If this is Rihanna indulging her adult-contemporary side, she couldn’t have picked a stronger ballad to demonstrate it.

Nobody’s Business (Feat. Chris Brown) – If “Nobody’s Business” featured anyone but Chris Brown, it would still be celebrated as a wonderfully catchy throwback to early-90s club music. But because it’s a duet in which the tumultuous lovers proclaim “you’ll always be the one I want to come home to” and “you’ll always be my baby” for the world to hear, it makes the beyond-complicated circumstances of their history impossible to ignore. Judge for yourself — just try to resist the song’s many Michael Jackson-worthy charms.

Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary – Coming right after “Nobody’s Business,” it’s hard to think that the first half of this seven-minute two-parter is channeling anyone but Chris Brown when Rihanna sings, “You took the best years of my life / I took the best years of your life / Felt love struck me with a knife / I pray that love don’t strike twice.” But just before things get any more somber, the song takes a confessional shift when the “Mother Mary” part kicks in, with Rihanna softly singing, “Mother Mary / I swear I’m gonna change / Mr. Jesus, I’d love to be a queen / But I’m from the left side of an island / Never thought this many people would even know my name.” A deeply personal song sold by Rihanna’s uplifting vocal.

Get It Over With – Taking the tempo down a notch, this dreamy track from James Fauntleroy and Brian Kennedy, who co-wrote half of 2009′s “Rated R,” is a chilled-out, reflective song that finds Rihanna “wondering why you keep thundering / won’t you just fuckin’ rain / and get it over with.”

Farrah Abraham, a woman famous for getting pregnant as a teenager, has gone and bashed a legitimate celebrity. Rihanna. I know. The nerve. During the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, the Teen Mom star took to everybody’s favorite vessel for talking crap, Twitter, to make some low-blows at the pop star and her performance at the show. I mean, Rihanna may not be your favorite celeb in the world, but she is famous for having a legitimate talent. Farrah? Not so much. And it wouldn’t have even been that big of a deal — people talk smack online constantly — but what Farrah said was bad.

Farrah’s tweet read: “Downer Rihanna singing @#VSFashionshow that just made the show cheaper, why isn’t she wearing diamonds?”

“Downer”? “Cheap”? Jeez, Farrah, what did Rihanna ever do to you? Nothing. Which is exactly why this tweet is suspicious to me …

See, a way for celebrities who aren’t really famous (Real Housewives, Bachelor contestants, Jersey Shore castmembers) to stay in the media is to trash other celebrities — usually via Twitter. Everyone loves controversy, right? And you’d be hard-pressed to find a better celeb to bash on twitter than Rihanna since she pretty much always tweets back — even to random people.

Rihanna hasn’t tweeted back to Farrah, though, so if that was her intention, looks like it backfired. And if it wasn’t — well, Farrah, that was just mean.

  • “Another bogus celebrity lawsuit has been filed in federal court … this time, the troublemaker claims to be Chris Brown … and he’s filed an INSANE lawsuit against Rihanna.

TMZ has obtained the documents, filed in U.S. District Court in Tennessee … in which “Chris Brown” is requesting a restraining order against Rihanna because he fears she will cause him bodily harm.

The suit contains the following (completely untrue) allegations:

    – “[Rihanna] gave me herpes and then when I threatened to file a lawsuit against her for not telling me she was infested with genital blisters she began to hit herself in the face and throw herself into walls just as Jim Carrey did in the movie ‘Liar, Liar.”

“Then she turned around and blamed me for the matter as a form of punishment.”

    – “I woke up with three blisters on my penis … this isn’t just a regular case of American herpes, this is a case of Herpes from Barbados, which is most likely lethal.”

The accuser is demanding $10 million … along with “a restraining order against Rihanna and her case of genital herpes immediately.”

TMZ broke the story … someone claiming to be Selena Gomez’s father filed another bogus lawsuit in Michigan — accusing Justin Bieber of stealing his credit card for a penis enlargement.

Clearly, the allegations contained in the lawsuits are completely untrue … and if the culprit is identified, he or she could be punished by the judge.

I guess the labels don’t stop to think how strange it looks for one of their artists to have 10 or 15 million followers, but for instance, sell only 100k or less the first week.

I need NUMBERS. If you think that Phillip Phillips counts, he doesn’t. Check the numbers. Calculate Taylor Swifts’s first week numbers to her second week, your logic still doesn’t hold. Check Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” second week numbers: same thing.

A copy of the demo was sent to Def Jam Recordings, where Jay Brown, an A&R executive, overheard it and played it for the label’s then-president, Jay-Z. When he heard “Pon de Replay”, Jay-Z was skeptical about Rihanna at first because he felt that the song was too big for her, stating that “when a song is that big, it’s hard for a new artist to
      come back from.

      Jayz stated that,,,,
I don’t sign songs, I sign artists”. Def Jam was the first label to respond and invited her to audition where she sang “For the Love of You” for Jay-Z and L.A. Reid of Island Def Jam Music Group. She was signed the same day and canceled a set of meetings with other labels. .
