YouTube Cracks Down On ‘Fake Video Views’ / Music Industry Suffers

Published: Friday 28th Dec 2012 by David

It’s the practice used to make videos seem more popular than they are actually, but after a monumental crack down by YouTube– billions of ‘fake views’ have been wiped clean from the video sharing site- leaving the music industry scorched.

Full story below…

After carrying out an audit of its viewing figures to counteract artificial watches, ‘Tube’ wiped 1 billion views away from videos released by Universal Music and 850 million from Sony Music, to name just two.

Reports indicate that YouTube believes that the views in question were doctored by hackers working on behalf of record labels, in a bid to inflate revenue generated by ads placed on music videos and the ‘perceived popularity’ of their entertainers. This, prompting the company to explain:

“This was not a bug or a security breach. This was an enforcement of our view count policy”.

So who suffered the most?

Well, following the dramatic slash, Leona Lewis lost a shocking 24 million views while ‘Unapologetic‘ star Rihanna and ‘Va Va Voom’ Rapper Nicki Minaj also suffered significant losses. Losses, that amount to over two million page views combined.

This will undoubtedly throw a number of ‘VEVO’ records held by a number of Pop staples into disrepute, if the practice of view doctoring is as wide spread as believed. Records, held by the likes of Rihanna‘s 2012 effort ‘Where Have You Been‘.

        I read that b******* article claiming they took views from Michael Jackson and Chris Brown. I visit both sited frequently and I see no changes. They just want to try and drag dead MJ & talk s*** about CB! Both of their views are within range. Next they are going to try to target Whitney I bet.

        Carly Rae Jesap, LMFAO and PSY’s numbers are total bullsh*t along with some of Lady Gaga’s. Don’t get me wrong’ Bad Romance’ was & is my favorite video from her but those view numbers of 300 BILLION (plus) in 1 month time was just too much to be believed… IMO!

        ABIDJAN: US rapper Chris Brown arrived with singer Rihanna in the Ivory Coast city Abidjan on Sunday, when he was due to perform at an African music awards show.

        Brown was billed as the star attraction at the glitzy Kora Awards, dubbed the “African Grammys”, that recognise musical achievements from around the continent.

        The event was initially set to take place on Saturday, but was delayed at the last minute. Organiser Ernest Adjovi initially blamed the delay on Brown missing his flight, but later said heavy rains and other logistical hiccups were behind the postponement.

        R&B star Brown landed overnight in Abidjan, the Ivorian economic capital. Rihanna, who hails from Barbados, was by his side, wearing dark glasses.

        Which site did you copy this news from? I love how Chris want from a US Rapper -which he is not – to R&B star, which he is!..LOL the games the media plays! The Ivory Coast is quite beautiful! I hope the weather improves and they are able to take in a few tourist sites. Their beaches are “to die for” …..

      because Rih Yo Ass need all the money you can get

      That should generate enough money to pay your bills all up
      for many more years in advance, Rihanna. And also since
      they say that your “Weak Ass Voice” of yours can’t carry a tune
      in a Brown Paper Sack, well tell them that your voice might be weaker then Beyonce’s or Alicia, you still was
      able to sell 316,00 albums this pass week, and remain at #6 on the global album charts while Diamonds is unmoved at number 2 with 406,000 units this pass week.

      And while we know that don’t mean Jack Shyt to yo many haters perhaps that will help you to at least get you and chris a “Happy Meal” from Mickey D’s.

      Rihanna and Chris Brown spend ‘happy and content’ Christmas together.

      Rihanna Chris Brown
      Try as we might to steer Rihanna in the exact opposite direction of Chris Brown, it seems our combined attempts are failing; she’s got it bad for that boy and there ain’t nothing we can do about it. Apparently, the pair have spent a ‘happy and content’ Christmas together.

      The couple – who’ve succeeded in making headlines week in week out with their on-again/off-again relationship – are said to have taken some time to chill out at his house after hitting up an LA Lakers game together on Christmas Day.

      As per HollywoodLife.com, a source said: ‘They went back to his place right after the game and chilled out and smoked. They just kicked it real tough and Chris got what he wanted for Christmas and a little more – he took a long a** nap and Rihanna was right there next to him.’

      The insider continued: ‘It was just him and Rihanna at his crib on Christmas and they did them. They had a quiet green Christmas. She had him all to herself. You know he love her and wants to make her happy on Christmas. It isn’t about going out and spending [a lot of] money and trying to be all Hollywood with it – they just want to be together and knock out, wake up, smoke, f**k, and do it all again in that order.’

      Lovely. Brown – who is still on probation for beating Rihanna back in 2009 – is said to be ‘beyond exhausted’ since returning from his extensive Carpe Diem tour in Europe and Africa, and just wanted to enjoy a few quiet days with the 24-year-old ‘Diamonds’ singer. Awh, the poor poppet, tired is he?

      The Diamonds singer posted a picture of them together with the caption ‘thug life #merrychristmas’ together on Christmas Day.

      So whaddaya reckon folks, are we flogging a dead horse here?

      • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ December 28, 2012

        NOT that FAKE fan-made certification from ATRL!!!!! OMG!!! Biggest joke of all time. That album sold 5.5 million world wide.

        US = 2.630.000
        UK = 1.111.600
        Europe = 1.000.000 (Platinum)
        AUS = 280.000
        CAN = 320.000
        Argentina = 20.000
        Chile = 5.000
        Colombia = 20.000
        Philippines = 15.000
        Middle East = 6.000
        Mexico = 60.000
        NZ = 45.000

        TOTAL of 5.512.600 albums sold WORLD WIDE.
        Are you trying to tell me that she sold 8.5+million OUTSIDE of the U.S.?!!? Even Adele’s ’21’ sold 10 million of its 24.5million ww in the USA (~40% of its sales from U.S. market) and Katy’s sales according to the 11 million would be 23% from the U.S.A and the rest, ~77% comes from elsewhere?!?! OMG. The delusion is so real.

  19. Taz December 28, 2012

    YouTube and VEVO views shouldn’t count for anything anyway. What kind of tinker toy era are we living in where tube views are being factored in to artists “success?” If your song is heavily played on the radio and if it’s selling considerably, then it’s a hit. How many times the video gets viewed online should never be relevant.

    • Teenage Dream (Beyonce’s Weave) December 28, 2012

      Welcome to the new music industry. The 90s is over and long gone, time to adapt with the times.

    • Mark79 December 28, 2012

      IA Taz. Streaming shouldn’t account for anything. Radio and retail have always been the benchmark of how well a song/album is performing, and should remain so. Factoring in streaming is not only futile, but also convolutes and throws things off keel, as this article pretty much details. Ever since adjustments to accommodate this so-called “new music industry,” everything has basically gone to pot.

      • PSA (FAF) December 28, 2012

        !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        It does not f****** matter ! Ppl watch videos just to type dumbass “like this” comments nowadays !!

    • Casual December 29, 2012

      I listen to most of my music on youtube. I have no control over radio, and I can’t recall how long it’s been since I actually paid to download a song or bought a CD. The paradigm has shifted over the past 10 years, and the market has evolved in such a way that streaming is just as valid a measure of a song’s/artist’s success as sales, and perhaps moreso than airplay.

  20. Teenage Dream (Beyonce’s Weave) December 28, 2012

    How many times a song gets played on the radio, how many times it’s streamed on sites like Spotify, Pandora…etc, How many VEVO/Youtube hits it gets, how many copies it sells, all of this adds to the success of the artist because in this new music industry, royalties have to be paid.

    In the new music industry, consumers have got more choices than ever, gone are the days when you have to buy an album filled with filler just to listen to the 3 songs you like, now you can simply log into your iTunes and actually buy the song you like, stream it online, view the video on YouTube/VEVO or simply request it on your local radio station. Billboard has changed its rules to clearly capture what consumers are listening to.

    For the naysayers, welcome to the new music industry. The 90s is over and long gone, time to adapt with the times.

    Ima need facebook and twitter to hop they asses on board with their followers and likes count. Aint no way these alleged “artists” have a million plus followers and likes yet sell only 100,000-200,000 in first week sales…you know who I’m taking about….

    • Lax December 29, 2012

      Good Luck with that because the end of the
      year charts has just dropped and Rihanna two
      albums which are still charting “Talk and Uno..
      Rih 1.6 Million “Talk” For 2012
      Rih 1.6 Million “Uno” For 2012
      has both moved 1.6 Million each Perhaps you might check on those Numbers also while u r checking, Deery!

  27. rozel December 28, 2012

    You tube could keep their views, because Rihanna has real numbers where it counts. Album sales, billboard charts, her #1hits and the Forbes top 5 female money maker of the year in music. coming in at #2 with 56 million for this year. Who’s sweating some YouTube views with all the other stuff she has going on.

    32 million Twitter followers helped Tamar Braxton get a hit, 60 million+ Facebook likes helped sell out the Stade de France and is a good market research tool for figuring out where to add Stadium dates (2 stadiums in South Africa, 1 in Ivory Coast), 26 Twitter followers helped keep Diamonds at #1 in Germany for 10 weeks, and #1 in South Africa for 8 weeks.

    Un4tunately someone’s Tumblr didn’t help Rita Whora get a hit……..**sips Coffee**

    I don’t know who’s writing for this blog but it seems like your a Rihanna hater and Beyonce lover and your trying to make Rihanna seem like she’s not that popular but in reality she is..Beyonce is popular too ..it’s funny how u Forgot to put beyonce name as well MJ and some others but u just want to single out Rihanna.How I feel about both women is this I don’t like Rihanna because she has a bad attitude but I can respect her because she keeps it 100% some might not like how she keeps it a 100 but she does ..Beyonce I don’t like her either because shes a big liar she always been a liar since her DC days and I hate a liar she has stolen people’s work and tried to pass it on as hers she has a lot of game with her so I don’t believe nothing that comes out her mouth ..but I can give her this she has a lot of dummy’s paying her bills and her vacations and these r the same dummy’s that call her King B and say SHE’S LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK YEAH SHE IS LAUGHING TO THE BANK WITH HER STANS MONEY..HA HA NOT THE PEOPLE THAT DON’T LIKE HER BECAUSE SHE KNOW HOW DUM Y’ALL ARE ..So do y’all RIHANNA & BEYONCE

    • MR BLACK MAN December 29, 2012

    • Lax December 29, 2012

      @CLEAR and while yo comment reads great until you singles Rih out for her Attitude. I mean its fair if that’s how you feel. I am happy to say that I got love for Rih and Bey. Where Rih’s navy and I come in at is when many tries to ERASE & FADE RIHANNA’S ASS off the MAP,,,and thats a no, no Because nobody can erase Rih or Fade her but the good Lord. And since I have never gotton into any artists attitude real deep that sounds like a “Personal Problem” to me
      it kind of reminds me of how i feel about a skunk, See I don’t dislike a Skunk I just can’t Stand his Scent.

      And yes the Grape do always single Rih out and that is because Rihanna is one of the many Artist out their in the
      game who has no problem getting off her ass and making shyt happen. There are many artist who are more blessed then Rih is with talents but one thing is for sure Rihanna knows how to take Lemons and make Lemon Aid and has proved it over and over again and I hate that you would write her off because of her ATTITUDE but like I said that is yo problem not mine I just enjoyed yo read until the part about not like Rihanna because of her attitude.

      You know I have been around the world three time and once by ROW boat and not liking a artist because of their attitude cooks the cake,,,

    Does Beyonce really want to release an album in 2013??? Does she really????

    • wrinkle flop ora December 28, 2012

      I said this this AM. Beyonce is going up against katy, but katy fans are growing and beyonce is declining. Katy’s personal life is red hot tabloid fodder in the USA. No care about beyonce personal life. Beyonce is performing on NYE, but where is the new single?

      • Teenage Dream (Beyonce’s Weave) December 28, 2012

        – Lady Gaga in the Winter

        – Katy Perry in the Summer

        RIHvember in the Fall

        There is clearly no room for Beyonce in 2013, I just don’t see any room for her. Does she really want to release an album in 2013??

        Beyonce only releases an album when there is no competition so she can snatch herself a #1 but even Britney Spears is releasing an album in 2013, Britney just sang some two lines in Will.I.AMs song and landed a #1 hit, where is Beyonce going to release an album?? Where?? There is just no room for her in 2013.

      Did you hear about TTT selling 3.3 million? It sold more in 2012 than it did it 2011. TTT will sell 4million in 2013. She is going on a stadium tour and TTT has some of her biggest hits. Una’ has now sold 1.6 million. Diamonds is still salying our charts and pour it up was sent to radio on the 27th and it getting killer spins.

      I feel sorry for beyonce.

      • Teenage Dream (Beyonce’s Weave) December 28, 2012

        Diamonds has been #1 in South Africa for 8 weeks and #1 in Germany for 10 weeks, Wow, Una 1.6 million in only 5 weeks, WINNING.

        I heard about Pour it up rising on urban radio, poor Beyonce, she doesn’t know what to do and that is why there is no single up to now, with only the SB barely a month away.

      NOT that FAKE fan-made certification from ATRL!!!!! OMG!!! Biggest joke of all time. That album sold 5.5 million world wide.

      US = 2.630.000
      UK = 1.111.600
      Europe = 1.000.000 (Platinum)
      AUS = 280.000
      CAN = 320.000
      Argentina = 20.000
      Chile = 5.000
      Colombia = 20.000
      Philippines = 15.000
      Middle East = 6.000
      Mexico = 60.000
      NZ = 45.000

      TOTAL of 5.512.600 albums sold WORLD WIDE.
      Are you trying to tell me that she sold 8.5+million OUTSIDE of the U.S.?!!? Even Adele’s ’21′ sold 10 million of its 24.5million ww in the USA (~40% of its sales from U.S. market) and Katy’s sales according to the 11 million would be 23% from the U.S.A and the rest, ~77% comes from elsewhere?!?! OMG. The delusion is so real.

    • Jayonce December 28, 2012

      I wouldn’t be surprised she had some pretty good hits on that album. Firework, Teenage Dream, California girls, Wide Awake, Apart of me and The one that got away. I love Katy and I think she’s the one to look out for in the future. Rihanna as well. She’s not even 25 and she’s making moves that beyonce couldn’t land till she was 28.

      • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ December 28, 2012

        I know that’s why I didn’t bother correcting the Rihanna figures you gave me because you said “15 million RECORDS” but for Katy you said “11 million ALBUMS” and that’s why you’re corrected.

      • Jayonce December 28, 2012

        These are girls are legends in the making. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Celine Dion, MJ, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin have done their fair share and are certified but they are old now along with most of their fan base.

        Rihanna, Beyonce, Gentlemen Gaga, Katy Perry, maybe Onika Minaj are legends in the making. They are only in the beginning of their careers. Why hate that? 5.5… 3.3… million copies of units sold is amazing considering we live in a time where technology is taking over. So if an artist can sell platinum of physical units then that is great in my book. Now shading someone just because your fave isn’t really doing much of anything anymore (Meaning in the music scene) is petty. Deal with it some other way. Rihanna and Katy are the new girls that are trying to become legends like the rest.

      • Touché December 28, 2012

        @ Jayonce, “Rihanna, Beyonce, Gentlemen Gaga, Katy Perry, maybe Onika Minaj are legends in the making”? You obviously must not understand the meaning of a “music legend” if you actually stated that.

      “Teenage Dream 11 Million “albums” sold WW”
      What b*******, b****. 11 million albums sold? HELL NO! Try less than 6kk, b****. Pathetic! Did they include unsold Part Of Me tickets on that s***? Probably.
      I see DefScam is teaching other labels how lie about their receipts. I can’t.
      Anyway, I am not surprised about it at all. Teenage Dream’s numbers are pathetic. She has been promoting this s***** album for 2 years, had several of fake and manipulated #1 hits, a flop re-release, a massive flop movie about the flop album – several empy theaters – and many other shits.
      They wish it had sold 11 million, but they have to face the horrible numbers of 6 million. And the tickets for her flop tour is like $1. I can’t.
      These b****** spend more time faking numbers than having a legacy. These b******’ career is build on lies. I really can’t wait to see radios turning their backs to these b******, and it will happen soon or later.

        “Are you not the one who all but abandoned your FAV Beyonce this morning in favor of Gaga?? ”
        What? I’m fan of Lady Godga for years, even before she had a top 10 hit. I listened to her stuff before she recorded Just Dance video. I’m fan before all the bandwagon. Just have a seat.
        I stan for King Bee, Lady Godga, Mariah and Godkira.

    @MC is starting to sound really pressed. We all know you do not favour the new generation so stop shading them and just stick with the ole bats in the retirement home. Maybe they can tell you stories from the war so your pressed ass can shut up already.

    • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ December 28, 2012

      @Joyonce aka I’m Blue Ivy b**** aka Eshjsjkg or whatever aka another pressed b****. It has nothing to do with my favor for them or not…..I actually like Lady Gaga, Lana Del Ray, Bruno Mars, etc and they are new artists but its about PLAIN OUT LYING. Katy Perry has sold 5.5 million albums world wide NOT even 11 million……lets not lie now…..

      • Jayonce (Jay Z alter ego) December 28, 2012

        Okay but you are sounding like Sam and if he is lying then who cares. IF you know the truth then say what you need to say and just keep it moving you know? He’s not going to stop spreading those figures around no matter if you disagree. And it’s Jayonce I am Jay’s alter ego… Get it right gworl… I know you know who I am. 😉

      • The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave) December 29, 2012

        @Jayonce (Jay Z alter ego)

        It’s because he thinks time stands still and people stop buying music at a certain point. Pon De replay was certified 2x platinum recently, people didn’t stop buying it, time did not stand still.

      • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ December 29, 2012

        @Jayonce

        The blatant lie is way too much. If I was like Sam then I would pick on Rihanna 24/7.

        @The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave)

        I’m a female and you very well know this because I’ve said it many times Mr. Hyde. It has nothing to do with time, it has to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. IF TD sold 5+ million this year then it could have outsold ’21’ and ironically you are the only person believing this figure even when the other katykats ADMIT its fake, but then again you did tell us that TTT sold 4.5+ million a couple of months ago when in reality it sold 3.3 million as of this week. You also tried to tell us that Rihanna has sold 41 million albums when in reality its 27 million albums.

Even Adele’s ’21′ sold 10 million of its 24.5million ww in the USA (~40% of its sales from U.S. market) and Katy’s sales according to the 11 million would be 23% from the U.S.A and the rest, ~77% comes from elsewhere?!?!

    I know, baby.

    Add to that, Facebook and Twitter followers. At least 30% are delusional.

    Not to mention album sales . . .

    – BEYONCE: 100 MILLION ALBUMS / PEPSI, while in reality it is 75 million AT MOST (with DVD and even soundtrack sales included).

    – RIHANNA: 37 (NOW 41) MILLION, while it is 25 million as of October.

    – KATY PERRY’S TEENAGE DREAM: 11 MILLION, while it is 6 million.

    And of course, stans go and use these numbers around without wondering: “WTF is going on?”

    • Gilberto December 29, 2012

      Teenage Flop sold around 3kk in USA and USA. I’m talking about real sales. There is no motherfucking way of selling 11kk in the rest of the world.
      A pop singer selling over 10 million albums is something you could only see during the 80’s and 90’s. Nowadays, it’s almost impossible. No one sells 11 million albums anymore… Well, unless you’re a Adele.
      The last album selling over 10 million from a pop-ish singer was Usher’s Confessions.
      Rihanna’s Loud, Beyoncé’s IASF and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way were bigger than Teenage Dream, and they didn’t sell 10 million. IASF outsold Teenage Flop everywhere (minus Australia), and it did not sell 10 million.

        The ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ and ‘Teenage Dream’ era’s aren’t even comparable.

        ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ sold 7.1 million CD albums worldwide, ‘Teenage Dream’ sold 6 million.

        ‘I Am… World Tour’ grossed $120 million worldwide, ‘California Dreams’ tour grossed only $60 million.

        ‘I Am… World Tour’ and ‘I Am… Yours’ sold 800.000 DVD’s worldwide, ‘California Dreams’ DVD isn’t even planned to be released yet.

        ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ won 6 Grammys, ‘Teenage Dream’ won ZERO.

    This also makes anybody wonder how many labels actually by their own artists albums just to make it look like people are actually checking for them. isnt it funny h it took rohanna 7 years, 7 albums to not only gain her first US #1 album and her best first week sales, Diamonds goes #1 that same week th in the weeks following the album and song fall down the chart.

    Other notable channels affected include the ones belonging to Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Beyoncé, and Avril Lavigne, among others. More than 500 prominent YouTube channels have been stripped of preexisting YouTube views in the past 30 days, something that causes concern when you consider that YouTube views counts, unlike subscriber statistics, are cumulative and cannot organically drop at any point throughout their existence.

      B****, you’re so dumb. Shipments and sales are completly different. Shipments mean that at least X copies of an album hit the stores. That’s it. This “2 million shipment” is the certification, it got a 2x Platinum certification. It isn’t the real number.
      You can easily sell 10 million albums and only have 1x Platinum for it. Why? Because shipments are not sales. Labels need to pay for a tracking shipment company (like RIAA, ARIA and IFPI) to certify an album.
      IASF sold 3 million in USA and it only “shipped” 2kk. Loud sold 1.6kk in USA and only “shipped” 1kk. Dangerously in Love sold close to 5 million in US and it only got a 4 million shipment.
      If you were in touch with charts like I do, you would know that it’s pretty common to have albums that “sold more” than their shipments.

    • Gilberto December 29, 2012

      “That tells me I am Sasha Fierce did not sell 7 million but anywhere between 5-6 million.”
      B****, you can believe on whatever you want. You don’t even know the difference between shipments and sales. LOL. No one can take your b******* serious.

      • The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave) December 29, 2012

        The Certification Process

        The process begins with an independent sales audit of each title by Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman, an accounting firm that has been auditing title sales for the RIAA® for 30 some years.

        The audit calculates what product has been shipped for sale, net after returns, versus product used for promotional purposes, for the life of the release. When certifying audio and music video releases, the independent auditor is careful to survey the entire music marketplace. An artist’s Gold® or Platinum® award represents sales through retail, record clubs, rack jobbers, and all other ancillary markets that legitimately distribute recorded music. Once a title’s sales has been audited and verified as having reached requisite levels, a formal certification report is issued and sent to the title’s music label.

        We are often asked why we don’t just use sales figures from SoundScan. SoundScan measures over-the-counter sales at music retail locations, while the RIAA®’s certification levels are based on unit shipments (minus returns) from manufacturers to a wide range of accounts, including non-retail record clubs, mail order houses, specialty stores, units shipped for Internet fulfillment or direct marketing sales, such as TV-advertised albums. Another difference is that SoundScan’s archive only begins in 1991, while the RIAA has tracked artists’ sales levels for more than 50 years.

        If a label ships 2 million, there’s no way it can sell 2 million+ (e.g 2.5 million). Where did the 5 million come from because the 5 million is also tracked by RIAA??

      • The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave) December 29, 2012

      • Gilberto December 29, 2012

        @The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave)
        So according to you, a label can’t ship more albums after a certification. LOL! You’re so dumb. Don’t use SHIPMENTS as SALES. They’re not the same.
        Please, explain me how did IASF sell 3 million in USA when it only “shipped” 2 million? I dare you. How did Loud sell 1.6 when it only “shipped” 1 million? LOL. Like I said, shipments mean that at least X of copies of an album hit the stores. You can sell 10 miilion and only get a ceritication for 1 million copies shipped.
        Labels are always shipping albums. Here in Brazil, we have access of the shipments’ number codes from every album since 2003, so it makes easier to understand how it works.

      • Gilberto December 29, 2012

        “If a label ships 2 million, there’s no way it can sell 2 million+ (e.g 2.5 million). ”
        B****, you don’t know how much did a label shipped. You only know the minimum amount of album shipped. That’s why I have said f****** hundreds of times that SHIPMENTS mean that at least X copies of an album hit the stores.

        “Where did the 5 million come from because the 5 million is also tracked by RIAA??””
        I didn’t get the 5 million thing.

      Actually, it was CERTIFIED 2x platinum in Europe back in mid-2012, when it was still 1.1 million in the UK (see: year-end charts)

      And now that it has sold 1.5 million (see: official charts, ukmix), it must be AT LEAST 2.6/2.7 million in the entire Europe (do some basic math, see: updated sales).

      • The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave) December 29, 2012

        You do know UK is part of Europe. That means it Shipped 2 million to EU but is yet to sell 2 million in EU, it only did 1.5 in the UK and is yet to sell 2 million in EU. UK is part of EU.

        That still brings it under 2 million sold in EU. So when did the back-ordered 600K – 700K you’ve added come from??

    AAAANNNNNNNDDDDDDD SHE IS SELLING PEPSI?????

    In a lively video released Wednesday, Beyonce, clad in short shorts, green knee socks and signature stilettos, leads a cafeteria full of kids in a dance routine, encouraging them to move their bodies. Beyonce created the video to promote First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign, which seeks to curb childhood obesity.

    North America : 3.3m (3xp in the US and Canada)

    South America : 400k [360k (2xd) in Brazil]

    Europe : 2.6~2.7m (5xp in the UK)

    Africa and the Middle East : 100k (2xp in ZA, 1xp in the ME)

    Asia : 300k [200k (2xg) in Japan]

    Oceania : 300k [260k (3xp) in Australia, 2xp in NZ]

    What I want to know is when did the people who ordered the 600K to 700K get their back orders if IFPI has it shipped at 2 million??

    Someone even admitted that it only did 1.5 Million in the UK, so it did 1.2 million in the rest of Europe?? Especially vs back-orders of 600K to 700K. Come on now, this is BS. It did not sell 7 million.

    Platinum in the UK is 300,000 copies, and BPI has IASF at 4x Platinum so that 5x platinum is inflated.

    You can look it up. So we also know that it only sold 1.2 million in the UK

    That’s all I want to know, how did IASF sell 2 million in Europe when we all know Beyonce doesn’t sell big in EU. Even today, you’ll find TTT, LOUD and to some extent GGGB on most of the charts in EU, you cannot find IASF nor 4 on any so how did it sell 2 million in EU??

    @female mj

    YAWN.

    European certifications are based on SALES, not shipments

    http://www.ifpi.org/content/section_news/plat_criteria.html

    ^^^^^^^ Read the 4th clause.

    Plus, 1xp in Europe = 1.000.000, so if IASF was CERTIFIED 2xp in mid-2009, it means it had SOLD AND NOT SHIPPED 2.000.000 in Europe AS OF MID-2009.

    And like @Gilberto told you, rec labels gotta pay a certification body to RE-certify a certain album’s sales, and as you know, Sony/BMG don’t give a f*** after a while….. In other words, who knew? It could be 3m in Europe now.

    But considering it continuing to sell fastly even and get new certifications in multiple European countries, particularly in the UK, even after it was certified 2xp, it MUST be +2.6 million.

  75. Gilberto December 29, 2012

    @The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave)
    You can think whatever you want, b****. It isn’t like your opinion matters. You didn’t even know what shipments were two minutes ago before I schooled you tired ass. Don’t act like an expert, because you can read Wikipedia. You can say that IASF sold 1k, and we wouldn’t give a s***.
    Beyoncé stays unbothered selling 100kk albums. :sipspepsi:

  76. BEYHIVE MEMBER December 29, 2012

    @The Female MJ

    Stop with that BPI s***.

    So if BPI didn’t CERTIFY IASF 5xp, means it didn’t sell 1.5m?

    Since f****** when do certifications = sales???

    Do you mean to tell me it hasn’t reached 3m in the states as well, just because RIAA didn’t certify it 3xp???

    Gorl BYE with your double f****** standards.

    • Gilberto December 29, 2012

      Stop schooling him. I’m just laughing at his ignorance. Every time I see a r****** talking about charts and vocals, I know s*** is coming.

  77. Gilberto December 29, 2012

    The problem with rihtards is that they think everyone else is a “local” artist and only R****** is a global star because she’s popular in Europe. DEAD. R****** can’t sell albums in South America, Oceania and Asia. Her album sales are pathetic in North America. Why does make Europe market more relevant than the others? Why is she global when she can only sell albums for £3 on supermarkets in UK? I can’t.
    They cannot believe that other singers can sell in Europe, because they know it’s the only place where R****** sells albums.

    • Likica December 29, 2012

      LOL you are so dumb
      You fav can sell albums in Australia and Asia? Really? Her biggest selling album is at 3xPlatinum in Australia like Rihanna’s so both of them are not that big in Australia like Pink for example. When it comes to Asia, Lady GaGa and Avril Lavigne (especially in Japan) are the biggest international acts, both Rihanna and Beyonce are not that successful there, their Asian album sales are low. Europe consists of the Uk/Germany/France/Spain and Italy which are in top biggest music markets in the world, so yes h**, Europe matters more than the Usa. How do you know about Rihanna’s sales in South America? Judging by Brazil? Really? Yes, Beyonce has had a successful album there – IASF but Germany/France are bigger markets and your fav fails to sell there. the USA is Beyonce’s domestic market, for Rihanna it’s an international one since she is from Barbados. Btw Europe made you like the North America so shut your hole! Europe is the center of the world, you tried though.

      • quetta December 31, 2012

        But ths international act sold less than what the critics predicted. Sooo, it seems like the “domestic” star outdid the “international” star. #utried

    LMAO Poor souls.There goes the HIVS again talking about what Bey did in 2004-2010. You know what, they can’t say nothing about 4lop. LMAO I keep asking myself, where are the smash hits?? What happened to Run the Flop?? 4lop is blocked out!!! Even the HIVS don’t want to mention 4lop.

  81. Blue December 29, 2012

    Actually certifications are a very reliable sale estimate especially in countries that regularly update them. E.g the usa

    if your r certified 3 times platinum in the usa it means you must have at least sold 2 mil copies – 3.5mil

    as no label will ship 3 mil copies when an album tawny cracked 2mil at least or strongly belief it will and once you crack or are about to crack 3mil they would have to had ship additional copies.

    that is why artist who have only sold 500k would see their labels apply for a platinum certification as 1mil copies would have no doubt have been shipped.

    as a rule labels now ship 3 times their first week expectations on release.

    take gaga and her 0.99 deal for example
    her label and record stores expected her to do close to TF sales so they shipped huge loads of BTW only problem is that most of those potential sales went into that stupid deal which had record stores demanding refunds.

  82. Blue December 29, 2012

    But take into account that a label first have to apply for the certification. E.g Rihanna in the usa being a consistent 1mil seller would have retail stores ordering the same amount as they did for TTT. Meaning she could have already have shipped 1mil albums but the label will wait till she actually moves that much in over the counter sales before the ask for the certification.

  83. The real xoxo December 29, 2012

    Well done youtube for exposing these frauds.
    The labels cry about illegal downloading yet commit fraud. They get more money from advertisements so i hope the sponsors sue them

  84. BEYHIVE MEMBER December 29, 2012

    Again,

    @ female mj

    Good morning.

    Why does the ‘4’ era have to repeat the success of ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’, though?

    Who the f*** are you to judge a successful era from a flop one?

    Do you work at Sony?
    NO!!!!

    Do you know anything about the commercial success of selling +3 million CDs and DVDs worldwide?

    B**** you better shut the f*** up, specially when you don’t even know a mainstream single, from an urban-only single, from a promo single from a video-only release.

    And “SONY WERE WORRIED ABOUT ‘4’” is a f****** old story that goes back to early-2011, yes, AT FIRST they thought it would flop. But now, after ‘4’ acheived everything that a standard “WORLDWIDE HIT” album has to achieve, and all of its singles sold millions around the world, what do SONY need to worry about?

    Just tell me?

    THE EXECUTIVE of Sony/BMG music said, in an interview with MTV, that they were “VERY PLEASED” with the numbers. He said Sony were expecting ‘4’ to debut at #3 on the Global album chart, and it broke expectations. It went to #1, both on hard and digital sales charts.

    So, SONY and Beyonce are celebrating the tens of millions made out of the successful ‘4’ era, her career is safe, she’s not going nowhere and the only one fuming is YOU.

    wow the commenters on here are so annoying. He should ban some handles. So immature. All I see is a bunch of lame name calling over nothing much. People live their lives through these celebs and that is sad.

    And stop relying on worldwide sales numbers. They are typically inflated and unreliable. Not saying world wide global sucess is not important because it is but the US has the most reliable tracking system and is the biggest music market.

    LMAO!!! Great news
    We already knew youtube views are NOTHING. Real ALBUM Sales, impact, talent, musicianship are the important thing. Some Rihanna and other trash fans didn´t get it but it´s like that
    But NOW??? hahahaha maybe they are not even that popular, not even for their looks (which is why these videos get many views on youtube, not cos those artists are slaying s***)
    If that were the case: J.Lo and the Korean guy would be the biggest stars of the last decade… and well you know haha: did they sell more than 100,000 copies of their albums at least LOL

    • Lax December 30, 2012

      @RIHANNA HATERS,,,,
      Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

      RIHANNA NAVY!!!

      • Lax December 30, 2012

        RIHANNA HATERS,,,,,
        This life is what you make it. Not matter what, you’re going to mess up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends – they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, somg go. The ones that stay with you through everything – they’re your true best friends. Don’t let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they’ll come and go too. And babve, I hate to say it, most of them – actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can’t give up becuase if you give up, you’ll never find your soul mate. You’ll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.

    WELL IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME!Although youtube is not innocent in this “crime”, not by a long shot! 🙁

    I’ve been saying this for sometimenow. Ever since I found out you could purchase 10,000 LIKES on Facebook for $7,000. Then I discovered that you could get a MULTI-VIEW/COMMENT “robo-viewing system” account on Youtube. H** the hell do you think Justine Bieber, 1 Direction, Lady Gaga, Carley Rae Jesapand that damn PSY got so many views? It’s sickening.

  94. mobwife December 30, 2012

    “Apparently, Alicia Keys and Rita Ora alone lost 850 million views on their videos. Fortunately, their pockets won’t be hit as hard as others who rely on “view count” as an advertisement technique.

    Top videos such as Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”, Psy’s “Gangnam Style”, and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” all took a huge hit from the site’s new view count policy, being that many of their views are from hackers.

    Both Sony and Universal were stripped of over 2 billion views once YouTube’s new policy kicked in, since it’s believed that they hired hackers to increase the views and likes of some of their biggest videos. ” ~ Per Globe Grind

  95. mobwife December 30, 2012

    Now there needs to be some changes in whose CDs get realsed worldwide at the same time on the same day! Some artists like Rihanna, Beyonce, Jayz, Bieber etc CDs are releasd to 70 countries on the same day while other acts are sent out over a 3 week span. However, the industry is bitching about piracy. Both hard and digital copies should be released at the same time IMO.

  96. Stop Worshipping Humans December 30, 2012

    Seriously this makes no damn sense. All the power and money these fools have ALREADY and they have to be more fake and MORE GREEDY?

    So all those idiot-worshippers who brag about so-and-so being special because they have ___million views look even more pathetic right now.

    This is ridiculous. I don’t know why anybody supports the music industry anymore, most of it is full of talentless brats (see photo above) who don’t even make the music themselves, and the people who do make it sound just like all the other damn songs on the radio! Stop supporting it, spending your own time and money so they can live out fantasies of elitism.

  97. quetta December 31, 2012

    Soooo, nicki and rih lost 2mil altogether? Wouldn’t that mean the 100mil+ views they have are real, sam? Yeah, thought so. I really feel for leona. 24mil? That’s a hell of a lot of views.
